Having heard horror stories about motorbikes being lifted into the backs of vans and taken for joyrides by overprivilged little twerps, I had to buy one of these when I bought my bike for peace of mind if nothing else.I decided to go for Oxford for all my security kit as it's a well known brand and has a reputation for good quality stuff. This bike lock is no exception. It's heavy, thick and the length of it means it can loop round pretty much any part of the bike you choose (read on for where the best places are!). Being heavy it does mean that it gets cumbersome lugging it around but having thrown it in my backpack everyday, I can't honestly notice it being on my shoulders. The locking mechanism is a strange one to prevent lockpicking, but it's very sturdy and resilient to the elements so far.Now - where to put it! Not through *just* a wheel. Wheels can be taken off motorbikes very easily indeed. Not *just* a fork or the swing arm - these are "closed circuits" if you like only kept close by a wheel. The best place to loop it round is multiple places. I loop mine around the main exhaust assembly. If somebody really wanted to get at my bike, they would need a full mechanic set with them - to be honest if they have that, no matter where I put this it won't do any good! To stop the bike-lifters and joyriders though, looping it round a part of the bike subframe is your best bet if you can (not all bikes have naked subframes though).

Got this chain lock for my son and daughters bicycles. We had kept them indoors for months after my husbands very expensive bicycle was stolen, locks broken, wheels dismantled and everything, outside our home. But with a new born in the house and more and more things coming in for him, I really got fed up of seeing it in the house and decided to start searching for a chain like this. This chain is just perfect, My husband chose it and I guess because it is an actual motorcycle chain its a lot stronger than the typical bicycle chains. This chain is super strong, heavy weight, durable, long - enough to chain through the wheels, and the middle bar panels under the seat of a 16" and 24" bicycle, securely holding it to a large water pipe outside our flat. Secure with a safe lock.It comes with 4 keys so there are plenty of spares.I review all items I buy on amazon, irrespective of price as I myself have found reviews help to make the right decision when shopping. I hope you have found this review helpful.

I use these as backup chains and to suppliment my heavy duty abus chain and ground anchor, i use this through the other wheel. Nice long length, the lock cover is cheap plastic and easily broken off but it just slides back on. Lock has been faultless, i have 2 of these OF178 GP chains. The protective webbed cover is still in good condition after a years use, if i am going into town i will carry one of these as its long enough to wrap around a solid obsticle and theough my wheel. Or loop through the wheel and over the seat. For less than £16 this is fantastic value, As a stand-alone chain i'd be wary but for a 2nd to back up a stronger first,or just to have under your seat for those odd trips to town or incase you break down you can lock it to something solid, this will not be beaten.

Its an Oxford lock, good strong build on the important bits, the chain & lock, it safely locks my wifes motorbike to any metal railing fence with plenty of room, i would have given this the full 5 stars but for one reason, the cloth cover tie down, the one thin bit of wire that secures the cover to the lock preventing it from slipping down and exposing the chain is crap and when i am riding my bike behind her and she has the chain wrapped around her metal rack i can hear it rattling like she was carrying empty tin cans, the thin poor quality wire rusted quicker than a Chinese motorbike, other than this (easy repair by the way, with a far better quality metal wire for a few pence)i would buy her another one no problem (and change the wire, LOL)

I wanted to buy a strong but flexible/bendy bike chain that I can lock tyres as well as the body or lock my bike to a wider post as the last one a had was too narrow. Only critism is that it is really heavy, but i guess it is expected. It works for me as I leave the lock at work and lock my bike after cycling to work anyway. Otherwise having to carry it with you all the time would have been a pain. Although I think this is actually a motorbike chain, rather than a just a bike chain, so can't really complain about the weight:-)I would recomment this chain to anyone who is looking for a strong chain that they can look their bikes with around even the widest posts,or lock the wheels as well as the body together safely.

After some years of "safe "parking had to move bike. Saw this lock and decided to buy.Turned out to be an excellent buy. Cahin and lock sturdy and an excellent deterrent. My only mistake was not to buy the slightly longer chain as it doesnt allow me to couple from nt and rea rwheels easily, but thats my fault. The lock came with 4 keys which I thought was excellent as i can have keys on both sets of bike keys with a spare at home and at work.Overall the lock and chain have proved to be an excellent buy, the seller delivered the unit in quick time as promised. deserves the 5 stars

With a name like oxford you would expect a product to do what it says it will, and this chain lock does exactly what it says. The chain is of a good length and strength, If you need one for that little bit of extra security then you won't go wrong with this one for it's price of less than £30. Don't get me wrong it's not the best on the market but it's also not the most expensive and you honestly get good value for money from it. Would I recommend it? Yes I would. Would I buy it again? Well the answer would need to be yes again. Great value product if you pay the right money for it.

This thing is an absolute behemoth, heavy as hell but basically impossible to get through. It's as secure (if not more so) than a D-Lock, but you can carry it over your shoulder and it can lock up bikes in weird positions (round lampposts, to railings, in trees, to other bikes). I've used several of these over the years, I tie up every bike I own with one. Only downside is that the lock isn't as reliable - my last one's lock stopped opening smoothly after two years of use (which is a good innings I suppose), so had to buy a new one. Still better than anything else I've used.

I bought this to replace a previous Oxford chain (That lasted 6 years). It is very good and has plenty of length. Maybe a little light weight for use as a motorcycle chain and the lock does feel like one blow with a lump hammer would shatter it. However as a visual deterrent to the average scrote walking down the street this is excellent. At the end of the day if a pro wants to steal your motorcycle they will. But this is a budget chain and lock and am very happy with what it is for the price. Also comes with 4 keys not 2!

This product arrived quickly, and well packaged. It appears to be a very well made and robust lock, with a heavy gauge chain nicely covered with waterproof material that takes away the glare of a bare chain. It also comes with four keys which is always handy.Security always depends on how desperate a thief will be, but this lock would require a great deal of effort and time to remove.I bought this to secure an outboard motor to my boat and I am very pleased with my purchase for the price paid.

Bought for my motor bike.I sold my original heavy duty one with my previous bike and took a risk on this one. It is pretty sturdy but I doubt it could stop heavy/large duty bolt cutters but I wanted something not too expensivve as a deterrent and something I could use to chain up when leaving the bike. Although I had a very heavy duty carbon steel one before this one is worth the mney and ideal for my purposes. I also use it to lock up the bike when in my locked garage just in case.

I like the single link insertions mechanism and the well covered chain protection to prevent damage to painted areas. The chain is maybe a bit short depending on use, but I knew that and keeps it light, which is what I wanted when traveling (bike or cycle). I bought two so when expect maybe needed can link both as an extension. The four keys provided with each lock as backups is reassuring. I use a heavier gauge chain in other circumstances, but very heavy to travel with.

I have used this for a good few months now and I am very happy with it. It was delivered quickly and I have been using it to keep my bike secure in and around Edinburgh. It is very heavy duty and I think it would be very difficult to cut through (not that I've tried of course). It is not too heavy to wear around your body when cycling or can be easily wrapped around the frame of the bike as well. Great that it comes with 3 spare keys too.Would definitely recommend this!!

Very nice lock, good weight to it and seems to be very strong. The weatherproof coating is brilliant and the small clip covering the lock is also good to prevent rust. I like how many keys that it comes with and that you need a key to lock it, meaning you can't accidently lock up without knowing where the key is. Also contacted oxford for a spare blank key which they provide free of charge, very good manufacturer with a great customer service team.

Product is good value and should deter casual thieves, but the lock mechanism does not seem robust enough. The lock pin engages with a grooved cylinder attached to the other end of the chain, but only engages by about 1mm, of the 3 to 4mm available. Unless both pin and cylinder are made of very high quality toughened steel, I would think a small crowbar would easily disengage the pin, releasing the chain. But it looks the part and should deter.
