this is the best D-lock available to buy. it comes with 2 keys and a code card, so if you lose both keys you can call up abus and request a spare set.It weighs 3.0 kilograms. (the level 15 security d-lock, the abus granit plus 54, weighs 1.5 kilograms, and the Kryptonite New York D-lock is 1.5kg as well.)abus give it the following security ratings against different attacks:boltcroppers - level 25 securityhammer + ice spray - level 25 securityhacksaws - level 30 securitylock chamber drilling - level 25 securityjack attacks - level 26 securitylock body strength - level 26 securitycorrosion - level 25 securitylock picking - level 20 securityEDIT:I've been using this lock for 8 years now and am very happy with it.I have left the lock outside all the time for 8 years, there are no signs of rust and the locking mechanism is still free and easy (In contrast, my Abus granit plus 54 tends to seize up and needs cleaning and re-greasing every 18 months or so - inside the lock body where the D shackles lock in)Its worth reporting that in 5 years, locked to a Tricross singlespeed (RRP £449) in central london and left outside overnight in offroad parking accessible by foot, two attempts were made to breach this lock.Theft attempt #1The first was a crowbar attack to prize the bars of the D shackle apart. The lock was not at all bent and still locks perfectly. I found a crowbar and a slightly bent (aluminium frame) bicycle where some torque had been applied by the lock during the attack - better than losing the bike (and Specialized replaced the frame with no fuss for £50). I was very impressed that the lock was unaffected.Theft attempt #2Someone tried at this with a hacksaw - the plastic (weatherproof) layer around the bar was cut. The metal shackle itself received a surface scratch of perhaps half a mm deep. Considering this was left in offroad parking and the attack occurred overnight, I like to think that they got bored and gave up when they didnt get any purchase.I re-weatherproofed the lock by wrapping the shackle with a plastic freezer bags and then doing a neat layer of black electrical insulation tape to cover it all up again, about 3 years ago, which is still holding fine now.

I bought this lock because of several reviews saying it is the hardest to angle grind or bolt crop, being even substantially harder than the Kryptonite New York lock. I use a cheaper D lock on the frame and front wheel and this on the frame and rear wheel.I leave my bike in an underground car park in my building in East London which is very vulnerable (I don't have a choice). I see bolt cropped D locks and cable locks down there all the time, and there have been repeated thefts. After about a year, my reasonably valuable bike (£400) is absolutely fine. A bike locked with only the same cheaper lock I use (Kyrptonite Evolution Series 4)was stolen not so long ago (we assume with a portable angle grinder).I'm sure someone could get through the Abus if they really put their mind to it, but it's substantially stronger than the average lock and that's enough to deter thieves, at least the ones in my area. That said, it's too heavy to carry around (3kg) and cost almost 40% of the cost of the bike. For cyclists, it's only for those of us who have to leave our bikes overnight in a place where angle-grinding or sustained bolt cropping attacks are a real possibility. It is not a practical portable solution or suitable for daily use. In the daytime I use the Evolution Series 4 with a cable and secure the bike in busy, well lit areas and this is fine.

It is true..... there is no better lock.Originally designed for mopeds or motorbikes. It is not called extreme because of its design, its called extreme because its extreme you have to use one in the area you are locking up and should consider locking it up in a better lower risk area.Prosunpickable lockunbreakable lock, except disc cutters. The best lock out thereThieves more likely to steal the lock than your cycle as it worth more.Easier to cut your frame than the lock.If you use ten of these to lock up your cycle or motorbike/moped then the statistical risk of it being stolen are near zero.If you bike get stolen using this then its bad luck or you are in a very bad area.Only thing better isto weld your cycle bike frame to the lamppostConsVery very heavy to be used for push cycles.Proberly the same cost as your push cycle.Thieves proberly steal your cycle parts or do an attempt to break your lock for fun as a challange.Thieves more likely to put glue in your lock to get back at you.

The best D-Lock you can buy. It rarely features in bicycle lock reviews because it's aimed at the motorcycle market, so a lot of people are not aware of this model, and you're unlikely to find it in any bicycle shops.I've been using mine almost daily for over 5 years to lock an MTB worth more than £2k (I also use a big chain and padlock through the wheels). Fortunately I don't need to carry all the locks home with me each day ;) It's been perfect every time and I just love how solid it feels and the 'clunk' of fitting the locking section onto the shackle. It's inspired me to spend a few hundred pounds on Abus products.

Superb piece of kit!I live in East London and have to leave my bike on the street so a good lock is essential for peace of mindand have used this for over a year, absolutely no problems, still working as new - unlike the New York lock which failed after a week! This is really too heavy for a back-pack but is the business if you have panniers etc.Nothing is guaranteed to stop a determined professional thief - but this is by far the best lock I have ever used in 50 years of motorcycling.I paid full price for it, no special deals, my enthusiasm is genuine.

This lock is INSANE, if you are looking for a U-lock for your scooter or motorcycle then this is what you want, the shackle is massiveand no bolt cutters are getting through this NO WAY..Abus claim this is the best/strongest U-lock in the world and when you see it in the flesh you can see why as it's a MONSTER!!!!The shackle is 19mm thick "with coating" and for those that don't no about security 19mm links e just about the biggest you can get...If your looking for a lock BUY THIS.......

A beast of a lock, well worth the money for good peace of mind when locking my motorcycle, I put it through both the front forks and the alloy wheel spoke to keep it off the ground plus no room for a mini jack to get in, I lock it on my grab rail and tie down with a bungee to transport it about because this lock is heavy, bought this nearly £100 cheaper than any other sellers I could find, much better than disc locks as discs can just be shattered with a hammer

Would recommend to anyone looking to secure their prized possession. It is heavy though and unless you have panniers on, this can be too heavy for a backpack.Overall, a great product - get one and be safe.Just remember though, if a thief wants your bike they will find a way.

Nothing is tougher than this lock.If they nick your bike when it’s locked up with this lock then they deserve a medal!Nothing’s getting through this lock!Bit heavy but that’s the cost of knowing that you will have a bike when you go back to it.

Really good lock and very strong.small gripe is that you often have to wrestle the d-lock frame from the locking-bar housing. It is not a massive negative but can be a bit frustrating at times.I would buy again to be fair - but worth a mention

This is a Sold Secure *Diamond* rated lock and the best you can get. The reviews claiming otherwise are out of date.It is heavy, sometimes a little tricky to unlock and separate but it will certainly provide the best protection available.

Been riding bikes for almost 40 years. Always been put off buying Abus due to cost but having spent years trusting flimsy locks it was reassuring to handle the new lock. Its a heavy unit but its solidly built and looks bullet proof.

29.3.2015

Its just so much bigger than everyone else's in the bike lock up. I have 3 locks Abus level 25 (this one), level 10 and chain KryptoniteJust need a security cover and ill be sorted.

4.2.2020

This is a really solid lock and knowing my scooter will still be there when I get back is worth the money. A thief would have to come very well prepared to get through this.
