Summary, an excellent strong lock and you will not find anything stronger. This model is p/n 111792 which is the 300 mm reach model without any bike bracket/holder.There are 6 models manufactured by Abus, some with a 230 mm reach and there are two types of bike bracket/holder, the EaZyKF and the USH540 . Thus in the 300 mm reach models you can have without a bike bracket/holder OR with either of two bike bracket/holders. The same with the 230 mm reach models.EaZy KF – Bracket with comfortable one hand operation for easy mounting on round frames with a diameter of 28-36 mmUSH 540 – Universal bracket with easy mounting on round frames with a diameter of 15-35 mmThis review, and the one I purchased, being the 300 mm reach without a bike bracket holder.IMPORTANT to note that this is the latest model 540, there was also a model 54, but if you check the forums and reviews this 54 model had problems with some cosmetic plastic pieces that could be knocked off if you dropped the lock. For the best security you cannot better this lock, and it is rated Gold Secure with a security level of 15 which is the highest that I have seen for any bike lock.Made and designed in Germany by one of the biggest manufacturer of locks.Comes with two keys, one of which has a LED light. Also supplied is a ‘Code Card’ which would enable the owner to order more keys or replace one upon proof of ownership or purchase. On the negative comments I can only list its weight and cost, but then you buy a bike lock like this for the best security. You will not get ultimate security and strength without weight and this of course must cost more. Frankly my bike is worth the expense, plus the inconvenience of making an insurance claim, getting paid and then trying to buy another bike….. Better to lock it securely with a lock like this.

I own many locks and use a 540 - 230mm and 300mm.If your cycle gets stolen with one of these there was nothing you could of done about it.Abus Granite locks still are extremly hard to pick, only a handful in the World so far in 2019 can do it, and it take time. The 540 and the next one up Granite Extreme (and extremly heavy and over £200) are the best of the best locks ever made so far.The 540 (aka 54) can handle everything able to hack it and also four minutes with a battery disc cutter ( 2 cuts are required so 8 minutes to get the lock off ). The Granite Extreme is just a fatter version and heavier so it takes longer to cut than the 540 Nothing can stop a mains disc cutter thou but criminalsdont yet carry mains extensions or mains generators. The 53 Granite London the lighter version can be cut quickly with standard good cutters now.ProsBest lock on market against theftLock is unpickable and unbumpableLock is saw proof.Lock is freezer and hammer proof.Lock is jaw cutter proof.four minutes for battery disc cutter (x2)If you cycle got stolen with this then very little could have helped unless you could have fitted ten off these.Better than the Soldsecure Gold standard. SoldSecure needs to start a new clasification for these Gold standard locks.ConsBracket is bad (I lost one 540 by road vibrations. Advise not to use brackets and put lock in a rear basket or holdal.ExpensiveVery heavy (indeed to heavy to cycle with if using the frame clip)Clip is good but vibrations as lock is very heavy will make lock eventually fall off and you may lose lock like I did.Your lock could be worth more than your cycle.

I bought the long lock as the frame design of my ebike (and perhaps other makes) means there was no way the shorter lock would capture the frame, rear wheel and a bike rack. The mount is designed to fit on round tubes, so the "vertical" post was the only option on my bike and because of the battery position, there is not enough space to fit the lock inside the triangle. So on my ebike, the lock has to be mounted offset from the "vertical" post, but it also has to be angled out to avoid the battery which means it's in the way as I pedal. Mounting the lock offset and facing back may be an option for some but I use often use panniers.Just a minor point which might be a consideration.Edit - Up'ed this to five stars as my "problem" was not really much of a problem. Although the end of the lock does stick out a bit, it does not really affect my cycling action. And having given it a bit more thought, I believe the shorter 230mm version would have been long enough! When using the lock, rather than capture the thick part of the frame, I can just position the lock straight through the rear part of the frame and rear wheel rim, and there is enough space to capture a bike racks. So I guess this is just a long winded way of saying, buy the correct length lock after careful consideration - and the short lock is likely to be easier to mount on the frame.

I've been using this for my hybrid bike basically leaving it for about a few hours at a time for college. The lock is pretty beefy and is in fact beefier than some of the bike racks I've used. It is pretty thick and is reasonably lightweight for the protection it provides. It is even recommended by well renowned lock pickers on Youtube, such as Lockpickinglawyer, as it has a very secure locking mechanism. The shackle's rectangular design makes it hard for boltcutters to hold onto. I also chose this lock because it seems to withstand a lot of force before you can break it with a jack. I use this lock alongside a cable to secure the front wheels and a rotor brake lock.Sometimes I even use another U lock with it if I'm going to leave it for longer. The USH bracket has been really helpful in carrying it around especially if you don't want to carry it on a backpack as I do because it hurts my back after a while. So far, I haven't found any cons to using this lock. Keep in mind that locks are only a deterrent. A determined bike thief would get through any lock. Although it is not on the affordable price bracket for locks, it is surely a worthy investment if you want to keep your bike.

Got myself a very expensive ebike and after doing some research into locks I decided on thisPros-This thing is a BEAST. Just the look of it would make any theif think twice. Trust me when I say no common theif is cracking this lock! The only way into it is with an angle grinder and even then it'll need to be cut twice which will take time and make alot of noise in the process.- Detaches from both ends and clips together with a very satisfying "clunk"- Extremely easy to lock/unlock definitely Feels like it's built to last- the key has a built in light, handy for those darker winter nights.- The mount is great. Pretty simple to fit and keeps the lock in place.Doesn't rattle when at all riding.Cons- its heavy (although its the lightest ulock you can buy)- its biig! Much bigger than it looks. Gives you a good range of locking options especially when combined with a cable but Limited options when mounting it to an ebike.Cant go wrong with this lock. It'll probably be overkill for most people but its better to be safe. Only issue is the size of the thing. bare this in mind before you purchase.

When I bought this, I thought it was one of the best rated U-Locks on the market. Turns out that's a slightly different Abus that doesn't seem to show up on Amazon. Oh well. Still WAAAAY better than a cable lock.So far, no theft, so I can't personally attest to the security of the lock. But I can tell you about the ergonomics: this thing is BIG. Which makes it useful for locking your bike up to non-ideal structures (the extra reach of the U is helpful). But it makes mounting trickier. If trying to mount it in the center triangle, it totally eliminates even being able to fit a bottle cage. There are a few ways to mount it to the side of the seat post, parallel to the bike, but those interfered with my rear-mounted kids seat. I ended up mounting it on the rear seat-stay, and it seems to be working nicely there. That being said, the mount that comes with the lock is MUCH better than the mount that came with a different U-Lock i purchased. It gives you a lot of flexibility in mounting options.Yes, this thing is heavy. But I don't notice it, and you probably wont either unless you're a pro racer.

Please improve the instructions to atach the lock to a bike frame, and improve the atachment also, once it was done I could see how easy it was, you could do it with your eyes closed, but for someone that never done it before or even owened a bike lock it was harder than what it needed to be, lock also needs to be thicker. When the lock has a better atachment and a thicker metal I'll give it 5 stars, for now 4 is enough.EDIT - the lock mount is even worse than I thought, the lock doesnt stay fixed but moves a little bit side to side when is bumpy roads causing the lock to hit my spokes, not only that but the lick also doesn't "click" I'm place so when I put my bike upside down to fix my spokes the lock fell from the atachment hitting my frame and scratching it,no problem for a cheap bike but for a bike that costs around 2k it's a big blow, thanks for making amazing locks ABUS but Go F. Y. with that stupid atachment, surely something less cheap would be more appropriate for such a high end product, thanks for damaging my wheel and my frame/paint job.

This is a big heavy duty lock, and looks to be up to the task of deterring all but the most determined and well-equipped bicycle thief. And even they are going to have to work really hard to defeat this thing. The lock appears to be exceptionally well made. I don't think that I will be mounting it on my Trek Shift 3 with 18.5 inch frame, unless I want to relocate the water bottle cage. However, I think that it will carry just fine on the rear bag rack. I will use this lock with the "Sheldon Brown bike locking strategy" (Google it), and believe that I will have my bike for many years to come. The only problem I have had with the product is that one of the mounting nuts was missing from the bag,and the key light doesn't work...I assume because the battery is dead. Since I probably won't be using the mounting brackets anyway, and don't plan to be locking my bike in any pitch-dark aces, these really aren't "deal breakers," but the company might want to step-up their QC a little. That's the only reason I didn't give them a higher rating.

Only had experience with cheap u-locks on an old bike. Now I have a more expensive (better?) bike that's needs protection when left unattended while running errands. Haven't tried any other good quality u-locks but this one feels sturdy and the action of the key is very smooth. Read too many reviews of the Kryptonite locks getting jammed and decided to get something better. This lock is lighter in weight than a comparable high security Kryptonite lock but feels heavy. Weight in specs is one thing and actually carrying is another - this one is heavy. Luckily it comes with a holder that will let you carry your lock almost anywhere on your bike. Wouldn't recommend carrying it in a holster around your waist. It has to be carried on the bike or inside a bag when commuting. The better the lock the more time the thief will take to bypass it. Invest in a good lock. This one is expensive but that depends how much you have spent in your bycicle or if you just can afford to lose your work tool (bike) - even if it's a cheap one.

I'm new (again after a 10 year hiatus that is) to biking. I bought a new bike which set me back $1600 (a bargain these days apparently).I researched locks, fully expecting to get a Kryptonite. At this price point though I decided to go with what other reviewers said about this one. It seems like a good choice.I like the long U shape of the lock. It makes it easy to secure the bike to things. As others have noted the key system is great, works easily every time.I had to look on Youtube to figure out how to install the mounting bracket but it was easy. One thing to note is I was going to install a bottle holder on my frame also but this lock is so big I don't think I can do that now. That's ok,not a big deal. Would still rather have a quality lock like this. Not much else to say about this, it's just a bike lock but seems to be well made (comes from Germany after all), has a killer lighted key that comes with it and all around an excellent lock.

This product is a brutal deterrent in all conspicuous urban areas , and will certainly persuade any bike thief to attempt to apprehend a less secure bicycle - providing the bicycle lock is secured properly (threading through both the bike rack , frame and back wheel). If your saddle or front wheel has a quick release feature , for optimum security , the Abus cobra cable can be threaded through those structures for maximum security which will be insurance for a lifetime in most urban environments .Positives : Vast size allows thick and bulky frames to be secured , vast length allows for more chunky bicycle stands to be engulfed , two keys provided- one contains a light feature ,plastic housing can be placed over the lock to act as an indicator for any cutting etc , durable , practical and brutally strong.Negatives : Won’t protect quick release saddles - should be used in conjunction with cables for particular expensive bicycles .

I purchased this along with a Kryptonite New Yorker lock and cable. The mounting hardware for this is well thought out and comes with spacers for different sized frame tubing. Think I'm just going to leave mine in my panniers though, bike is getting to cluttered and the other lock gives me heel strike when riding when mounted on the rear triangle. This ABUS is rated way higher than the Kryptonite and is longer, yet is also about the same weight if not a touch lighter. Thinner loop which is harder steel to cut through with bolt cutters than the thicker steel on it's competitors. It is a significant investment for security, just don't lock your bike up through just the frame...go through a wheel as well and I recommend using a cable also to protect your other wheel and seat. I've never spent this much on a lock before, but then again, I've never invested as much on a commuter bike before. This lock just oozes the German engineering.

Having bought a new Carbon Fibre road bike and insured it, I needed to have a Gold standard bike lock for when I park it. I looked at a selection of these and eventually settled on the Granit-X plus.Fitting it is very simple, the lock is very sturdy and the key fits smoothly and very positively. The lock bar goes close tot he bike Fram after looking it to a secure bike stand and I do couple the lock with a cable through the front wheel to prevent that being stolen as well.I do like the light that is included in one of th keys, this is a great help when unlocking the bike from the security staple in my shed and I can see this would be great at night as well.Overall I'm happy with this lock.I don't know if it will protect my bike; if a thief is determined nought they will get what they're after but hopefully seeing this one being used will make then look to the next bike in the line.

I went with this ABUS lock, after reading about key operation / locking cylinder problems with another brand. This one operates very smoothly (after 1 month of operation). I love it!! I also chose this one, due to the high ART and Sold Secure GOLD ratings. Yes, it is heavy ... but a 13 mm chain for the same application is heavier ... and this is just as secure. I'm also using the USH mounting bracket, attached to the seat post tube (Trek Verve 3 Disc). It fits perfectly. The U-shape portion runs parallel to the top tube. I added a velcro strap to provide added support, wrapping it around the bike top tube and the u-shaped portion at the far end. So far, with about 200 miles, the mounting bracket + velcro strap have worked great! (The miles have been over mostly sidewalk riding, with some pretty bumpy cracks/joints.) Very, very happy with this product. Highly recommend it!

This is a solid piece of kit! A thief would have to be seriously tooled up to defeat this lock. The bar shape means that it will not rotate if cut, so the thief would have to make two cuts. I suspect they would move on to easier pickings. The lock comes with good fixings to attach it to your bike.As you would expect for a very secure lock, it is quite heavy, but lighter than others in it's class due to the bar design. The key has a LED light, which is a nice touch, but the keys are quite large to have in your pocket. The price you pay for security I guess. There is a plastic card with the key serial number on it. I suggest you photograph it onto cloud storage in case a replacement is needed further down the line.ABUS will supply additional locks for your key as well, which is useful.
