I just purcahsed a Harley Davidson Fat Bob & as part of the insurance I had to use a sold secure or Thatcham Catorgory 3 approved mechanical security device when the motorbike was not in use, I didn't have one of these devices, I tried a few which were perfectly OK until I came across the ABUS Detecto X Plus 8077 disc lock which is awesome. As soon as you open the packaging and handle it you realise it's a formidable piece of kit and should deter the average thief when they are looking to steal your motorbike. It's heavy whilst not being too bulky, Includes a brilliant carry case, two keys (one of which has a powerful LED light biult in),is made of hardened steel & the locking bar takes around three minutes to cut through & remove the lock with a grinder which is incredible (Check out the Youtube video's). The lock fits on the brake disc from the inside of the disc, has a clearance of 48mm for the actual disc & when fitted looks really secure with little of the locking bar on show for potential thieves to work on. On top of all of this security is the alarm side of the disc lock, it is brilliantly designed with a ball/spring, it doesn't start the arming routine until the lock is slid onto the brake disc which pushes the ball/spring back which initates a loud beep to inform you that the lock is arming. All you need do is then turn the key and lock the device, absolutely brilliant design. When the disc lock is armed it has an LED which flashes Red every 10 seconds when armed, IMO there has been some negative reviews regarding the volume/sensitivity of the alarm but believe me it is seriously loud when initiated & the lock is heavy enough that wind or rain won't give a false alarm. When removing the lock it gives you serveral beeps (around five seconds) to give you a chance to insert the key & unlock the bar which is on a spring & very sturdy.I'm not sure how long the two AAA batteries will last but again there has been criticism about how difficult it is to remove the alarm unit when replacing the batteries but it is not hard in the slightest to remove the battery unit. Also one of the great features of the disc lock is the 3d mode which means even if you forget to remove the disc lock when you lift you bike off it's stand into the vertical position it will set off the alarm so you won't forget it's there and ride off, In my photo's I have a reminder cable but I'm not sure I will ever need to use it.

Kawasaki 650 Ninja ER-6F 2016Its a good lock and feels much sturdier than my old Xena Disc-lock and is highly visible also the Alarm function seems to be a much better installation than on the Xena too mine gave up after 6 months but in all honesty was flaky right from the off. But the Abus is still going strong 4 months later and shows no signs off failure.Once installed there isn't a so called warning chirp if you move handlebars accidentally to remind you to remove it or to leave it alone, It just sets the alarm off which is good i suppose if you have forgotten to remove it but i'd prefer it if you got a once alert warning\chime but if you then stop it doesn't alert,But if moved again in say 10 secs then a second alert happens and it Alarms. On reading the description i thought this was what it did!I did once forget to remove it and had to panic to get the key out and jump off the bike and unlock it whilst the alarm was sounding which was a little stressful in public and would have been a lot nicer if i'd had the single warning first. But i guess it's better than trying to ride of with it on and damaging the bike and looking even sillier !Another negative is because of the size it doesn't really fit under the seat easily so i have bought a seat bag to store it in but that really isn't the locks fault but does need thinking about.I find putting it on can be a little clumsy\awkward to get it right, it only fits on my front disc as it's too big for the rear and the only way i can install it is with the Key on the inside which does make it a little fiddly to get on and off but with practice this does get a little easier. The Alarm isn't particularly loud enough to be irritating and struggles to be heard over 20 metres or so.I think essentially it's a well built lock that's a bit too big and clumsy and over priced but if it stops some little urchin making off with my bike it'll be worth every penny.

Bought another 8077 as I am very happy with the first one.But Abus have made a change which I was unaware of. The shank, that goes through the brake disc is thicker on this new lock. Which meant it wouldn't fit the gaps in the disc for my bike (Aprilia Tuono gen2).Not a major problem a I knew the older 8077 did fit that bike. So I just swapped round which lock goes on which bike. But something to be aware of, when buying.

A little more expensive but sturdy and robust - previous Oxford alarmed disc lock failed after 6 months and has lots of plastic on it - this is ok so far and much more substantial - a disc cutter will get through it, but it will take a little longer and will protect your in all other circumstances - handy to have on your travels and comes with a small pouch - you do need to buy a reminder cable though - for about (£4)

I bought this after reading reviews on various disklocks - I needed something that would fit under the seat of my MT07 but which was also a decent deterrent. The Abus feels solidly made, and is very easy to use. Hopefully the alarm will deter any thieves from trying to remove it.

Really good material it seems, works really well. The only thing is it is too sensitive so be careful when you put it or deactivate it as the alarm can go. Really loud sound. Been using it since 2 months now and it is perfect so far. Didn't test on rain though. I will see.

Bought two of these, one for each bike. I have seen photos of one of these cut inti by bike thieves in three positions with grinder, still not got it off and it still opend. The sounder is loud enough to cause attraction and is quite sensitive. Well worth buying one.

It feels heavy and solid. Didn't fit on my front disk on a gs500f but it's fine on the rear disk. Could be more sensitive, you pretty much have to sit on the bike to make it go off. Even leaning it up doesnt cause it to go off unless you jerk it.

Although I would've liked the alarm to be a bit louder. At 100 dB it isn't as ear-piercing loud as I would've expected. As for the durability and sturdiness I can't really say much yet. I've been using the lock for a couple of months now.

I bought this for my wife’s motorbike. When she is at work her motorbike is parked in a public car park. We wanted something that was strong and made a loud noise if touched. This disk lock does both happy with my purchase

Batteries died withing about 3 days constant beep beep beep, easy to use and seems sturdy, covered in rust after about a week aswell would probably try something different in the future.

Best lock I’ve ever had. It’s loud, small and you’d be silly to try breaking it. Can’t be picked, frozen or hammered and I’ve combined it with a Abus chain for maximum safety.

Seems solid enough. Good luck with locking it without setting the alarm off! Don’t even think about using one without a lock reminder bungee....you’ll regret it if you do!

Top quality disc lock, extremely well made.Hard to beat, will take alot of time and noise to beat the lock(mains power tools). Totally worth spending extra on this lock.

Big chunky alarmed lock, sensitive enough to pick up a small movement in the front wheel but not so sensitive that wind etc will set it off. Overall, great.
