Initially I was on the fence about ordering this lock. While it had high reviews for protection the weight of the lock seemed to be holding a lot of people back. Eventually security overrode comfort, and I bought it.I would recommend this lock for anyone with a bicycle they desperately want to keep.First off, just the look of the Kryptonite 1210 is enough to deter any wandering bike thieves. The picture doesn't do the size of the links justice: they're MASSIVE, as long as my middle finger and twice as thick. The chain is plenty long enough to wrap neatly around your bike and whatever you're securing it to (unless you're attaching it to a telephone pole, and personally I get nervous putting my bike that close to the street). It can be a bit of a hassle to secure purely because of the weight, but once you have it in place NO ONE is taking off with your bike. Carrying it over your shoulder can become very painful on longer rides, so I highly suggest investing in a rear rack and cargo net (and not JUST for carrying the chain; they're excellent for grocery runs too). My lock is always secured on my rear rack for when I leave the house and not once has it slipped and fouled me up.People have been saying that the keys, with their soft metal, are easy to ruin in the locks. I haven't had this problem, though I can see how someone in a hurry might have trouble locking/unlocking their bike easily. The key has to go in straight, and if you wiggle it around you're going to make any trouble you're having worse. Not once have I had to force it, but it is brand new. Maybe over time it'll become more difficult. Just focus on what you're doing and you shouldn't have problems.Overall, for $70, this is a damn good way to protect your bike. I'd rather buy this monster and rest easy knowing my bike is protected than buy a lower-end lock and stress that my baby won't be there when I go back to it.

I bought this to use with my bicycle when I take it to university. Overkill? Perhaps, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. After several months of hauling it in my backpack (along with laptop, books, toolkits, and more!), I decided to start leaving it locked up at university to save me some back trouble later in life. This is a rather heavy lock (I would weigh it if it was at home with me), and actually weighs more than my bike itself! As for security, it's great. No one is getting through this without extreme difficulty. I only say that because any lock can be broken given enough time and patience; I'd be more worried about a potential thief destroying/stealing what the bike is actually locked to,it'd probably be easier. If you're going to be using this lock with a bicycle that has quick release wheels like mine, I'd advise you purchase the lock alongside a cable, such as the Kryptonite Kryptoflex 7 ft Cable Lock (10 mm x 213 cm), which you can snake through your wheels and lock up to this chain. You get 3 keys with this lock: one main key that has a blue LED inside (useful for seeing the lock in the dark, but I've not had to use it yet, personally) and 2 spares. If you do buy, remember to register your keys with Kryptonite should they get lost or stolen (they have numbers on them). All in all, very happy with the lock. I'd gladly leave my bike all day at uni without fear of it going walkies... well, ridies.

This thing is a beast! I've had it for a few months (almost a year now, I guess), and its been a great help...I've even had a few local dirtbags eyeballing it as I lock up my bike, like "Whoa, dude... I guess I'm not stealing HIS bike." It's great for one or two bikes, but won't stretch far enough for many more...As a bonus, it's also the perfect size for me to wear as a belt as I ride short distances. It's a bit large/clunky to attach to my bike, but it is possible...One of the keys broke already, which is annoying... It came with two extra (one of which has a light on it), so it's no biggie.I even used the lock portion to secure up my garage door the other day before I went on a long trip. This thing is versatile as all can be...BUY ONE!!! The 10% rule is definitely a good benchmark... ***For every $$$ you spent on your bike (and every $$ you'd spend replacing it, and/or taking a taxi home the day it's stolen), spend 10% of that on your lock***My bike isn't really worth all that much, but the thought of some A-hole riding away on my bike with a smile on his face was too much for me to bear.

If you use this lock, you can rest easy and your bike will be difficult to steal (if you lock it up correctly). The chain length is just enough to wrap around the back wheel and frame to a bike rack or pole (for my bike anyways). The chain is quite heavy and I would like to see a thief try and hack through it or the lock. The length of the chain from end to end is 39" but the inner circumference is more like 34" or 35". For me this is perfect to wear around my waist as the weight of this doesn't bother me at all.The only gripe that I have with this is the key, specifically the key with a the light. It is bulky and doesn't fit on my key ring so well. Thankfully there are 2 smaller keys supplied so I don't have to use it.On a side note, the light on the key isn't the best build quality. You really have to press down into the button to light it up and sometimes it doesn't work. For anyone buying this, I would recommend also getting a large carabiner. I use one to hold the chain together as I unlock the padlock from my bike (I keep it locked around my handlebars while I ride).

This lock/chain is brutally heavy but not nearly as heavy nor cumbersome as the "fahgettaboutit" 15-pound version. Bicycle-riders may likely still find 8 pounds too heavy for regular lugging. Personally, I think Kryptonite ought not to market this to bicyclists for this reason but I digress. I ride a Vespa-style scooter and it's pitch-perfect for this class of vehicle; the lock loop is a tidy size, chain segments fit through the cast spokes of the wheels, the length allows chaining it to a large-diameter object, (provided it's close) and it stores nicely in the seat storage. This is a seriously imposing chackle, and likely very disheartening to look at by any would-be thief. My scooter happens to be electric which allows only front-wheel chaining.(rear hub is solid) If anyone tried removing the front wheel, they'd be stuck trying to carry a 6-cell, multi-hundred-pound scooter on only one way-offset rear wheel; theoretically possible but ultimately a fool's errand. They'd drop it at the first hill.

I admit it: When the medium sized HEAVY box came, I laughed. When I opened it and pulled this 9lb humongous chain out, I laughed again. I mean, I knew it was big. I knew it was thick. But I didn't get the proper perspective from the picture included on this page - I wasn't expecting the chain links to be so large. I also wasn't thinking rationally about adding an additional 9lbs to my commuter bike. But while we're being honest: This sucker is solid. It's well made. It's definitely a good chain / lock to use in at least a medium crime area. I had considered sending it back, but figured that with three good bikes under my roof now, it'd be good to use even here at the house to lock them up with, and I can use it while on the road if I'm heading to an area where I feel a cable lock isn't enough. I hope I never have to find out just how strong the thing is, but I feel quite positive that it'll keep most thieves away from my ride.

I recently purchased an OnGuard armored cable lock, and had to return it since the locking mechanism didn't work... At all. So instead of taking my chances again, I ordered this bad boy! It is heavy, but I don't think it's "ridiculous" or "too much". I will be using this lock as a stationary lock. I live in an apartment and lock up my bike on my porch, so I wanted something intimidating and beefy, and let me tell you, this bad boy does the job. Each link is roughly 2" long, and an 1" wide. The padlock itself is about the size of a closed fist... Much bigger than I expected! The chain is long enough (39 inches) to lock up two bikes if the are right next to each other. The padlock opens in two pieces,it is not like a master lock where one half opens and swings around... Does that make sense?I would get this lock if you are serious about security, or have an expensive bike that you are serious about keeping.

A year ago our garage (common underground gated apartment garage) was broken into and multiple bikes were stolen. In addition to our neighbors' bikes, 2 of ours were stolen. Our "nice" bikes are secured with this chain (it barely fits through 3 of them), then the regular bikes secured with a long cable. All of the bikes were then under a tarp to keep them out of the way from prying eyes.Well the thief stole our tarp, cut the cable lock, and took our two regular bikes in addition to all the neighbors'. these were still there the next morning (the only bikes still in the garage). They didn't even attempt to cut the chain, its not marred at all.The bikes left were a Teocali Elite, Pilot 2.1 and Ventura Comp, that would have been a huge loss if the thief made off with them.In the picture you can see the cut cable lock and the bikes left standing (stolen bikes not pictured)

I've been using this for a few months in Arizona and the haven't had any issues with the lock or chain. This might not be the security solution for a location where a thief can spend a minute or so with a cordless tool sporting a cutoff wheel, but I don't think it can be quickly and quietly defeated. This matters, as several bicycles with cheap locks have been stolen during the busy day time from right in front of my local grocery store. It is in a fairly nice neighborhood, but bike thieves have struck there repeatedly. I think that for locking up in a public place, this lock/chain will prove to be a good theft deterrent.Kryptonite rates the security on this set to be a 9 out of 10.This provides a discount if you want to buy the extended anti-theft protection plan they offer. (1 year is included free with locks graded 7 up through 10.)

The weight of the chain is no joke but it does get easier over time. This is my second time buying this lock ONLY because I left the chain locked at a construction site (for 2 days, a dumb move) while I took my bike elsewhere and they cut through it with something that looked like a torch, after cutters didn't work. Clearly only heavy duty tools that no casual thieves carry, will be able to defeat this lock. For 5 years, this has withstood secluded areas without cameras, high theft areas, and all manner of spontaneous grabby scumbags. As of 11/6/2020, a passerby grabbed my bike off my patio at 2am, without seeing the chain locked to the saddle. He didn't make it 3 feet trying to ride it,the chain tangled in the pedals, so he tossed the bike and I lost him as he ran away on foot. Not even locked to an anchor, THIS LOCK WORKS.

This lock is most definitely not light weight, but you won't have to worry about your bike getting stolen if this beast is locked around it. Heavy duty is an under statement when referring to this lock. I know about a dozen people that have this same (or similar) lock and none of them have had there bikes stolen. It is also is big enough to work well for multiple bikes (probably 3-4). The nylon cloth guard on the chain did rip off after about half a year, so I just made one out of canvas and dental floss that has held up just fine. The only real down fall is the weight, which is about that of a 12 pack, and can be a little much at times. But with that weight comes a security that lets you know your bike will be safe.

This lock is no joke. It weights a ton and probably doubles nicely as a backup defensive weapon during a late night mugging at the bike racks. However, what it lacks in subtlety it makes up for in peace of mind. I've left my bike chained outside of a busy mall at midday, a bustling college campus (notorious for bike thieves), and a sandwich stop in plain view of a major street, and came back every time to find my bike safe and sound. You'll probably want a heavy-duty hiking backpack or a rear bike-mounted saddlebag if you plan on taking this thing anywhere with you. Carrying it while cycling is a great workout, but your ass will never forgive you unless you wear a chamois and have a really squishy seat.Be prepared.

I live in NYC. I have an awesome totally stealable bike. I have a Kryptonite New York 1210 Bicycle Chain. Thieves can't touch this. This chain is so robust, that I am actually afraid to use it...what if I lose the key, or if the lock jams?! :-)Well, the lock is pretty much guaranteed not to jam, you get 3 sets of keys with it (one includes a handy light)...so rest assured, your ride is safe with this. Oh, and the length is just right, honestly, unless you have some special need to have a very long chain, this one does the trick at any pole/bike rack. It's heavy for a bike chain (maybe 10lbs or so), so you won't want one much bigger anyway.

I am only going to give a four star rating because the Amazon delivery person left my parcel on the doorstep for nearly 90mins despite the electronic receipt saying I had received it in person - Amazon you need some improvements.Back to the product itself.... Wow, this is one heavyweight chain and lock that will protect your pride and joy bicycle. Comes with three keys, one of which has a little light on the fob for night time use. Kryptonite seemed to have thought of everything. Okay this isn't exactly cheap at nearly £80.00 but if you are looking to keep secure a mountain bike or road bike, this is worth considering.
