I have recently decided to take up cycling, and upon purchasing a £500 bike I felt I needed a fairly hefty lock to keep it safe, now despite my bike being mid range I still wanted to get a top of the range lock due to the area's in which I would have it parked. The Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit seemed perfect, it has the gold sold secure rating and proved to withstand the tests of typical bike thief's on YouTube! The lock arrived nicely packaged, with 3 keys, (1 with a light) and the instructions, paperwork etc and the mount thing. The lock is heavy, there is no getting around that, however it gives you the security suggests, unlike the lighter locks that simply give you the sense of security that may not actually be there. The mount isn't great, and reading other reviews that's easy enough to realize, however I will not drop a star as what you are buying is a lock, and upon research almost every D/U style lock has the same issue, especially one that weighs 2kg. Even the best of mounts will probably leave the lock swinging about and hitting you so its best to either leave the lock around the frame or carry it in a bag. The later of the two options seemingly more convenient as my next point will mention. As you will realize, this lock is small, now there is plenty of room to fit around the bike and most things you would want to mount it to, however it would be a stretch to get it around even one wheel with the frame also, (however there is a trick to get the lock around one wheel and still secure the frame, this I will try and add a photo of at a later date). Due to this, if your bike has quick release wheels you'll want a cable for the wheels.I chose to purchase the Kryptonite cable recommended with the Fahgettaboudit, and this works very easily with the lock to ensure the bike and frame is secure. Some people recommend 2 D/U locks however I think over a wheel I don't see the need to spend all the extra unless your wheels are worth a ton.Despite some complaints of the keys weakness, I have found the lock is extremely easy to use. As long as you push the key right in and turn as the warning label says your fine, and if you haven't pushed it right in, just turn back and try again. A bit of lube could help the lock over time however I don't feel the need for this yet.The lighted key has actually served allot more purpose than I originally thought, the light is very strong and can light up the whole bike in the dark so you can easily navigate and use the lock. Some have also mentioned a weakness in the mechanism that covers the lock hole itself from extreme weather. Personally I find it perfectly fine, it seems to fit well, its strong and slides fine. Its not necessary however just helps to keep the lock in good condition! The lock is super thick, and the U bar would not be cut through by anything other than a heavy duty electric tool. The metal section of the U bar is 18mm with an extra 3mm ish added by the coating on it, so it should scare any thief off straight away.Upon reading, they Kryptonite key system actually sounds pretty great. Firstly they key number comes in either two places. On each of they keys themselves or on a small metal tag on the key ring. I got they numbers on the keys which personally I prefer. It turns out if you happen to lose your keys, Kryptonite will initially send you 2 extra keys free of charge, and it is only after this that you will have to pay for extra keys, and at $10 for a few keys, (£7 ish I assume for the UK) it sounds great! They offer protection for bikes of very large value (Cannot remember exactly how much) however you can be sure this lock will cover any insurance plans you may have.Overall a great lock and if you can Fahgettaboud the weight, is the best protection you can get for your bike.

I'm a cautious type who's happy to spend money to feel confident that I'll find my bike where I left it. I was a bit concerned that the Fahgettaboudit shackle might be too small, but I can count on one hand the number of times over the past six months that I've had trouble finding something suitable to lock to. It's slightly more tricky with my mountain bike than my road one, but that's to be expected with mountain tyres and seat stays being a bit wider. If you buy this lock, though, it's probably because you know you really want to fill the shackle every time to frustrate crowbar and bottle jack attacks. You will always fill it, but it seems they put in the effort to make it exactly the right size to fit in "Hal Ruzal" way - around the seat stays, the wheel and the street furniture you're locking to. It fits around every UK bike rack I've ever used. There are only ever a few millimetres to spare, but they're always there. The lack of wiggle room and the chunkiness of the shackle and body would make me move straight on if I were a thief (even after you strip off the plastic all lock manufacturers put on to make locks look bigger than they really are). Being the cautious type I also have an Abus Granit 54 Plus (my locks probably weigh half as much as my road bike, but I have to lock it in some very high-crime places!) and the shackle space in that seems pointlessly huge in comparison. You can probably predict some of the downsides if you've done your homework. At 2kg it's not light, but you soon forget about the weight and a light lock is a false sense of security anyway. Don't consider it as 2kg but rather as 1kg heavier than what you would otherwise carry. It's also not cheap, but as I said, I'm happy to pay to feel confident. I tend to ride the same small number of routes every week so I know where to lock up, but if you want more freedom you might find it takes too long to find somewhere suitable. Less predictable downsides for me were that it doesn't seem to have a Sold Secure rating in the UK (unlike its sister product, the Fahgettaboudit chain & padlock), meaning some insurance companies effectively ignore it (my other reason for pairing it with a Granit). It also comes without any frame mounting bracket; I believe there are third party options but at this price you'd really expect one to be thrown in for free. I have two minor problems with the mechanism, too. After a little exposure to inclement weather it gets a little superficial rust on the part of the shackle inside the body. This causes it to seize up when you try to open it. Periodic oiling (or WD-40-ing) sorts that out though. The key-retaining feature can also feel a little over-zealous when you're in a hurry - it needs to be at exactly the right angle to open or to release the key.Overall, though, I consider these minor downsides - I'm happy with it, and would certainly recommend it to a friend.

I purchased this from an Amazon Warehouse deal that was described as Used - Good - packaging may be damaged and to take advantage of their recent 20% off warehouse deals so came in at £35. As described the packaging was a bit damaged but lock as new. Please see the pics included as my review is based around them.I never really understand how in this day an age when everyone is online and post inane pics constantly on Facebook, Instagram etc people have the time to bother writing a review without including any.I don't live in a city or leave my bikes for hours unattended and I have made do with the Kryptonite Evolution Mini-7 FlexFrame Lock with 4-Feet Kryptoflex Cable - Black/Orange for a goodfew years and still have my bikes valued at between £500 - £1000If I did then I would only feel more confident leaving my bike unattended with one of these. ANY lock can be breached by a determined and professional thief.Kryptonite include an "insurance policy" if you register the lock with them which I think is £2500. Like any of these kind of warranties there are going to be lots of terms and conditions. The most blatant one with these is that you need to supply them with the breached lock! Any thief worth his - stolen - salt isn't going to be that stupid as to leave the lock there once he's used an angle grinder on it. Is he?!!Well according to one recent reviewer, who left his £3000+ bike out in public - that's exactly what he did as he uploaded pics of the cut lock. Not sure what to make of that. I had a full carbon high spec bike worth about £2000. I didn't even ride it in the wet let alone out of sight even less locked up.Unfortunately if you are the type of person to leave a bike worth more than a grand locked up and out of sight for any amount of time....you definitely shouldn't!!It's not right but it's true. This lock is heavy, it comes with no mounting bracket - not that Kryptonite care about that as all their mounts are fit for the bin only but if you lock your bike well to a sturdy object preferably in a busy area with CCTV in the vicinity only the professional thieves are gonna have your ride.Sold Secure GoldPlease see the pics as they are more informative than my review!!

First off if you are reading this you must be after a serious bike lock, and lets be honest we all want something that keeps our bicycle ours.I had my old lock for 15 years but a recent spate of bike thefts in my home town kinda got me to thinking it might be worth getting something a little more serious, its a well known fact that if a bike theif is serious about getting your bike they will use whatever they have to to steal it, because bike thieves are b*stards. with this thought in mind i did a bit of research and decided on the Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit mini lock, catchy name. The lock itself is quite heavy, its in fact the kinda heavy that you can't get a mount for it,i quite like the weight it means that when you leave the house you know its in your bag because the difference is massive, this is a bad thing if you are doing a bit of shopping as lock + cat food and pasta is a very heavy rucksack.I was at first a little worried about the size but my old lock seemed to have a massive empty space and i figured i don't need that space, i did draw out the size of the lock so i could try and see weather i could live with it... As a point of note the sizes (8.3cm x 153cm) is the internal space i.e. the space inside the D shape. Also the quoted 18mm size of the U bit is the actual metal diameter so with the vinyl cover thats closer to 21mm. The big bar part is massive... like the size of a popular energy drink with a male cow on the can.As for the lock in use i have to say its good, my bike is still mine so thats always a good start. Minor points to note are the lock itself can (i've read this but not experienced it) move a bit, what i mean is the levers inside misplace and the key won't slide in properly. Again i have not had this happen so its kinda a none point. The one thing i will say is you need to make sure the key is fully into the lock for the key to unlock it, but that is the same for all locks. Not sure if this is of any help to anyone but i just thought i'd type it out.cheers, Mark

at first I was a bit put off by the smaller size, it definitely looked like it wouldn't fit but much to my relief it fits tightly and cannot move around bike racks here in the UK.I am using this lock with a roadbike not mountain or thick frame/wheel style bike and it fits very well every time, something to note before buying it, if you have a mountain bike, get the larger version, you WILL need the extra depth. It is quite heavy but for the size isn't as heavy as I expected, you can easily lock it to your front handlebars and it won't move around whilst in transit. No need to buy a lock mount in my opinion.I use this with the Kryptonite cable and hook that around this through my seat and front wheel.I am very confident that my bike won't be touched by bike thieves since getting it! there is often only millimetres of movement which helps it be even more secure than a bigger D-lock, that's why I chose this one over the larger and heavier version. I always lock my bike around the frame AND wheel onto the rack, never just the frame or back wheel, something to bear in mind! The ultra-violet light on the key is also very useful and unbelievably bright, so does it's job.The fact that this lock has a lifetime guarantee and your bike is covered for one year shows how confident they are about it being secure! need I say more? who else offers this? It's also GOLD rated, the highest possible rating. The yellow/black strong colours also deter the bike thieves and like a wasp are a sign of danger for any idiot who thinks they can brake it. Don't be a fool, get a one today, your bike is worth it.

Great lock, according to many reputable sources and independent tests this is the only bicycle lock that isn't able to be cut easily with full length bolt croppers and will require power tools to be used in order to be cut. It's heavy but I have mine attached to the frame of by bike with a bracket I made for it, after having used it for some months now daily the lock mechanism is still working fine and locks the shackle firmly in place, it does not wiggle when locked or in any way feel to have loosened up with use. The PVC cover on the shackle has proven to be tough and has not cracked. I have kept the lock barrel lubricated with spray lubricant and it still turns like it did when new.I recommendthis item to someone who needs something more sturdy than your average chain or shackle lock and perhaps also leaves their bike somewhere where it is not feasible for a thief to use power tools (being seen/heard) and still maintaining some portability by fixing it to the bike frame rather than carrying it when not in use. It is definitely a trade off in terms of weight for security but it's fully worth it, I've left my bike in areas known to be rife with thieves and nobody has tried to cut it, perhaps they know they can't. (lots of bikes with cheap locks get stolen in my area and I'm not the only one who uses this lock and still has their bike). As a last point, this could make quite an effective self defence tool similar to how a maglite would if you were attacked while out on your bike, I would not like to be struck with this item, it's compact heavy and solid.

Having pretty much waited for long enough for the price of this to drop from the 99-110 i'd seen it at for yrs, i found a bargin at 45. Best money spent on a lock so far. Even at the quoted 60, i'd say it is a lot of lock for the money - but with limitations. Peace of mind is the main pluspoint, because that 2kg.... i'm not small and i'm used to carrying big packs, but this thing has weight and you feel it. So it does not lend itself to trips away for example. But it's ideal if youtravel to one place, or leave your bike outside regular and can perhaps leave it locked there for when you need it - but this defeats the object of the 'mini'. As mentioned elsewhere,i concur that the insides,if used in allweathers as all my locks have to be, does cause problems if not looked after from time to time. The lockingballs have stucka couple of times for me, but i'm positive that this is because ofthe extremes of weather. I've even dropped my lock off a bridge with the key in it; the key shattered but everything else survived intact. If you want portability, and are not in a high crime spot, i'd go with the Kryptonite Evolution Mini Lock with Bracket; It's more rucksack friendly. Otherwise, and you can spare 60.. i don't see better out there without getting a lot bigger.

Some kids tried to nick my scooter. They easily went trough on the cheap yellow disk lock on my front wheel and my good luck was that an othe D-lock was holding my rear wheel. After this incident, I decided to get a stronger lock for my rear wheel (Honda PCX) to give the criminals more work to do before they can roll away. The lock is heavy and thick. They can not use a bolt cutter on it but an angle grinder. They need to cut it on booth sides. It would take at least 2 minutes and 60% of the battery. The lock arrives with 3 keys.I saw how clever youtubers can pick any lock but I think kids will not start fiddle with it - especially if the lock is in an awkward position. Same for the grinder. If it is difficoult to reach, the grinder is useless.I think this one is a bit small for a bicycle because you can not attach it to a thicker lamp post, only to bicycle racks. If I would be a thief with a grinder, I would cut the rack, instead of this...I know that there is no 100% security but at least it can make the thieves life more difficult amd hopefully they just skip your bike (if it not something what they really want). This lock is heavy and thick. That makes me trust.I will update this review if I loose the lock or the bike.

I had my mountain bike stolen in September 2012, which was locked up with three cable locks, all cut through with wire cutters. I replaced my bike through my insurance, and bought this lock based on reviews, and also a video on YouTube of it trying to be broken. I also have a road bike, which I bought a heavy duty chain lock for. I discovered this morning that my road bike has been stolen (being secured with the heavy duty chain lock), but that my mountain bike was still in my possession. They have had a really good go at getting through this D lock, there is evidence of some sort of electric angle grinder or something having been used, which has broken the chain lock, but made very little impact on the Kryptonite lock. They have also gouged pieces out of the crossbar of my mountain bike (it's a right mess) while trying to cut this lock, but it really hasn't made much of a dent at all. I'd say they're about 1/10th of the way through it! So yes, it's expensive, yes it's heavy, but I am proof that this lock really is as secure as you can get. If you value your bike (as I do both of mine, very very upset) then invest. It's worth it.

I bought this lock as a replacement for a D-lock that I was sold with my new bike. Within 3 days of using my new bike someone tried to have a go at the original D-lock. Luckily they didn't get my bike but the lock was damaged and unusable afterwards. After some research I discovered the Kryptonite New York mini lock. Its an excellent lock, not only sturdy and secure but also a great deterrent. I don't think any bike thieves have even sniffed at my bike since I started using the lock.On a down side what I would say is that being a "mini" lock means its a very snug fit to get it around my bike frame and the rack I'm attaching it to, as such some of the thicker racks are impossible to attach it too. Also, I do use the lock with a cable around my wheels which adds to the security but it also adds to the weight of the hardware, and this lock is pretty heavy.Saying all that I would rather have the piece of mind that comes with the extra weight. Not a lock for casual cyclists but excellent for a daily bike user who needs security.

The price of around GBP 50 seems good (one also gets the new model). My impression is that this lock gives maximum available security (if the size is sufficient), for a very good price (likely due to the small size). You need to figure it out whether it fits: but if it fits, then the fit is perfect, better than the standard size of U-locks, since no slackness (which also helps against the bicycle falling over).I also prefer it to have no bracket for carrying with the bicycle ("mounting device"): I never use that, and then that bracket is just in the way.The keyhole cover feels alright. The small size reduces weight (2 kg), and makes transportation easier.Using some dedicated lock-lubrication,yet I didn't have problems with any of my Kryptonite locks (which all are placed outside).Summary: maximum security, with a specialised form you don't find otherwise.(I believe in general we needed much more specialisation -- no more of that old rubbish "one size fits all").

I bought this lock along with it's bigger brother (the New york M18-WL) to secure my electric bike as safe as possible. To be honest I have to say that this lock is a little smaller than I thought it would be. it just fits around my wheel and then the frame of the bike. i couldn't use uit to secure the bike to a railing or similar. But for securing the motor wheel of the bike I couldn't think of anything better to be honest. I would reommend getting it big brother to enable you to secure the bike to an object as well. The keys work perfectly and slide in and turn easily with no resistance at all. One of them has a little LED built in and that works too.The lock is surprising heavy for its size but you can easily see why it is Gold rated for security - You would never, easily, remove this by force. Even if you used an angle grinder you would have to cut both sides of the u bolt to remove it properly. This lock will meet all insurance requirements.

Bought mine 2 years ago and have used it daily on both my 125 when learning and on my F800ST once I passed, it's been used indoors and out and seen 2 british winters (including the beast from the east), stood up well under those conditions, the actual lock works flawlessly, the deadbolts have needed a bit of a clean a lube from time to time, but never stopped the lock form working, just got a little sticky to open. It's small enough to be easily carried and large enough to bolt through my wheels (rear or front). The shackle is quite thick and i've struggled to use it with a chain (i actually use a Kryptonite disc lock and 90cm chain as well). All in all it's a great lock and worth the investment.I reckon that if crims did want to have a go at the thing with an angle grinder they'd probably managed it, but it's certainly take some doing and they'd probably use so much battery they'd not get through a second lock on the bike.

this is the best lock on the market to date. I own a $6000 trek madone.I live in Portland Oregon and I use it as a commuter bike the lock is big but Compact. I challenge somebody trying to get through that thing!!!the only downside is the weight.but I carry a backpack at all times when I'm on my bike. I also use on guard wheel locks.. Between those two items I have kept my bike now for 2 years and I literally lock it up everywhere in Portland.the lock is small. But I have yet to find a place that I was not able to lock my bike up to ..a little secret to keep the lock mechanism working smoothly. Is to lubricate it every couple of months with some type of us lightweight bicycle oil lubricant..I'm tellin yah if you are debating buying this lock. Then you're missing out. Because if you got this lock you would be keeping your bike!!the weight of this lock is a very small price to pay for keeping your bike yours!!!

This lock is typical American old fashioned engineering, it is total overkill! It's heavy, its solid, and even with the right tools, it would be a lot of hard work to get through this. The bright yellow is visible from a distance and serves as a great visual deterrent. I have to be honest the colour was the only reason I chose it over an Abus Granit 54. The Abus looks like any run of the mill cheap D lock, whereas the everyone knows what a Kryptonite is.One minor point, the key/lock action is not as slick as my Abus Borbo (or any Abus for that matter). If you ride a Mountain Bike, this may not be the best choice, I have 2.2 tyres on, and the lock will not go around the tyre and seat tube.I use it only for the frame.Unfortunately I have to lock my bike up outside at night, I use a chain as well as my Abus Bordo, but I sleep a lot better now that I have added the Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit.
