Good lock, good chain. I like the noose feature. It does get to be a bit of a hassle to thread the ring, but the only way around it would be to buy two locks which would obviously cost more and I'm not sure would be less hassle. I lived in a small apartment in a moderate crime area, outdoor bike storage was my only option. About a month after acquiring this lock and "noose" chain, someone attempted to defeat it to steal two bikes. I think they attempted to hacksaw through the chain which left narry a scratch. They did attempt the same on the lock shackle and succeeded in scratching off the black paint. Some (hammer?) blows to the lock only broke off the plastic barrel cover.Pick attempt resulted in breaking the tip of the screwdriver (which they left behind) off inside the barrel and ultimately failed. The system succeeded in securing my bike against this attack. Thumbs up, for that.HOWEVER, either due to the broken screwdriver tip jamming in the barrel mechanism, or damage to the mechanism itself, I was unable to fully insert the key and unlock it. I fiddled for quite some time with no success and finally called Kryptonite to explain the problem. The customer service rep was extremely helpful and promptly told me to cut off the lock and ship it back and they'd send me a new one. I used a wide (1/4", I think) cutting disc, but recommend the 1/8" ones if you need to do this as the wide one had to remove so much material it took a long time. Maybe eight to ten minutes per cut, and I did have to cut it twice to get the bike free. I sent the lock to Kryptonite and after just a couple weeks I received a new Evolution 4 Series Disc Lock, with carry holster and reminder cable. So, in short: great security for the price and 5-STAR customer service from Kryptonite, but I'm disappointed this type of lock cylinder can be damaged so easily. Given that this disc lock isn't really large enough to secure directly to the bike frame (with the exception of chain/seat stays), in the future I'll probably get a high security padlock to secure the chain to itself. There are better security chains, but they cost much, much more and will still fall to a grinder. After much research, here's my assessment: this noose chain from Kryptonite probably cost me about $50 bucks as part of the system and is very close to being impenetrable with hand tools. A strong person with quality four foot bolt cutters and something to pry against could cut it, but it wouldn't be easy. Stronger chains that are 100% impenetrable with hand tools are much heavier and cost four to six times the amount, but they could still be cut quite easily with power tools. So, I could pay half the value of my bike for a chain for slightly higher security, but in the event the chain gets cut and the bike stolen, insurance would cover the loss of the bike. I'm not sure insurance would cover the loss of the nearly-as-expensive-chain. Frankly, if a thief knew what was what, that expensive chain could actually be a target (i.e. cut the lock and steal the bike AND the chain). I decided that this Kryptonite chain is a "reasonable" degree of security that doesn't go overboard for my current needs.

I got this lock to use for two purposes:1) locking up my 1980s cheapo road bike for an all-day stay by a DC metro station2) locking up my "steal me" looking fancy road bike for short periods of timeYes, it weighs a ton. Yes, it's kind of inconvenient to carry around. But when a bike thief looks at a rack of bikes and sees this thing, he's definitely going to spend his time messing with something else. As many have pointed out, a thief can ultimately break any lock - the key to security is deterrence, and this one will definitely deter someone looking for a quick job. The majority of thieves here in DC seem to favor the car screw jack approach to pop U-locks - that approach is impossible with this lock due to the size of the locking mechanism. For me,the best way to carry this thing is bandoleer style. Be aware that putting it in a bag will pretty much crush anything in the bag, as well as make the bag super heavy. Putting the lock on is definitely a two-handed routine - need to get the pieces all in place...so this can be a bit of a pain if you're trying to hold a few things, etc.Ultimately, this lock won me over for the peace of mind that it provides when I'm locked up with it. If you want yours to be the last bike messed with, this is a great choice.

I originally ordered this lock to keep my wallet safely secured to my pants. After ruining 4 pairs of JNCO's I decided to brainstorm. What else could I use this multi-pound beast for? I hopped on my Vespa, Bernie, and v-lined for the local pharmacy to pick up my daily dose of Rolos and diet A&W, when I noticed a gangly group of majorities crowding the entry door. I needed my brainfood, so I revved my 50CC engine to intimidate them. Their music must have had them caught in a trance, so I beeped Bernie's horn to alert them once more. Nothing. That's when I remembered and retrieved the Kryptonite New York Noose. You could smell the fear in their eyes. I swung the chain like a billy stick, approaching them calmly. They started coming at me one by one, but they were no match for the 10mm glowing golden circles of death. After a brief one minute routing I was greeted with thunderous applause from local patrons and the entire Walgreens staff. I was their hero. This lock will rock your world, change your life, and sustain innocence in this treacherous, kleptomatic world. Buy this now. Stop searching. Stop looking on Craigslist, Google Shopping, and/or eBay, and buy this lock before I buy the entire stock and chain all that I love to immovable objects.

This chain is smaller than the Fahgettaboudit, but it is still freakin huge. I use it to lock up my scooter and it looks downright intimidating. The lock is bright orange and the chain is a shiny gold, which should catch any potential thief's eye and hopefully make them consider another target. The noose design of this chain is great... since the chain doesn't have to meet in the middle, you have a lot more freedom when locking up. It isn't as much of a problem with a bicycle, but for a motorcycle or scooter you need every extra inch you can get. Please be aware that even this chain is NOT PERFECT PROTECTION. No lock or chain is cut-proof. It still helps a ton to keep your bike/scoot out of sight, and under a cover. That being said, this chain does give me peace of mind. I use it at home, where my scooter sits most of the time. Also keep in mind that the chain is HEAVY. I keep a different smaller chain with me when going to the store, etc. I have heard stories of scooters being stolen as someone heads into a grocery store for 5 minutes, but ANY chain should deter this. I mainly worry about mine being stolen at home, since that is where it sits 90% of the time and all throughout the night.

I got this lock because the chain can be looped, noose-like, through a rack or secure anchor and then the lock's reach is nearly the full length of the chain. (Most chain locks can't do this, so you're essentially buying twice as much chain for no extra protection. I put the disc lock through the rear triangle of my frame. Max reach and good protection.I would avoid feeding this through spokes because it's heavy enough that its weight actually deflect a bike spoke. (!)It is ridiculously heavy. I love this. I *hope* it says "more than a couple of minutes with an angle grinder" to a thief, and that's about all you can wish for, isn't it?! :-) I use it with a cargo bike,so weight doesn't matter. It's uncommon I see another bike locked with something stronger. This is the most important test for a lock, IMO. Choose your anchor wisely and your bike will *not* be the low-hanging fruit.

This thing is super sturdy. Slightly overkill in most situations probably. But I chained my bike to a metal fence near a baseball stadium during the world series this year and came back to it unscathed. I'd feel safe leaving my bike anywhere with this. My only gripe coincides with a benefit, and it's that this chain is long. I sash it across my body vs wrapping it around my waist. it makes riding with any bag kinda weird, but it's not that big of a deal. Also the length is a benefit as I can thread the chain through both wheels and through the back of the frame, which secures every aspect of the bike (except the saddle.) Really good stuff! I may get a mini U lock when I anticipate quicker rides though,as those are more convenient to carry around.

This is one heavy duty lock, its great peace of mind knowing my bike is kept safe when I need to park it somewhere. I decided on this specific model because of the length. I'm able to tie it through both wheels and frame around a pole. Any shorter and I would have to take the front wheel off. This strong of a chain comes with a price though, weighing about 10lbs it's not something you forget is there. I throw in my backpack only when I know Ill need it, but it is great using it when you need to. I would much rather go through a little inconvenience carrying it then finding a cut cable where my bike was left and walking home telling myself I should have got a better lock.

I use it for my motorcycles.Cons:Dogs tend to have a pissing contest when they see this chain as if its a fire hydrant.Like all chains it could be cut by a very determined individual. I have herd that cops & firefighters have tools to cut them now. Sometimes the lock rusts inside and can be hard to open, spray some lock lube or WD-40 and takes care of the problem.Pros:The noose lets you have about 30 inches of length from the pole to the back tire. when wrapping around a parking pole. Heavy, sturdy. long enough to extend the chain from one tire to another. Easily chains two motorcycles to each other has the potential to chain up to 3 motorcycles.

Excellent lock which provides adequate security to keep my bicycle where i left it.I have enough room after looping through round link to reach my seat ,and i lock that as well with another sturdy lock.In the city ,i see Kryptonite is the lock of choice for those who want to be able to come back to where they left their bike and see it still there. Also i have to say,i have seen bicycles that only had just the frame locked.I have seen "many"frames only,or wheels only locked to a metal post, because the owner did not protect their bicycle properly by locking both wheels, and also the frame to a sturdy metal post.

See you tube for duability proof this is a 3plus minute lock easy. Any cutting beach requires a grinder no chance with bolt cutters!WhY I needed the 5+ foot 10+ pound lock, Lightpoles are the only choice around here for locking up as my area fails to see the value in bike racks. No I did not buy this for brand or anti theft insurance included.Keep in mind the 1275 is only 7 pounds and same quality if you like the idea but don't want a TEN POUND lock the has to live on my rear rack when not used. Absolutly sign up for key replacement and the insurance just in case as you did pay for it.

These locks are overpriced but seem very sturdy and a chain lock has the added bonus of a bit more flexibility than a ulock when securing your bike. Kryptonite as a company are more than a little questionable with their included anti theft protection offer: "Terms and conditions are subject to change at the sole discretion of Kryptonite" is an extremely disingenuous term to use in a service they charge money for beyond the first year, especially given they already have a laundry list of steps that must be taken to be compensated in the event of a theft.

I feel very safe leaving my Honda Ruckus locked up with this chain. I create a noose around a pipe/bike rack/street sign and then slide the lock through the rear wheel "rim". I'm also able to wrap the chain around the base of the seat when riding or traveling rather than having to carry it balled up together in a bag (it's pretty heavy). It is fairly short so it would be difficult to chain my moped up to anything that has a thick base (telephone pole, street light, etc.) but all in all I feel like I've purchased an insurance policy for around $75!

This chain is made very well. It's strong in the cover on top of the chain keep the chain clean. The key it also comes with has a small light attached to it, although mine came dead. I deathly recommend buying this chain if you have to Parkette on the street or somewhere other than your garage. Small issue I have with this chain and others were purchased it, is that the key doesn't enter smoothly into the lock. I wish you would come slightly greased from the manufacture. After spraying some WD-40 inside the lock I found it to be much more smooth

If you want to keep something "yours", this is a good way to do it. Super stout chain. Heavy, but that's really the entire idea. The sling style eyelet makes a shorter chain much more useful than a conventional chain that needs more length. Lock works easily, with minimal effort. Chain cover is durable, and stays in place without issue. Rubberised lock coating protects items it may contact. 2 keys included. It would take someone a while to grind thru this beast, which hopefully encourages the thieves to look for a easier target elsewhere.

I took the 1275 version which allows me to grab the front wheel and the bicycle frame together with a small sized anchor object. Despite the best intentions behind the design, the 1275 is quite short to do more than that if used by its own. This chain is 9/10 on producer's scale so it's my overnight reinforcement to the 10/10 lock that I use for the back wheel and frame.Beware that all of these are only deterrents, anyone should go through youtube videos to understand what actual protection is getting.
