When reading reviews of cars I often find myself thinking that a comparison made was not fair because car 'A' is twice the cost of car 'B'. I hope that I am not falling foul of such a mistake in this review for the Hoover ... 3 in 1. It costs more than other cleaners that I have recently reviewed - most of them very good given the price - but is nonetheless worth every penny extra. Any observations that I have about the Hoover are trivial but in the name of fairness I am duty bound to mention them. One point to note is that when finishing hoovering please make sure that you stand the hoover back up carefully - don't do what I did when I almost nonchalently 'threw'it into an upright position: doing so will cause the hoover to bounce back and fall over on itself. Second point of note is that the hoover is so free wheeling, in all axis, that flipping to the left or right, for example, can make it feel as if it is going to tilt over - it won't, I can assure you of that.To my mind, this Hoover sets the standard for other to match. The build quality is excellent; the user-manual 1st class in respective of visual and comprehension clarity. The power brush can be selected as on for carpets or off for hard floors. To save energy and to save your carpets from unnecessary wear and tear, when the body of the cleaner is placed in an upright position, the power brushes will switch off; and will automatically switch back on again when the body of the cleaner is tilted to restore cleaning. All switches, such as power button, brush power selector, removal of tank etc are clearly marked and look like they won't wear off in '2 minutes' so to speak. There is a 'pet turbo brush' included in the set of accessories but from my experience of that brush (I have an identical one on another make of cleaner) unless you need such a small size for small areas, you won't need it much as the normal attachments do such a great job. At first, when opening the box I thought that one of the attachments was faulty inasmuch as it was bent; I now know that it is the flexible tube for hard to access places.Of course, most vacuum cleaners pick up some fibres from a carpet - and naturally this one is no exception - but, to say that I was amazed at how much dust it collected would be an understatement given that it was only about one week ago that I cleaned the house carpets. The Hoover H-Lift 700 Pets XL has restored my faith in Hoover to produce a cleaner of the standard which we had come to expect from them - given their pedigree.

The Hoover H-Lift 700 Pets XL really is a substantial machine. Assembly was fairly intuitive, although I have to admit I double-checked my work with the instruction manual just to make sure.Almost all the time I am using this hoover in its fully assembled form as a stand-up hoover, which I suspect means I'm not making the most efficient use of its other configurations.Every time I have unplugged the main unit from what I suppose you'd call the base - the bit with the wheels that makes it a stand-up hoover - it's taken quite a few attempts at aligning and clicking things correctly for it to suddenly go into place. Now this is okay for me because I'm a fairly strong fellow, but if you combine the overall very high weight of this hoover, with the need to hold a heavy main unit in place as you frantically try and plug it into the base means that it would make a good stage in a strong-man assault course. The upgright mode has its own variant which, which involves uplugging the hose and using it for detailed sucking work, in corners of sofas, that sort of thing. But you can also use it in stick mode, which is easy to start, but as I say, hard to stop when you come to reassamble the machine. But stick mode is helpful if you want to have a lightweight stick for things like stairs, while holding the motor unit in the other hand. As I say, it's a heavy machine so you feel like you've had a workout when you've finished hoovering the carpet on one flight of stairs. And finally there is lift-out mode which is much like stick mode but you are essentially just equipped with a nozzle, and this is the lightest combination, but doesn't have the benefit of the rotating brushes which are very effective on a rug or carpet. You get a bunch of extra attachments in a black nylon bag that you can carry around with you, but this further adds to the weight of the whole machine. In summary - this is an attractive machine, maybe a bit manly in the colour scheme if you think dark grey and metallic red buttons indicate something about gender. It's great if you have dogs or cats as the pet filters really do a good job of keeping fur and dust down. Like all machines with a transparent dust collector you end up needing to wash it or live with an increasingly dusty-looking device. Most importantly, it's mighty heavy and I suspect some people would really struggle to use it for long sessions, which limits how much hoovering you will want to do.

We have a cat and two children, so we need to vacuum quite often. We'd been using a good old Henry with a vacuum-powered brush head, which seemed to do a pretty good job, but we got this upright thinking it might be a little better on carpets. It turns out, it's a LOT better, and the amount of dust it picked up on its first use not that long after we'd vacuumed with our Henry was frankly embarrassing! The difference in the carpet where the pile was lifted was also really noticeable - it is far, far better at "fluffing up" the carpet and making it feel noticeably softer than the Henry's brush head ever could. The beater bar (brush) is powered by a separate motor rather than via a belt,so it means it can be turned off when you're on a hard floor and don't need it, but also means it can continue working when you lift off the vacuum canister from the head and tube for better reach under furniture etc. It also means no belts to burn out, and it will stop automatically if you overload it (e.g. the nose of the head getting pushed down when hoovering up to the front of the couch) or have stayed in the same spot for more than a couple of seconds. The latter seems to be worked out by a sensor on one of the wheels. If you stop moving the cleaner for a couple of seconds, the brush bar will stop, and it'll restart when you move again. The flexibility to be able to lift off the body of the vacuum is a nice feature, making getting far under furniture that bit easier, and also making stairs easier as it can be used as a canister cleaner instead. That said, though, I still find it a bit of a pain for stairs, I've never been much of a fan of the elastic stretchy hoses on uprights, far preferring the hose on my Henry.Emptying the canister is dead easy and quick - push bin release, pull it out and up, hold over your dustbin and push the lever to open the bottom, give it a shake if needed, then close it and put it back, job done.Overall, poor Henry has seen little action since this one arrived, but will be kept for car cleaning.EDIT: less than two years later, the brush bar no longer functions. Not sure what's gone wrong there. Good old Henry is back in the game!

I was really looking forward to putting this Hoover through its paces as my last (cheaper) cleaner had all but lost its suction. Most importantly, the suction is ineffective for collecting dust and bits on the carpet when using the main body of the Hoover unless you set the carpet brush into operation. How do you switch on/off the brush bar? I found the button some two days after initially using this machine by chance (it was really bothering me) and I have now found it also in the 'stick mode' instruction quick guide. However, I did find this machine heavy to move, especially on the wrist although it could be manipulated and twisted with ease to the extent that it felt like taking an over-excited dog for a walk.I did not always feel in control of it! Moreover, this hoover is bulky (see photos). The mini turbo, is very effective and did vacuum up hair effortlessly. The downside is that this is also very noisy to use. The unit is bagless and has a capacious dust buster receptacle. I confirm that it is easy to empty out with a quick release button. There are lots of different segments to put together and whilst this is largely ‘easy assembly’, even reading the clear and diagrammatic instructions it has been a puzzle at times and I found the quick start guide and user manual unnecessarily confusing: one guide is enough, surely? The instructions are perhaps not as comprehensive as they should be. Further, a few other parts of the machine disassembled rather too easily including the carry handle a couple of times! I found the end of the handle also kept catching on my jeans pockets, with the result that the plastic cap flicked off repeatedly and irritatingly. On a positive note, the lead is pleasingly very long and stretches from room to room and up the stairs without the need to move sockets. It is not retractable but the lead can be tidied and wound onto hooks after use. The machine also looks smart, it is solid and there is a handy matching mesh bag in which instructions and spare parts can be stored for easy access. And lastly, I did not know my carpets had so much dust: this is a dust-buster of a cleaner!

This is a very expensive hoover and it's selling points are that it picks up pet hair and you can use it three ways for easy usage.Pros:- It picks up pet hair thoroughly even from carpet and sofa. This is even better than my old Henry hoover for pet hair- The three ways to use it are all effective - you can use it as a regular upright, pull out the handle to reach under furniture and lift off the "canister" bit to do the stairs.- Although it's heavy, it rolls about like a dream and is very easy to use. You can move it into any position and it does indeed feel effortless to use.- Strong suction that picks up everything.- Very good lookingCons- It's heavy and bulky. You won't like it in a small house or if your wrists are weak. The most I've ever paid for a hoover is £140 (Henry Xtra) and this Hoover compares favourably. I like the stand up design and I LOVE that you can take the canister off and walk around with it. It almost feels like two hoovers in one.The sticking point for me is the price. £199 is shockingly high - but then I remembered that not only did I purchase a Henry, but I also purchased a £100 rechargeable stick hoover that I brought to use for when I wanted to do a bit of quick cleaning in the hallway etc. This stick hoover is a waste of money because the suction is pitiful and it's just sitting there fully charged but never used because it always takes me twice the time to clean up with that.So the moral of the story is that this Hoover is defintely worth it if you need powerful suction and if you need a degree of portability for the quick jobs. It's not cordless of course, but my one and only experience of a rechargeable stick means I wouldn't be in a hurry to go cordless again.Summary: This Hoover H-Lift 700 Pets XL is a great choice for a busy household where you want to make sure that when you clean, everything gets picked up and you're not wasting your time.

You don't realise how rubbish your old vacuum is until you get a good one. And that's exactly what happened to us! We have had a Henry for quite a while and this seemed to be doing a great job, but in an effort to stop using bags we wanted to look for an alternative. We came across the H-Lift 700 Pets XL and went all in (purchased at £170) as we didn't have Dyson money to spend, and the feature set looked perfect for us.Well, let me tell you, that first vacuum session after it arrived was eye opening! After putting the Hoover together, which was incredibly easy by the way, and running this round the first half of the room I was astounded and what this thing was picking up!You think you have everything clean until something like this comes along. We had to empty the bin several times during our excursion through the house, making up for years of cleaning missed by our poor little Henry. He really had his work cut out for him poor little guy.The vacuum itself is easy to manoeuvre in it's upright form, with movement forward helped by the spinning brushes. But if you need to get underneath some furniture, or just find it too heavy to move like this, you can take the main body off and just use the stick. My wife found this particularly useful especially as she is 37 weeks pregnant! And for those edges, corners and hard to reach places, the house detaches from the stick to enable you to use the many tools provided for all such nooks and crannys. It's simple to use, it's mighty powerful, and so far we have thoroughly enjoyed how much cleaner our carpets have been. And for the price, this is a perfect buy for any family looking to replace an old vacuum.

I prefer an upright vacuum and this one looks great..and I have got used to it now but it was noticeably heavier at first so anyone with hand grip/strength issues might find it tricky.POSITIVES:* Upright, no need for stooping or weak attachments.* Great suction, picks up cat hair and human hair (daughters moult too ;-)) without needing to pick it up manually.* Swivel head means you can get to hard to reach places more easily and the cleaner almost 'glides' (runs away!) without you!* Simple and clean to empty without having to get your hands in to pull dust or tangled hair out.* Long cord ( I was able to vacuum upstairs and downstairs in my 3 bed semi from it being plugged into the hallway).* If you prefer, you can remove the lift out cylinder to do the stairs but as I then need the rest of it for doing upstairs I just used the whole thing. I did find this useful for the car though, and for doing the top corners of rooms where you might get a stray cobweb.NEGATIVES:* It's heavy. Because it glides away I found I had to 'reign it in' and that became a chore because of its weight.* I found it struggled with my shaggy living room rug. It felt like it needed the beater mode on, but if I tried that it switched itself back to normal mode which didn't manage the pile as well. I appreciate that maybe a tool swap might be necessary but for busy people who just want to run a vacuum cleaner around the downstairs of the house, I feel the ability to cope well with different floorings would be more advantageous (and popular).

I inherited my present vacuum cleaner from my mother, so bear with me a bit!Arrived well packed and all present and correct. Took us a whole afternoon to work out what all the bits were though. There are two booklets which are quite helpful - if one doesn't answer your question, the other one probably will. And they are written in plain English!! Horray!!As a piece of household kit, I have to say it's very well engineered, albeit in plastic. Some real thought has gone into producing a machine to do all the routine cleaning tasks you would want a vacuum cleaner to do, including the car. Once I got my head around what all the bits are for and what detaches from/fits together with what,it's all really quite intuitive as to how you use it. And I'll be pleased not to have to faff about with paper bags again. The carpet cleaning function requires that you engage the brushes in the head by pressing one of the many buttons - then the machine becomes really noisy, but it picks up the bits a treat. I tried the flexible nozzle in the fluff catcher at the bottom of the front door. Excellent. The noise is one of the downsides. The other is that the machine is heavy. So, for the noise and the weight, I'm giving it only 4 stars.

Hoover H-Lift 700 Pets XL Vacuum4* Suck it Up!This is replacing a Dyson Ball Pet vacuum that neither me nor the missus could get along with. Anyone worried about performance should not be. This picks up more dirt and pet hair than the ball did and I even tested them side by side on the same carpet to check this.A nice range of attachments are provided, most of which clip on the hoover itself, though a drawstring carry bag is also included. Its a doddle to assemble and includes a one year warranty. The Hoover can be set up in several ways to make it easier to clean stairs or under furniture or just as a standard upright. The stair cleaning mode did seem to make the task a little more comfortable. The bagless canister is easy to remove and empty but does include filters which will need washing from time to time. The only thing that prevents me from giving this a big solid 5* is that parts of the plastic unit and connections feel as if over time they may be prone to breaking. Perhaps I'm wrong but the quality just doesn't feel up to previous vacuum cleaners I've owned, including the dyson.Overall though pretty impressed and it should last a while. Personally I feel the performance is worth making the jump.

Hoover was once a household name and was synonymous with the word vacuum. In the last 20 years it has been overshadowed by other brands, but now it is back with a boom! Well-engineered, versatile and really powerful. It comes with several attachments which covers pretty much all eventualities. Easy to change the attachments and the ‘carry around’ canister is such a good feature. The mini turbo is a good addition whether you have pets or not. It isn’t the lightest one on the market but in my opinion, it isn’t that heavy or clumsy. It’s easy to manage with good mobility. Its best feature is the suction and let’s be honest this really is the most important element of a vacuum. I’m sick of powerless vacuums, mainly the cordless ones; so, it’s great to get back to one with a bit of punch. I’ve come to realise that whilst a power cable is a bit annoying, the power out-weighs the effort of plugging it in.Only slight down side is that it doesn’t feel as sturdy or well-built as older products (nothing is built to last these days!). This coupled with a slight tendency to fall over if not stood completely straight when in storage, means I foresee a bit of cracked plastic in the future.

This is an incredibly powerful hoover, the amount of dirt it picked up from my living room rug despite the fact it is hoovered every day was amazing. It has a large amount of attachments and I like the way you can pull it apart to use it in a different way. Its very quiet given its size and this is definitely a bonus. This cord it long enough to hoover our entire bungalow and you can find an attachment for any job. It picks up pet hair really well and we have two long hair cats so I was really pleased about this. However there are a few downsides. This hoover is so heavy its borderline not useable, my arm aches from using it and I have to swap arms,I can't do the whole bungalow in one go - it's too heavy - this is a major downside for me. The tube at the back sticks out too much - its gets in the way and some of the attachments fall off when put in their spot - These are just minor issues.I would recommend this hoover, it's really powerful, however just bear in mind - its heavy.

Wow what can I say, on opening the box I was shocked at how many bits and pieces where included there’s literally a tool for everything within the box.Error one was doing what most people do and thought who needs instructions I’ll just build it myself (don’t do this it’s far easier once you do it the correct way)Error two was not pushing the bin release button down far enough for it to click into place properly so I thought I have a defective product until in steps my 10 year old son to do it properlyAnyway after error one and two I was finally up and running and boy am I in love, the cable length is AMAZING, it picked up far more than I want to admit or show,it glides across the floor with ease and isn’t half as heavy as some are making out.The major downside in my opinion in how noisy it is and the fact it learn forward more than I was expecting but nothing drastic and it doesn’t topple over.Dog fluff, human hair and general carpet mess all picked up with ease

The suction is brilliant for carpets or hard floors. Pressing the carpet button on the Hoover nearly moved along the carpet by itself (although it makes it go from a quiet hoover to a fairly loud one). It had been 1 day since I’d last hoovered when I tested it for the first time and it picked up twice as much than my old Hoover even though it had been 3 days before that hoover (it was half the price of this one but at only 2 months old you wouldn’t have expected to see so much difference)! It’s got lots of bits you can attach to hoover all different crevices. Only thing with that is how to attach the mini pet hair thing, it took a good 10 mins to work that out!!The other downside is that it is heavy, however the main heavy part of the Hoover has an easy to detach mechanism so it can be very lightweight if you’re doing stairs and easier to get it under tables and tight spots without having to get the extra attachments out.

Good vacuum cleaner, with excellent suction and cleans well.Range of tools good, and it get very close to skirting boards etc when in upright mode. There is one major flaw with the unit, which is that the hose exits half way up the body, so when using the hose either while still attached to the upright or when the cylinder is removed (this is very cleaver btw), the unit falls over at the slightest tug....very bad. It will either break the hoover at some point or damage the furniture, so you end up carrying the cylinder unit around in your other hand - which kind of defeats the object...I would give it 3 stars for this issue, however the tools and particularly the flexible pipe warrant the extra star. Some users have commented on the weight, which I don't find a problem, it's not overly heavy, but it is 'top heavy' making the above problem worse.Hoover - sort this issue out and it would be a 5 star product.

Overall I would say this is a great vacuum! The suction is really strong and I like that even when the beater bar is on it doesn’t just flick the debris about… it sucks it right up! I did have some difficulty with vacuuming the rug but after altering it slightly, I sorted it. It’s a very sturdy vacuum which means it is heavier than I normally have - But this really isn’t a problem. The cord is slightly shorter than my old Vax vacuum but this really isn’t a problem at all (just me being lazy having to plug it in elsewhere to reach!) The swivel head on it is really good, making it a smooth clean. The adapters for it are really useful especially when vacuuming the stairs.I like that you can change the vacuum according to what use you need it for e.g. the stairs, car etc…I wouldn’t say this vacuum is louder than any other vacuum I have owned so don’t have any problem with that. Overall this vacuum is excellent!
