Update: 20160803Ok so as promised i'm updating with the response from Anker regarding the safety of this cable, model A8163011"We'd like to reassure you that we've conducted the appropriate tests and have found no issues with any of our other USB-C tech like your A8163011. The issue concerning PowerLine USB-C A8185011 is isolated to this product alone. Please remember that all of our products are covered by Anker's 18-month warranty, during which time if your products present any technical issues, we will happily provide a full refund or exchange. Should you have any other concerns or questions please don't hesitate to let us know."So in a nutshell the issue is only for the second gen cable, the A8185011, not the A8163011 as featured on this pagePrevious Comment:The comments below are for the Gen 2 cable A8185011 but may also affect the cable listed above A8163011I've emailed Anker for comment, Anker Direct and Amazon for clarification, will update review when I've heard"It turns out that a specific cable from budget accessory provider Anker might be dangerous, because it "remembers" the voltage for the USB-C power input on some newer laptops like the Chromebook Pixel, then provides that same voltage to phones if not unplugged from a more powerful charging base. USB-C laptops are designed to take 15V-20V power input, but some phones are only designed to take inputs at up to 5V. The differential could damage low-power electronics or, in extreme cases, cause battery explosions or fires."Source Android PoliceStatement from Anker"We are offering all of our PowerLine USB-C A8185011 users a full refund. In addition, we would like to offer a free Anker PowerLine USB-C cable to affected customers once we have improved Anker PowerLine USB-C A8185011."

The cable is 3' / 900cm in length USB 3 compliant, has a standard USB-A plug on one end and the new USB type C on the other. It is packaged in an easy to open cardboard box and an ultra fine Velcro cable tie to keep it tidy while stored.I am using and testing it with my Nexus 6P on the Android N preview so could not use the Checkr app as it doesn't work with the new operating system, however, the phone correctly shows that it is not fast charging. The cable is a good thickness to handle the max 2 amps, the external size looks to be the same as the official short USB A - USB C that comes with the phone. The plugs, although a slightly different shape, has the same external dimensions also, which allows me to use it with my Google Adopted case, I have other cables that require the case to be removed first.I used an app to measure the rate it was charging, again it was the same as the Google lead. There is no point in posting the mah rate of charge as it varies depending on the state of the battery. All I can do is compare with the manufacturers official lead and it matches it in the same conditions. The data transfer of a file also matched the original cable. To sum up, if you need an extra lead to plug into a standard USB - A socket, you can't go wrong with this lead. Don't be fooled by the cheap leads (that Amazon have just banned from their store), if you have a lead with these plugs and your device says it is fast charging, the cable would be potentially dangerous. This cable is safe, provides good charging and data transfer rates with compact plugs that work with all my cases.I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation, and I promised that my review is fair and honest.

I have all the other Anker powerline cables, and when I was looking to buy a new usb type C cable it was a no brainer to get a powerline cable for ANY type of cable you need! whether its a lightning cable, usb type c or micro usb! These cables are my favorite and they are VERY DURABLE. They have thick layers and are quite long compared to the stock USB type C cable I got from HTC. I use this for my HTC 10 and it charges it to 100% in an hour or so with quick charge 3.0, I don't really use my other cables unless I'm using a portable charger nowadays, all I use are Ankers and couldn't be any happier. With anker you get the BEST customer service, that's why I am a repeat customer for them month after month since I often switch phones and I was fumbling between usb type c's and micro usb's. I would definitely recommend these cables from Anker, you won't regret it! I received this product at discount in exchange for an honest review.

The cable looks to be of good quality. It even has a Velcro tie to store it neatly. Regrettably, the USB-C plug was too tight to fit my Sony Xperia X Compact. AnkerDirect Customer Support explained...“...there are two main components that determine if a UCB-C cable will fit well with a USB-C phone. They're the hook on cable and the slot on phone. Unfortunately, the width of hook and slot is not specified particularly in the Type C specification. Different shape of hook and slot cause too tight or loose connection.”Customer Support were very active to ensure my satisfaction and were able to provide an acceptable alternative to the cable. I use their USB-micro to USB-C adaptors.(http://amzn.eu/bWFQ4me)I had originally scored the cable as two stars, but based on the response from Customer Support, I have now changed this to four.

I recently bought a new phone (Samsung A5 2017) which has a USB C socket. Having decided that a backup charger would be sensible (when you had fast charging you are unlikely to want "slow" charging") and I decided to get a spare cable too. The charger with the phone is actually USB to USB C (not C to C) so I looked around at the large variety of apparently suitable cables including some noticeably more expensive than this one. When it arrived I put it in the Samsung charger and onto the phone and it worked. I've also used the cable with a third party charger and a powerbank - worked find in both cases. I do realise that all cables are not the same however this one feels like a quality cable (and usefully has a velcro strap to keep it tidy)so I'm happy - I'll update this if there are any issues.

Full disclosure: I received this cable in exchange for my honest review. As I have come to expect from Anker, this cable is solidly constructed, with great strain relief on both ends of the cable and secure, tight fitting connectors. I'm looking to use this cable as a traveling power option for my new XPS13 which has a USB-C port and can charge via that port. I did discover that I need to acquire a wall plug capable to supplying 20V however, so I need to find a Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 or comparable wall plug to finalize this solution. My main point for going this route is that it will be a smaller solution and the wall plug can do double duty for charging my other devices as well.Coupled with Anker's 18-month warranty on all of their products, you really can't go wrong.

Those of you with Oculus Quest headsets looking to purchase a capable USB-C to USB 3.0 cable to allow your powerful gaming PC to render your VR games, look no further. This is the cable for you. HOWEVER, please note that this cable is only 3 feet in length and you will need an extension cable if you buy this. The extension cable would need to be USB 3.0 to USB 3.0 (male to female). I purchased 'Cable Matters USB to USB Extension Cable (USB 3.0 Extension Cable / USB 3 Extension Cable), Black, 3m' for £7.49 and that did the trick. Once you've connected your Quest up to your PC, everything changes. You'll get the home menu and game selection of the Rift, and games look so much better.Enjoy!

A great USB C to USB 3 cable. Slimline and solidly built.Advantages1- Solidly built and strong2 - FAST - Fast fast fast Data transfers.3 - FAST Charge4 - Strong - reinforced with Kevlar and so can be bent and stretched and won't break easily.5 - safe cable that is certified to provide the correct mA for your device.Disadvantages1 - If you want a white cable - this isn't the cable for you2 - 3.3ft was slightly short for me but might be suitable for most people.Who is this device for ? Anyone who needs a USB to USB-C charging cable.Another great product from Anker.I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation, and I promised that my review is fair and honest

Cables are very simple and basic creatures. They are largely ignored by the world, where the public are mainly interested in more complicated technologies suchs as tablets and mobile phones. However, if a cable does not behave as is expected of it, the public will quickly turn their attention and vent their anger onto the humble cable. It pleases me to report that this particular cable, whose linage can be traced directly to the Anker dynasty, is a reliable and trusted addition to any home. The length is decent, and its job of charging is done without fuss. Its is quick, and should last long. The fit is snug, and secure.

Hi,I have recently tried and tested two usb-c to usb 3.0 cables on my phone to car stereo for Androidauto. They both failed in the freeflow of data from phone to stereo. The problems I was having was Google Maps would start, when I would enter a destination it would crash and the same would happen when trying to make a call or anything else. With this I would have to come out of Andriodauto and start again, but still having the same problems. This cable has fixed it all, so thank you to Anker and hats off to you.I have done this review to only help other people who may be having the same problem as me.

This cable feels pretty solid and thick and will last quite a while - much longer than the cables supplied with the phone. The connections are well moulded to the cable and have a nice feel to them and the USB A end has the blue plastic indicating USB 3.0 compatability. I've always had great success with Anker products and they take extra effort to ensure you are pleased with the product. With the cable they also supplied a small velcro tab to keep it all neat - a nice extra touch.I'll always buy Anker cables which are great value for so little money and never seem to give up!

I have bought the same cable a few months back and this new one is harder to bend and thicker. I prefer the softer material used before as it's more flexible when used around the car. If you have to wire it out of your armrest USB, you may not be able to shut the armrest door like me in my E-class. You can say it's tougher than before but the connectors in the old one weren't half bad.I have used it a few months now and it still gives me a nice 'click' sound when I put the wire in. Works well with my Nexus 6P but doesn't charge rapidly like the original charger and wire.

FIRST FAILURE FROM ANKER, CABLE DID NOT FIT SECURELY IN PHONE RESULTING IN LOW CHARGE READINGS. IN FAIRNESS TO ANKER, THIS IS FAR FROM THIER NORM AND THEY SORTED THINGS OUT IMMEDIATELY, FIRST CLASS CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM AMAZON AND ANKER.( ADDITIONAL FEEDBACK. ANKER CUSTOMER SERVICES CONTACTED ME REGARDING THE FAULTY CABLE ABOVE. IT WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE. THIS CABLE WORKS AS EXPECTED, AS THE ABOVE CABLE FAULT IS A ONE OFF I HAVE UPDATED THE FEEDBACK TO REFLECT THE FIRST CLASS PRODUCTS THAT ANKER MANUFACTURE. I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. )

I don't have any devices that use a USB-C cable, but recently I needed one to test a Nexus 6P and as always with Anker cables, I didn't need to worry about overheating or burning down the house. After testing with charging and data transfer it worked as expected. More importantly, no devices were harmed. I really like Anker's PowerLine series (I have several PowerLine cables), but I am looking forward to PowerLine+ USB-C when I eventually need them.Disclaimer: I was supplied a sample for testing and evaluation, and I promised that my review is fair and honest.

23.8.2016

The cable is great. The material feel and flexibility of the cable is good. The smooth molded ends have a good feel and handle well, but are just stiff enough to give the connectors a durable finish. The cable comes with a Velcro cable wrap to help keep it coiled should you want to use it. If not, just remove it. The cable is capable of carrying the full amperage necessary to fast charge my Nexus 5X and I am able to take advantage of the USB 3.0 connection speed when transferring files between my phone and laptop and any other USB-C devices that I own.
