I've had to totally rewrite my review from a 1 star review to a 5 star review, because believe it or not, I was sent a fake cable by the Amazon seller "NiceVisionLondon" (do not purchase from this seller!).Following my previous review, I was contacted by Belkin who told me my cable was very likely to be a fake. I didn't personally think anyone would bother to fake a £14 cable, but Belkin sent me a free replacement so I could compare the two. The fake is extremely good quality, but the cable itself was reported as "not Apple certified" by the iPhone whenever I plugged it in and the cable didn't work on USB 3 ports at all.How to check if you've got a fake cable:1. There are (very)minor packaging differences on the boxes, which include a couple of typos. eg the box has a message to Australian users at the bottom right of the back of the box in fine print, but on the fake box all the letter t's are missing from this particular sentence, but these are present on the real box I got sent from Belkin. On the cable itself, the fattest part of the connector at the lightning end is about 2mm longer on the real cable than on the fake one. I have posted a comparison photo as a "customer photo" for this product.2. Another way to tell if the cable is real is to try and use it to charge your phone on an iOS 7 device (it must be iOS 7, not iOS 6!). For most fake cables, this will immediately cause an on-screen message saying that the device is "not Apple certified and may not work reliably with your iPhone". If this message appears, the cable is fake and not a proper Belkin cable. The real Belkin cable works fine and doesn't have any of the problems. Belkin were very helpful with this issue. To avoid the problems I had, I would advice you only purchase from Belkin approved sellers such as Amazon direct (not marketplace sellers) to avoid any risk of buying a fake. However one or two marketplace sellers such as BESTBUYIT are actually approved Belkin resellers according to Belkin.Be aware though the connector on the Belkin cable is slightly fatter than an Apple cable, so may not fit through all bumpers/cases.

Judging by other reviews, it seems like there's a certain amount of luck involved. I personally would only buy direct from Amazon, it seems like buying from other sellers is a bit of a lottery. That said, I have had excellent service from my cable. I bought it in November 2013, and it's been used constantly - generally at least once per day - including being wound up to travel, frequently used with the iPad at strange angles, etc. It's been my main and most used cable for all that time, and has lasted considerably better than either the original Apple cable or the replacement I was given when that one failed during its first year, or any other cables (and longer ones in particular)that I've purchased.Recently the wire started to come away from the casing at the iPad end, but it still worked, and was easily fixed with some insulation tape. Just this evening, it appears to finally have given out, and will no longer charge my iPad. Fortunately I do have alternates, but they're all short ones - the longer wires I've used from several sources have all been unreliable/have stopped talking to/charging the iPad sooner or later, including the Amazon basics black wire. This is the most reliable long cable I've had for my iPad, it's given me over two years of excellent service, and a month or so of being usable despite having visible wear and tear. I bought it on an Amazon deal, so it cost me £15; by contrast, the wires I had from Apple which retail at something over £20 as far as I know, and are only 1m long, all stopped working or downright fell apart within 18 months at the outside. In short, no contest, and this cable having finally failed after almost 2 1/2 years of constant use, I full intend to purchase another directly from Amazon.Edit: Okay, almost by accident I discovered that it was the USB socket (which I've had for a much shorter time) that failed. Don't know why, literally stopped working in the middle of me using it. So despite being old and overused and held together with insulation tape, this cable officially still works. Kudos.

** WARNING ** It is suspected that some of the cables listed here by third party resellers are not genuine belkin cables and do not work properly with iOS 7; please be aware when ordering, or only buy cables sold by amazon.co.uk, not marketplace sellers ** WARNING **UPDATE: I have had this cable for over two years now (since April 2013, it's now Jan 2016). It is still going strong and not showing any signs of wear. I go through a lot of cables (I'm an iOS developer) and most cables I've tried have failed sooner than this - the genuine Apple ones never last me over a year! So this one is highly recommended!Just bought one of these as an additional cable, did a thorough comparison with the Apple cable that came with my iPhone 5 - here's the key points:* This cable comes in black - great if you want the cable to match your black iphone, or for use with an in-car mount where the white cables tend to reflect into the windscreen* Cost is lower than the Apple cable* The 1.2m cable is about 19cm longer than the standard Apple cable* Build quality seems as good* The cable on the Belkin cable is slightly thicker - perhaps this might mean it's more robust* The USB connector rear part is longer than the Apple one, making it easier to pull out* The lightning connector surround is longer and wider than the Apple one. The width might cause an issue if you have a case that is tight on space around the connector - although it was fine with my poetic bumper (

This 3m Belkin Lightning to USB Charge and Sync cable is definitely a great buy and heres why:-The extra length that having a 3m cable gives you allows one to reach those awkward power sockets and charge a phone whilst using it at preferred couch/sofa or bed. I personally have this plugged into the power socket next to my bed and it allows me to use my iPhone whilst charging it pretty much from any position I want to be, I don't have to sit on the edge.-The sturdy cable and port allows ensures that you will not rip the chord when removing it from your phone, nor does it knot easily.-This product comes in a variety of basic colours, however I did chose to buy the cable in white as I was using it as a replacement for my Apple charger.I was happily converted to this product and will probably buy more in the future as I now know I can trust Belkin to charge my phone safely and live up to frequent use.As I already mentioned I will likely purchase this product or similar again in the future if I need a new iPhone charger, since it is way more sturdy than the original Apple charger that you get given in the box, yet it still comes in white and gives you more freedom to move around. However, I would recommend taking a moment to really think about the length of cable that you need as I could imagine using this in situations such as car charging would make trying to keep the cable tidy a problem.

If you travel often, you'll recognise the frustration of finding the plug sockets in your hotel room are nowhere near your bed. This extra-long 3 metre Lightning cable eliminates that problem, greatly extending the reach of your charger.I use my iPhone as an alarm, and also enjoy browsing social media and streaming TV while I drift off to sleep. However, when staying away from home this isn't necessarily easy. In a typical hotel room, a short Lightning cable will tether me to a distant wall socket. At worst, this means leaping out of bed when the alarm goes off, tripping over as I cross the room in a bleary state, and struggling to disable the alarm without disturbing fellow guests! Not exactly a good start to the day. This Belkin cable is three metres in length, over twice as long as the standard Lightning cable from Apple. This means I have a much greater radius in which I can use my phone while simultaneously charging its battery. The perfect traveller's companion!I have owned this cable for a year and a half. Although the Lightning end is starting to bend and flex more than I would like, it still reliably charges my phone night after night. This is not a cheap accessory, but then you pay for what you get. I suspect cheaper cables of this length would show far more wear after this length of time. This cable is a worthwhile investment to complement your Apple device.

These cables have to meet tough usage criteria with me. - I've had many different lightning cables, destroyed many also. I travel a lot and use them in cars, office, train, plane, at home they get used by the kids - who tend to yank them, trip-over them etc. I also use them on an array of devices iPhone, iPad Mini, iPad air - so for me a good cable has to work in an everything - Apple power adaptor; in a car socket; in a PC socket and be able to charge all types of Apple device in these different settings. (I've bought cables that charge iPhones but not iPads, work OK in the car, but not in an Apple power adaptor. These Belkin cables are the toughest construction I've come across, they work in all our devices, they work in all types of charger we own. I've had a number of cheaper 2M and 3M cables that don't meet the challenge, or don't last the harshness of the family lifestyle. I've never managed to damage a Belkin lead. They are much more robust than the original Apple items, or any of the many alternatives I've tried. For me the price is good given that the cheaper (and more expensive) items I've tried simply don't last.

As the saying goes....you get what you pay for! I have an iphone 5 and the charger cable that came with my phone had lasted less than 10 months, which is extremly poor going. Knowing that other cheaper cables, however colourful they may be, are likely to last even less time, given my family's experience of this, I ordered this charger, for a lot more money may I add. However, as soon as I opened the packet I knew it was worth every penny. When you put the cables side by side (which there should be a picture of in my opinion!) the Belkin cable is far more substantial, from the thinkness of the wire to the chunky adaptor piece that goes into the phone. This cable will not bend and break like Apple's,and it was ultra long too, 3m! I suppose the length could put some people off as it's not 'travel' size. My phone was fully charged within 40 minutes which is amazing as I was beginning to think my iphone was turning into a landline! In all of my life I have never been the slightest bit interested in such items, but this product is superior!

Arrived promptly and in the official Belkin packaging.I always leave these cables for at least a month before I write my review so that they have had a proper road test before I tell people what I think - and so far I am loving this little cable.I have an iphone 5 and a week ago I upgraded to IOS 8, the cable charges absolutely fine, no compatibility issues at all.I use the cable for my external battery (so i never get cut short with a dead phone battery on the go), so it is folded into the pocket of the battery carry case. The cable is sturdy and well made, I am folding it into the pocket and pulling it out often to connect the battery to the phone, with no signs of stress or complaint from the cable. The connections are still secure and snug. The speed of charging is by far the fastest out of all my other non branded cables. You diffidently pay a bit more for the quality then some other cables, but even if you do find a non branded cable that is IOS compatible then it probably wont have the speed - and probably not the longevity.

I have tried many many different charging cables in the past, ranging from Apple's own brand, the very cheap, and also Amazon Basic's. The first two were definitely not reliable. Cheaper ones tend to not even be compatible or break after a couple of days. The Apple ones are quite thin and never long enough for what I need them for. The amazon basics are definitely good quality, still not quite long enough, and one of mine did break eventually after a few months. This has been the first cable I have bought which has lasted and lasted, and is actually long enough for what I need. It works perfectly every time, and have had no issues with it whatsoever. The only issue I have with this, similar to the amazon basics cable, is that the end of it is quite chunky, which makes it more durable. But also means that it might not fit into some phone cases where the gap for the charger is quite small.Definitely worth spending the extra money for as it really does last. and just make sure it fits with the phone case you are using.

I bought this cable, not online but from a major supermarket retailer, it has out lasted 6, yes 6 other genuine apple cables, ( that all broke where the cable joined the lightening socket.) It's working fine on ipad with retina and iPad Air, also works perfectly on iPhone, 5, 5s, 5c. I was shocked to see and read some of the other reviews, and perhaps wonder if they were sold counterfeit copies, there are 1000's about, thats why I went personally to a major supermarket to buy off he shelf. This cable is twice as thick as the eom supplied and has shown no sign of breaking in the usual spot. My only niggle is the lightening plug is a little larger so sometimes i need to remove my iPhone from its case as the socket is too thick and the plug wont push in properly, but thats the case not the cable at fault.

I ordered the 15cm short lead directly from Amazon. Mainly as some reviewers have stated that theirs from 3rd parties did not support IOS7.Mine arrived in a tiny correctly branded box and I can confirm it is compatible with IOS 7 on the new Retina iPad mini. The shorter length lead is really short as stated and requires the iPad/Iphone to be basically on top of the charger. As I intend to use this as a travel lead I am happy with this arrangement, hoping that the lack of constantly coiling up the lead will help keep the lead in perfect condition as tight coiling can stress even apple leads at the ends.To recap excellent quality short lead that IS compatible with IOS7 on new iPad mini.Noted thatBelkin are listed on the apple site and are a recommended supplier of accessories.

Updated Sept 22/14 - Bought 3 of these this year - all three are solid, work perfectly with iPad and iPhone - got one for home, one at work and one to connect iPhone up to USB in the car for music & charging - I've had no problems with any of them - recommended.First view quality is as good as the apple product.. maybe slightly better in that the 'small end' connector is a little larger and easier to grasp than the apple cable. Charges both iPhone 5s and iPad 5 ..so all good.. also (coming clean re my OCD tendencies here ;-) ... it's black.. so matches everything else on the desk.. rather than having this odd white cable amongst all my lovely 'Ninja' black gadgets... did I mention..I'm an office Ninja...

This is an excellent alternative to Apple's original lightning cable. It's built more sturdily than the original - the cable is thicker and the plug boot is more substantial - looks like it can take a beating. As a bonus this fits perfectly into the recess of the new Apple iPhone 5/5S Leather Case - it actually looks like it was designed for it. The shape and size of the lightning socket cut out in the leather case is almost identical to the shape of the plug's base; a perfect fit... (the original Apple lightning connector leaves a gap ranging from 1-2mm around the perimeter - not that this matters though).Rest assured, this is a great cable that looks like it'll last a substantial period of time.

The thing to remember is that lightning cables include a small chip to enable you to use them either way up. This is part of the reason they cost so much, even when they're not made by Apple. Bearing this chip in mind, it should be obvious why you should avoid cheaper, unlicensed cables. The only problem with the Belkin cable is the connector itself is quite large. It is, for instance, too large to use with an iPhone 5S and the new official leather cases. Not to worry, though - you can quite safely trim a little of the black plastic off in order to get a nice fit. It doesn't damage the cable, connector or anything else, but be careful when trimming the plastic anyway.

The original lightning cable with my iPhone 5 actually overheated and distorted so I decided to buy a CHEAP replacement. BIG MISTAKE! That one also overheated and when i inspected it I do wonder how it never caught fire. This cable wasn't the cheapest, but going by the sheer reliability of Belkin products I've bought previously and the fact it was cheaper than the Apple equivalent I decided to go for it. The cable is sturdy, the connector feels well built plus it's longer than the original so more useful for accessing those far away USB ports or mains plugs. Well worth the extra money and proof that sometimes you get what you pay for.
