*** Update ***After reaching out to the Anker Support Team, they were quick to diagnose I had a faulty unit (see previous review below), and offered to send a replacement under their 18-month warranty. A few days later it arrived in a flat-brown Amazon box and I was eager to try it out!Using the exact same setup as before (workstation/memory cards/raspbian image) the initial results looked very promising. The "busts" of speed from the previous unit, was replaced with a fast and consistent writing speed across all three cards, and completed the task quicker than expected. So far so good!I decided to try it out over the whole weekend, using various SD/MicroSD cards around the house, and they performed exactly as expected. I was able to transfer music to a 16GB MicroSD card that I use in the car, whilst also transferring pictures from my DSLR's full-size SDHC card at the same time, with no perceivable drop in performance. It seems I was unlucky with a faulty unit at first, but Anker Support's quick response and the performance of this tiny device, easily demonstrates why this product deserves all of the 5* reviews it has*** Previous Review ***After 4 years of flawless service my Transcend USB 2.0 SD Card reader finally stopped working in Jan '18. After browsing around the "Best Sellers" list, I noticed this product priced around the same as Transcend's modern USB 3.0 equivalent, and decided to take a gamble and try a different-but-popular brand. I only use SD/MicroSD cards and was looking for something compact, so I was torn between purchasing this or the updated version (ASIN: B00PBXPM68), but ultimately decided on this as I was worried about the longevity of the updated versions 0.4ft cable after multiple uses.I had high expectations from my first Anker product, the raving customer reviews left the impression that Anker products "just work", and I was looking forward to seeing improved results now that I'd finally make use of the USB 3.0 ports on my workstation. Initially the results were very positive, flashing the latest version of Raspbian Lite to my three 32GB Samsung Evo+'s was noticeably faster than my previous reader, although writing happened in "bursts" of speed rather than a consistent average (write-caching was already disabled). With the release a Raspbian Lite update at the end of April, it was time to get the Anker card reader back out of it's box (where it had been safely stored), and re-flash all of my MicroSD cards.Sadly; this is where the problems started. I removed all of the MicroSD cards from the various Pi's, inserted one directly into the card reader, and plugged it into the back of my workstation as before. I waited for the readers two icons (SD and MicroSD show as two separate drives) to appear and.... nothing. I tried another USB port. Nothing. I tried my laptop's USB port. Nothing. After trying a combination of different computers/laptops and various SD/MicroSD cards, Windows failed to detect the card reader at all, with it showing no signs of life either.Perhaps I just received a faulty card reader that just happened to "work" when it was first plugged in, but considering my usage is extremely light (Raspbian images are only released every few months), I'm disappointed at the devices reliability (and yes, I didn't even use it long enough to remove the protective-wrap on the front)*** Note: my order was sold by AnkerDirect and fulfilled by Amazon (experience from other supplier products may differ)

I can only test this up to USB 2.0 speeds due to my old laptop, but, when benchmarking a pretty fast PNY 128GB Class 10 U1 MicroSD card, it hits the USB 2.0 speed limit pretty easily. This is still way faster than my laptop's built-in card reader, which slows right down with 128GB size cards. If you have USB 3.0 or higher, check other reviews, as I can't judge its true speed with my hardware. My main use for this will be transferring 20mbps HD dash cam footage from previously mentioned 128GB (FAT32) MicroSD card to my laptop for review and editing. It also works with my Nexus 5 Android smartphone (running KitKat 4.4.4) using a USB-OTG cable and Chainfire's StickMount (v3.40) app.Since my phone does not have a MicroSD card slot, this allows me to review footage when out and about. It also allows me to transfer footage from my main 128GB card to my spare 16GB MicroSD card (in SD adapter). I can transfer footage directly from one card to the other, so, even if my phone memory is completely full, I can still move files between cards. This also saves on write cycles for my phones built-in flash memory (which is much more significant when moving larger files). It seems to consume very little battery power when in use, which is another bonus when using it in this way. The packaging box doubles up as a nice storage box for this device, my OTG cable and my memory cards, which can then all be thrown into a storage compartment in my car, without any of it getting lost. The only thing you need to remember is to insert/remove cards when the device is unplugged from anything else, then connect to your PC/phone/tablet. If you need to swap cards again, unmount (StickMount) or 'Safely remove' (Windows), unplug from USB port, then swap cards, otherwise, you might run into problems. You also need to remember to unlock any card or MicroSD adapter you use, otherwise, (in my case anyway) you might not even be able to read the contents of your card. The only other thing is, I find it difficult to remove from my laptop's USB port, possibly due to its shape. This can be cured by using a short USB extension cable or buying the newer version of this product, which already has a cable on it.

I've recently ordered a second one of these for my daughter after having mine for over 2yrs now. It's had a lot of use over the 2yrs and never had an issue, its still going strong.I'm using it on a basic i3 Windows 10 desktop, my daughter on an old Windows 7 laptop. In both cases it works well. It's mainly used to transfer photos & videos, from an SD card originally from either an SLR camera, a digital camera or & a digital camcorder. I'd say it's used upto 4x a month in my case. Now all those techy type folk will reel off a load of numbers to do with speeds and this may not meet todays lightening speeds that they want but in reality it is plenty quick enough for us using it for home.I can transfer 600+ photos & 30-40 short video clips onto my pc in less time than it takes me to make a quick brew.I have on a few occasions transferred from the pc onto the card I'd say with similar speeds & results, but as I say that isn't often.I've never had any problems with it connecting, I've never had to remove it and re insert it, its always read first time no issues. For the price I paid I'm happy enough with it for my needs, if its one for professional use and they are transferring all day every day then I'd expect those people will pay more for something a little more adequate.Note: Just take care when removing it don't just yank it, take it out carefully but really you should do that naturally with anything like this, it's a good snug fit so doesn't just slide out, but it's not so tight you have to wriggle it, I'd say it's just right. Don't expect it to last if you are heavy handed and not careful.I think with things like this and a lot of electronics from little card readers to laptops to tvs.... Sometimes it's not that a product or design is bad per se, just its luck of the draw and you can just end up with a duff one, just the way it is sometimes, shouldnt be I know, but just is.... In my case this has been a great buy, I'd have been happy for 1 years use in this price range, I've exceeded that now, so even if it broke tomorrow, this review would still stand.

Everyone who uses memory cards should keep an adapter handily available, this will be my go to of choice. It's a decent size that can just be thrown into a cavity somewhere to be extracted when needed, my only issue with the exterior is the glossy shine applied to the plastic casing. It shows fingerprints, smudges etcUsage however is a breeze, as with most USB devices now a simple plug 'n play approach is adopted so it will work on any PC without the need for additional software. The killer feature here is that it mounts itself as 2 drives meaning that you can use it with 2 cards at the same time... or as I have done, transferring data from one MMC to the other without the hassle of copying to the PC from one card, then change the cards over, and copy again. Thus meaning it takes half the time to do a full SD transfer.I'm not a banchmarking geek, but what I can say is that the transfers I have done have been fast and notably much better than my USB 2.0 readers I've previously used. I've had no degradation in data or corrupt files, even when doing the card-to-card transfer which was nice. There are plenty of other card readers available; but for the price, size, USB 3.0 connectivity and dual slot reading capabilities I think it would be very hard to find something that comes close.I'm really impressed and apart from the shiny finish this really is going to come in use... especially when I buy a larger SD card and want to migrate my data from my old card to it. There is maybe one other improvement I would suggest and this might be to make it 5mm thicker and seat the USB plug higher up, but make it retractable to both protect the plug and also reduce the overall size of the device.I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation, and I promised that my review is fair and honest

This worked really well, up to the point where i managed to put an SD card in upside down and everything became write protected (regardless of the card used or the position of the write protection switch). Usually I'm pretty careful and SD cards are shaped so that they're not supposed to be able to go in the wrong way round, so I don't know if Anker's mechanism is just bad or if I somehow managed to push harder than i thought. Either way, I've bought another and I'll just be super careful this time around.EDIT:I am re-reviewing this as Anker kindly sent me a free replacement, without requiring a return, following my original 3* review above. They did not ask anything in return, which is what has moved me to improve the rating. Again, they did not ask me to edit or improve this review, I am doing it to address issues I raised previously. In response to the issues I was having, I can confirm that the new readers (the free replacement and the replacement i bought) both function well and they do have the cut-out needed to stop SD cards being inserted upside down - this is present on the broken one but had failed at one side. It seems most likely that I did indeed just push too hard inserting the card. The device speed is fast enough - but I can't comment on its limits as I haven't measured them nor do i have another device to compare against. For the price, I would definitely recommend this product. It worked fantastically for about 3 months, and when it broke I not only chose to replace it myself with the same but Anker kindly replaced the broken one for free afterwards too (despite my own suggestion that it was my fault). The product comes with an 18 month warranty and I know they would be true to their word should you need it. I will be buying Anker products again!

Anker normally make great products so I was dismayed to find that this product couldn't read my 128gb or 200gb sandisk micro sd card, instead reporting that it needs to be formatted before use. Same result in other usb ports and on another laptop. Returned for refund. Now on the look out for another reliable usb 3.0 micro sd card reader .... Anker, you are normally my go to provider for things like this, I've been let down..... your battery packs are still the best though ... your usb chargers aren't too bad either ... but this was defo a dissappointment..... i needed a usb 3 micro sd card reader fast :(Additional: Just wanted to add that Anker reached out to me and said that I mostly likely got a defective unit and offered to send me the "Anker [Upgraded Version]USB 3.0 4-Slot Card Reader with Built-in 0.4ft Cable for SDXC, SDHC, SD, CF, High-Speed CF (UDMA), MS, Micro SDXC, Micro SDHC, Micro SD Cards [Support UHS-I Cards]" at no cost. I graciously accepted and can confirm that the new upgraded Anker card reader works fine with my Sandisk 128gb micro sd card.. With this in mind, I've changed my rating from 1 star to 5 stars, although if you're reading this, I'd really recommend that you get the upgraded model which has a bit of a cable instead because that's the model plus Ankers sterling service that I'm basing the new 5 stars on. If any of you have issues with Anker products, I'd recommend that you reach out to them as I've found that their customer service is head and shoulders above anyone else .....

I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation in exchange for a fair and honest review.I've been using the device for a few days now and really struggle to find any noteworthy negatives to mention. The packaging, as usual for Anker, was robust yet compact and the reader was secured nicely inside. The device itself also feels like it will last - I've had many micro SD adapters over the years that have eventually crumbled does to constantly being plugged/unplugged, this doesn't feel like it will suffer the same fate though the usual problem of the plug itself protruding does remain vulnerable. It is also that little bit bigger than your normal micro SD card reader (obviously due to full size SD compatability)so shouldn't get lost down the side of the couch either yet would take up no room in any pocket or laptop bag.In terms of usage it's also hard to find fault, using the device is simple, it's Plug 'n' Play afterall. Speeds are excellent and with USB 3.0 you really are bound by the speed of the cards you're using rather than the reader or port. Then there's the fact that it can read/write to two cards simultaneously (1 micro, 1 standard), whether that saves you USB ports or time and hassle from swapping it really does come in handy. This has already replaced a handful of SD card readers and adapters for meI think for the price, you'll currently be hard pressed to find a faster, more functional and more robust multi-card reader. Every bit worth the 5* rating.

UPDATED EDIT: After the review and messaging them. Their awesome support team were lovely and quick response time allowed me to resolve the issue. They said my original one was a defect so they offered a free upgraded anker which I can’t conplain for as well as not needing to return the previous one. I’ve yet to test it however as I have no new pictures. But if I don’t add another update. Just assume it’s all good. Thank you again anker.__________________________I just got my PC built this week so I doubt my USB 3.0 drives are faulty as everything else is working. However, this SD reader is randomly disconnecting and reconnecting. I just took loads of pictures and its all stored on my SD card, however, I tried to put them on my PC just now and just a simple 500 pictures shouldn't take an hour. It randomly also just stays at 0 bytes for minutes then spikes to 50mbs a second just to drop back down to 0 bytes? Is there an error going on, am I meant to install a driver update or anything or have I got a faulty product. Need some response whether I need a replacement. Disappointed as this will be my first return ever on amazon :'(_________________I won’t give 5 stars just as this product failed me however the support team is 10/10

It's small, neat, looks good and does what it says on the packet !The Anker USB 3 card reader plugs into a USB 3.0 port (or 2.0, but you'll only get USB 2 speeds) and provides one micro SD card slot and one SD card slot (also suitable for SD varients such as SDHC). It's around the size of a man's thumb so isn't too big to take with you wherever you take your laptop/tablet, or it can be left inserted into a USB hub or port on a desktop PC, though, depending on the design of the machine, it may partially block the adjacent socket - using an Anker 4 port hub with the reader in the right most slot leaves 3 free ports; using a Belkin equivalent blocks the adjacent port so leaves only 2 availableports.Data transfer is noticably much faster than with USB 2 (I don't have reliable data rate measuring tools to give figures), loading 300 raw files (24MBish) in less than a minute, verses over 5 on USB 2.The device works well, looks smart in a piano-black finish (far smarter than the price suggests) and is low cost for the perceived quality. Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 pick it up quickly - it adds two drives in Windows (File) Explorer. I haven't tried it with other operating systems.5 Stars.

I purchased this card reader mainly for my TF card which I use in my dashcam in my car (instead of taking the actual dashcam to and from the car, this would make life a little bit easier), although the extra SD slot is an additional benefit for me! However, when the product arrived the USB part of the reader looked slightly bent - I'm not sure whether this was a fault with my one or if this is how it was designed. Nonetheless, I've used the product on multiple occasions and there is no sign of any failure whatsoever. The packaging of this product is of the usual Anker style - brilliant. It's easy to open and completely stress free (no more boxes being ripped open!).The reader has no problems being used with both Windows and Mac.It's also so easy to use, put the SD card in the slot, plug the USB into the computer and the SD file appears almost immediately. There is a little light which appears on the reader whenever it is plugged in which is a nice touch.I am very impressed with this high quality reader from Anker, for the price. I definitely recommend this product. Like all Anker products, it's brilliant!

Picture this, you have a mobile phone which won't/can't communicate with your pc. How to get your movie/music/ebook files into the phone storage?I had bought a 128Gb micro sd card (class 10). Upon installing it in the adaptor, then plugging the adaptor into a sd to usb adaptor, then plugging that into a usb3 port. I immediately faced problems. I had used the same combination with smaller capacity micro sd cards (16/32) Gb sucessfully so I Knew it worked. When I used the large micro sd card it seemed to bring my pc to it's knees. Everything slowed down, wasn't operating well.Anyway to cut a long story short, when I inserted the micro sd card into theAnker card reader than into a usb3 port it was recognised immediately.Following that transferring files to 'card' proceeded much better than I had expected, almost HDD speeds!!So it solved my problem in a very speedy and simple way.Card removed, then inserted into phone. A veritable cornucopia of media files awaiting my command!!I can not comment on the usage with other card types, but for me it solved a specific problem in an excellent manner

I have a mac book pro 13.3 with 256 of internal flash so I am always using micro SD cards and standard SD card from my cannon camera so i bought this on the recommendations from other reviews - This product is absolutely fantastic it can read and write between the two cards so transfer is very fast on USB 3.0 - it powers itself so no software needed which is ideal in my job as I may be taking images from a clients PC and then on to my Mac - It fits really snug into the USB no wobbles - Although it is bigger than the micro Sandisk USB you can fit in this is excellent especially if you are a Mac user, the reason for this is you do not forget to eject it (the Mac gives you a "did not eject properly" waring if it runs out of power - I am always forgetting to charge up in time!)and as a portable device with it being just a little bit larger than the average device you would use - you do not loose site of it, the amount of times I have searched for my micro memory or usb stick in my jeans or on the dinning room table or just about anywhere in the house where I have put it down

This is a perfect product to those on a Desktop, or Laptop who do not have the functionality of a SD card (+ MicroSD card) slot. The product came in a small, yet well packaged box containing warranty information from Anker (Of whom has fantastic customer service from previous experience). As for the device itself, it is compact and well made. Once the SD card is in, it is fast to read the files. My only downside I can see for this product is that if inserting in a normal computer, due to the way the USB port is connected to the device, it means that the SD cards are inserted from underneath. This makes it difficult if you would like to leave the device permanently in the computer as you will likely have to take it out to insert the SD card correctly. However, i'm sure this won't be a problem on laptops. This is only a minor personal flaw that I find irritating. That said, my primary reason for choosing this product is due to Anker's customer service, in case there is any problem that develops with it, I can ensure that Anker will help me out.

It worked for few times (I rarely use it, I don't think I used it 10 times since I bought it) and then it stopped reading the card. Once plugged in, the PC was taking a very long time to read the drive (the window is stuck while trying to do that). Most of the time it does not succeed, once it did succeed but it showed only part of the card.Going straight in the garbage bin. Too cheap to make it worth the hassle to return it.Update 23 June 2016: I had a pleasant surprise. Shortly after posting my review I was contacted by Anker and they offered to send me a replacement without any hassle on my side. This shows confidence in their product and their strong belief that it's just a singular fault and not a design issue. On the other hand it also shows that their image is important for them. Due to this I will increase my rating to 5 stars as I was very happy with the product while it worked. I will update this review further after I get the replacement and spend some time with it.

What can I say about this little device and more importantly about Anker. Firstly this device is a godsend, no problems whatsoever, it reads my camera cards copies them to the computer in no time. I purchased this last year and it did stop working but I did use the daily for the year. I emailed Anker as it was still in warranty and they gave me some advice but that didn't work so they replaced it for me and I received it in a couple of days. This now brings me to my second point Anker. Now I am not sure how big or small this this company is but they are absolutely brilliant. They deserve every recognition they can get. They things they sell are built to last. The prices are amazing unlike some companies that charge way more than they should. Their staff are some of the most friendly I have ever come across and are genuinely happy to help you and they do value you. Anker is a company that you can feel safe buying from and I will definitely be buying more of there products.
