My 11 year old Core 2 Duo E8400 based system has been running quite loud for a while now. A recent spate of hot weather only made the irritating whine of the CPU fan even more noticeable. Things seem to have gotten worse slowly over the years and I've since found out that the thermal paste that is used as a thermal transfer medium between the cooler and CPU degrades over time, thus reducing the efficiency of the cooler. I had noticed that even mundane tasks would have the CPU cooler fan spin up to over 2,000 rpm on the Intel stock cooler that came with the CPU.So, I purchased some expensive thermal paste and decided to remove the cooler and clean everything and reapply new thermal paste. When I removed the cooler, I was shocked as there was literally no paste at all! The surface of the coolers cold plate that makes contact with the CPU was shiny and smooth, no hint of paste at all! Similarly, the CPU was almost spotless. Evidentially, over the 11 years of almost daily use, the thermal paste that was pre-applied on the Intel stock CPU cooler had crumbled to dust. No wonder my CPU cooler fan was going mad.I reapplied a dab of new thermal paste onto the cooler as this was easier to do and then set about trying to remount said cooler. One thing I've learned, is that used Intel coolers don't remount that well. In two such cases I've experienced, the push pins have had one of the two splayed pins break off. Anyway, I needed a cheap replacement. I didn't want to spend any real money on something that was only going to be needed for perhaps another month or so. I am planning to gut this machine and replace the internals with an all new system. In the meantime, I still need this machine so did a quick search on Amazon and found a really inexpensive cooler from AKASA compatible with my ancient socket 775 CPU.This cooler came with thermal paste pre-applied, so no fiddling or expensive thermal paste required. After cleaning off the CPU once more, I mounted this cooler flawlessly, all four push pins clicking firmly into place. Well ... what a difference! At idle, my CPU now runs at just 29C and ripping a DVD while listening to an audio book saw peak temps at 41C. This is in contrast with the 90C I had before and idle temps of 42!At under £7 this AKASA cooler cannot be beat. Heck! I spent more on a 8 gramme tube of thermal paste for my old cooler! The value for money for this thing is incredible. Yes, it's a basic cooler, but it does its job and does it quietly and effectively, so why spend more?Suffice it to say, I am impressed with this cooler from AKASA. The old adage "You pay for what you get." isn't always an absolute. This inexpensive product from AKASA has saved my bacon. Well done to AKASA for producing this. It works well, is quiet and at an unbeatable price. The bottom line; Don't spend more on a cooler unless you have to.

Bought as a replacement for the original fan in our 6+ year old Intel Tower system. The item is really cheap, compared to other Heatsink units but deserves the good performance reviews. It also arrived on time, well packaged. The only downside I found is that due to the age of the PC casing and fittings, the Intel Easy Connectors did not connect to the older spring and screw connection system. Also, the new connecting feet were larger, meaning that a bit of DIY was needed. As I am a novice, and did not fancy dismantling the whole thing to remove the screw connectors in the motherboard, I removed the plastic connectors (easy to do with a pair of wire cutters, or, in my case a pair of pet nail clippers)and then used wire cutters to trim the metal feet on one of the corners.Once cut to size, the unit was easy to connect and the original screw and springs have been reused to secure into place. The adhesive is effective and once reassembled, the Tower is now working perfectly. The fan is quiet and effective. Very happy with this purchase!

I always make sure that my computer system is absolutely silent by using only SSDs, BeQuiet power supply (the cheapest one is the most silent, btw) and disconnecting system fans (if there are any, usually I buy cases without system fans) but CPU fan is, unfortunately, not something you can disconnect as the risk of overheating the processor within 5 minutes is about 100%, unless your ambient temperature is 25 degrees below zero Centigrade. So, this means I have to select carefully the quietest CPU fan. Not surprisingly (as the cheaper is usually better and the best is that which is free), it turns out that this Akasa cpu fan is much much better than the alternative more expensive ones as far as the noise is concerned.Normally it is completely silent (after selecting "Silent" in BIOS of course) and even under heavy CPU load (running parallel computations for solving quantum mechanics problems) it remains practically unnoticeable. So, the moral of the story: do not buy expensive things without trying the cheapest (or free) ones first.

I only ever write reviews if something really impresses me.- Installation took <5 mins, for context I have NO idea about computers, and am pretty scared when opening one up!- Taking out my old installed, default fan was hassle that took about 20 mins, and was needlessly complicated- Simple, but firm, 'click' into place attachmentNow, I have a question that I hope someone can answer: My FPS playing Flight Simulator (main use for my PC) went from average 10 fps to 25. It feels like a BRAND NEW GAME. This happened right after instillation, so could the CPU cooling affect performance like this? For so little money this thing has done wonders. I have to check if its actually on - it's so quiet!

Always loved Akasa fans. The first PC builds I did used Akasa amber fans and they've been some of my favourite and a solid cooling solution for me ever since.Putting together a budget NAS build I wanted a cheap but reliable and quality CPU cooler. Initially looking at Arctic offerings also on Amazon, I wasn't particularly happy with what was on offer. As soon as I came across this though I was sold immediately. The cooler's been performing excellently in the on 24/7 NAS. I even used the pre-applied thermal paste for the first time ever and it's not disappointed. It's quiet at idle and under load PWM spins the fan up to tackle the increased temp and it doesn't get too much louder.

Great compact fan, low noise and profile. The only issue was the useless push pin mounting system. After about half an hour at fiddling to try and get the things to lock I ended up cutting them off completely and using good old spring loaded bolts to screw the heatsink down securely. The pins were too thick to fit into the pre cut holes and were not long enough to reach down far enough to get a grip when they were pushed as far as they could go.Actual cooler works like a dream now, just let down by the terrible plastic fixing pins.

CPU Cooling block and fan arrived in plenty of time and well packaged including protection for delicate push pins. Product works excelent as a replacement for a standard computer CPU cooler (1155) and works very good for a mid range budget (2011) gaming computer (also 1155). Due to the design, this cooling block and fan are a little wider than most 1155 CPU socket coolers meaning an easier workload for the cooler but some boards may suffer lack of space around it but very unlikely. Don't forget to use CPU cooling grease.

Bought this for a build I was doing as I needed something last minute, cheap and not too large - the cooler I intended to use was too wide to fit on the CPU because of the clearance from the rear case fan. This cooler is exactly flush with the socket 115x footprint, so you know it's going to fit. Perfectly good cooling ability for both i5 3570 and i7 3770. I will use this cooler again in future builds as I've already had good service from Akasa. Recommended.

Good basic cooler for one of our house's older systems. It's quiet and keeps a stock 2500k at acceptable temperatures even under full load. Pre applied paste is a nice touch and the mounting was a simple click in process.Deducted 1 Star as the plastic covering the bottom of the box was smashed (outer box undamaged) which meant I had to pick bits of plastic out of the thermal paste before mounting - only took 5 mins though.

Very good ventilating fan, driving off sufficient air to maintain a cool CPU. It does have less decibels than many fans I have used. If 'intelligent settings' are used in the BIOS then the more work the CPU does the hotter it will get and hopefully, the faster the fan will turn. The faster the fan turns the louder it will get that is the nature of the beast. Don't expect it to be whisper quiet cos it aint'!JC

At this price point, you really can't beat this cooler. As expected, the performance isn't comparable to anything from a higher price point, and over clocking new CPUs is completely out of the question, however I managed a 70 degree OC on a q6600 to 2.8 GHz!If you have the money though, I recommend the Hyper 212 Evo/X Over this any day of the week

This is a very good cpu cooler for the money. Only £5.69 as an add-on item. My cpu temps have been reduced by 5 degrees. I installed it on a LGA 1150 platform so I can confirm that it is compatible. If you are thinking of a replacement cooler for Intel cpu’s then I highly reccomend this!

I can't say anything about the heatsink. I only got this for the fan to replace the rather whiny one that came with my AMD Wraith Spire cooler. It's much quieter and moves plenty enough air for the Spire's heatsink to work effectively.

My CPU runs at 100% usage most of the time (converting our DVD library and drone vids to HEVC). Stock cooler CPU was at 65C , then down to 55C after cleaning heatsink and putting new paste on. Now 30C with this cooler. Amazing value.

Easy to fit. Almost twice the depth of the one it replaced, so check you have space. Works like a charm, quiet, cool. Average RPM have dropped from around 1200-1250 to 700-750. Which is brilliant. Cheap and very cheerful.
