Having USB 3 on my desktop I thought my new shiny external USB drive would benefit if my laptop also had USB 3. How wrong I was to buy this piece of rubbish. It has a serious design flaw and does not meet the USB 3 specification for current draw. Using this card trashed a 2 week old USB external harddrive because the card shuts down when it gets too hot and boy does it get hot when you attach devices that consume around the same amount as a standard USB device (ie 500mA). The result is a hard drive that is now not recognised by any operating systems even when its plugged directly into a pc motherboard. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE BUY THIS PIECE OF RUBBISH. I used to think Akasa sold decent enough stuff,

Purchased this item to go with a new WD My Passport Essential SE 1TB USB 3.0 Drive.Decided I would try a speed test.Each test copied 5GB of Audio Files**** Results ****Copying from WD to LaptopUSB 3.0: 3.04 (29-33 mb/sec)USB 2.0: 5.10 (17-20 mb/sec)Copying from Laptop to WDUSB 3.0: 4:04 (21-23 mb/sec)USB 2.0: 6:41 (13-15 mb/sec)So at best I got an additional 15mb/sec. I rang the company who told me they thought it might be an issue with my laptop - a brand new core i5! So... I tried on two others with the same results. A second phone call revealed they only expect the card to run at 60mb/sec - not even close to the "up to x10" advertised on the box.
