From the isle of Mull comes this peated Tobermory (Ledaig was one of the former names of the distillery). The quality and value are enhanced by some key features:* No added colour. The deep amber hue therefore reveals impressive levels of interaction with active Bourbon casks.* Non-chill filtered. Traditional barrier filtration leaves in fatty compounds which may cause clouding when water is added but retains more body and depth of flavour.* High abv of 46.3%, packing intensity and allowing the consumer to dilute to the desired level (or to drink neat). The spirit and casks used in the production are of high quality and the result is a full bodied dram, which oozes class. The texture is viscous. The peat influence is strong (35ppm) and smoky (sooty, only slightly medicinal) but over time and with a little water the underlying layers are revealed. Ginger, vanilla and cinnamon from the casks are prominent, some grassy/hay notes too. Earthiness, sweetness and peppery spiciness are balanced well. The owners, Burn Stewart, are to be commended. Everything about the production process is geared to produce a high quality product with no compromises or concessions to commercialism. The resulting single malt compares very favourably with most of the Islay producers and beats them for value too.

Firstly and most importantly: if you do not like peated whisky, you will not like this. If you don't know if you like peated whisky, buy a bottle of Laphroaig Select and/or Bowmore 12 and see if your palate agrees with the distinctly heavy, deeply savoury and fragrant smokiness before you take the plunge with this dram. Now, assuming we're both lovers of the mossy reek, you'll want to know how this compares with similar bottlings in the price range - so Ardbeg 10, Laphroaig QC, Caol Ila 12, Talisker 10 and the likes. I'm happy to report that it holds its own very well indeed, and slots into its own unique niche. It's more towards the calmer Caol Ila/Bowmore end of the spectrum than the infamous iodine inundation of Laphroaig, while still having a briney tang somewhat reminiscent of Talisker, as another reviewer has noted, albeit without the intriguing spices. There are no medicinal notes to it whatsoever, and it has a pleasant smoothness and rich caramel sweetness that puts it clearly ahead of the younger Bowmore bottlings.Overall, a very fine island malt, worthy of greater recognition, but... Talisker 10 and Laphroaig QC are more to my taste, and they are a couple of quid cheaper. That said, definitely worth a buy if you enjoy the style. It's certainly a dram I'll return to.

Gentle and well-mannered this is an Island malt with all the expected flavours of peat, salt and chemistry but with an unexpected sweetness of and softness of flavour. A welcome greeting to the Islands without the punch of some of its big-brothers from Islay and elsewhere. It almost feels mean not awarding the fifth star but for my taste just a little more edginess would have made it perfect..... However I might revise my opinion on a warm summer evening when a malt would normally not be the choice of glass.... This one just might slide in between the chilled wine and bed-time....

I've managed to let this one slip by me for my entire whisky journey. It's a shame that this one isn't talked about very much, because it's spectacular! I love my Talisker for the briny lightly peated whisky, and I love my Laphroaig for the more aggressive smack in the face. This stuff is like a hybrid of those two! It's a briny, peaty bottle of awesomeness!

Wow. This is one of the nicest peated youngish whiskeys out there. Better than Ardbeg 10 and other rivals. It's just lovely. Non chill filtered, 46.3% natural colour! This has it all. Lovely sherbet flavour is in the forefront of this whisky with a strong but not overpowering punch of peat. Next I am going to try the 18yo. 92/100 if I were to give it a mark.

Ledaig is not available where I live in the US, so I ordered it via Amazon while vacationing in London. It came packaged for uitcase travel better than I could have done myself! The scotch itself is my personal favorite, having sampled many brands while on a previous vacation in Scotland. I like its peaty flavor and its sweet overtones with a little water.

This is the perfect aperitif if you want to be sat next to a fire, smoking a pipe with a sheepdog laying at your ankles. Really rich flavour, very very peaty and smokey, one sip has so many flavours in it that go on forever. Best in very small doses, otherwise you're wasting good whisky, get drunk on Tesco's own! If you don't love whisky, you'll hate this.

Bought this on the strength of their Tobermory whisky which I had enjoyed immensely. This one is a completely different animal. Very heavily smoked which takes a bit of getting used to. Not an unpleasant experience but the lighter Tobermory product is, in my view, more enjoyable. If you love the strong smoky flavours in your whisky this is one to try.

I love this whisky! If you are a fan of Islay whisky you will undoubtedly love this! Not unlike Lagavulin10 yo but not quite as smoky. For me it’s a fantastic representation of a Island whisky with that sea spray on the palate. Sea salt, sweet-smoke comes through with a lingering spicy ness. Top dram this! Will buy again.

I think this is in Ardbeg An Oa, Port Charlotte 10 Heavily Peated, Caol Isla Moch territory. It wasn't really on my radar, but have really enjoyed it and will definitely be back for more, perhaps a visit to the 18 too. Sweet well integrated peat with a nice long finish. Much to like and great value I think.

First couple of pours were very closed and unbalanced. It was not a pleasant experience and I wrote it off as a bad buy. However with time and air space in the bottle the nose from the bottle improved and giving it another chance it showed its balance flavour length and complexity. Excellent whisky

Great value, quality whiskey. I will definitly get back for More. I normally go for a speyside style whiskey. However, While this is a ‘peated’ whiskey, I loved the balance between the peat and more subtle notes of sea salt and cracked black pepper, citrus and floral tones. Will be back for more!

I was introduced to this Whiskey whilst on a break up in Edinburgh earlier this year.If you like a single malt that is easy to drink with or without a splash of water, then this is for you... Smokey flavours make this a very interesting whiskey.Buy it... you will love it

I like the whisky itself. I don't like the way it had been possibly stored. I believe it was stored lying on it's side instead of standing straight up. I susspect that due to the disintegration of the cork which has started to appear. There are few floaters in the bottle.

So, I’m usually an Islay, full on peat, brine fan such as your Lagavulin or Ardbeg etc...This has smoke, full flavour but is reigned back a little. Kind of an Islay, stripped back with more fruit. Quite lovely and easy drinking. I love it.
