I can only describe this bourbon as exceptional!! From the same distillery that gives us the fabulous Buffalo Trace comes it's bigger, bolder brother...Having been converted to bourbon by sipping Buffalo Trace, I found over time and after trying various other brands at differing levels of strength and quality that it left just that little something lacking, maybe a touch of depth or character... Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking it in any way, it will remain one of my favourites for all time having first turned my head to the great whiskey Kentucky produces, however this version from their distillery will certainly rank above it!!This has a really, really good nose, when I first opened my bottle the smell of it filled the entire room with that wonderful sweet, rich aroma you'd hope for in a good bourbon! Add to that great body, full flavours and an exceptionally smooth finish and you're left with a feeling of almost complete satisfaction! At 45% it packs a punch however it's not overpowering at all, in fact it only served to compliment the sensations I described above to me, without the over burn you sometimes find in slightly stronger whiskey. Personally I found each sensation this whiskey delivered to be proportional to the next, making it an absolute pleasure to drink!I'll definitely purchase it again, I'm currently exploring a variety of Kentucky whiskeys but I just know I'll come back to this one at some point.Trust me if you ever wish to impress someone with a great bourbon, I'd go as far to say as you probably won't find many better than this one!!

The Buffalo Trace distillery produce this whiskey in Frankfort, Kentucky, one of the oldest and most historic of distilleries in the USA with roots that go back to the 1700s. There are some really great Bourbons out there that are far beyond the usual £20 bottle, but this particular Whiskey has a complexity and smoothness that is way beyond it's price point. Of all the Bourbons I have tried, and I've tried a few unusual and unheard of ones I can assure you, this one stands out as being a bit special. A lot special in fact.Put it this way; You can keep your Woodford Reserve, Elmer T Lee, Knob Creek, Willet's Pot etc, because at this price and this quality it would take a great deal to haul me away from this one.I hope it doesn't become too popular, but I have to do it service all the same and give it a plug here. This Whiskey is probably the most refined and interesting American Whiskey for under £50-£70 - easy. Absolute bargain. Buy this for a Bourbon lover for Christmas and they'll love you for it. Especially if it's new to them.I've been drinking good and expensive Whiskies both Scotch & American for a long, long time, several times the price of this one, but I totally love this Whiskey from Buffalo Trace. Totally, totally love it. Eagle Rare 10 year old. You don't need the 17 year old, you just need this one. It's heaven.

I first came across this in a posh off-licence when visiting Edinburgh a while back and decided to treat myself. I found out later that it was the big brother of Buffalo Trace, which I'd enjoyed for a while. It's one of the best bourbons I've tried and works wonderfully neat, over ice or in an Old Fashioned (using maple syrup rather than sugar is particularly special).I ended up drinking all of the first bottle without trying it with coke, it's too smooth to need it. When I found that I could get more on Amazon and get it delivered, I immediately knew what I wanted Santa to get me for Christmas. I'm astonished I haven't gone back for more yet.A little pricier than the usual supermarket suspects of Maker's Mark,Bulleit etc but in my opinion you get what you pay for. I'll be saving up to try the 17 year old version

Thought I would try Bourbon, not had it before, not big drinker of spirits. Did a bit of reading reviews online, purchased this. Well if all Bourbon is like this I can see why it is so popular. I think I remember reading Bourbon uses charred barrels (something like that) and I definitely got a taste that I associated with burnt wood, also to me I thought caramel, and a few other things I could not put my finger on. I will now try some other Bourbons.update - I have now tried Woodford reserve which I did not like at all "warm honey", whereas Eagle Rare in comparison is drier and much less sweet.

Easily the best Bourbon that’s readily available in the UK. Like other wheated Bourbons from Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare is a smoother, sweeter Bourbon than Rye-Heavy ones. Really drinkable, and really enjoyable. If you’re looking to ‘upgrade’ your bottle purchase, this is the by far the best way to do it. It gives you the biggest jump in flavour and complexity for your money when spending over £20.It makes a killer Old-Fashioned. It’s great neat. It’s just fantastic. My favourite Bourbon, and a real treat.

Beautifully moorish bourbon! I'm normally a Woodford reserve drinker but really love this stuff. Also tried 101 Wild turkey which is very strong but flavour is quality also various jack Daniels including silver select which I also love even if a little spicy. This is just right for me and tastes a bit woody but a very nice after taste. Just finishing off my first bottle on a Sunday afternoon and thinking I need another one of these. So for the price very a good bourbon.!

Present for my husband (I lost a bet ?). Delivered on time.My husband enjoys bourbon old fashioned’s and we both found this bourbon very smooth and pleasant to sip and savour. It made the Bourbon that we have been drinking taste like paint stripper in comparison ? (and that wasn’t a cheap bottle either).Quite expensive but not much more than we have been paying for the Bourbon we have been drinking and far better quality. Will purchase again :-)

One off deal of £20 was a mega bargain for this. Really good Bourbon loved every drop. But £35 is a just a bit too steep for it. £25 or under then buy it on sight. That would be 5 stars. At £35 well you can get Knob Creek for a fiver less and that will go toe to toe with this. Also you might be lucky enough to see Rare Breed around this price point in which case choose rare breed as it is what our American cousins call a no brainer.

I'm a huge fan of Buffalo Trace so had to buy a bottle. I found this to be very similar to BT, of course being from the same distillery, but smoother and more toned down on some of the notes which I feel makes it great for enjoying neat. Also looks a bit fancier if you want to show off in front of your mates. Would definitely buy again but maybe wait until on offer.

This bourbon is the best for the price and I would put it one notch above woodford reserve for taste. These single cask American bourbons are meticulously crafted using the highest standards and ingredients. Only real virgin white oak barrels are used and they cost a fortune for the distillery to purchase. truly up there with the best of them.

Can't offer an experienced expert's view as I'm quite new to whisky, but it has a slight edge over other Bourbons I've recently bought. But it's more expensive too.In my view the Woodford Reserve (that I recently bought for £20) and the Buffalo Trace (that I recently bought for £18) are better value and not far short in terms of enjoyment.

I've been trying all sorts of Bourbons this year and this is easily my favourite. I'm no expert on the complexities of nose and palette, but this stuff tastes like heaven. It's really smooth and spicy. At 45% it's not as harsh as Wild Turkey and goes down dangerously easily. I definitely prefer this to Woodford Reserve.

Bought as a Xmas gift as my husband collects and drinks small batch bourbon, husband was really merry, oops happy, to receive this. Got a great deal through lightening deals but would pay the full price. The bottle is plain but belies the actual quality of the alcohol, it's a really smooth drink so can't fault purchase.

20.6.2017

I managed to pick this up in a lightening deal for £20, could not pass on that.Such a great whiskey and packed full of flavours. Even at the normal price of approx. £35, its definitely worth it.This is another amazing whiskey released from Buffalo Trace and will always have a bottle.Would definitely recommend this.

13.11.2018

This is a fantastic whiskey. Complex nose & flavour profile and very good mouth feel. Its 17 year old sibling in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection is very rare and regularly sells at over £600 per bottle. So this is about 1/20th of the price, but certainly not 1/20th of the quality. Well worth the money.
