I have a very expensive Krups machine which does filter coffee, expresso, cappuccino etc that I've had for years. Unfortunately I recently dropped and broke the glass jug for the filter side and was disgusted to see that replacements are almost £30. Then I saw this online after looking at reviews. Unfortunately some of the reviews (and the manufacturer website) gives the impression there is controllable temperature on this - there isnt! That aside, it's a great little machine. It's very smart looking, it has a clock on it, it's compact, there is an attractive blue light at the bottom and it has a timer. One great thing - it does seem to make slightly hotter filter coffee than other machines, though still not hot enough for me. If you take it black then no problem, but if you like milk then it's worth warming the milk first. Another feature is that after 40 minutes the hot plate switches off so you cant accidentally leave it on, and you dont get stewed coffee. It's a shame you cant turn this feature off because IMO 40 minutes isnt long enough to use all the coffee and it doesnt really taste stewed until an hour or so. But that's a minor criticism. It doesnt have a removable tank, just a straightforward 'pour it in' type. There is a spray arm for the water which (according to the manufacturer) makes the coffee more flavourful. I cant say I have noticed any difference between this and a regular drip machine. The machine comes with a removable permanent filter which I havent tried as I prefer paper filters. It also claims that water reaches temperature 50% faster. I have no way to test this but the machine certainly seems speedy enough. Also, you can use the 2/4 cups button to give a stronger cup to smaller brews which is nice. One slight 'mis-truth' is the advertised 'auto clean' function. There is no auto clean function - it consists of you having to use vinegar mixed with water, manually add it, press the self clean button - the process takes 30-40 minutes, you then have to empty it, refill with water and keep repeating until the vinegar smell has gone. Under no imaginable circumstances is that 'auto'However, for the price it is a compact, neat, feature packed machine which quickly brews a decent cup of filter coffee. I could knock the odd star off for some of the info not being accurate but that would be petty at this price range. I highly recommend it BUT - if you spend more than £30 on it then knock at least 2 stars off because there are better machines out there once the price starts to rise.Amazon's price for this when I bought it was £27. Tesco was £50, Ebuyer was £40, as was Argos. So this was a bargain. Even better for me, I had a £10 Amazon code so for £17 was way cheaper than a glass jug for my Krups machine!

Well I must say there are a lot of very grumbly reviews on here for this coffee maker and a surprising ignorance of the EU requirement for the hot plate to switch off after half an hour (can't help wondering if they were remain voters). So, two points - 1) this machine retails for about £30, not £300, and, as with everything, you get what you pay for - in this case excellent value for money in my view - and 2) our masters in Brussells have decreed that in the interests of not burning down the whole EU, all such machines must go cold after half an hour - therefore there are now no coffee makers which will keep your coffee warm all day. One can, of course, simply brew a large pot and put it on a warm ring on the cooker if it becomes a matter of life and death. As for the performance of the Russell Hobbs Buckingham in its duties as a hot beverage maker, I am happy to report that the one I use functions flawlessly, makes lovely coffee and does it pleasingly quickly. Adding this efficient and consistent high level of performance to the aforementioned value for money leads me to suggest that 5 stars might well be in order - which indeed they are.One further comment I should add applies to all coffee makers, not only this model - if you have become accustomed to using paper filters in your machine then the use of the permanent filter can be a cloudy and possibly gritty disappointment. Fortunately the Russell Hobbs Buckingham's permanent filter is easily replaced with size 4 paper filters leading to a perfect restoration of the opaque clarity which is part of the mystery of all great coffee.

This was a gift for my boyfriend's father for his birthday/Christmas present. The product came packed in a Russell Hobbs box, rather than a cardboard box so we are lucky we didn't have it deliver straight to his house. The box was sturdy and it came with all the 'typical' RH's information - a user guide and a virgin wine vouchers. The actual coffee maker was packed in a foam case with plastic wrap. Removing the product took a small bit of effort but it goes to show how well packed it was.The product itself is quite lightweight and easy to move around. It's not too large so it can be tucked away in a corner. The coffee machine has a few good features - a clock that tells the time, a self-cleaning button,a measuring spoon which clips onto the side of the coffee machine and some other handy features. A favourite, as described by my boyfriend's father was the 'alarm clock' which allowed him to set a time for the machine to start brewing coffee. Though it means having everything set up - the water filled and the coffee granules in the machine, it is quite handy. The coffee fills up into a glass jug which holds up to 4 cups of coffee. You can select how many cups you'd like to have and from using the machine myself while at his house, it is easy to use.The only con of this machine is that it can be quite loud and does take a while to fill up, especially with four cups of coffee.Overall, this is a convenient coffee machine which I would recommend to any coffee lovers. My boyfriend's father loved it! I have even considered buying one for my home.Hope this has helped,Allie

Bought as a replacement for another brand that gave up the ghost after several years of faithful service.Pros:- Good access and easy to use- Keeps coffee nice and hot (compared to the previous machine)- Like the bright display when on, and the corresponding ring around the base that lights up- The ring around the base blinks for the last ten minutes of the warming period so you know time is running out- Permanent filter is easy to clean and saves money & aggro by not needing to bother with paper filters- No problem to turn off, then on again to recycle the 40-minute time limit- Easy to reprogram the clock if the machine is unpluggedCons:- It's not the fault of Russell Hobbs, but I hate the EU-imposed 40-minute restriction on how long the machine keeps the coffee hot. Our old machine would stay on for two hours; the one before that would stay on indefinitely.- The filter does allow some coffee grounds and sludge to get through into the carafe (and ultimately, the coffee mugs). So the carafe needs a good clean after each use (instead of just a quick rinse).- It's nice that it comes with a scoop, but as I don't need it (I already have a scoop; imagine that), it just sits awkwardly on the side.- the carafe seems quite fragile (but then, don't they all?).All in all, it's an adequate replacement; it makes coffee, keeps it hot. Wish it kept it hot for longer, but that's not the machine's fault. Still, for that reason and the tendency to let slightly more sludge and grounds through the filter it just misses out on five stars. Hopefully it will last for years and years.

Really pleased with this machine. It is easy to fill, easy to clean and makes a perfectly drinkable cup of coffee. Some of the reviews on here state that it takes a long time to make a pot. I've found it takes the time it takes to iron a shirt which I don't think is too long. They also say that the coffee is too cold - can't think why unless they like their coffee at boiling point, which spoils the taste. The coffee coming out of this machine is hot enough, believe me. The jug hold enough coffee to make 4 very big mugs of coffee. Yes the machine does turn off after 40 minutes, a EU enforced measure to save electricity and for safety. If you haven't used all the coffee in that time just turn it back on it heats up the remaining brew in about 10 minutes from cold so no great hassle. We've used this pot everyday for the last couple of months and are very pleased with it. If you're looking for a reliable, simple coffee machine that makes a decent drinkable cup of coffee this is a really great one. If you are expecting a coffee shop, barista-style, instant whomp coffee machine this isn't it.

I read the reviews before purchasing this coffee maker . I can confirm it does not 'beep' , there is also a leaflet that tells you so , within the packaging. The machine looks good, is easy to operate and brews coffee quickly. It's lovely coming downstairs to the smell of coffee in the morning. Dont do what i did on first using it, i forgot to put the water in and came down to no coffee ! I turned the machine off and added water to the tank. Big mistake as i immediately had steam blasted towards me ! Yes it was silly but first thing in the morning, in need of coffee ........it is obvious but it can happen to anyone when half asleep ! That's 'user ' fault not the machine ! The blue light looks great ,it flashes after a while to let you know if it isn't drunk soon, it'll be no good. I didn't know that after 40 mins there is a chemical reaction in the coffee which changes its taste ! On the whole fantastic filter machine - no filters to buy . Love it - thank you !

After researching coffee machines for a present for my father, I didn’t realise that they had timers on them nowadays, I came across this model and I am very pleased with it.Even though it will work well without Filter papers, I do find that it leaves a little very fine “sludge” of coffee grounds in the brew.I tend to use the number 4 coffee filter papers and it makes for a better brew, but also it makes for easier cleaning as I just whip the filter paper out with the spent coffee grounds and dispose of it, the filter and it’s holder are then swilled under a running tap, and the coffee jug gets the same treatment, cleaning time is under two mins. The timer function is excellent,on an evening I fill the machine up with water and filter coffee, and set the time for 6:30 am, we get up at 7:45 am to a lovely hot jug of coffee. How did we manage without it?, we have found the Aldi Italian blend number 4 really nice, and cheap at around £1.20 a pack

Makes good coffee. Is not as tall as most units so it fits better under the cupboards. Reasonable quick. The best bit is filling the reservoir. Unlike most units where filling the reservoir is via an opening the size of the eye of a needle in an completely inaccessible place, thus resulting in water everywhere, this coffee maker has a large opening right on top where you can get at it. The jug pours properly (with a modicum of care). We've had this about 6 months and we bought it to replace a (new) Morphy Richards which, after about 4 months, was turning 50% of the water to steam. From reading many reviews, this seems to be not an uncommon problem with coffee makers these days.Perhaps I'm being mean with only 4 stars. If it still works in 10 years time (that's how long my last one worked) it will get 5 stars. Heck, if it works in couple of years it'll get 5 stars since nothing seems to be built to last longer than that anymore.

I loved this coffee machine it was brilliant but similar to other reviews it sorta breaks after a while. I suspect water is getting into the wrong area as I can get it to turn on and stable but the moment I add water, a few minutes later it turns off and I can see the water level drops ever so slightly. There's this hole on the right of the reservoir that looks to be the culprit – seal might have worn away. In terms of cleaning it, the booklet recommends 4 cups of cleaning solution (Vinegar) with 6 cups of water... This isn't possible as the reservoir can't accomodate that much liquid! So, dumb it down to a w part vinegar for 3 parts water and it's about right, cleans the limescale right up.Very easy to clean I'd say, and created consistently tasty coffee for the 2.5 years I had it. I've moved over to Aeropress and V60 now, little less set it and go but does the job and is a lot better suited to my small kitchen!

The picture of this item led me to think the water delivery system was made of metal. I was disappointed to find it is all plastic. Why it has a gleaming steel appearance in the picture is misleading. However I was pleased with the function. After one flush I made enough coffee for 2 mugs. It was quick and the coffee was nice an hot. There was no hint of plastic in the taste. The blue lights are pleasing to the eye while the coffee brews. The machine is easy to fill using the jug as a measure. The non drip function dripped once but it is enough to stain the hot plate. The jug pours well with no drips.Cleaning is easy the permanent filter works well and rinses under the tap.I use the coffee residue for composting.Everything works as expected but I have not tried the timer and probably never will its quick and easy to use as it is.If there is anything else to report i will update the review.

Can't fault this for the price. It is quite flimsily built but does its job very well. Yes, the jug is very thin and you have to take care to not break it. Some reviewers have complained of a smell of plastic but I found this disappeared after running it with water a few times as suggested in the users guide. The 40 minute cut off is a bit annoying but this is an EU directive and is common to all coffee makers bought since 2017. You can get round this by just pressing the start button again and the machine will recognise there is no water in the reservoir and go to 'keep warm' again. Other reviewers have complained that it doesn't maintain the brewed coffee at a high enough temperature but as I am not a fan of scalding my mouth,I have no problem with this. I have used it every day since purchase in August 2017 and I think it is one of the best buys I have made in a very long time.

This is a great coffee maker. very small and well designed. The water is always what I would consider the right temperature for coffee. Just a bit too hot to drink straight from the jug but about right after a few minutes in the cup. I drink black coffee (3 tea spoons of beans per cup).If you are making a less than 3 cups then there is a button you can press to slow down the flow of water and give the coffer more time to extract. The maker has a long arm with holes in that delivers the water to the ground coffee, this seems to work really well and soaks all of the coffee quickly. The base also lights up blue when in use which is pretty. It has a mesh filter but I always use a while paper filteras well to get really clear coffee.I believe there is also an auto off time for the coffee heating in the base but I don't use this since I don't like coffee that has been siting around

I bought one of these for my home and after the initial10 full runs to get rid of the plastic smell I loved it. I used to set it using the timer/clock daily to make sure I had coffee before work (usually straight out of bed to de-zombify myself). I loved it so much that I got another one and took my home one to work. There's also a 1-4 cups button to make sure you get all the flavours from your coffee if no one else fancies a brew. It's being used 1 to 4 times daily and seems to cope admirably. I would say do use the scoop and approximately level each one, and don't overfill the water on the marks to avoid grouts going into water chamber and then onto the heat plate as it then needs cleaning. Some good coffee and some unbleached number 4 filter papers and you're ready to go. Remember a large pack of cheap coffee to get rid of the manufacturing smells and tastes. Then enjoy!

Really good coffee maker. I particularly like the 4-5 cup option for stronger coffee as I found with other coffee makers, if you only half fill it, the coffee did seem a bit weaker. The shower head technology definitely gives a fuller coffee flavour than the usual steam / water...thing.The little coffee scoop which lives in a handy little slot on the side of the machine so you don't use it us useful as you always know what measurements to put the coffee in.Two things I am not too fussed on are the carafe which seems a bit thin and cheap, though it does it's job and when cleaning after each use, coffee grounds get around the shower head, so when you are cleaning, a few coffee grounds can fall into the water resevoir.Overall,it is a fantastic coffee maker and 100% worth the price. I would definitely buy again in the future.

Whilst on holiday, we enjoyed filter coffee every morning, as our holiday let had a coffee machine. On returning home, we were bereft - no more sunny days spent swimming in the lake or warm evenings spent dining al fresco in charming restaurants. We had to recapture some of the holiday magic. But how? Then, it hit us. We’d get our own coffee percolator! And so we did. We chose this one because it was the cheapest available from a brand we’d actually heard of. We use it every day and it makes us happy. Not much more to be said for the actual machine. You put some coffee in (we use filter papers because we are both lazy, but they are optional), press a button and - hey presto! - the jug fills up with coffee. Our daughter has made up a short song about the machine, but sadly I can’t upload sound files to my review.
