this is my absolute favourite coffee maker – and believe me, i've tried a lot!the coverage of the spray is near-perfect, as there are 7 miniature nozzles circling the outside with the larger central nozzle as well. the "flavour" valve on the top of the device adjusts the flow to these nozzles, if you prefer something with less full extraction. (i leave mine on maximum flavour all the time). it's got the best spread out of any other machine i've used.the carafe is a wonderfully thoughtful design, it's just so much more ergonomic to use compared to similar other carafes. it fits in so snugly in the body as well, there's no huge gap around the outside. holding the lid up or keeping it closed is easily done with your thumb, with no spring-loaded mechanism to fight against. there are capacity markings marked on the jug handle as well as on the tank in the actual device.speaking of the coffee maker's tank, it's semi-transparent and very easy to see into. especially once you open the coffee compartment, you can get an unbroken view across the entire back. in addition, the lid lifts easily. but there's also a small ventilation hole in the top back of the tank, removing the need to leave the lid open to prevent weird musty odours from forming. the same can be said about the coffee compartment, so long as you remove the coffee grounds themselves, it will dry without having to be left open to air-out. so it looks more elegant, for sure.the timer function is nice, although to be honest i hardly use it. i'm fussy about the taste of my coffee, and the flavour just degrades a bit too much being left out overnight for the timer to go off. so i prefer to just make coffee first thing in the morning myself instead of setting a timer. this reduces the time that the coffee "stews" on the hotplate, too. so all in all, i probably could've got the more basic model without the timer, but i like that it has the little clock on it even if i don't use it for anything.being able to adjust how long the keep-warm timer runs for is wonderful. not just for lengthening the time to 60 minutes for those who like it kept hot a long time, but also reducing it to 20 minutes for those of us who prefer to avoid "stewing" their coffee.the water hardness reminder i'm sure would be useful, but i live in an area with exceedingly soft water (actually 1000x less than the minimum setting in the coffee maker), and i've yet to see any reminder about descaling even after a year of daily use. i did however used to live in a highly hard water area so i can absolutely imagine the usefulness. it's just not something i get use out of anymore, and it's certainly not a sophisticated sensor or anything like some people think – it just keeps track of how many cycles it's ran and reminds you at a pre-programmed time interval.the mechanism for filling the coffee is wonderful. the coffee compartment swings out cleanly, and you can even lift the basket out from there to wash it all in the dishwasher and get everything sparkling clean at 60º. it's super easy to get a good look at the coffee as you're putting it in, and then once you're done you simply swing it closed again. many other coffee makers that i've used had the coffee compartment underneath a single flip-top lid that also accesses the water tank. that is a much worse design than this one, which is a joy to use.so yes, all in all, the ergonomics of this device are amazing, and well-worth the extra price. in addition, the coffee is extremely well-brewed and flavourful without needless bubbles or aeration during the brewing which might spoil the taste. it's about as close as you can get to an automated pourover coffee. the fashion of the piece is great as well. understated cool with the black and the chrome and the glass.as i just mentioned, i've used this for almost a year now, and it's still going strong – not given up the ghost like some cheaper units. i've wasted far more money than this cost just searching other cheaper units – i wish i had just gone straight to this unit. it's not fancy overkill, but it's solidly made and built to last instead of churned out at a minimum cost. it feels really nice to use, it's sturdy and strong in day to day use, it's incredibly easy to clean, and it's just a joy to use.highly recommended.

Love it. Have an Aero-press which has been my go to device for years (and I still use it constantly) but I like the filter machine for a change -plus the AP is a pain for more than one coffee.Jug keeps the coffee hot for a loooong time (well into the afternoon from an 8am brew.I found the flavour is kept well:-Firstly the filter paper method means you have no coffee grounds sitting in the jug (however slowly, traces of grounds in a coffee pot will keep brewing and add bitterness over time).-Secondly, as it does not rely on a heating element to keep it warm you avoid the risk of the coffee at the bottom of a jug being overheated which I suspect happens in all but the most accurately controlled (i.e.expensive) models that rely on a heater -In my experience coffe in these machines, no matter how nice when freshly brewed, is disgusting after a hour. [Insulated jug is also much more energy efficient ;-) ]Would recommend!Only read on if you wish to be even more bored....The knob at the top to adjust intensity seems pointless to me. Difficult to see exactly how it works but basically it just seems to shut off a couple of the drippers in the centre. This has the effect of sort of brewing the coffee grounds round the edges more than the centre. It does seem to make a small difference to the strength but it's quite a crappy solution -surely you want all of the grounds brewed evenly, otherwise you're just wasting coffee? Much better, I think to just buy the roast strength you like and put in the quantity you like then have the machine brew it all evenly. After a bit of experimentation I settled on the knob being at near maximum which seems to spread the drip pattern fairly evenly. Maybe I'm missing something but strikes me as a marketing gimmick and actually diminishes the perfect AND easy pot of coffee objective -glass half empty moaning aside, it doesn't lose a point over this.

First things first, this came with a Schalke euro style plug on, NOT A UK one. My item was fulfilled by Amazon Warehouse. Not mentioned in description which plug included, but the pictures do show it, so possibly my own fault? I still complained and Amazon refunded me the purchase price of a plug converter, as I really did want the coffee maker.I previously had a traditional hotplate machine that had died. Overall this is a great machine that makes very nice tasting coffee. Because there is no hotplate, the coffee doesn't sit stewing and take on the taste that comes from that. Great if you make a pot then drink it through the morning like I do. The last cup tastes exactly the same as the first cup, even 2 or 3 hours later. I found the coffee stays 'hot enough' for 1-2 hours. If you preheat the jug with boiling water from the kettle for a few mins before running, it stays much hotter for a lot longer. Some people will find the coffee doesn't come out hot enough from the jug if you don't preheat it as above, especially those who drink their coffee white. A simple solution I've found is to heat your milk for 30 secs in microwave before adding the coffee, then you get a very hot cup even hours later. The inlet to the jug is quite small, so be sure to rinse the jug out straight after use, washing later if it dries inside will be a chore. And I have read the jugs can be fragile when trying to wash the inside.Takes standard paper filters sold in most supermarkets, or here on amazon. No permanent filter included - this suits me better as I like to remove and discard rather than washing a permanent filter out every time. Also using paper I can grind my beans down quite fine and not get any residue into the jug,Would recommend the machine as long as you can deal with the plug issue.

I’ve had this coffee maker for 18 months and it does its job perfectly. My coffee machine runs a minimum of once a day and on regular occasions is used twice or three times per day. I’m very particular on having a machine that is quiet, easy to keep clean and which main components can easily be stuck in a dishwasher. At the same time I’m also not prepared to pay over the odds for some German-engineered designer machine as I find no value in kitchen top bragging rights.I bought the white machine as I think it looks nice and modern and suits a modern kitchen. It’s sturdy and well designed with all areas of the machine easy to access for cleaning and very few ridges/nooks and crannies that are difficult to get dirt off.The white machine is prone to coffee stains so you need to be vigilant and wipe any spills before it dries. The lid of the coffee pot is most prone to this and with my heavy use I couldn’t avoid it staining eventually. Not that it bothered me that much in the end as the lid of the pot you only see while pouring a cup. The descaling works well but just like all modern dishwashers, etc it only works as well as the person has set it up, ie read the instructions and set the correct water hardness level. Also as with any kettles, steam irons, etc if you’re a heavy user then don’t use tap water in England, use a water filter. For this price I don’t expect an appliance to last forever but almost to the day after having had it for 18 months this morning it just stopped brewing. Power and all lights on but nothing heats up. Guess I’ll need to order another. That’s modern electrical consumables I guess.

This makes really good coffee. The water is evenly distributed when it hits the coffee grounds and because of this it makes the coffee taste so much better. The timer and everything else is very easy to set up. It feels like a good quality product from a well known brand when it comes to coffee. You can set the auto off to 20 mins, 40 mins or 1 hour - so I like how they've given you this option. So why only 4 stars?- It isn't in my opinion the nicest LOOKing (see what I did there!) coffee machines, but it does look rather smart any way.- Where you pour the water in is rather small, but as long as you're careful you will be fine.- It doesn't include a reusable filter and a scoop. Personally,I use paper filters so this isn't a problem, but most coffee makers tend to include both of theseIf you're looking for a good filter coffee machine, then I highly recommend this. It feels like it is built to last. I've had a lot of machines, and I can tell you that the reason I purchased this one was because a similar machine from a very reputable company broke after 2 weeks of usage(!), the text buttons were erasing from use etc. However, I feel with the features they've added such as the buttons having engraved text rather than just printed on, a descaling program etc, the manufacturer has built it to last for a very very long time to come.

Having used a French press coffee maker for years I had been giving consideration to buying a 'pod' machine. I researched them and had reduced my choice to a several different machines. However, the more I tasted coffee made in them I was disappointed. The pod machines tended to pour coffee a cooler temperature than was useful, the strongest flavoured pods were always weak and lacked body, and then there's the waste. This brought me to more traditional coffee makers, and having seen Melitta machines while visiting Germany I thought the brand was worth exploring. I eventually ordered this machine and cannot fault it for the price point. Used with the paper filters it produces a good fresh tasting coffee. The timer feature is very useful for rushed morning coffee, plus you wake up to the smell of it brewing. There is an option to dial in the flavour strength of your preference, and if used in conjunction with the different filter types made by Melitta, you hit the sweet spot of taste. A bonus is that the parts you use most are dishwasher safe.My only gripe with the machine was that it came with a European plug (it is a German brand), so its worth ordering with and adapter unless you're willing to switch the plug type over.

Verdict: This may be the best coffee machine for under £100. Great built quality. Consistently good tasting coffee which is easy to make in the morning.Things I look for in a coffee machine in the order of preference:1. Consistency - Taste and viscosity of the coffee2. Ease of use (load and clean)3. Temperature of the coffee4. Cost5. Built QualityPros: Once you get the intensity level and the amount of coffee powder right, the machine makes the exact same coffee every single day. This is absolutely critical for me and here the product excels. In all the coffee is ready for 3 cups in under 5 mins clean-load-brew, again an absolute ease. I dont use preset options and for me this machine is a one button tool.Which again is a great benefit. Afterall, all you need is a button. Not a fan of complex brewing settings or of changing my coffee type regularly.Cons: Well, it is not a versatile machine. All you get is simple black coffee to kick start your day. If you prefer to make multiple coffee types or even espresso, you'll need to look elsewhere. The parts do feel overly plastic, but have not given way yet and dont look like they will unless I fight with it.

After 20 years I have had to replace my old coffee machine as I dropped tins on it and it broke!.This is so much faster than the old one, the coffee is ready before I have finished getting the breakfast ready, so no more waiting for the coffee. It was easy to set up, adjusting the setting for water hardness to 1, as we use bottled water in this and the kettle to avoid limescale, and reducing the time the hotplate stays active as always drink the coffee as soon as its brewed.Coffee is very hot and has a cleaner less harsh / bitter taste than my old machine (even with the aroma dial set to strong). It is easy to fill with coffee and water and will happily do just one mug.I do find I need to dry the water container out with a piece of kitchen paper after, but that is probably just me being over fussy about not leaving any residual dampness in the reservoir. The pot and coffee filter / container are easy to clean and he pot pours without any drips.Haven't used the timer function, but it is easy to set upOnly had it a few days, but so far am very happy.

I debated between this and the 1011-16 which has the thermal jug. I. So glad I went for this one as I much prefere the look of the glass jug and this model has the stay warm hot plate. I set the timer function last night for 7 o'clock and I set the hot plate to stay on for an hour. I actually didn't get up until 7:55, I put a nice splash of milk in two mugs and filled up with the coffee, I took a sip and burned my mouth! I'm amazed at how hot it kept it and because it keeps it hot after its brewed it doesn't turn it bitter. It it very easy to clean and looks very stylish in the kitchen. I did make a mistake when I first used it, I thought I had to switch it off maually after the water has gone out of the tank but you don't.The machine knows when the tank is empty, if you turn it off manually like I did it switches the hot plate off to.

Besides the great design that is sturdy and attractive, this thing brews a good cup of coffee and you actually can adjust intensity- its not just a gimmick! It pours cleanly and the stop drip function works so you can get a cup mid-brew, if you need to. Its just the right temperature every time and its quick! You wake up to good aroma and a pot of good coffee you can rely on- no grounds, no nonsense. Easy to clean and even came with a sample of cleaner for the machine. This coffee machine is worth every penny so far. Just got it so I may update but I hope not because right now its one of the best machines I've had, if not the very best. So good to have a reliable, quality machine!I rely on this little guy to get me going and jump start my busy days as a working mother! Hooray for Melitta.

This coffee maker is well built as you would expect from Melitta, and has a variable strength adjustment. The auto power off is slightly confusing as the heating element is first switched off when all water is put through machine, then at 7 minutes later the mechanical switch on the side is flipped off automatically. This I believe is to comply with EU regulations on power saving, max 20 mins or so, relating to the hotplate version. But as this vacuum flask version does not have a hot plate it simply prevents the machine coming back on later. I would have preferred to have seen the initial power off flip the power switch when all water has been used on this version.Overall I am happy with themachine with good build quality and the vacuum flask keeps coffee hot for 3 to 4 hours.

While living in Germany I got used to filter coffee makers with thermos jugs rather than a 'keep warm' facility that tends to stew the brew over time. My old model finally turned up its toes so I gave this fairly priced model a try. As a coffee maker it works fine, but with a couple of minor caveats: one the capacity is just shy of four mugs - it makes 3 and a half, so my consumption is slightly down(!) and secondly because Melitta are the kings of filter paper, it has no permanent filter. Filter papers are not expensive and make cleaning a breeze and probably produce slightly superior coffee (imho), so its not all bad. Basically a 'damn fine coffee' machine and well priced. Very satisfied.

I was given a Nespresso machine for my birthday, but realised that what I missed was the convenience of having a coffee pot to last throughout the morning while I work at home. I did a lot of research, and settled on this machine based on the reviews and various different recommendations. I am very glad I chose this one - not only does it make good coffee, but the entire machine just functions well. The timer function is easy to use, as is the keep warm setting which you can adjust between 20 minutes and 2 hours, and it is very easy to take apart and clean. I highly rate this if you're looking for a coffee maker, this is definitely one of the best on the market.

Makes good coffee, love the timer as we get up and the coffee is already made in the morning. The calc light comes on automatically to tell you to decalc the machine. We have had it for couple of months and it has asked to decalc twice already but lemon juice works fine. The light for timer is exceptionally bright and lights up the kitchen at night. As there are lots of questions on this, the jug is glass, there is no plastic filter so use paper ones and it does not drip once done. It also has a stay warm function which is adjustable. We had the wrong manual is our box or a hybrid that didn't cover all the functions but figured it out.

i bought thus as a birthday gift for my Hubby as he'd always been on about getting one, as its our first filter coffee machine I have nothing to compare it to but so far its been really easy to use & clean & makes a really good cup of coffee, the timer function works great too & there is a nice built in clock, hubby is pleased so far! recommended. I should mention that the cup scale for the water quantities is obviously based on international expressos as a large cup on the scale is only 125ml we found that if you double it it is fine so for example if you want two cups fill to number 4 on the large cup scale, 4 cups fill to 8 etc etc.
