The Russell Hobbs 24420 1 Power 90 Station is a very nice looking, and easy to use the unit. This is an iron that will cut down on the time you need to iron; as the bumf states ‘with its powerful steam makes sure you can easily glide over every material with ease’. It is nice and relatively compact and easy to store. With the Russell Hobbs 24420, it is a lot quieter than my other one. You’ll no longer have to worry about frequently cleaning your steam generator as it comes with a special calc cleaning system that’s calculated to filter and purify the water on its way into the tank. My previous one was loud warming up and throughout, you could hear me ironing. This is now not a problem here.I also like the fact you do not have to alter any temperature settings and can lay the iron straight down on the board without it getting too hot. The iron is Light and easy to use, the iron glides, it simple to use. Good steam flow gets the job done. The size of the water tank is also a plus as once filled up I can get through good 2 baskets of washing before I need to stop and refill it. The Steam Power Generator is equipped to level away even the roughest creases and crinkles with comprehensive ease. The unremitting fill feature lets you to continuously top-up its tank. The water you can get through will even tackle the major pile of clothes to iron in a short time. In addition, the non-stick coating covers the sole plate is both smooth in-operation; it is scratch-resistant and mitigates a lengthy ironing process. The results I get from the iron are very good, it takes me much less time to get through tough creases and in general has sped up the time it takes me which in my opinion can only be a good thing. In my humble opinion, this unit is worthy of a full five-star rating.

This is at the cheaper end of steam generator irons, and very good value for one from a well-known brand. Both the iron and the base unit are good-looking and sturdily made. You could pay more –a lot more – but it would be a case of diminishing returns, unless you have industrial quantities of ironing. It is more compact than many of its competitors. In turn, it is relatively lightweight (Russell Hobbs say it’s their lightest) and easy to store. However, this is achieved with the sacrifice of some tank capacity - the claim that the tank is “extra large” is rather an exaggeration. How important this is to you depends on how big a load you iron in one session. In mitigation, you can take the tank out,re-fill it and carry on ironing without waiting for the iron to cool down.In operation, it is fairly quiet. The steam trigger is quite responsive, unlike some where it tends to be all or nothing. The actual ironing movement is easy, aided by the non-stick soleplate. The process is so effective that, except for really thick fabric, you need to iron only one side. The self-cleaning feature is effective and very welcome. There are a few shortcomings preventing it from getting the full five stars:-When you put the iron back on the base, you have to slide it in between four little “feet”. This is OK for storage, but a pain if you just want to put the iron down for a little in the middle of an ironing session-Despite the plug storage slot in the base unit, the cable won’t wind round the iron properly for storage..-You have to let the iron cool down before you can store it on the base – this can be up to an hour.Overall, though, this is a good, cheap entry level steam generator iron.

Steam generator irons were a revelation to me. They reduced the time I spent ironing and are so much more effective at removing creases. This steam generator iron is much the same as the ones I have used in the past. It has a decent sized removable tank at the front of the base that is easy to fill. The temperature dial is pretty standard and is easy to adjust and the trigger to activate the steam on the underside of the handle is comfortable to use.The iron sits on top of the base between four rubber pads. This doesn't look terribly secure but in practise is not a problem. The sole-plate of the iron glides over fabrics and provides a good finish on all types of fabrics. The base includes a socket which you can insert the plug into for storage- great idea, and a hook for the lead. This is useful but would be more effective if it was slightly bigger. All of the other steam generator irons that I have owned have included a integral 'cal clean' facility for descaling the iron. This is very useful as I live in a hard water area so all of my electrical appliances require very regular descaling. This iron does not include an alarm to tell you when the appliance requires descaling or a 'cal clean' function. To ensure that the iron functions effectively you have to purchase replacement anti-scale cartridges from the manufacturer (it warns against the use of other descaling products).Although this is a good iron, the additional expense and inconvenience of having to purchase anti scale cartridges is likely to be an issue for people like me that live in hard water areas.

I guess like a lot of 21-st century families we try and buy clothing that requires minimal ironing however there are those things like bedding, shirts etc that leave you no choice but to indulge in a little ironing from time to time. Well if that's you - even better if you have a LOT of ironing to do, then this is just what you need! My wife set this up without any help from me - bearing in mind it has a 'station' that it sits on that contains the water tank and whatever else it needs to get the water up to the iron so it does require a little space to stand the 'station' on but once in position and heated up, it provides an astonishing amount of steam.Folding a king-size duvet cover into several layers it only required one side be ironed - it removed the creases right through! My wife then went on to test it ironing a thin jersey on a hanger using only the steam - something a standard iron simply can't do but which this one boasts is part of its repertoire - and voila - creases gone! To top it all, the water tank holds enough water to keep even the most hard-nosed ironing aficionado happy for ages before needing a refill. Efficient, time-saving and versatile. It's the one and only time I have ever heard my wife say that ironing today was a PLEASURE! Highly recommended.

This is a compact steam generator and having used two pricier Philips PrefectCare SG’s in the past this is definitely a step down however it takes up a lot less space in the cupboard and is definitely an improvement on non-SG models in use. It’s compact size does makes it easier to store than my previous irons however I would have preferred a locking facility to enable me to carry it this one handed rather than the rather odd rubber feet setup which makes the iron difficult to place and doesn’t hold it that securely at all. I much prefer to put the base on the floor and the iron in my board cradle put it that way.The detachable tank makes it easy to fill/empty/carry and should be large enough for most sessions. The iron itself is not too heavy but I did find the sole plate a little sticky at first. The dial icons are a little feint to see too. Ironing performance is ok however the steam button does have a bit of lag before coming through which is a bit irritating but you do get used to it.Basically, this is just that a basic steam generator which is reflected in the price. Easy to store, fill up and carry around however ironing performance is just ok compared to the Philips PerfectCare range but they are way more expensive so you pays your money...

I've used steam generator irons for the last 5 years or so. I would not want to do my ironing without one now. This Russell Hobbs 24430 is actually a very good entry into the world of steam generator irons. It is very small in comparison to my larger Tefal unit, however it does have a lot less power. The thing is, this still has enough power to do normal ironing with ease, and is so much better than a conventional iron. The water tank is quite small and runs out about 3/4 through my washing, but filling it up isn't a chore.I do notice the reduced steam when trying to iron over dried clothes, yet for everything else this does the job well.I have a few gripes,I found the de-calcing mechanism surprisingly hard to open after a couple of weeks of use, which was annoying. It has a weird power cable management system in place which I didn't much like. It also feels quite plasticy. However, in terms of value for money this is very very good. I almost want to give this 5 stars, but I just can't justify it as it's not perfect.

For just over the £50 mark I’m pretty impressed with this steam iron and thing it’s very good value for money. First of all it’s relatively compact. All steam irons take up a bit of space but this is better than others I’ve been looking at. The removable water tank is 1.3 litres in volume. You can get bigger capacity tanks but then that’s the trade off between capacity and space. I would imagine 1.3 litres is more than enough for most unless they’ve got a lot of ironing to get through. It’s certainly enough for me to get through our basket of weekly Sunday night ironing without having to refill. It’s a delight to use. It starts up quietly and quickly and is fairly light and easy to use.If you are new to steam irons then you’re in for a treat with this model. There are one or two minor issues with it such as the fact you have to let it cool down before returning it to the unit which can take quite a while. So it’s not perfect in that sense but for an entry level steam iron I think it’s excellent.

This is a very good steam generator iron from Russell Hobbs .It has a 1.3l removable water tank. The soleplate e is made of non-stick ceramic. It generated 100g of steam this makes it very easy to iron the most difficult creases and wrinkles. It has a limescale defence system which contains and antisocial aartidge that helps filters the water to avoid limescale build up and another filter that catches any unfiltered limescale that buildup, this can be emptied. It has a Calc clean reminder light so you know when to empty it. The base has handles and cord storage. The most important feature is that it works like charm and makes ironing easy and fun. There is continuous steam generation with 60 seconds heat up time.It is not cordless though, it has a 1.9m cord.

This is not the best steam generator iron I have ever used but at the price it is probably the best in terms of value for money. It generates loads of steam, which is the most important thing for irons of this type because it is the steam which takes out the wrinkles in fabrics, not the temperature of the plate. Although a lot of steam is generated it is not so much that clothes can feel quite damp after ironing which is something I have experienced with budget priced irons of this type. The lowish temperature of the plate means that even the most careless user cannot burn things. The iron glides well and performs excellently on all fabrics from synthetic silky things to denim and heavy linen.A good buy.

This isn't the most expensive steam generator iron but despite a few niggles it does a good job, so if price has been putting you off making the leap from "ordinary iron" this might be a good choice. It is easy to fill, heats up fast, and the iron part is comfortable to hold. (Though this is a personal choice). It does a good job on high setting on cotton sheets, but is prone to spitting especially early in the session. This can be annoying. Apart from that, the cord and hose storage is inadequate so you end up with things sneaking around the cupboard and getting tangled up.

Overall the product is good and very good value for money. There is a short delay from pressing the steam button and receiving the steam and there is overrun for quite a few seconds on the steam emissions after releasing the button which means it is ejecting steam after you have returned the iron to it's seat on the tank. Other than that my only gripe is the stupid sticky label on the side of the tank which leaves sticky residue on your new iron when it is peeled off. Why not use a vinyl tape label? Small thing but annoying none the less.

I really like this iron, I love all the different features and settings my last iron had 5 so it’s good for adjusting for various garments including my satin bedsheet, i absolutely love the stream iron setting too!! My only Criticism is that it’s fairly large overall not terribly heavy but just quite bulky which I know it has to be for the features however storage is difficult for me but that’s just a personal note. Overall a fantastic iron that works perfectly and heats in seconds!! Ideal for bigger families with bigger loads!!

This is a really effective iron, the steam it produces really does reduce the time it takes to iron clothes compared to my old 'standard' iron so I was really pleased. It glides nicely across the clothes too.The only issue for me is how the cables are stored, there's the cable for the mains and the cable to the iron and they are just fiddly to store in their clips and don't always stay put which spoils the whole experience, but at least the iron works well!

No problems to report with this great steam iron. It heats up quickly and produces a good amount of steam. The best thing about using a steam iron is that the iron itself is very lightweight to use as you don't have to fill the iron with water - the steam is produced by the base unit. It is quite a sizeable unit but does fit (just) on the ironing board while in use!

I got this iron today and I honestly could not wait to write this! I love to iron, no shame, and this iron is super light weight but amazing! I previously had a Tefal similar one and it was so heavy I don’t know why I’ve not swapped sooner! Limescale filter and a second filter with removable water tank, easy storage and a plug space. Highly recommend!
