Every toaster I researched on Amazon had at least one comment warning about uneven browning, so in the end I had to take a chance on this one. I ran it for one cycle with no bread in, as the instructions said, and then tried it with bread. I was dismayed to find the slice came out charred on one side and untouched on the other and thought I'd made a big mistake. Spoiler alert: I hadn't.After using the toaster a few more times, using the lift function to flip the slices around halfway through (very useful feature), I noticed that the problem seemed to be correcting itself. And indeed it seems to have gone away. Toast is now pretty even on both sides and doesn't need turning. Big relief. The slots are wide, which is lovely. My favourite sliced bread tends to have huge doorstops at either end, which this toaster accommodates without issue. I've also toasted bagels in it with no problem.Safety and points to note:-The browning dial goes from zero to charcoal very quickly, so start it on a very low setting and experiment with increasing it gradually to your preferred degree of yum. I also recommend putting a little white tack or white correction fluid on the knob to make it easier to see where it's pointing, because it's easy to knock by mistake.+Haven't tried cleaning it yet, but the crumb tray works fine and the outside can be easily wiped down.-Obviously the metal areas of the body get pretty hot. Be careful when reaching for the eject button (which isn't that easy to find, depending which way around the toaster is standing).+The lever doesn't get hot - I actually chose this toaster on that basis, being slightly motor impaired myself, because it looked as though the body of the lever was durable-seeming metal but the handle was large and made of insulating plastic. It is, and it works well.+The coloured side panels are plastic, so tend to get warm but remain safe to touch.+The toaster has a little rubber skirt around the bottom and it stands on four small legs. As a result, the counter underneath doesn't seem to get too hot.

I just love my toast in the morning. I like it to be as near perfect as possible, however, and this clever little toaster from Russell Hobbs lets me check just how close to perfection my bread has been toasted. I use different breads, from time to time, all of which have varying toasting demands. No problem. I can lift up the control lever to check how my toast is doing. Then slide it back down if it needs just a little more treatment without disturbing the timing sequence. No that's what I call user friendly. While I mostly toast bread, the slots are big enough to accept scones, pancakes or other goodies for toasting. It lets me check on them too. I can also set just how brown I want my toasted treat to be.Most do. But this one will also toast perfectly from frozen. Has some neat design feautres too. All the crumbs that gather on the bottom are caught in a small, sliding tray and easily removed. It also stands proud on secure little legs which, apart from doubling as a cable wrap, give it great stability. And with its lacquered cream and stainless steel finish, it looks a proper treat on my kitchen worktop. OK. Everyone will have their own criteria for the perfect toaster. These may differ from mine. As far as I am concerned, this one meets the bulk of mine and I just love it and find it very reliable. Highly recommend.

Smart looking and although the one I am using is the cream one, there seems to be a good range of colours for this model (grey, black & red) so you should get one to match your other kitchen accessories. The only real difference to the model I last used is that it has the 'lift and look' feature which I think most people would find useful to check on their toast without restarting the timer. Especially so in a household where everyone likes their toast 'done' slightly differently so the dial gets moved. As far as the 50% faster claim goes I really didn't notice any difference at all to my last toaster (supermarket's own model) which was a similar price. The flex on the Russel Hobbs is a little shorter too. This doesn't particularly matter to me though and neither does which side the crumb tray is...as long as there is one!!!I prefer the design/shape of this toaster, it looks a little classier and has longer slots, BUT the slots to put the bread in aren't as wide (see photo in comparison to a my last toaster)...and I'm rather partial to a toasted teacake! All in all it comes down to what is important to you and I think I might forgo the 'lift and look' for the wider slots if I had to choose.

This toaster is a lot faster than our old one, which wasn't actually that old when it went bang.It can toast things up to about an inch thick.Browning is even, except when you put only one slice in. Like every other toaster that we have had, toasting only one slice gives you one very brown side and one under-done side.It has a button to add just the right amount of extra time to toast a frozen slice of bread to your usual requirement. You can lift the lever to peep at your toast whilst it's toasting to check that it's OK - very useful and saves burning fingers. As the buttons are self-explanatory you might not bother with the instructions, but there is one important bit.You need to cure the heating elements first by running the toaster empty at top heat. You'll be sorry if you don't because this makes quite a strong smell, and I wouldn't fancy toast cooked in that. The smell is expected, but it does make you think that something electric is burning. The heavenly blue colour is a lovely pastel blue.I like it.

I have owned a few Russel hobbs toaster and currently still have a red 4 slice toaster. However this colour plus toaster seem to have some improved functions different from my previous toasters. The operative word being 'plus'. So this is a two slice toaster in dual color red and stainless steel as shown but also comes in other colors i.e. black, cream etc. The slots are wide so can take large slices of bread. It is inbuilt with fast heating elements to make for a 50% toasting time, I compared this with my existing toaster and it toasts faster by the estimated 50%. I basically put in bread in this toaster and my existing 4 slice Russell Hobs red toaster and started both at he same time this one finished in half the time it took the one to finish toasting.Another great feature is the lift and look feature, where you lift the toast to check without cancelling the toast cycle, so you can continue afterwards. It has variable browning control and it comes with 3 year guarantee.

I'm really quite enjoying using this toaster. It's a good bit better than my last one, but it doesn't give a perfect slice of toast.Available in four colours, this toaster will grace any style of kitchen and is very reasonably priced. It takes two slices of bread of just about any usual packet size, has a 'from frozen' function, can be stopped to have a look without having to re-set the timer and has a handy extra lift at the end if the bread/crumpets are too low after the toaster has popped up.The toast doesn't cook perfectly evenly, it seems to cook the outer edges more than the centre but for a toaster at this reasonable price I wouldn't expect perfect even toast. It toasts pretty quickly so that the toast is slightly bready on the inside rather than dried and biscuity. The only downside is that the outer walls of the toaster get rather warm. Not a particular problem for me but for some households where children might be using it they should take care.

A very straightforward toaster with a nice extra feature. The toaster itself is nice looking and does toast pretty quickly - certainly more quickly than my previous model. It also has a good sized slot, so you can actually get a proper full sized loaf slice in without having to flip it over half way through to avoid 'soft crust syndrome'.It happily takes my hand sliced bread too, as well as crumpets and pikelets. It does - as other reviewers have also noted - get quite hot in use, so I always switch it off after use, as I am certain my two cats will one day switch it on by accident and burn the house down! The 'lift and look' feature is genuinely useful - you can lift the toast up to check on progress without it cancelling the toast cycle. This is great for thick slices of home made bread, as the toasting time for this can vary a lot.Overall it is a good toaster. I would only draw your attention again to the heat generated in use.

I'm very happy with this toaster, as I expected to be, given the manufacturer's good name. I have had no problem at all, making toast to my own preferences. It is quicker than any toaster I have had in the past, and this caught me out once or twice at first, when I wasn't ready for the toast when it had finished. The supporting literature claims that it will deal with "all bread sizes", but the slots aren't quite big enough for a Scottish "plain" loaf, but the slots are wide enough for "toastie pockets", which is a relief, as the last one I had just couldn't deal with them. There are some useful features, such as an ability to toast bread from frozen, an easily accessible crumb tray, and a "lift and look" function which lets you check on how the toast is progreesing without interrupting the process. It's still perfectly simple to use, and gives great results, so I would have no hestitation in recommending this toaster.

This toaster has slots big enough to take a standard UK thick sliced bread with ease.Yes, it is 50% faster than my old one but it also uses 50%+ more electricity so it saves time but not electric energy. My old one uses 1060watts and takes 2m38s. This one for about the same browning uses 1690watts but takes 1m34sI checked the energy usage with a Energenie Power MeterI also found the toast seems to get "cooked" more at the bottom on all four sides (see my photo). One feature along with speed and reminds me of more classic / up market toasters is that the lift lever can be used during operation to see how the toast is doing without interrupting the timing cycle. You can then just press the stop button to turn the toaster off and eject the bread. The mains lead is just over 2ft / 62cm in length.Make sure you remove all the packing and sticky tape before use.

This toaster looks very smart and elegant, and I'm impressed by the value for money, as I have bought toasters that were a lot cheaper-looking and less durable for not much less than the cost of this toaster. It allows you to toast frozen bread as well as to check the progress of the toast without stopping it toasting - two features that are also present on my current Breville toaster, but again, that model cost a lot more. It claims to toast bread 50% than an average toaster - I'm not sure this is true, but it is quick. The downside of this function is that the toaster uses more power, and also that the outside of the toaster heats up during use. As others have said, this could be dangerous, and I'd rather it went a bit slower and that this design fault was removed. However, I would still recommend this product.

I'd been looking for a toaster for a while which could handle Aldi's bloomer loaves (15 x 10cm / 6" x 4" slices) without having to put the slices in sideways and leave a chunk untoasted for a while, and previously returned two from high street stores and one from here that couldn't.This toaster, however, can easily absorb the slices, and toasts them evenly on both sides (whereas many toasters tend to toast one side more than the other), also without the usual 'ladder' effect of better toasted rows in line with the elements. As described, it's also quicker than most toasters - yes, of course quicker toasting means a more powerful element which means a higher wattage, but it's likely the overall amount of energy use per slice is on a par with less powerful toasters that take longer to perform their task.

This is a good if basic little toaster.Being a 2 slice is perfect for those who live alone or small families who don't need a mountain of toast at mealtimes. The toaster is easy to use, produces a good crispy piece of toast and is easy to clean too.It offers quick toasting for those of us who are in a rush in the morning and you can stop and restart the toasting to check how things are going if you are waiting to dash out of the door with every second counting. The frozen setting works well and it allows various thickness of bread to be toasted. The beige looks good and there are a whole range of items in this colour if you want to match up your small kitchen appliances. It has a small footprintso won't take up too much worktop space and looks good. The lead is a decent length.

I bought this after I'd returned another brsnd of toaster because it wouldn't toast thin sliced bread in one go even at maximum setting. This toaster is much better in that regard but you have to choose the right setting otherwise it will burn the toast. It's very quick making toast and we're getting used to the required setting for each type of bread. A major bonus is that this toaster takes bigger pieces of bread sideways on so the toast is brown all over unlike some toasters where some loaves have to be put in upright so the top sticks out of the toaster. The slots are quite wide so it will take thick bread and probably crumpets as well but I haven't tried them yet. As described it has variable browning control,a cancel button, a frozen bread button and a crumb tray.

I have tested a number of toasters over the years and this is one of the best. It is incredibly fast, which is great when you are in a rush. The slot size is great and you can easily fit a thick/long slice in each slot. One of my pet peeves of old style toasters is not being able to look at how a slice of bread is doing, without ending the toasting cycle. With this toaster comes a feature where you can lift the toast up and see what it looks like, without interrupting the timing. As others have said, this is not a cool wall toaster, the external walls get very hot, so not ideal if you have children about.Overall this is a great toaster, it is a shame about the heat from the walls. With this in mind,I am happy to give it a cautious recommendation.

Had this a couple of weeks now and whilst I was concerned by many other toaster reviews (not specifically this model) that you can't actually fit a slice of bread into them this Russell Hobbs toaster has toasted every shape of bread thrown into it so far!The ease of checking how your toast is doing makes this useful as we are a fussy family when it comes to levels of toasting brownness. You do have to put your hand on the top/side of the toaster when checking the toast otherwise it does wander around the work surface.Altogether though this is a brilliant toaster, looks sleek and performs excellently and to my surprise doesn't show finger prints (unless you look very closely).
