The first thing you will notice is the weight of the iron itself, it really is ultra light so much so that it takes you by suprise. The water tank itself looks huge but the 1.8L water tank is simple to unclip from the base and easy to fill directly from the tap..no messing about with jugs of water Both steam hose and the power cable are long enough for any ironing board and both fit snuggly back into the base when not in use. There are two buttons at the back of the iron on/off and Eco and an indicator light which will light up when the water tank is almost empty. At the front is the knob to remove for descaling. Downside: The iron and base overall are big so need to find a big space to store .Ease of use: The iron really is so simple to use. Once filled with water and placed back on the base it takes only a couple of minutes to heat up and the light indicator tells you when it is ready to use. This gives ample time to get your ironing board ready ( previously you would have to set the board up THEN wait for the iron to reach the right temperature- minutes saved even before yoiu start!). There are no temparature controls to worry about or dials to fiddle with , the iron automatically adjusts itself to the right temparature. Quite simply if you want steam you press the handle and away you go. If you need more steam there is also a turbo setting and again this is simplicity itself, just press the handle quickly twice for a burst of steam and then once again to turn the turbo steam off. For less steam and to save energy you can use the ECO settings by pressing the button on the base of the water tank and again the steam is simply a click away as you require. Now to putting the iron straight onto your board in between items, at first I was a bit wary of this idea as was concerned mainly that it might slip or be knocked off the board, however the design of the iron itself and the length of he steam hose prevents this happening. After I had ironed a few items I loved this feature and wondered why all irons are not made like this. The iron also has an auto off function which will automatically activate if the iron has not been used for 10 minutes.Downside: You are using steam and so you will find windows etc will steam up, also the area below the ironing board can get damp with the steam if using for a long time. Performance: This was the real winner for me. The Philips Perfectcare Elite promises to save you time and give ultimate performance and I can absolutely say that this is fact. I tested an identical batch of clothing a mixture of all types of materials from my old jeans to a new silk scarf and was able to save a full 40 minutes by using the Philips iron.I also tested with quickly ironing an item needed for the day, i chose one of my sons shirts. In this test there was very little difference in time taken however the results when using the Elite iron were so much better particularly on cuffs and sleeves. In another test i ironed an linen tablecloth and then went straight to one of my work blouses and this worked perfectly even for the delicate detailing of the blouse. The linen tablecloth had always been a pain to iron but I found that particularly with the turbo steam function this was so much easier and results so much better. I have never tried vertical ironing before, but tested this on my living room curtain The Philips Perfectcare Elite however is so light and easy to use that I actually really enjoyed this and the results made my curtains look like new again. Downside: The steam hose does get very hot and so you do need to take care particularly when vertical ironing. In conclusion the Philips PerfectCare Elite iron is so easy to use and delivers on all the promises it makes and I can highly recommend this Iron. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

We are a family of four and every Sunday I spend between 2-3 hours ironing and to be honest I hate it. The worst bit usually running out of steam or my iron coughing up bits on lime scale on a nice white shirt and adds more time to the deadly chore.Sadly, I am now slightly in love with an oversized iron. OK that's probably one of the cons, its pretty big and wont fit on a standard sized ironing board comfortably. I initially had reservations about sitting it on the floor. However, it was fine and the cord is long enough for it to reach but it does mean bending down to put the iron back on the dock if you need to sit it down as it has no heel to stand up on its own.The instructions are very clear, even for the impatient! the Optimal Temp technology does all the adjusting of temperature for you, I loved this and did not miss messing about with the dial of my old iron! There is a lock feature to prevent the iron from being knocked off the dock which is good if your ironing board can accommodate the whole thing. My current ironing board isn't really advanced enough for my machine. However, that didn't stop me as the cable is long enough to use it whilst the dock is on the floor. I just wished it had a heel so I could put it down safely in between items without having to bend down and dock it. I know due to the optimal temp you can leave it down on the board without it burning, but this just felt a bit wrong! My brain could not get used to the idea that it wouldn't burn!! I did try it and it really didn't burn but I was worried about it slipping off my ironing board. Now vertical ironing! yes, dresses and jackets ironed in moments! The little silver glove is great and prevents you from burning your skin whilst doing so. I was pleased with the results of a jersey dress. If I am honest I usually leave to hang dry, but I used the vertical iron on this and it did look must better. The eco setting, amazing! No more trips back and forth to the kitchen to get more water or a tea towel to clean up the spills on the ironing board. The iron is big but it needs to be to hold the water its a sound trade off for me!Turbo... OK I use this setting most of the time, and I literally cut my own ironing time by an hour. My husband also cut his time considerably, I no longer felt my irritation of him spending 2 hours ironing 5 shirts when it took me 1 hour to do 10 lots of school uniforms and my own clothes! So turbo is a feature I wouldn't give up, even if it does steam up my windows!!! Cleaning, no problems whatsoever, really simple. Unlike my old iron which I would be scrubbing in between items to remove stuff off it! I guess that's where the optimal temp really helps... no more scorching! This iron might be big and need a larger living space than my old iron, but it is certainly more powerful and all the items I have ironed have looked professionally done. I don't usually fuss over school uniforms but even pleated pinafores and white shirts come up a treat with minimal work! The manual is really easy to read and the troubleshooting tips are helpful [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Philips GC9642/60 PerfectCare Elite SilenceSteam Generator Iron, 1.8 L, 7.2 BarColour ChampagneHaving recently registered with Philips product testing and being lucky enough to get to test one of their steam irons. Yay May I just begin with..I have never been a fan of steam irons a bit of a cheek really as we have ever only had one other to compare this one with, that being said…We have always had on average 1 - 3 general use irons every 2 years, as they seem to burn out (no pun intended) very quickly after use IMO. We generally used these on a Sunday while preparing for the week ahead. My wife was converted from the word go but I never seemed to switch from the basic irons which we always bought (might I add I still did due to me not conforming to the switch.Alas, our new steam generator iron eventually died as a result, I was avidly looking for a replacement. When I stumbled upon the testing program mentioned above. Unboxing the iron from the box it was clear, the difference in quality from its predecessor was like night and day. The iron definitely has a classy look with sleek design features, which I will move on to promptly.• The instructions - to get set up is so easy you can be up and running in no time at all. • The iron has very few settings needing adjustment, IMO that is one of the greatest things about this, if like me, I am for want of a better word, a newbie when it comes to the sparkle and glitter of the iron world this definitely is a selling point. • The Iron has a detachable tank, so saves on the little bottle refills, around a dozen or so trips to the tap in our case. • The fact there is no temperature wheel to confuse is great for when you have a delicate item on the board and forget to change the settings (The no burn technology) is fantastic! The plate is only ever hot enough for the most delicate of fabrics which suits my wife just fine. • The iron comes equipped with storage for both the steam and power cords, neatly keeping them out the way ingenious!• The locking system that the iron comes with, I was very wary of at first, being such a light iron, the first time I tried it, I held it up with my hand underside just in case but it held the weight just fine. • When the iron is on a blue light flashes while the iron is heating up for use, when this has completed the blue light is constant and a sound indicates its readiness. Additionally if left on the device turns off after 10 minutes with safety in mind very handy, I am sure, as we all have done so at some point. • This iron is definitely quieter than our previous iron, which seemed to constantly be bubbling or gurgling away earning this irons claim without a doubt silent! • The iron itself as fore mentioned is very lightweight which makes for ease as it glides through your ironing pile effortlessly. • The built in reminder for the decalcify process is also clever keeping the iron from clogging up especially in hard water areas, the fact there is no need for replacement cartridges is also an added bonus [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

As someone who has worked as a presser in a dry cleaners I can certainly say that this is a quality iron that gives professional results in less time than with my old steam generator iron. Granted it is more expensive but than my previous iron but I feel the extra outlay is well worth the time and effort saved. The iron itself is lightweight and easy to use. It is much lighter in the hand than my old steam generator which does make a difference when on an epic weekly ironing session. The iron is extremely responsive and is able to generate steam very quickly from start up. The steam is powerful and what I like most is that the steam is dry (if you know what I mean). My old iron used to draw water though and left the clothing ever so slightly damp, this one doesn't. The powerful steam cuts through thick items like jeans with ease. Before I would need to iron both sides of clothes to get rid of the creases, now I only need to iron one side to get the same results. This means I am doing less ironing for the same results. Winner! The sole-plate of the iron is great quality and it glides across different fabrics with ease and has a good shape. I also like that you no longer need to worry about the temperature setting of the iron as it will handle different fabrics without having to adjust the temperature. The iron can also be left on the ironing board whilst you are moving the clothes around and you wont burn the ironing board. This just takes a bit of getting used to as I am used to standing the iron up on the board which I keep trying to do (old habits die hard), I am slowly getting used to just siding the iron to one side and no doubt it will be second nature soon. The iron also has great safety features, it will auto switch off after about 3mins of none use which will also save energy. The iron also locks securely into the base which means that it is easy to pick up and move the entire unit. Any downsides? just one, the base is bigger and heavier than my old steam generator so you might need to also buy a better ironing board which is more robust and stable with a decent steam generator platform to support the size/weight.Would I recommend - its a definite YES. It really does reduce the time you spend ironing which to me is priceless. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I honestly can’t believe the ease and speed of using this, my ironing time has been cut by at least an hour a week. This iron is super easy to set up – the water tank easily comes out so you don’t need to carry the whole thing together while full; just set up the iron and then fill your water tank. The water tank is a good size and one tank gets me through three loads of washing in one go with water to spare. It takes just a couple of minutes for the unit to heat, and has a safety mechanism that switches it off if left unused (I think for 10 mins). The cable can get warm, but it never gets hot so don’t be alarmed if you feel it heating up.The glory of this iron is that it uses one temperature for all items – amazing! No more trying to do my ironing in order of what temperature the item needs, just whatever I grab out of the basket next. I was slightly nervous using it on a ‘low temp’ item, but I needn’t have been as it glided over the garment with ease. The cable length is great, and the iron can be left on the ironing board (or the base) with no risk of burning any fabric. There are two steam options – either press the button as you need it, or double press to put it on continuous steam. I find I don’t need to use continuous steam very often as just a few pumps of single steam is enough. The iron itself is superb – the tip is super pointed to allow you to get into the trickiest of steams and ensure every inch is smoothed. It is really light, and I find it glides rather than feeling like I’m having to really push it over my clothes which I did with my previous iron. My only slight downside is the noise from the steam (turning the tv up a few notches when it is on) but I will take a little bit of noise in exchange for a much improved, faster ironing experience! To conclude, I would describe using this as effortless. As one of my least favourite household tasks this product has really made a difference and definitely saved me time every week. I am so thankful for the day it arrived – I just wished I’d gotten it sooner! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

To say I'm impressed is an understatement! Set up is really easy: you switch the iron on and by the time you fill the water tank, the iron beeps to indicate it is ready to use.My usual ironing routine is spending about 2 hours (average of 10 min per item) once a week, ironing 2 mens shirts, 3 school dresses, 4 school shirts and maybe a top or skirt for me and I used to hate it.This iron has changed my life!I used to only iron wet clothes but I can honestly say it makes little difference whether they are wet or dry when using this iron.I even timed myself ironing different items and it is way less than 10min per item:- wet pleated school dress: 4 min- dry short sleeve men shirt 3 min,40 sec- dry long sleeve men shirt 5 min, 20 secThis might sound strange, but the fact that you can leave the iron face down on the ironing board, saves so much time! You can return it to the base unit as well and I can even lock it in place with one hand. The product description mentions smart steam technology and that you do not need to hold the steam button in, however, I got so spoilt with how amazing and quick the steam function made the ironing, I kept getting a little trigger happy!Other amazing features are:- you never have to change temperature settings when switching from one type of material to the next as it does that automatically and it promises no burns. After 2 weeks of use, I can confirm there were no burns and I ironed a range of materials. Negatives:This item is bulky (to be expected from such a magnificent steam machine!) so you really need space in a cupboard to store it away when not in use.It would have been the absolute perfect iron if the iron was wireless from the base unit. The cord pushes into the base unit when not in use and you have to fold it in half to push it in. That does make me slightly nervous for future fraying of the cord. But those are minor niggles. All in all an absolutely amazing, powerful, steam machine! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I absolutely love this iron - it has saved me so much time and effort since I have bought it. Initially, I was skeptical about the claim that the iron would not burn clothing, or the ironing board if it was left sitting on it. However even the pair of trousers which my old iron burned, even when turned down to the lowest temperature, were not damaged when I ironed them with this iron. I have also left it sat on the ironing board while I folded one item of clothing and picked up another, without any issues. The iron itself has a great design. It is lightweight and glides well across clothing, and the button to produce steam is in the perfect position - under the handle. The constant steam feature is fantastic for getting creases out of clothing, and means that you don't always have to iron both sides of a garment. The base of the iron has a large water tank, which means I haven't had to re-fill it while ironing. It also has a lock to keep the iron in place, which is a fantastic safety feature, as you do not have to worry about knocking the iron and having it fall off the base. It would also be great for families with young children, as they would not be able to knock it off the base, or pick it up and injure themselves. The only issues I have found with the iron is that the base is bulky and heavy, and I have found it difficult to use the storage space for the cables - it took several minutes to unravel them initially, and returning them to the storage space was a bit difficult too, so I have stopped putting them back in. Overall, it's a brilliant iron - it cuts down ironing time, reduces arm strain due to the iron being lightweight, it's really easy to use, and it never burns your clothes. I have been recommending it to all my family and friends. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

My Sunday morning routine typically involves picking a couple of films to watch and setting up camp in the back room to iron a weeks worth of office and casual wear for my husband and I, and 2 active high teenagers.I don't want to sound dramatic but I LOVE this iron, its given me so much more freedom to enjoy my weekends instead of wasting an entire morning trapped in a cloud of steam.I'd suggest reading the instructions thoroughly before you begin so you are confident in the transition between fabrics - I spent quite a while needlessly worrying that I was going to burn the delicate's, in reality it was a faultless transition.I completed over 4 washing baskets of clothes in less time than it takes to watch a film. There was a noticeable improvement in my quality of ironing (my kids noticed and they barely acknowledge anything) and my husband likened it to having his collars starched.I had to refill the tank mid way through, but that is due to the sheer volume I was attempting to get through, I think if you had an average load this wouldn't be an issue whatsoever. It takes a little time to warm up but the time you save not having to adjust the temperate constantly between garments definitely makes up for it.The Iron itself is very lightweight and you can leave it face down on the ironing board and it adjusts the temperate so it doesn't burn which is excellent. I even ironed the sheets on my bed and the heavy bedroom curtains and I can honestly say I was really impressed.I wouldn't hesitate to buy this product again; not only has it improved the quality of my ironing but has saved me a such a vast amount of time. After unboxing this amazing iron i instantly noticed all leads have a good lengths from socket to iron and from the base to iron handle then upon picking up is very light weight. The base of the ironing plate is shaped very well and irons from baby cloths to bed sheets within seconds with extremely smooth movement across all types of garments. After using this iron everyday for the large house hold for a week there are personal issues one being the water container could do with being bigger and i also ironing in low level lighting of an evening and the light on the handle is to bright to see the garments so need a full light on.On the brighter side this iron will never run without water As thewater gets to the minimum line it cuts the steam out until you refill it which is very affective.Another excellent easy to use and change feature is the power steam for heavily creased items and works well for vertical steaming like curtains. The iron lock is easy to use and very handy strong and doesn't make to iron any taller like other brands so keeps the iron small to store. The fact you can leave the iron on the ironing board rather than having to put it back on the base due to the optimal temperature technology is a massive help so when my baby is climbing up things and falling over i can go straight to him rather than worry about putting it back. Overall this iron is an extremely easy to use light weight good looking item and i would recommend anyone to invest in it it actually makes ironing so much more enjoyable. The whole family are now helping out with the ironing as it is so easy and a pleasure to use. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I love a light iron, that isn't too dear but works well. What I didn't realise is this iron completely changed my opinion, not only does it leave shirts crisper, trousers straighter, it cuts my time ironing by at least 30 mins, I iron a lot with two teenagers and two adults. The iron is really light and glides with perfection, no crease is safe. The high capacity water filled base, saves the countless trips to refill and lasts the entire ironing pile and then some. I've never been bowled over by an iron, to me it's just an iron. But this has astounded me at the ease of use, and how clean the creases are, the even last when hung or folded. It is big and definitely suited to the mother's weekly ironing basket that always seems to over flow, but guaranteed you will have a new love of ironing after only one use. I love Philips for irons and swear by the brand, and this is no different but it's probably the best iron I've ever used by Philips with amazing features, fantastic steam out put, the smooth glide plate and the best bit the iron is light enough for my wrists, no strain and no pain. This may cost more than the £50-100 iron you may be used to buying but it will save you overall in time and electric and its so robust that I'm certain in a good few years it will still be doing the best job possible. Definitely not a disappointment and my new favorite hobby is using this iron and reducing the basket, I've even ironed things you wouldn't normally iron, I've enjoyed the ease of use so much.Totally recommend this as a purchase for any household. I am very pleased and happy with my Iron Steam Generator. This is my first Steam Generator it was shot in a decade. When it arrive I saved up 3 lots of bedding and it was a pleasure to do. It is great that it has a large water tank but also that it doesn't seem to "drink" the water like my other irons and I am not constantly topping up. My shirts look great too and so easy to iron. This iron definitely makes ironing easier. Also useful is the cable tidy which retracts into the body as well as being able to store the steam tube within the body. With cable and steam tube stowed away then the unit is a much neater package to store without tubes or wires or both everywhere. This iron is 100% superb to use and gives excellent results, cuts ironing time by about 60% from my old iron, and gives much better results than a traditional shot-of-steam iron. The automatic cut off (if you leave/wander away from it for a little while...as I have a tendancy to do) is a very reassuring safety addition. The large water holding capacity is so good no irritation at refilling it too often. Can't comment on the de-scale aspect yet as I haven't had it long enough (used for a few months) . I wish I had this iron it ages ago! So happy with this iron. From sheets to shirts it give a great finish in less time than an ordinary iron. It’s worth investing in a steam generator if you regularly iron a lot of laundry and large items, such as duvet covers and sheets. They’re also worth considering if your priority is to get through the ironing as quickly as possible. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Prior to this amazing steam generator, I used to spend the whole day catching up with my ironing, which I love nonetheless, however, now, it only takes me couple of hours, I simply wiz through my pile of ironing in no time!School uniforms, pleated skirts, husbands never ending shirts, delicates etc... with this wonderful steam generator I only need one slide on a garment and all the crases are gone, I can refill water at any time (old steam generators didn’t have that option, you had to switch it off and wait for it to coll down before refilling water compartment), for more stubborn creases there is turbo steam option that definitely will wiz through and leave (normally cotton shirts) crease free, also, the heat proof glove, allows you to delicately steam any delicates with out any trouble...I cannot emphasis how wonderful this Philips steam generator is, I simply could not imagine my life with out it, as ironing compared to now, was a chore and I wasn’t even aware of it. Price: I believe for what it is and what it does and how well it does it, I would pay higher price without hesitation!Having children around the house, locking system is a blessing, no child will knock it accidentally, nor anyone will get burned. Size is perfect, cable length is perfect, stand by option is fab, I can leave iron on ironing board for longer than few minutes with out worrying that it will burn etc.. The actual iron/plate is light, very easy to manoeuvre, glides beautifully on any garment and is simply the best iron I have ever tried and owned. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The steam iron of my dreams! If like me you have damaged so many irons because you got the temperature wrong or left it face down on the board this is the one for you. So easy to use and manage, the water tank will provide ample steam to get you through most ironing sessions with ease, while the amazing technology this iron uses will glide you through your ironing pile quickly and the extra long power cable is such a help. Top features for me are;Not having to worry about burning items or the ironing board cover thanks to the 'OptimalTEMP Technology', this guarantees no burn, even going from ironing a delicate silk item to jeans or leaving the ironplate on the board - this blew my mind!No worry about adjusting the temperature as the constant steam keeps all your items safe. The time saved by not sorting the ironing pile means I get more done and I'm not bored halfway through because with this it takes half the time to complete so I'm getting it all done in one session.I love the powerful steam generator, vertical streaming has never been easier and quicker, there were items in my wardrobe I'd pretty much given up on wearing again because ironing was such a pain I used the vertical steam (using the extra steam by pressing the button in the handle) and was able to wear my clothes again! Items, I've always been petrified to put an iron near like football shirts I steam with ease! Curtains, suits, awkward items, all covered by the fantastic steam generator! This iron totally changed the way I look at ironing, highly recommended by everyone in the house.

I was asked to test & review the Philips PerfectCare Elite Steam Generator Iron an I can honestly say that it has been a pleasure to use. I have been using the iron for about three weeks now. I usually iron for about an hour several times a week. The iron is very easy to use only having three buttons. It took a little longer to heat up than other irons I have used but this is understandable considering the large water tank which holds up to 1.8 litres. I was also surprised at how loud it sounded while the water was heating up. Ironing was a breeze! The iron glided over everything very smoothly. From creased jeans to work shirts, football strips to king size duvet covers. It is easy to get a burst of steam when needed or keep the steam on with the turbo function for larger or heavier items. The iron worked just as well on Eco mode. My favourite feature to this iron is being able to put the iron plate down on the ironing board without burning it. Especially since the iron base is too large to fit on the ironing board. It also works very well on hanging garments. I hung a dress in a hanger and was easily able to remove the creases with a quick burst of steam from the iron. Descaling the iron was easy too. I waited until the morning after I’d ironed so it was cold. The knob was easy to turn and remove to drain the scaley water & equally easy to replace. Only once during my whole time of ironing have I had to stop and top up the water tank, this has saved me lots of time. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

On first impressions whilst taking the iron out of the box, I was very happy to find that the iron was ready to be used with no bits to place together. The iron is very impressive to look at with it's sleek lines and beautiful design. The iron has a lock which keeps it in place and avoid it slipping off, it also has an extra large tank which holds a maximum of 1.8l . The cable can be put away very easily reducing the space that it takes up . As it has a large tank, it is quite heavy when full and I would recommend picking it up with two hands. Into the ironing itself, the iron takes 2 minutes to heat up and beeps when it is ready to be used. I have to admit I was very apprehensive about not having a temperature gauge,it goes against every rule I follow! But no .......... it works! The way the iron can sense the fabric is amazing . I went from denim to cotton to polyester and the iron glided over each one with ease . The time that it saves with it having to faff about with a temperature gauge is worth it . The steam is powerful and allows you the boost that is needed for those stubborn creases. If the steam button is pressed twice in quick succession, a continuous stream of steam comes out . To stop press the button once more .Theres is an eco mode which uses less steam but I am not sure how this works as I have not used. I would 100 percent recommend this iron, it is the bees knees !
