I really really like this coffee machine!I have found it to meet all of the manufacturers claims, each feature has worked exactly as it was supposed to and the coffee it produced was excellent.Machine.The machine looks very sleek and elegant with its brushed steel finish and modern styling. The water tank to the rear of the machine is removable for cleaning and filling ( though you can simply remove the cover to fill if you prefer) and holds 12 cups of water. The front of the machine has a very modern look and features 8 buttons which are used for programming - this does look a little complicated at first glance, but it is actually very simply and intuitive to use. The display screen is nice and clear, displaying the time and programme which has been selected when it is in use, when it is not in use it switches itself off.The carafe is a good size and is clearly marked on the side with cup measurements, taking the guess work out of filling to the desired level. The top of the machine lifts off completely toallow it to be filled and is a good wide size making this nice and easy.UseWhile the amount of buttons on the front give the impression that things are going to be complicated they really are not. The option button guides you through the programmes, each choice being clearly displayed on the screen for you to select. You can very easily programme this machine to make coffee at whatever time you desire with the auto start feature( it is great to come down stairs to a freshly brewed pot each morning!) and the machine will keep it warm for you for about 40 mins before switching itself off.A full pot of coffee on the slower stronger aroma setting took 12 minutes from flicking the switch to the beep at the end to tell me it was done.Special features. You can choose your preferred coffee strength with the aroma button- what this does is vary the amount of time the water sits in the grind - longer means a stronger brew, shorter weaker which means you can make your coffee how you like every time, or perhaps vary the strength as the day wears on and you get closer to bedtime. The machine has a water filter in the tank, this means that you are making coffee with the very best water you can as all the impurities are filtered out to leave you with a nice clean brew with all the undesirables of standard tap water removed. The machine has a gold permanent filter to hold the grinds, this means that there is no nasty plastic taste which comes from the plastic filters of cheaper models and really does make a big difference. If you want to use filter papers ( which I do) to help with the cleaning a standard filter paper sits nicely in this filter and allows the water to filter through perfectly well. The warming plate has a choice of how warm you want your coffee keeping and switched itself off after about 40 mins to keep things nice and safe should you forget about it.The non drip feature is good, no coffee comes out if you remove the carafe, but if it is actively brewing and you remove the carafe it has to be replaced before 30 seconds is up or it will over flow as the hot water is not stopped and is still pumped to the grinds.Cleaning.Cleaning is nice and easy thanks to the removable parts, you are not supposed to soak the carafe in water ( it would get into the handle and behind the silver tensioning band which holds the handle in place), but this is easy to wipe clean and rinse- it is not like it is going to get burnt on food on it after all!The outer body wipes clean with a soft cloth and the brushed steel effect means that fingerprints aren't obvious.Quirks.The measurements on the carafe do not seem to match with the measurements on the water tank, if I fill the carafe to the 10 cups level, it shows as 9 cups on the water tank. The coffee grinds seem to hold a lot of water on the stronger aroma choice, I filled the carafe to the 10 cups level, which was 9 cups on the tank and this produced just over 7 cups of strong coffee at the end of the brewing. The water filter will need replacing after around two months, these can be bought direct from the AEG website for £36 for 6 plus postage costs. This is quite expensive but I actually think that this cost is worth it, ( I also use a filter jug for tap water, which are expensive too) because of the improvement in the taste, but this is something to consider. I have never yet had a warning that the filter needs changing and regularly use a water filter over the 60 uses, the quality of the coffee dips a little, but not dramatically and if it is a tight month it helps me stretch the pennies a little further. The time is in 24 hour clock- I made the school boy error of assuming it was the 12 hour clock and had a steaming hot pot of strong coffee made for me at 7pm rather than 7 am on my first test run!So for me I would rank this machine at 4 and a half stars ( no half star available so had to give 5) it losing the half star for the anomaly between the water measurements on the carafe and the water tank.Lastly an earlier review says it came with a continental plug... mine did not, it was the standard 3 pin plug and was ready to "plug and play" straight from the box.**** Amazon actually sell the filters currently priced at a little under 20 quid, so obviously a bit cheaper than buying direct.. if you want them search for AEG APaF6 Frischwasserfilter for AEG, KF5300 KF5700 KF7800 KF7900***********************AEG APaF6 Frischwasserfilter for AEG, KF5300 KF5700 KF7800 KF7900, and

This is a very, very nice coffee filter machine; a top of the range, high quality example of the 'basic' filter concept of water-tank, carafe and hot-plate. I've found it to have some bells and whistles, which rather than being superfluous features are actually really useful and welcome. It is a nice design in general and some thought and research has obviously been put into it.What I really like about it: It looks stunning. It looks expensive and high-tech. It feels solidly built. The control panel on the lower front, although small, is of a very high quality for a coffee machine. The metal buttons feel great and the display is a high definition and easy to read. From the panel, several useful features can be accessed: adjusting the temperature of the hotplate (3 settings), timer, aroma (strength setting which slows or accelerates the filter process) and a self-clean program which is recommended on first use.It is narrow, being only slightly wider than the jug, and so doesn't take up too much space on the worktop. A really neat feature is the detachable water tank which can make filling a lot easier, although it isn't necessary to remove it every time. It also uses a filter (optional) which last a couple of months (normal use?) and aren't too expensive on Amazon as I type. It is fairly quiet, as are most filter machines, though I have used some noisy ones. The carafe is easy to lift from the machine with little or no effort, it comes away very smoothly indeed. A conical filter is welcome as it makes it easier to use filter papers instead of the permanent one provided (I dislike bucket-shaped filters). And it makes really nice coffee with no unusual taste, which I guess is its primary function! What I don't like: Most of what I don't like are minor annoyances. The clock has no memory. When the machine is switched off, it forgets the time. For a machine costing this much I think this is pretty poor and sadly not uncommon amongst expensive filter machines. I don't want to leave this switched on all the time. The power chord is a little on the short side so I've had to rearrange things a bit in order to have the machine located close to the socket. Mine arrived with a significant dent in the front of the lid above the lip which would have made me send it back had I paid for it rather than chose it on Amazon Vine.Would I pay a bit extra for a quality device like this? Well, I'm giving it five stars but it my experience one is lucky to get more than a couple of years out of such a machine, even quality brands, as reliability with the hot-plate is often a weak aspect. If you're looking for the best in simple filter machines they probably don't get much better than this.

Steve Jobs loved AEG products, and having been given one of these I can see why. It's sleek, an almost beautiful bit of industrial design. Unboxing you see that AEG have gone to great lengths to preserve the looks in transit as it come mummified in layers of cling film, foam and cardboard. Once set up and figured out it then proceeds to make great cups of filter coffee. Incidentally it came with a fitted UK plug, not a continental plug as other reviews have mentioned. But this is why it get four stars, not five. It comes with reasonable documentation, but not everything is quite obvious at first. For example, the lid over the filter on my sample was really stiff.Really stiff - and having almost snapped the hooks on the rear (see below) I was timid about forcing it in case there was some locking mechanism holding it down. Turns out it was just very stiff, no locks, but the manual wasn't any help. The manual also isn't a huge help when it comes to removing the clear water container at the rear. This unclips by pulling it up first then forward - there's two hooks holding it in place. Pull it forward too forcefully and I can see them breaking off.Actually having a removable water container in the rear isn't as helpful as you would imagine, it means that you have to pull the machine forward and around a bit to fill it. Not long after first using it I just filled it by removing the lid.The water container contains a small water filter, rated at 60 cycles before needing replacement. Since I assume that's full loads of water I shall ignore it's pleas for replacement for sometime yet. Incidentally, spares are available from Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/AEG-Frischwasserfilter-KF5300-KF5700-KF7800/dp/B00JE4Z4D6/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1434710187&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=AEG+KF7800+filter) at a reasonable price.Brewing is automatic. Load the machine with water and ground coffee. Push the brew button and just wait for the ping as it switches to a warm mode. There's an aroma setting which lengthens the brew time that I recommend. Rinsing the permanent filter is a doddle, although you can use paper filters if you wish. It also comes with a timer, so you can set it up to give you freshly brewed coffee in the morning... ..bliss!

Fantastic machine. If you use paper filters with the existing filter, you can then just throw the paper filter and coffee after each brew. Means the filter that comes with the machine is clean! No mess no fuss.. Works beautifully once I realised I need to press auto brew twice each night to get the pre-set timer that I set, so that at 7.15 the machine starts, and waking up to freshly brewed coffee is a dream! No more black sink or scooping out coffee from a ceramic pot I had. No more getting up and faffing around with coffee and washing, boiling the kettle etc etc.... Now the smell of freshly brewed coffee is a magnificent start to the day.I recommend pressing the aroma button to full bean!and the temp to hot. This equals a perfect cup of coffee... The machine is a sleek and beautiful design and I have to say brilliant! It beeps 3 times when it's ready and takes roughly 15 mins to fully brew a 10 cup amount. This gives about 4 or 5 big cups or mugs worth.. What can I say.... it's wonderful!!!!!

I'm very pleased with this one. My old coffee machine just had an on/off switch and that was all, this one is a bit fiddly to set up, but once it's done, it makes great coffee and it looks smart.First of all you need to set up the time (so you can use the delay option and have your coffee freshly brewed when ever you need it), select coffee strength and it's done. What I like the most is that it has a permanent filter, so no need for extra purchases of filters and the addition of water filter is a nice touch too. Water container is removable, so you can either fill it in, or use the jug. When the water runs out it bleeps and the display goes dark after few minutes. There is a clean option for de-calcifying.It looks good, it's easy to use and coffee tastes great. Recommended.

This aeg kf78000 is ok for the price it's at now .however please not it only comes with 1replacable water filter and it will need changing every 60 days or 60 brews .they are available from Amazon aeg apaf6 is the part no and you can't find them cheaper a way round replacing the filter is to use a Britta water jug to fill it .the auto off function cannot be overridden but if you make enough coffee it will keep hot for up to about 40 mins after the auto off which seems to be set at about 50 minits .the is the new eu standard you will now find I am told on all new products ie coffee makers

Why buy this one instead of another machine? I really don't know. All I can confirm is that this one works. It's pretty much idiot proof. The timer is easy to set and it's quick to brew. It keeps the coffee warm in the jar for 20 minutes after it's been made. The filter is washable and can be (expensively) replaced.
