I did my research before buying a coffee machine and after reading hundreds of reviews I chose the Melitta Optima Timer model. Still nervous when it arrived (you can never be certain when you buy online!) I set it up quickly and was definitely not disappointed. The black model looks REALLY expensive - very classy indeed.I'm fussy about my coffee and read a few reviews saying this model brews too quickly - well yes it does brew quickly, but my coffee is still strong and smooth so absolutely no complaints there. The timed hot-plate is fab for me as I like to leave gaps in between cups - I've set mine to keep it hot for an hour and it does keep it piping hot.The timer function is fab (especially when I want hot coffee waiting for me when I get back from the gym!)and to be honest, for the price, I absolutely can't find anything bad to say about this gorgeous little machine. I was maybe a bit surprised at the small-ish size of the pot - but at the end of the day, it holds as much as the water tank will take, so what you see is what you get.I also read that one or two people (and that's literally only one or two, out of loads of positive reviews) had trouble with the machine just 'stopping' after a couple of months - so I've kept the packaging just in case I have to send it back - but I've had it about 3 weeks now and so far so good - the coffee is excellent. If you're umming and arring about this machine, I'd recommend you just buy it. I think it's fab.Final note - I have no idea why there's so much drama on here about the size of filters this machine takes. I bought the Melitta 1/4 size and they're a perfectly snug fit - no issues whatsoever.

I recieved one of these as a wedding gift so thought I'd give it a review.I am completely new to using a coffee machine. I've always been into kettle and instant coffee so excuse me if I sound like I have no clue! The water tank is really easy to fill up as it's small and slots in very easily. I've found the measurements a bit off though. Where it says it makes 2 mugs of coffee it's more like 1 and a half standard cups so I always add a little more water than I need. The coffee filter part slides out and is removable to clean and so very simple to put a filter and the coffee in. I'm still coming to grips with how much coffee to water I should add but getting the hang of it!It brews relatively quickly though the timer function I think just has one time you can set on it.The instructions don't say if I can time it more than once and haven't been able to see how to add an extra timer which is a bit of a pain as my husband and I wake at different times in the morning. Not sure if other coffee makers have this function or not though but as it's pretty quick to brew it's not too much of an issue.I've found that the water isn't very hot when drinking though. As i'm used to a kettle I'm used to boiling hot water when making a coffee and this machine makes it a little colder for my liking. I have to drink it straight away or it's far too cold to drink. Not sure if this is because i'm doing something wrong though or if that's just the way its brewed.Otherwise it's a very handy machine and very much enjoying having a delicious cup of coffee at home.

Makes a lovely cup of coffee, and is easy and clean to use. Some people seem confused about how long it'll keep the pot warm for. I believe it's 30 minutes by default, but there's an option to change that. I have it set to 90 minutes, and it works just fine. I've knocked a star off for two reasons - one, the device has a very useful 'no drip' feature that cuts the flow of liquid into the pot off when you remove it. But even if left until it looks like all the coffee has passed into the pot, there can often be a drip on to the hot plate when you take the pot out. It's hardly the end of the world to give it a quick wipe, but it means the feature isn't quite working as it should. And two,the (102 size) filters can be a bit tricky to get hold of, at least here in the UK. I haven't been able to find them in most of the supermarkets I've been to, for example. You can either buy more standard sizes and tear a bit off, or I'd recommend finding an online supplier and buying a load of them. Shop around a bit for prices. Those two slight niggles aside, I think it's a great machine, and would happily recommend it.

I've had quite a few coffee machines over the years and can honestly say that this is the best coffee machine I've owned... until it stopped working. The machine was used daily and worked perfectly for 9 months but then just stopped working. The power indicator and clock illuminated but the machine would not pump the water through and the hotplate remained cold. There are some similar reviews on here so I'm guessing that this is a common fault with this machine, but this is not what you expect from a quality Melitta product (and they are not cheap). Amazon have issued a refund and I have ordered another one of these coffee machines as they really do produce excellent coffee, but let's hope that the replacement machine lasts longer than 9 months. I will update this review if I have problems with coffee machine number two.Update 21/04/2019: Coffee machine number two stopped working after 6 months. Exactly the same fault as coffee machine number one. I will be contacting Amazon for a refund this time as there is clearly a fault with these coffee machines and they are not built to last. Very disappointed.

It deserves the good reviews it has. Works well and efficiently. There's just the two of us but in my opinion it would easily make enough coffee for four people, assuming normal size mugs with milk added. In any case it provides coffee pretty quickly so only a little delay even if you had to run it twice. One point: the coffee maker comes in a choice of black or white. I chose black but in retrospect I would have opted for the white model, simply for the reason that as the glass container is against the machine's black background it's slightly hard to see when the black coffee has finished filtering into the container. Against a white background it would be much easier. You can program the machine to make coffee at the exact time you want, although we've never used that, and a light illuminates to tell you when the machine needs descaling. It takes filter papers that, personally, I prefer (rather than a mesh filter) as it's easy and totally non-messy to remove the filter paper with the used coffee and dispose of it. All in all, a well designed product that does what it says and does it well.

Like most coffee lovers I like to enjoy my coffee and not think about if the coffee will be hot for the next cup. This machine allows you to keep coffee hot for anything up to 2 hours.Like most purchasers I read the previous reviews before buying, so much so that I measured the volume of my cup before buying. My mugs are about 350ml and I can just get 3 mugs out of this machine. I have a lot of size 4 paper filters and have used this thus far, with no issues, even though they are a little big.I can confirm that the auto shut off works very well, no little leaks onto the hot plate. The machine seems quite sturdy and I wish I had spent the extra before buying my cheaper machine.I have not used the hardness function as I use only filtered water, but there is the option to change the water hardness level. I have not done anything about this yet, but I will do over time.If i have any gripes about this machine its the size of the reservoir and the carafe, I would have liked it to be about 50/100ml bigger.I would strongly recommend this machine to all coffee lovers.

Finally a Filter Coffee Machine at a "reasonable" Price that makes piping hot coffee! I bought this after a bad experience with a cheaper unit, where the coffee was barely warm, and in no way could be called hot. At least not when you compare it with the coffee you get in outlets such as Starbucks and Costa Coffee. With this unit, if you leave the coffee to filter and then sit for perhaps 5-10 mins, you get piping hot coffee. hot enough to burn you if you spill it, just like you get on the high street! It also allows you to change the default time of the hot plate, so you can increase it above the default half an hour if you so wish. The other cheaper unit I tried was fixed at 30 mins, blaming EU laws for this!I've been using this unit for two months now and am happy to recommend it, if you like your coffee hot! if it doesn't work like this then send it back as it must be faulty.

Very quick delivery. The coffee machine is simply awesome: keeps coffee VERY hot for 30 minutes by default (but it can be changed to up to 2 hours), very easy to use e.g. setting a timer, and looks great on the kitchen shelf. A great feature is that it allows you to set the hardness/softness of your water. The coffee definitely tastes better than any of the previous coffee makers I had. In case you are worried about getting any plastic smell, just follow the instructions in the book which says that before your first use you should run through two cold water runs. I did it and my first coffee did not have any plastic-like taste. Overall,I am very happy with my purchase and have already recommended it to others who spent a lot more money on a similar coffee maker. This machine is another great example of German engineering.

When this arrived, at first I was a little surprised as it seemed much smaller than I was expecting. I was worried that the jug wouldn't be bit enough. But after using this for a few weeks I think its a great machine. Its easy to use, keeps clean (First time using disposable coffee filters - so much easier). The removable water tank sounds a faff, but honestly I love it. Much better than filling the jug and messing about pouring water into the machine. Just fil thank slip into position and put the lid on.The timer works great, and the adjustable keep warm function is a must. Most machines seem to have a 30 or 40 minute keep warm time, which just isnt long enough. On my own, working from home,I like the coffee to stay warm for most of the morning - and this one does.Great machine, very hapopy with it.

I don't know why I didn't buy a Melitta coffee maker a long time ago. After all, I have bought their filters for years and the name is associated with serious coffee making. The process is simple. Add coffee (in a filter) and water and start. You can also set a timer to start anytime within the following 24 hours. The best thing, though, is that you can set a timer for the hot plate and keep the coffee warm for up to 2 hours, thus getting around the 30-minute limit imposed by the EU. So far I am very happy, although the warning light to run descaler through the system seemed to come on sooner than my experience with other machines. If it keeps the machine working longer, though, it will be worth it.Overall, I am so far quite happy with this purchase.

Bought this from a high street store on offer. We like the clean lines of this machine. Good control over water hardness and how long you wish to keep the coffee hot. You can change the hot plate timer for up to two hours. The timer function is great for waking up to ready brewed coffee. The machine uses disposable filters great for an easy and quick clean up. This machine makes great hot coffee quickly and quietly without fuss. The only real downside is the overall capacity of the machine. A full tank of water provides enough coffee for realistically just 3 std coffee mugs 4 if they are on the small side. However if you take that into consideration this is still a great value machine that crucially produces great hot coffee when you want it.

This arrived today and was in operation within minutes. The water compartment detaches to fill with water straight from the tap with a nifty plug to prevent any water leakage. I haven't used the desalination program yet but this will definitely be used, useful if you live in a hard water area for longevity. My only qualm would be with the jug size and measures. While it is perfect for me and my wife for daily use, its smaller size might make entertaining other coffee lovers slightly more difficult. I agree with other posters that cup size is assumed to be catering coffee cup size (actually holds enough for 4 mugs) so make sure to double up on water. However,it works efficiently and am very happy with this overall.

Following a holiday to America, we decided to upgrade the coffee on offer back home! We paid a bit more to get a better machine and haven't been disappointed. This is so easy to setup and clean and makes a great coffee. The jug can hold 4-5 mugs of coffee, which I believe might be deemed on the small side. Personally I think it's plenty, much more and the coffee is going to loose flavour being heated for so long. The hot plate defaults to 30 mins but can be adjusted up to 2 hours. The timer function is easy to setup, it even remembers your last setting which makes it easy if you want it ready at the same time each day.

Previously I had a Tassimo pod Coffee maker. However the pods were too expensive and the quantity of coffee was always limited. In addition, the coffee was never as hot as I would prefer it to be. So it was time for a change and a friend recommended the Melitta. The Melitta Optima is a total contrast to the Tassimo, as Coffee is plentiful and piping hot! This is German engineering at it's best and the Optima is very easy to set up and use straight out of the box.I'm a shift worker, so the Timer is a wonderful addition. I can now jump out of bed and steaming pot of Coffee now awaits me.A great buy!

I cannot praise this coffee maker too highly. I am a real coffee snob - grind my own beans - and this beauty produces a very hot pot of coffee. The 'keep-warm' plate has not been utilised for longer than one hour - coffee is drunk too fast for that - but still remains fresh for the time tested. The water tank and lid, being removable for washing, prevents any build-up of calcium; the flat-back design means the machine sits back against the wall and takes up minimum worktop space, which is not obvious from the picture. This product is excellent.
