Very reliable and good value. My 85-year-old father-in-law has had Roberts radios as long as he can remember. He dropped his last one (also a Classic 993) and broke it beyond repair. I had to get the same one, a relief to find that Roberts, although moving with the times with fancier radios, also cater for customers who prefer simpler, less fidgety, things. The radio is a breeze to use, the dial is large enough to give good control over tuning, batteries last a good while, and the sound is absolutely fine. It's mono (or sounds like it), but it is powerful and clear, and totally fine. Reliable, he uses it in the garden, when potting around in the garage, when reading the papers outside. It's just so good to have a piece of technology that lasts and lasts. Highly recommend.

It's simple, straightforward and yet easy on the eye. Roberts make great radios and this one is no exception - it is cheap and no-frills yet it delivers excellent sound quality and feels like a much more expensive radio. I bought it for my mother who is virtually blind and the simple, on-off/volume button, with the large tuning knob on the top, make it all very easy for her to find her own afternoon listening rather than having to depend on a carer to set it up for her.Roberts also make a much bigger, much more expensive set-up for the blind, but my mother can't negotiate her way round all the slider switches etc. This one is simple enough for any 84 year old to cope with.I would highly recommend.

I would happily recommend this radio to anyone.I bought it for my husband to take fishing and we decided to take it to the beach with us to listen to the cricket. Very good, clear reception without the need to use the aerial. It's great in the kitchen as well, so really an all rounder. For the price, it is great value for money. In my opinion, much better than a DAB.I only wanted a cheap radio, and read all the reviews for all the radios in my price range, and this one had by far the best.Very happy.

I bought this radio for my brother Grumpy Jack who you can guess by the name moans at everything but he did not moan at this.He is absolutely delighted with the radio and as he has been in hospital for more than 2 months now this keeps him company and makes his days much brighter having a good radio to listen to. Sound quality is great, definately great value for the money. I had read the other reviews so was encouraged to buy this model and I have not been disappointed and neither has Grumpy Jack.

My wife has had a Roberts Radio for several years and it has proved completely reliable, so, when my portable radio started malfunctioning I thought I'd get a Roberts, and what an improvement! The sound is really good, the tuning is stable, the battery life is good and I like it's retro styling. Not only that, but it was much cheaper than I thought it would be. Other reviewers complain about the lack of a mains transformer, but if you use rechargeable batteries it costs virtually nothing to run.

I picked this up for my mum as she has had an unexpected long stay in hospital. As soon as she saw it was a Roberts, she was impressed, as my grandad always had them apparently! It’s the perfect size for her, great reception, even on a hospital ward! The control buttons are easy for her to use too as they are large, as she is 70 with arthritic hands. The sound is great, not tinny, and not too much bass either. Something she can use at home too! Great little purchase thank you, highly recommend!

Easy, straightforward controls, very good sound for such a small machine, looks good in my kitchen and a reasonable price. If it lasts a good long time (my previous Sony lasted about 15 years which, I think, is rather exceptional) I would replace it with the same. I did try two other makes but one had a tinny sound and very difficult and obscure controls and the othe one stopped working after a week. They were both VERY well known manufacturers. Why had I never heard of this make before?

I am a big fan of Roberts Radios. This is a robust model, I would say of medium size. It has a nice clear sound and perfect for my needs. It's easy to tune. Not pocket sized but it is sturdy and perfect for any room in the house especially a kitchen - or bathroom but I would remove it after each use if you take into the bathroom. As it is battery powered you aren't '' tied'' to the nearest plug socket.I am very pleased with my radio and would highly recommend it. Very good value too.

I like music in the bathroom when I am showering etc and this portable radio fits the criteria on every level. I do not like DAB radio at all and a good basic portable is so difficult to find if you dont want DAB.There is never a problem if you buy Roberts as the quality is always good. as is the tone. For the money you just cant beat this little ratio and hope they carry on producing this for many years to come. Its sits neatly on our bathroom window ledge and the batteries last.

Purchased for bathroom as last one died after about 18 years! Bought digital one first but batteries lasted one day so exchanged for this. It's good but when shower on & bathroom gets steamy, it doesn't sound good. I now put it on floor when shower on & it seems fine. Overall it's excellent value for money. Batteries lasting well - using rechargeable ones. On/off is on side so need one hand to hold radio & other to turn on or it slides about. Good sound for a little portable radio.

Brought this radio for my mum for Christmas as she likes to listen to two different radio stations and was getting fed up of keep having to retune her one radio all the time. Absolutely excellent purchase for her, easy to use and sound quality is fantastic for the size of the radio only one slight downside to it is that the sound quality does not seem as good when using a mains adaptor as apposed to when the radio is used on batteries but still extremely happy with it so far.

Was looking for a simple radio for the bathroom. The Bush DS372V2 battery/mains DAB radio **seemed** a cheap solution but had really rubbish sound quality & burnt through new batteries (4 x AA) in three or four hours :-(Argos took it back & I got this simple FM/AM Roberts battery radio for a similar price. Pretty good sound quality, batteries go on for ever, decent reception...what more do you want? Highly recommended for people who just want to listen without any fuss.

I wanted a portable radio with good sound, and excellent battery life. I was not particularly interested in DAB because both the battery life and choice of additional stations on them are very poor in my opinion. Anyway, my non-internet radio listening revolves around stations that can all be found on FM, MW & LW, so an analogue radio was a no brainer. I chose this purely on the reputation Roberts have built up, and the very positive reviews. I haven't been disappointed.

This is a real analogue wireless set, with a real analogue tuning circuit. No LCD displays to go wrong. (I got rid of a very expensive set from a different maker because the LCD failed and it was impossible to see which station the set was tuned in to.) In Medium Wave and Long Wave, this set separates the different stations well; not too much cross-talk between channels. The loudspeaker is good. The quality of sound received from FM transmitters is very acceptable.

This is a straight forward battery operated radio, no frills, light and compact with good sound for the money. I use mine in the shed, greenhouse, garden, wherever I may be without mains electric. Very pleased with it, it is exactly what I wanted. Good value, good sound and easily used. An added bonus is it’s not hard on batteries and feels quite robust. It has no DAB, but, from experience, this I find a benefit as battery life is extended and operation simpler!
