I have owned one of these for a month or so now, having moved from a Sony FM Walkman. I had tried a personal DAB radio before, with a Pure Move 1500 when they were first released, and it didn't work well. I wasn't sure what to expect from the Roberts Sports DAB 5, but to be honest, I am blown away. I use this to listen on a motorcycle commute, about 50 minutes per day. It will not let go of the BBC DAB signal in my area (Edinburgh), unless you go indoors or into a tunnel or whatever. It rejects all the interference from a noisy motorcycle ignition and lights, which played havoc with my old FM radio, and the signal remains rock-solid at all times. Battery life is equally impressive (for a DAB radio),I get about 7hrs from a pair of fully-charged NiMH AA batteries. Sound quality via a set of Sennheiser CX1.00 in-ear headphones is excellent for both voice and music, and there seems to be no problem using third-party headphones as the antenna. An excellent piece of kit, which is let down only slightly by the build quality - it looks nice, but feels cheap and delicate. I've dropped it once on a hard surface though, and it still works perfectly.

Quite a big unit for a pocket radio but lightweight and it means it takes AA batteries last really well. I'm using rechargables and have no problems. Signal pickup is excellent and you can rescan to add stations if you visit another area without it forgetting all your previous stations. It has 5 presets for DAB and 5 for FM. For other stations you have to use the fiddly jog-wheel to select. This is a real pain as for a pocket radio I just want to go through stations to find something i like with up/down buttons but this doesn't work simply like that. It takes two jogs to change station as long as you don't accidentally press-in at the same time or you end up in a random menu.

My first Sport DAB 5 was purchased exactly 5 years ago and has been a constant source of enjoyment for every single day, work and leisure. Unfortunately, I lost it, but it did have a hard life, especially at work as I work in construction. The volume rocker switch, the tuning selector and the 3.5 jack were all on the blink and the display was starting to fade. R.I.P.I just bought a new one, and if I get 5 years service again, I will not be disappointed. If you buy one, invest in a charger and good quality rechargeable batteries, and dump the old fashioned ear phones for some decent earbud types and you won't go wrong.

just what I wanted when walking or waiting somewhere. Easy set-up, nice looking, not too bulky slips into top anorak pocket nicely. I put my own earphones with it as they are very comfortable, cannot comment on the ones that came with this radio as did not try them. The quality is great, the sound is excellent and the design suits me just fine. The 'lock' is a great idea so you cannot lose your station.Overall I would high recommend this radio - but being a Roberts it should be good too.

I have been very pleased with this radio it has pre set stations which means that I do not have to tune it each time I turn it on. The lock button means that I can put it in my pocket when at football and not lose station . When listening to music it does lack a bit of bass but still clear sound. The digital read out is very clear which is a benefit for me because I always forget my glasses when going out . It was simple to set up , a great little radio all round I would recommend to anyone.

Really smart little DAB radio. Thought it would be a bit fiddly to set up but it was relatively simple. The earphones have a built in antennae so pop these in the socket as soon as you turn the power on, and in seconds you have dozens of digital stations literally at your fingertips. Preset function is great and you can customise the digital display for brightness, scrolling text etc. Best of all the sound is great. Even talk-based stations like BBC Five Live are brilliant in digital stereo!

I already have a Roberts Sports SDAB5 which is about 4 or 5 years old, so this new purchase is a replacement for the existing one. Plus I will set it up for DAB reception rather than VHS.My old radio has been superb. Tuning on VHS is very easy, yet to try DAB tuning. One problem is the radio 'eats up batteries', buy cheap ones and you get what you paid for a few hours use at most. You must use top quality batteries and will probably get 8 - 10 hours of constant use at most.

Reception of digital radio is good. However digital radio uses a fair amount of power and batteries will not last for long periods. It would an improvement if the radio was fitted with a rechargeable battery such as mobile phones have, and came with a charger.I bought this product for a hospitalised bed bound physically handicapped patient and whenever I visit I have to change the batteries. It would be so much easier if it could be simply plugged into the mains and re-charged.

I walk a lot and use the radio for company. The difference between my old FM/AM radio and DAB is like night from day.The DAB version is slightly bigger but the sound is far superior. Where I live has a good selection of DAB stations however you can switch to FM should you wish. There are five preset stations which are easy to set up. Earpieces are also excellent and a comfortable fit in the ear.I use rechargeable batteries and have no complaints with the battery usage.

Its compact, easy to use and set up with good quality sound. I read other reviews complaining that the batteries dont seem to last long however i have had 10 hours play on a couple of Duracell batteries and the power indicator has only dropped by one third so given DAB uses a lot more power than a standard AM/FM radio i dont consider that bad. I will try eneloop pro rechargables in it once the duracells finally run down. OVerall a good product recommended.

Great small radio. My husband has two different ones and he prefers this because it uses ordinary batteries which he can change when they run out. His other needs to be recharged and this has now failed. He. Bought another of this type as the similar one he has is so good. Had good price with £10 discount. It is quite expensive but good quality. Not sure how good battery charge is as he uses it every day but he's happy to change batteries when needed.

I use the radio to keep up to date with cricket, tennis etc when out and about, and also plug it into my car sound system, as I can’t get Radio 5 Extra on my car radio. This one works fine, good sound, battery life etc. My previous Roberts Sports radio was rechargeable, which is more eco. Previous model also could play like a ‘normal’ radio, ie without earphones, which is sometimes useful. That apart, I am perfectly happy with the product...

Very pleased with this radio! I felt it was probably a little expensive considering it is small, but I think the sound quality is good, and the radio fits easily into a coat/jacket pocket, so, it is perfect to take out with you! BE AWARE, that you have to use earphones to listen as these act as an 'ariel'! It did take me a little time to learn to use the radio and set it up as I wanted, but I 'got there' eventually!

So few controls but well thought out and so simple to use. Picks up all the stations available in my area and the sound quality is impressive. Like the fact it uses easily available AA batteries, a couple of sets of rechargeable ones and I was sorted. Nothing worse than a built in battery running out of power when you want to listen to the radio. Glad I moved to digital radio, glad I chose this radio as well.

Brilliant! I used this to listen in on a temporary local radio license which had a poor service to start with, I programmed the station in manually and it received it no problem.Sound quality is great and radio is very easy to use, it's lock key on the rear makes sure you're not changing channels or volume accidentally and its sized to fit in your pocket with ease. I would definitely recommend this item
