Even if this not come ready charged, it takes but an hour to charge, so you can pretty much use it straight away (it can of course be used mains powered if you choose). One charge is claimed to provide eighty minutes of use, that's a good number of trims. Up 'til now I've used ordinary hair trimmers, which have not proved ideal, but this is a different matter. The trimmer is quite slim with a correspondingly slim trimmer head, with the addition of an extra narrow head for trimming detail, making it much more suitable for the task of trimming a beard than normal hair trimmer. In use it is very effective. Trimming the beard outline is made much simpler and more accurate thanks to the laser guide, this is especially helpful when trimming the neck where it is otherwise difficult to see what you are doing. Here the laser provides a vey clear indication of where you are trimming, and as the laser covers a much longer line than the actual actual cut it is very easy to judge the angle and follow the desired line.Trimming the length of the beard is easy with the included attachment which wil cut the beard from between 0.4mm to 7mm according to how you set it. This works very well, there appears to be no danger of the trimmer taking off any more than the chosen length, so there should be no bare patches. The laser is said to be safe and to cause no damage to your eyes, although it does warn not the shine it directly into your eye. This does need a little care as it is quite easy to do this inadvertently while using it, especially via the mirror. This is without doubt the best tool I have used for beard trimming, both in ease of use and, with its very sharp blades, effectiveness in cutting.

This is an updated version of the previous Laser model that Philips released last year. This immediately got me thinking that, with that one being "the world's 1st laser-guided trimmer", why wasn't there a glut of laser-guided trimmers off the back of it, because surely it's so innovative, and so vital that Philips surely kickstarted something with this. Apparently not, so it seems this is not only "the world's 1st laser-guided trimmer", but the last. It's quite well made, with the metal built handle feeling good, but it really is a hulk of a unit. I immediately found it difficult to navigate around the face, and to get the precise cuts that the laser is supposed to enable I feel this is a slight issue. The comb attachment is decent, it seems to be accurate and it cuts no better or worse than my mid-range cheaper Philips trimmer (though the comb on my cheaper one is actually better).I've had this for a couple of weeks now and I have to say I just don't find the laser at all necessary. It's a good idea in principle, but it moves when you move, obviously, which means that you're still free to completely mess up your cut. It's not like it maps out the area you need to trim or anything. And I am at a bit of a loss on how to create "symmetrical" lines. I just find it—sorry for using this oft repeated word—gimmicky. The cutting heads are both very good, with the metal obviously very good quality. The battery life is also better than I expected it to be, seeing as it's got a big laser that needs powering. On initial charge it easily lasted the two weeks I've had it. Overall it is a neat shaver, it's well made (if bulky), but I do find the laser a bit needless.

In the past few years, as beards have grown up and down the country so have the number of trimmers that are appearing for review. With what I hoped wasn’t a bit of a gimmick – talking about the laser guidance - I gave this one go, comparing against a previous Philips 3000 model.First off it’s credentials as a beard trimmer, where it does pretty well. With a nice cutting blade and protective comb it actually works effectively. Changing and seeing what length you have is pretty simple too with a rotary switch and display showing you what you’ve got set. Charging is quick, easy to monitor and holds charge well – nothing to complain about. The addition of waterproofing keeps hair out of the blade and the item clean,a nice addition too.Up to here, pretty much everything I’ve described is also available on the previous models. The piece that in theory differentiates this is the laser guiding, which is where I have to take a pause on my praise for the item. The laser guiding could be best compared to a small barcode scanner, protruding from the top of the item and projecting a short line along the face. Now this is great when you’re trying to get a straight line along one side or in a small place but doesn’t aid really with symmetry – the line isn’t long enough and certainly doesn’t bend round corners which while I wouldn’t expect it to, really limits how useful it is.Overall therefore, as a beard trimmer this is pretty decent and I have nothing to complain about – it does everything you would expect very well. If you’re buying it for the laser guidance however just be careful, it isn’t as useful as it might suggest.

Tired this beard trimmer for the first time this morning, yes it has a laser guide but more on that later. This Philips beard trimmer comes with just two heads , wide and narrow and one guide that can be set from 0.4mm to 7mm beard length, this trimmer also charges very quickly and features a Lithium Ion battery for long run times.I used the wide trimming head first, it cuts cleanly and precisely with no soreness after use, I moved on to the narrow trimming head for even more precise trimming. To use the adjustable comb you simply insert it into the trimmer body, the length of cut is set with a very easy to use dial and the length of cut is also display on the LED display above the dial, this dial is also very positive and does not slip like some adjustable combs I've had in the past. This trimmer feels nice in the hand and is not too bulky. Now onto the feature that is no doubt a talking point of this trimmer, the laser guide. Honestly it's a bit of a gimmick, whilst it does have limited use as a guide it also has some pitfalls. You can only use it without the adjustable comb attached and it can easily get into contact with you eyes. I've found it's fine for close and straight line trimming but to pay so much extra for this feature is just not worthy really. There is an LED display on this trimmer for battery life, a simple 3 bars but does the job well.I feel Philips could have supplied this trimmer with at least a case and some extra attachments especially for the asking price, the trimmer does trim very nicely but the laser is best forgotten.

Laser technology comes to this stubble/beard trimmer. In essence though the laser line shows you where you are going to trim before you trim. The guide is not long enough to facilitate alignment from one side of your face to another which I think is a bit of a limitation. The other negative issue is the price of this trimmer which is easily, at launch, double the price of similar trimmers.More positively the build quality is very good. The unit is waterproof so can be used wet or dry and in a shower. It also can be used whilst plugged in but has a battery as well which charges in around an hour and is good for a hour’s use. There’s also a very clear LED display which shows you the length the trimmer is set to.This length is also pretty flexible from 0.4mm to 7mm.With this product your getting a top of the range trimmer, but you’re paying for it. For me the most useful feature is the clear display showing the cutting length, something that isn’t particularly clear on some analogue models. The laser feature is not as useful as it might be. In essence it is too short so only shows you were you’re about to trim. It does not faciliate symmetrical trimming.Overall just about four stars.

Until this product, and for many years, I have always trimmed my beard using both my Philishave shaver with my vacuum-type Philips beard trimmer - using the latter only for the beard itself, with the normal shaver being used below and above the beard line on my neck and cheeks. This works well and gives me a stubbly beard but with cleanly shaven cheeks and neck. However, it is nigh on impossible to achieve a truly straight edge on the neck, under the ear and on the cheeks, as well as on the lips and under the nose. This trimmer makes it easy to do this by shining an intensely bright straight red line onto the face exactly where the cutter will cut up to.It also works well to catch stray nose and ear hairs - and the light shows up any stray hairs that have been missed. The charger works really quickly and lasts many days on one charge. A few minutes charge will produce easily enough to trim the beard. It is very hygenic since it is waterproof and can be washed. I've always used an alcohol spray on beard trimmer cutters to sterilise them regularly to avoid sore skin - that works well on this trimmer, too.

Technology moves on and any way you can get a good even shave is a great plus.Philips have introduced a laser beard trimmer. Idea is clever to help you get an even shave. Works too though it needs a bit of practice. The trimmer runs on rechargeable batteries. Pleased the use of AA and AAA batteries is rare now. It can last for up to 70 minutes on a one hour charge and unlike some beard trimmers you can used it plugged into the shaving socket. Its waterproof which also helps with the cleaning process though be sure to unplug it prior to running the shaver under the water.I like the digital display advising how much of the beard is to be retained. Other trimmers have static number guides which work as well, but this does look good. The proof of the pudding, so to speak, Well the laser guide is helpful showing where you are to cut. Seems like a gimmick but I would it useful making sure I only cut up to the required area and resulting in a nice line.As a shaver, it does its job well and cuts without irritation. All in all a nice product. Recommended.

In the past few years I've owned and used several Beard trimmers, all of them well known brands. Some were better than others, but, if you'll pardon the pun, none of them seemed to cut it. either the battery or motor were feeble or the blades weren't sharp or accurate enough, After watching online videos of how to trim stubble and beards i decided to try this one which seemed to have a blade closest to the ones used by the "professionals".I was initially put off by the price, but at the time of writing this review, Amazon have halved the price, so i gave it at go. I have to admit that I've been pleasantly surprised, the quality is, on the whole, very good, it feels expensive and the blades are sharp and accurate, just what i was looking for. I have to agree with other reviewers about the usefulness of the laser, which, Phillips claim, makes for a level cut. it isn't really a great deal of use, but hey, it looks good and its great for playing at light sabres in the bath room ! In summary, I'm glad i bought this trimmer and at this price its a bargain.

This is a brilliant piece of kit for anyone who likes to keep their beard shaped neat and trim. It can be used either cordless or while plugged into the mains. An hours charge gives you just over an hour's cable free use. It can be adjusted to your required cutting length by simply revolving a knob and the innovative 'lift and trim' feature assures an even finish to your trim. Cordless, you can also use it in the shower as it is completely waterproof and, as such, cleaning is straightforward. Just run it under the tap. Two small brushes were provided to assist with cleaning. One of its main features is the laser guidance system which aids symmetrical trimming, but I think the biggest selling points are that it is so easy and natural to use, that it charges quickly and that it can be used virtually anywhere. In use it is light, feels like a natural extension of the hand and, due to its ergonomic design, feels just great in it. From personal experience, a proven reliable brand, I would expect it to prove durable.

This Philips beard trimmer has some good features - namely the waterproof unit which makes cleaning very easy, the "zoom" dial to adjust the trimmer height in very small increments, and the small cutter accessory for precision trimming and Lithium Ion battery which is good at maintaining a constant high power run and at holding charge without fading or developing battery memory - all very useful and all very welcome. The laser is, in use, not helpful. Like most, I tidy up my beard around the neckline and cheeks; the laser adds nothing when working on the cheeks. It is slightly more useful when working from one side to the other in a continuous flow on the neck, but really, it's no game changer.I pretty soon found it was actually a distraction rather than a helpful guide.A good trimmer overall, with one somewhat gimmicky feature. There are plenty of trimmers on the market around this price bracket, and the Philips is a match for most. I would advise that you are not swayed by the laser, though.

I'd give 3.5 stars for this.As I like a very defined edge on my beard I thought this laser option would be great, but sadly it's a bit of a disappointment. Once you point it at your face and come closer to the skin, the light moves upwards. I used it just 2 times and don't think I'll use that option again. So no. Great idea but in practice it didn't work for me. The laser function adds extra weight and little extra value so was disappointing. The trimmer itself is excellent. A robust device that feels expensive and does a great job. The blades feel ultra smooth against my skin, a noticeable and much appreciated upgrade compared to my old trimmer. The numbers (0.2, 0.4, 0.6 ...)are well designed and the difference in cut, although small, is noticeable. The device is easy to clean and it charges really fast - excellent! At this price point it's too expensive. But I'd happily pay £100 for the trimmer.

Does the job even with a thick beard like mine! With a thick beard like mine, trimming has historically been time-consuming and uneven - I used to dread trimming with my old Babyliss iStubble as I would always get an uneven trim and often get "knicks" when applying too much pressure. This trimmer is a dream to trim with - you get an even trim first time with no "knicks". The blades do the job and the build quality is solid. The laser is a cool feature for those ocd about symmetry like myself but take some getting used too.Granted it's expensive but it's worth it, it's got a solid build and blades that do the job; the laser is a nice addition for the price which you can choose to use or not use.The Babyliss that's comparably priced doesn't offer a "USP" for the money so in my opinion it's the only trimmer worth going for if you're willing to spend this much.

The Philips Series 9000 laser Trimmer is a good, balanced weight in the hand and not too heavy. It trims well and the different attachments are good quality. The smaller attachment works well on nose and ear hair as well as for more precision work whilst the larger makes light of general maintenance. The plastic trimmer is good for beard control with a useful adjustment for the length of cut so you can trim precisely as required., aided by the laser guide that helps you to achieve an even line.Once finished, cleaning is achieved by a quick rinse under the tap and it can then be stored in its own supplied bag.A one hour charge produces about 80 minutes of shaving when new although I anticipate this will diminish over time. All in all it is a good shaver with the USP of a laser guide for even more precision than that provided by the trimmers alone.

I've been using Philips beard trimmers for a number of years now and have always found them to be the best brand for me.This particular model is no exception and much of the design elements that I've grown accustomed to from past models are present here. The main difference is the laser guide function, which I've found to be pretty good. The price of almost £80 is likely explained by the laser function and while I wouldn't have paid that much personally, the results as I say are pretty good and for many it will warrant the extra expense. My only criticism would be that I think this is slightly more cumbersome than some of Philips' more basic units.Recommended.

Bread trimmer yes, but laser guided beard trimmer? This is something that looks like it should belong on the tip of a North Korean missile, rather than touching your face. Yet, here is a beard trimmer from the hispter of the 21st century. How does it work? it shines a lazer light on your face so you can see a red line which helps you keep things level. Rather unecessary, but funny (for about 5 seconds). On the important stuff, this has two cutters and a guide so you can avoid making yourself look like you have just been run over. It washes in water too, which makes cleaning easy. A good devide overall, ignore the lazer stuff and you will be fine.
