Can't quite put my finger on why, but these clippers were purchased to replace a set of Nicky Clarke clippers I'd been using since the late 90's and they're just not the same. The older set were just better. On paper, these new Wahl clippers are far superior, but they just don't seem to give a consistent close cut either without an attachment or with the No.1 attachment for example (I haven't tried any other attachment). They're a nice weight and shape to control to trim your own facial hair or head and I keep the blades well lubed and balanced, but they just simply do not cut as well. I frequently have to go over the same area multiple times which without an attachment can cause a bit of irritation,and/or use a second set of trimmers on the back of a shaver to tackle bits these clippers miss every time. They seem to be very good quality but they're just not as good as my older Nicky Clarke's. I just needed a reliable set of clippers to buzz cut my own head every few weeks and I also use them to shave with without an attachment fitted and these clippers just aren't making the cut (pun intended). Once upon a time if I wasn't cleanly shaved before reporting for duty I would have been disciplined, these days I prefer a close trim/shave but not absolutely clean shaven as with a razor or shaver. It's not me struggling to adjust to the new from the old either as I've now had these Wahl clippers a few months and wanted to really use them properly before I reviewed them so I could comment on any pros and cons honestly. Don't get me wrong, they'll quickly and easily remove long hair/whiskers from head or face, it's just the finish and close consistency that repeatedly lets them down unfortunately.I still have the Nicky Clarke's and at this rate I may look into getting the blades sharpened on the original set and maybe give these away as I just can't get on with them for consistency with a really close cut. I thought a pair of clippers were a pair of clippers lol, obviously not.Otherwise, they came well packaged in decent retail packaging and not that I'll ever use most of the accompanying accessories, but they came with a utility vest, various attachments for length of cut, hair clips, cape, left, right and standard combs, a flat top comb and 3 or 4 different brushes/dusters. It also stated they were supplied with a hard case and a DVD, but despite mine definitely being the "Pro" set, mine just have a soft polyester roll that everything tucks into, not a case. Can't say I was gutted at not receiving the DVD either :o).. My Nicky Clarke set had a hard case, so I simply swapped some pieces around and keep the new one in the original hard case and kept the rest as a backup. Can't rate at 5 stars as they're just not that good, although happy to rate at 4 stars for the price, all the included extras and that they cut the worst off. Would recommend in general, but also add that you may want or need a separate smaller set of clippers to pick up the close in bits these seem to miss.

After a succession of hair clipper disasters (a rubbish Philips cordless followed by a truly pathetic Babyliss for Men) I decided to go for a quality name with a mains adapter. I can't believe I didn't buy this product sooner. It comes with everything the home barber could possibly need; scissors, combs, brushes and of course the cutting attachments from Grade 1 right through to Grade 8, plus the side tapers. It's all packed into a sturdy black carry case and includes a barber's cape and an instructional DVD.The chrome clipper itself is a decent weight (almost kalf a kilo, compared to 150g for the cordless Babyliss) and has a salon look about it. It feels solid and is really comfortable to hold whilst cutting.I've 3 young lads aged from 4 up to 9 and I spent about 10 to 15 minutes on each of their hair, one after another, and I can only assume that those customers complaining about vibrations have either not followed the instructions on calibrating the equipment (a 10 second job) or have been unfortunate enough to receive a faulty unit.My hair is ridiculously thick, as is my eldest son's, we could stuff mattresses with it, it really is akin to horse hair, but these Wahl blades just sailed through it. I took it slowly to start with as previous clippers have snagged on almost every pass, which aside from being painful means you just want to get the job finished as soon as you can. These were actually a joy to use. I also bought the official Wahl clipper fluid Wahl Clipper Oil 4floz 3310 [Misc.] which, being a metric man I was quite take aback at how big it was considering it was less than 2 quid. (It must be 120ml or so, it should last me the best part of a decade.)All in all a thoroughly good purchase and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this product to anyone looking for a quality clipper that is well made, comfortable to hold and most importantly produces good results. At under 25 quid this is a steal.Final note: Having been stung on my last 3 or 4 clipper purchases I took the time to read all the reviews here beforehand and, whilst this item does get 100+ 4 and 5 star reviews I was aware that perhaps 10% of purchasers were less than thrilled. I'm genuinely at a loss to explain their disappointment. It seems odd to me that a company with a reputation like Wahl's would knowingly send out such a high ratio of faulty stock and I have to wonder if every purchaser has taken the time to check the blade allignment and ensured they have adjusted the turn screw to ensure maximum performance for their household's voltage.

I bought this to cut my three year old's hair. I believe a boy's hair should be quite short and it was costing me £5.50 each time I took my lad to the hairdresser. Also because he was fidgeting around and getting bored, the cut was not the best.So I thought I would try this- a little apprehensive I admit, but I am glad I did.As others have reported, it comes with a wealth of accessories- the 'combs' you attach to the blade for the grade of cut, a pointless DVD, an actual comb and some pretty good hairdressing scissors. There is also a plastic cape.Cutting the hair is actually very easy and it makes a very neat and smart job.It is basically as simple as putting on the desired comb length by clicking it over the blade (I find number 4 gives a smart short haircut without it being too short)and then switching on and running it all over the hair. You cannot go wrong and cut more out than intended. The comb prevents this. All you have to do is make sure you run it over against the hair growth direction until all the hair is cut down to the preset length. If you miss a bit, just go over it again.Trust me I am no Vidal Sasoon, but everyone says it looks smart when I have finished. Any idiot could do it- no skill required whatsoever. As well as the standard comb attachments, there are some graduated ones for cutting in above the ears, but I once tried using one of them and I could tell it was going to go wrong so quickly stopped. I find with a grade 4, all that is required is a little trim above the ears and the back of the neck with the scissors to cut off any longer strands and straighten up.When you finish use the little brush to brush the hair off the clipper and a few drops of oil (both also included)to ensure is is A Okay to go the next time you get it out.So, in summary if it sounds like you or your loved ones would like a grade 5 downward cut, want to save money (paid for itself in 3 cuts), can't be bothered going to the hairdressers and want to save time, get one of these.I can also attest that you can do the same job on yourself, no problems- all you need is a facing mirror and a handheld mirror to make sure you have not missed any bits at the back. The clippers seem well made, and are quite heavy and substantial. It has not pulled the hair when I have been cutting and I did not have to adjust the blades.

Purchased my set from Olympic Sharvers Co Ltd via Amazon - incredibly speedy delivery! arrived just 2 working days later - most impressive. The clippers have been used just the once but they seem to be very sturdy and I feel confident they will last a long time. The box is a bit cheaply made, but that is the only gripe I have. The DVD was helpful and after a quick view 'er indoors had her first go on me. Using a grade higher than I normally have as practice [the dog didn't seem keen to be experimented on] she moved on to my normal grade and the result was as good as my barber. The scissors were sharp and the gown was a useful addition. She did an OK job overall and frankly as a barber where I live charges £10 a time, these clippers will pay for themselves inside a month or two. OK her knowledge of the last nights football was a bit weak and she had no appreciation of the latest new sat navs, but I can live with that!UPDATE Feb 2015 OK, 6 years on and the clippers are still working just fine! We did buy a nicer barbers brush as the nylon one supplied was a bit harsh on the neck, but fine on the clippers, plus some clipper oil but you only need a couple of drops of it every few weeks. I reckon we have saved about £1500 in barbers charges and a lot of waiting time. Very happy with the purchase.I don't think anyone who wants to do basic haircutting will go far wrong with this set...and even if you do, it'll grow back!Update October 2018 - still working just fine. The clippers are used every 2-3 weeks and although I have had to replace the grade 2 guide as it wore out, the clippers are still doing a fine job. I reckon on having saved about £2500 in barber charges over the years!Recommended.

I bought this clipper set as my hair has receded to the point that it was quicker to cut my hair than wash my face. So after looking around I settled on this Wahl kit so that I could cut my own hair rather than bother the hairdresser.Amazon dispatched the kit the day after ordering so well done Amazon.I took this kit to my hairdresser on our family visit so that she could give it the once over and let me know how good she thought it was. This kit is very well stocked. The clippers are well made with a heavy duty motor. The small trimmers were so good that my hairdresser wanted to steal them from me. and with nose hair trimmer, scissors, every blade guide you could ask for oil and even a protective cloak you really couldn't ask for more. All the components fit neatly in to the soft nylon case provided, so that you can keep it all together. Her opinion was that this is a very good starter kit for a hairdresser never mind for home use and well worth the money. The clippers are smooth over the scalp and cut my hair with ease, just keep them lightly oiled inbetween uses and you cant go wrong. As said above there is every clipper guide for setting the cut height that you could need, even having special ones for around each ear (Left & Right handed). The cape is big enough but the velcro fasteners have unstuck themselves and so I don't use that myself. The precision trimmer is very good, cuts easily and Precisely, it works off 2 pencil batteries as does the nose hair trimmer, which is also very good and pain free when used. Conclusion: A very good kit, provides and does everything that I could wish for in a hair clipper set. Well worth the money and should last years.

My partner wanted some hair clippers, as he wanted to start trimming his own hair then having to keep going the barbers every week or so. So I decided to buy him these, as they were very well priced and had plenty of positive reviews. These Wahl Hair Clippers arrived very quickly, and were very well packaged upon delivery. You get a hell of a lot of accessories included with this set, including the clippers themselves, 1 blade guard, 8 attachment combs, 1 left ear comb, 1 right ear comb, 1 barber comb, 1 pocket comb, 1 flat top comb, 1 pair of scissors, 1 cable tidy, a neck duster, a barber cape, a cleaning brush, clipper oil, a how to DVD, and a case to put all the accessories in.The clippers themselves feel very well made and sturdy so hopefully they will last my partner for quite some time. They are really comfortable to hold, and really easy to use. The clippers glide effortlessly through my partner hair, and it only takes 10 minutes to fully trim his hair to the length he wants. They do get a little hot using them for a while, but nothing that would burn your hand or anything. Once I've finished trimming my partners hair, there is a little brush to brush the hair away from his neck and a brush for cleaning in-between the blades on the clipper. Overall my partner is really happy with these hair clippers, so we could happily recommend them to anyone.

The main Clipper is pretty good. The chrome parts are plastic but it all feels solid and well assembled. The main body is heavy and the soft rubber give a good grip.I disagree with other reviewers regarding the noise. While it is noisy, I found it to be a lot more pleasant than the cheap unit I had before. Noise is very acceptable and not too annoying, even when clipping next to the ears. The unit's lever is also useful, allowing to adjust sizes on the fly. So overall, I'd give the main unit 5/5, for the price and for occasional amateur use.The rest of the package is not as good, unfortunately. The small trimmer is flimsy. Mine doesn't even stay ON all the time when the button is in the on position - I have to squeeze it down so it works. And when it works, it is very noisy... it is noisier than the main unit, a lot noisier. The rest of the stuff in the package is also very cheap looking... it has many combs but the plastic is flimsy. I only use sizes 1-4 and some of those already had bent "teeth" that I had to straighten out.The barber's cape is terrible, flimsy and leaving your back unprotected. I threw it away after first use, as even a long trash bag will probably be more efficient.I recommend getting just the main unit if you can, for a better price, and then adding some better quality combs.

When my first pair of clippers stopped once I decided to replace them even though I managed to get them started again - who wants half a head of No2 length hair?I've been cutting my own hair for about ten years now - since thinning made the clipper cut the best of a bad job - and this clipper replaces the Nicky Clark branded one I have had for that long. It's probably not a fair comparison, as I suspect that I hadn't oiled the last one nearly often enough, but the new Wahl clippers cut much better - both the hair at the side of my head, which is still quite wiry, and the much thinner stuff on top. It feels solid enough, so I'm not expecting it to break down soon. The one element of the design that I don't like is the on-off switch, which is a fragile looking slide design rather than the robust rocker switch of the previous one; it does look vulnerable to being broken off if I drop the clippers. There's a huge number of accessories in the carry case, including No.8 cutter (can't think what kind of hair that would work well on!) but I threw most of these away.Great value - less than the cost of two visits to the barbers. If you're thinking of cutting your hair at home, this would be a good set to start with. There's doubtless better, but I'm not sure that many home users would really need it.

Prior to today, my hair reached my waist. With the tools provided here I've managed to cut it short without any issues (with the clippers). They required multiple passes to cut the hair, however I believe this is due to the hair itself lazily lifting away or otherwise avoiding falling into the blade teeth when using longer guards. I was at this quite some time (due to inadequate mirror visibility, lighting and experience) yet when i got round to doing the hairline without any guards, the metal was warm but not uncomfortably hot.The accessories are very poor. The longer guards had their outer teeth bent inwards, and even the scissor blade had a very slight bend. The trimmers have a nice ergonomic shape, but they were erratic - varying in power. The nose clippers do not share this problem, but I doubt they would be very effective in their job (a piece of plastic rotates inside and the outer metal is stationary). The mirror is tiny, less than palm sized reflective area.I found the instructional DVD is useless - the information on Whals website was more informative. A section discussing techniques (also found on their website) and a selection of haircuts demonstrated with the clippers (more helpful ones on their website).

Bought this set to replace some old (10+ year) Wahl clippers which I lost moving house.First impressions were good! Comes with everything you could possibly need. The main clippers felt a little more plasticky than my old set, but as long as the blades are good, then I can't see that as a problem. Well weighted, and the first trim I gave myself was perfect. One thing I loved about the old set was that the cord was ridiculously long; this one isn't so much. I like to cut my hair in the bathroom (for obvious reasons), and the cord was just too short to reach all the way, so I had to use an extension. It's a nice touch having the additional tools; however, they're extremely cheap! The nose hair trimmers do the job, but I don't hold out much hope of them lasting longer than 9 months. The one item that lost this review a star were the beard/body hair trimmers. They flat out didn't work. Not really an issue for me as I have an awesome Panasonic beard trimmer, but if I didn't, I wouldn't have been happy...Given the choice, would I buy it again? Yes. So if you're looking for a decent set of clippers, you won't go far wrong.

Nice, sturdy, quality USA Wahl clipper. It has the reassuring buzz of the professional barber. Should last a lifetime (I hope). Good for all the reasons mentioned by other reviewers. Some of the accessories that I found useful/good might surprise you: the hair cape to protect your clothes, the sturdy plastic box that holds everything (packed full), DVD and instruction book, the left and right ear comb (wish that barbers would use these more), oil, little cleaning brush.Negatives are minor: beginners, beware of the fader lever - start with with a comb 2-4 sizes larger than you are aiming for, I'm not kidding. The DVD is disappointing with dragged out intros & a small number of odd hairdos. Some simple general guidelines, shorter instructions and more styles would be useful. The booklet seems old fashion but in some ways better than the DVD and with a different approach. The number combs are all plastic, not the metal backed versions used by some pros. Coloured combs would speed up the selection process (available as an accessory & with some other models). Metal-backed coloured combs might be the ultimate.

i have had these clippers for 12 weeks, and today they have been used for the first time. according to the operator, my wife, they felt funny to use to begin with, with a slight vibration, and they are heavier than our previous clippers (phillips, which we have had for 14 years). she soon got used to them, and found it easy to cut round the ears with the special tools supplied. for me, all i could feel was the cutters gliding over my head as the hair was falling off(being cut) leaving a nice tidy hair cut....NOTE. there is a saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it. LOOK at your dvd first. make sure you look at the maintainance section. and check your clippers. the teeth (cutters)on mine where out of alignment and they probably would'nt have cut so smooth. it is only a small adjustmend, although it did take longer to get it exactly right than i thought. don't undo the screws to much, as they might fall out.. 1 of mine did. do it over a flat surface, so the screw has something to fall on.

Can't comment on longevity just yet -- only had for a few months now. So far works perfectly. The attachments are more useful than I expected, (combs and hair clips) and are also of good quality. It feels heavy in the hand, like it should, and the metal construction makes me feel confident in it's quality. As for its operation, it is seamless, regardless of hair building up behind the blades. If you don't know what you're doing, I don't recommend unscrewing the metal plate, (I tried to clean it inside and found it harder than expected to put back perfectly - not too hard but it was unnecessary). This has already paid for itself, and will save me a lot of money in the long run. If you have a simple hairstyle, its worth trying to do it yourself. Each time I cut my own hair its slightly easier than before. The oil included lasts longer than I expected too, I bought a huge bottle and it will take years and years to get through, so wait to buy more oil!

I had a lesser named brand pair of clippers for cutting my boys hair. They died after only a few months. I decided on the wahl brand after reading a lot of reviews and these seemed to have a lot of good reviews and were cheap. These arrived today so as soon as the boys returned from school I set about trying these out.Firstly they feel like quality, they have a weight to them which is pleasing. I opted for the 5/8". They run quite quiet and do not snag in the hair as i found with other brand. I have not watched the dvd yet and am a complete novice so do not know much about the art of clipping! That said I managed to give both boys a pretty good crop, yes there are a few stray longer hairs but that i believe is down to my complete lack of skill!Overall really pleased, you do get a lot of extras with these which im pretty sure i wont end up using but they are there and i have two boys as guinea pigs! (I'm joking, they'd never forgive me)
