First of all, these do act as beard trimmers and shapers, but I cannot comment on how they perform in that respect, so ignore this review if this is what you want them for.Secondly, I a comparing these with a mains powered Wahl set of cutters which have been a firm favourite of mine for years......well, when I say my favourite, I actually mean my wife as she cuts my hair! The first thing I noticed about these is how light weight they are. If you are going to be using them for a long period then this is a big advantage. They are contoured and comfortable to hold. The combs are clipped into place depending on what shave you want. There is only one blade that is adjustable and this will go from 1mm to 23mm in 1mm increments. The setting is made by rotating a dial that can be a bit sticky, but to help you can use a finger on one side of the razor and the thumb on the other side (I'll upload some pictures to make that point a bit clearer). I did have an earlier Phillips adjustable shaver, but the adjustable comb flexed when pressure was on it leading to uneven cuts. They seem to have overcome this problem now and the adjustable comb is sat rigid on what ever setting. The blades are slightly narrower than my Wahl cutter (by about 2 comb fins) but this didn't seem to add to the cutting time. My hair is quite thick, but the blades powered though nicely without snagging on catching, so a comfortable cut. I was expecting it to be underpowered as it was on battery, but other than being a bit noisier, I wouldn't have noticed. The only hiccup I had with them was when the wife stopped to remove the comb (needs a firm pull when set to the max size). For some reason the clipper would not start up again. It was as if it was dead. I was a bit surprised by this as they had been fully charged 2 days earlier and it took less than 5 mins to cut my hair. This is reported to have a run time of 90mins from a one hour charge. I plugged them into the mains whereby they started up fine. I then unplugged them and they seemed to be working on battery again. I thought the battery might be dying, but they carried on working well for when my son had his hair cut and still fired up the day after for a trim on missed bits. Maybe just a glitch and there is a 2 year warranty to fall back on.Cleaning was easy, the head can be removed and rinsed under a tap, but I prefer to wipe them over. There is an internal spindle that may need a spot of grease from time to time other than that they are supposedly oil and maintenance free. There is a storage box provided, but I found it easier to remove the cardboard insert - nothing ever fits back in as it should! Not quite sure they are worth the current price tag of 40GBP, but they did perform well and were almost on par with a good set of Wahl cutters with standard blades

I have been through many hairclippers (wahl, babyliss, remington, and various older models of philips hair clippers) and this is the one I like the best. The blades cut cleanly and the clipper itself is pretty lightweight compared to most. Even at full charge, the motor seems to be significantly quieter too. This model does not come with a comb and scissors, which seems to be the default accessories you get with most hair clipper products. There is a rotating dial from 1 to 23 which allows you to flick through 23 different length settings with the hair trimming attachment. Using this dial on the three beard attachments has no effect. When I initially got it, I didn't understand how they could claim 24 hair lengths, yet offer 23. Apparently, they consider the clipper without any attachment to be the 24th (and closest) cut. Personally I would have liked an additional hair clipper attachment for lengths greater than the current 24 settings, but it's not too big of an issue. The power on/off button is located right beneath the dial, and a turbo button underneath that. To enable the turbo feature you have to press the power on button first, you cannot just press the turbo button from a cold start. Now what I really like about this clipper is the charging speed and process. It does charge fully really quickly and retains it's charge for a long time. A lot longer than my experience with the others, which would range from immaediately have a depleted battery after disconnecting the power plug, to a few days of intermittent usage. I've managed to get it to retain it's charge over two months with just one complete hair cut, and an occasional trim on the tasche every two/three days on a single charge and it hasn't died down totally yet.During charging a green light will slowly blink, and remain on when fully charged. After a certain time of it still being connected, this light will turn itself off. When it needs charging, a yellow blinking light will appear when it's turned on. I find these indicators a real useful feature. Some of philips older models just use a single red light when it's being charged with not way to determine how fully charged they are, and no way of telling you that it's about to run out of steam just as you are about to begin the tedious chore of cutting. The attachments are a little fragile, but the protective case should prevent any damage to them if you store them away after use. It's a shame the organisation of the attachments in the case is a little haphazard. Will update this review when and if I encounter anything worth adding or editing.

This is the first Philips hair clipper I have bought, and the build quality and performance is impressive. I have used a fairly cheap rechargeable hair clipper (from Lidl) to cut my own hair for a couple of years. I also use an old battery powered Remington beard trimmer. Both devices are nearing the end of their useful lives now, with the rechargeable battery declining on the Lidl hair clipper and the Remington beard trimmer becoming noisy and feeling old - well I have used it weekly for over 10 years! The instruction leaflet for the Philips clippers is small, but has clear diagrams, without text, so it is universal in terms of showing how to use the various parts of the kit.All the parts of the set are clearly marked and it was fairly easy to use the beard trimmer, although it was a little heavier and larger than my old Remington trimmer. The beard combs work well, but the 3mm seemed not short enough for my weekly trim and the 1.5mm seemed too short. The sound of the motor was much less than my noisy old trimmer, just a nice smooth hum.The hair clipper comb has a good range of adjustments and was easy to set and was fairly reliable to use without fear of it moving. I did manage to nudge it down one notch by accident, but I felt my thumb move the wheel, so I was able to reset it immediately, before I cut at the wrong length. It took a few minutes to become used to the difference from my old Lidl clippers, but once I did I had no interest in going back to them, because the Philips clippers are much sharper and quieter. Overall the final cut was much easier to do, even though it was my first use of the Philips clippers. Cleaning was also easy.Enough power in the battery out of the box to complete both a beard and hair trim and still not need a recharge. I may add to this review once I have used the recharge.

As one of the unlucky members of the gene pool whose hair began to fail him in his early 20's, these have been a fantastic purchase. After deciding to keep my hair as short as possible to mask signs of balding, it seemed a good idea to get the tools in to do it myself. With a goal of very short hair and a well maintained, short beard, I came across these clippers, and they have done the job perfectly for me.With the shape of these, and with them being cordless, I have absolutely no issue getting an even shave over my head. I tend to hold the clippers with the palm of my hand going over the top of the dial for ease, and this keeps most of the cut hair underneath the guard until I am done, after which it just takes a quick shake and the majority of the hair can go straight in the bin/sink, leaving me very little clean up to do. The clippers also come with a small brush to clean hair out of the blades themselves. The beard comb attachments work great as well. Just select the length of beard comb you want (1.5, 3 or 5mm comb) and go. Very quick and easy to do. The only thing with the attachments, like others have said, the dial on the clippers does not change the cutting height of the beard comb attachments; it only changes the height of the hair clipper attachment.Battery life on these is as good as it needs to be. I usually get 4-5 shaves (head and face) out of one charge. It has a red warning light when it is getting low on battery, but the warning is usually long enough that I could do the majority of my shave while it is on; and it fully charges very quickly which is a good bonus. For the price, these clippers were a solid purchase. I've been using mine twice a week for the past 5 months, and have never had an issue with them yet.

I've only just received this today and whilst it looks stylish I've not used it as yet, so I'll update my review once I have, however, I wanted to review the packing straight away as it might put others off.I know it's only £30 but when I took it out of the cardboard sheeth it came in, I immediately thought, oh right is this it for the case. It's a horrible cheap looking plastic case and looks more like a drill should be in it and not a pair of hairclippers.Don't get me started on trying to get the clippers, the wire cord and the 4 combs back into the case, it was like trying to do a bloody puzzle. You get another cheap looking piece of modern kit to fit it all back into, this being a bit of molded cardboard. This sits in the plastic casing and you have to work out how everything goes back into it, as I of course paid no attention what so ever to how it was packed originally (plonker!)Hey ho, I'm hoping the actual reason I bought them will brighten up my mood but if the packaging is anything to go by I'm not holding out much hope. We'll soon see.....UPDATE:OK, so I've used them twice and I am pleasantly surprised. The ergonomics of the actual shaver are pretty good, it fits well in my hands and the shaving height isn't easily changed with my plump midget fingers, so that's a bonus.I'm not too keen on the feel of the plastic combs, they feel a bit flimsy and like they might break soon, but we'll see. I mainly only use the shortest comb anyway as I like a short hair cut. It's quick and cuts my hair the way I want to, so I've upped the 3 star rating from the first impressions of the packaging to 4 stars. But that's only just a 4 star as I still feel like I'm getting a drill or electric screwdriver out when I pick up the box.

It's quite hard to find a hair clipper that suits you when you haven't got the chance to physically use or test it. I set myself with a budget of around £30 and all of the £30 range hair clipper has best reviews as well as lousiest reviews. Some five-star reviews have only a word or two; 'Good', 'Excellent', 'I love it' and it's the same with one-star reviews. Well, I say, might as well don't write the reviews.Anyway, I decided on this one despite terrible reviews. I used it for the first time yesterday and it took me less than 20 minutes which was great considering I spent about an hour if not more using my previous hair clipper. Some reviews mentioned that the zoom wheel is loose but my unit works great.I mean if you press this hair clipper hard on your head, it will definitely change the length setting. That goes the same for my previous hair clipper anyway. The blades are good that it just cuts. However, hair did get stuck in the comb area and the blade and once in a while, I had to remove the comb attachment to clear the hair. Not big a deal as I believe it happens to most hair clipper with comb attachment.Small issue with the weight. It's not exactly heavy but not too comfortable to hold for long period of time. I almost dropped it a couple of times. As I managed to cut my hair in 20 minutes, it's not too big a problem. Now that I used it already, I will know how to handle it better next time.Slightly annoyed by the washable blades. Took a while to wash and some hair got stuck between the two cutting elements and it's almost impossible to get them out. Just have to make do with clearing as much hair as possible. Still, it's better than my non-washable previous hair clipper.Glad with the purchase!

I purchased this Philips hair clipper to replace a 10 year old Remington one that started pulling my hair instead of cutting it due to the blades becoming dull over the years. In this respect, the titanium blades with dual-cut technology on the Philips are incredibly sharp - so sharp that I had to call my wife over to ensure it was actually cutting as I couldn't feel a thing compared to my old Remington. The device has two buttons and a click wheel. One button turns it on and the other turns on 'Turbo' which boosts the cutting speed. The click wheel sets the cutting depth - WARNING - you still need to use the comb attachment otherwise it will just cut at '0' and shave you bald! This, along with the fact that the wheel can be easily turned whilst in use without realizing is why I decided to give this product 4 stars. Another flaw I noticed - but this could be due to my thick hair - is that I constantly had to remove the comb attachment to clear out the hair as it was getting clogged. The adjustable height comb attachment is quite bulky and I've scratched and poked the back of my ear a few times trying to get around them - though in my case I could use one of the static, 3mm, comb attachments as I use the shaver on 3mm anyway. The battery life is very good, I've done two full head shaves with 2 months in between - but you can use it whilst charging also. The click wheel has 24 length settings...just in case you need 24 different settings... And so far the blades themselves haven't scratched me yet.Overall it is a good Philips product with a few flaws. I bought this for £27.53 which I believe was a fair price but I wouldn't suggest this particular model it at the current price of £36.97.

I bought mine back in March 2015. I have been using it every week to shave my head and beard. It is very durable in terms of battery it still holds for around 1 hour and a half of use, so battery life is 10/10.The case is hard plastic with a cardboard tray inside that fits most of it, although once you take out the charger and its cable forget to put it all back perfectly as before... the combs, the little brush and the clipper all will fit.The plastic combs do not feel as cheap as other models I have used and they are perfect if you need something for beard and hair and you are not planning to go to a moustache competition.Simple to use and accurate. The blades at the beginning were smooth and you didn't need to pass twice the same spot; now they are still cutting although I start to feel that not as smooth as the beginning but hey I have used it every week for 3 years. The loss of smoothness can be related to the lack of self lubricating oil that the clipper had at the beginning, after so much time and use I see that nothing else is coming out from the small point behind the blades which was dropping a bit of lubricant from time to time. I have tried to drop some oil from another whal clipper on the same spot but it is not really the same and you need to do it practically after every shave and clean. In terms of heat, I feel that it gets hot but not to the point of burning, although I usually do not leave it on during the whole process y switch on and off and it doe snot stay functioning for more than 5 minutes.Overall, this Philips is excellent, the best I have bought so far and I am considering in buying it again.

This has seen 3 years service. Beard 2-3 times per week and Hair every 6 weeks. After the last haircut it became much louder vibrates more, so is probably on its way out. However, that is three years of 'free' haircuts, so I would consider it value for money and will be replacing with the same model.I find the variable guard too flimsy and just use the 5mm one for haircuts and the 3mm for beard trimming. The unit itself is very light and being cordless is easy to use. I have corded Wahl clippers and prefer using the Philips. It is easy enough to go over the whole head with the 5mm, then back and sides with the 3mm and a final bit at the back with the 1.5mm.I do usually go back over the head again with the 5mm the next time I would trim my beard to catch any stray hairs.I would always pre-charge before a hair cut , but for the beard, if the warning light comes on, there is enough to finish. Some Philishave chargers are compatible, so you may find you already have a 'spare' charger. As an aside, the 1.5mm is good if you are going somewhere sunny and your arms and legs are too hairy to get sunscreen to rub in effectively.I gave 4 not 5 stars since it did start to fail in three years and it would be better if there were more lengths for the beard guards. The 1.5mm is a bit short and the 3mm just a bit too long as set of 2,3,4,5,6 would have been great.

I bought this clipper to shave my bald head and trim my bushy beard.Pros:• The shortest level (level 1 - which is 0.5mm) is perfect for getting a really close shave to the head.• The in-built length settings (all 24 of them) work really well - you just switch the dial on the front and the in-built guard moves up 0.5mm.• The in-built length settings plus the comb attachments mean you can trim most beards to the length you want.• The detachable shaving head pops off easy and is simple to clean, you can even run it under a tap and it's easy to pop back on.• The turbo boost is useful for when you need that extra bit of power for certain areas. It also stays on too so you don't need to keep hold of it.• It charges quickly and lasts for a decent time before needing to be re-charged.• The shave action is nice and smooth and didn't leave me with any sore bits of skin or shaving rash.• The case is really useful: you can fit everything in it (even the charging wire and plug) yet it's light and strong with a good firm closing system.Cons:• There aren't any. I've had the clipper for a few weeks now and I haven't come across one negative aspect of it.Overall:• If you need a clipper to shave your head, trim your beard or whatever you need a clipper for - I would definitely recommend this one.

OK so i ordered this last Sunday (3rd January 2016) and it arrived 2 days later with free delivery, thanks Amazon! So it's great to hold and is fairly light I suppose would get heavier if one was holding it for a longer time. I haven't used it on my hair but more on my body hair, yes it's actually very good for that use too. It certainly hasn't got clogged up yet, then again i've only had it for one day so can hardly comment on it. I like the fact it comes with 4 combs, a little brush but was disappointed I couldn't find a pair of scissors or an actual straight comb it certainly showed these 2 items in the brochure. As I only had £25 this was by far the best body groomer I could find around.Pros:LightPowerfulSeems well put togetherCons:Can't use it in the shower, this would be a great benefit but I suppose it's only personal. No rounded cutter knife, this has been a real problem actually as I've managed to cut myself using it but I suppose you just have to be extra careful when using them.As I have said I've only had it for one day so I'll post up a report on how it's getting on in a few months.

I've always previously been a Wahl man but, after seeing that their positive product reviews are now loaded out with the "free/discounted" reviewers and that the people who actually paid for them say the quality is now rubbish, I decided to take a chance and go with Philips. And what a good choice it's proved to be.Yes the instructions are next to useless but, to be honest, you don't really need them. Plug charger in wall and attach to clippers. Leave to charge. Attach plastic cutting guide to clippers (it only goes one way) and twiddle control to achieve desired length!I've no idea why there are separate guides for beards - perhaps beard lengths are measured differently? They're easy to use, light but powerful and a battery charge (so far) gives about 40 minutes of cutting for me (admittedly not too much hair anymore!). It's also easy to clean (no spring loaded bits flying off around the bathroom when you take it apart) and it works directly connected to the mains if you prefer.I can thoroughly recommend it.

Forget the negative reviews about the rotating selector, its solid and does not slide on light touch, its rock solid. I have just given myself a haircut after working out the adjustment works for only one of the adapters whilst the other are simply for fixed height cutting only.Ive saved good money, that said when I want a better fashion trim Ill just go to the barbers for a shape-up, meanwhile this item will pay for itself within 2 -3 months. I used it for around 45 mins in-all and didn't once feel the battery wasn't fully charged, no snagging during cutting and I never had to use the Turbo button, but sometimes I did... just because a turbo switch is manly feature for guys with curious minds.Furthermore, Ive just used it all over to rid myself of body hair, my only warning is, guys... if you don't take care cutting hair off your "dangles" you'll catch the blade at a bad angle on that skin and there will be blood. (Suck it up buttercup)... In general 5 star product, did I mention it comes without wires?

I buzz my hair every week, and have been doing so for the last 10+ years and in that time have used many hair clippers. These are outstanding and far better than others I've owned at the same price point. They are simple in their design, one hair comb and a wheel to select the desired length - 24 options to choose from and no more unclipping and re-clipping hundreds of different combs!Add to that they provide 3 beard / stubble trimming combs and your set for a full grooming system.Easy to maintain with no need to oil and self sharpening titanium blades, which can unclip at the press of a button to be washed under the tap.Battery life is good and they seem to charge quickly.Only negative i have is the supplied hard plastic case is too big for the minimal contents,a bag or some form of soft padding / internal dividers would go a long way to better protecting / stopping the contents rattling around.

I've actually bought two sets of these clippers, one set for me and another set for a family member as a gift. They're nice and solid, the ability to remove the blades at the press of a button and clean them off is superb. Other clippers that I've owned needed oiling regularly, but these get a drop every 6 months or so and work like a charm. It's also nice to have an adjustable clipper length rather than needed to swap on the spacer ever 5 minutes. I was also slightly worried that if I put pressure on the spacer when cutting hair that it might move, become shorter, but in over 18 months of owning my own set that's never happened. There are 4 different spacers, although I only use the one.The battery lasts at least 2 full head shaves about a month apart, so all in all this is a great piece of kit and if this is the type of thing you're looking for, then you won't be disappointed if you buy these.
