Even though my watch does not have a metallic wristband, still caused a deviation of around 4°W which was a bit less than half of a division on the rotating ring (Not to be mistaken by declination or variation which is the angle between geographic and magnetic North). So, the deviation caused by the watch added to around 1°W local variation (depending where you are in the UK) it added up to 5°W which is just half of one division (10°) on the rotating ring.Taking those factors into account I can say this compass is pretty accurate. For just walking around I wouldn't even bother adding 5° to my true heading to find my compass heading but would probably be useful to add those factors if you needed to do some triangulation. Then again, unless you have bionic eyes and can divide the space between 2 marks on the ring in 10 parts, I'm pretty sure your triangulation won't be accurate and this won't be the right tool for this purpose, but in a real emergency.. who knows.. at least you would know roughly where you are.The build is solid, there's no bubble in the liquid, the needle is fast, the cardinal points are phosphorescent (they glow pretty nicely in the dark). The rotating ring clicks but the interesting thing is that it doesn't move every 10°, but rather every 7.5°, which means the lines only align perfectly with the arrow every 30° which is not really an issue.Something else to keep in mind... it is unusable inside my car as it only points to one direction probably due to the metallic body or some other magnetic fields. That won't happen on a bicycle though but if you just want to have a glance at your heading whilst riding just make sure you're not in a corner or accelerating or decelerating because as the compass is balanced (North Hemisphere in this case) the centre of gravity of the disc is offset from the pivoting point and that will cause turning and acceleration errors due to inertial forces acting on the centre of gravity. In summary it is nicely built, it's quite small which is what you want when having something attached to your watch and at the same time doesn't look cheap, so it doesn't spoil the look of your watch either.Verdict:I'm happy with it and I would recommend it.

I purchased the SUUNTO Clipper to supplement my SUUNTO MC-2 baseplate compass. I attached the Clipper to my 22mm G-Shock resin watch band (which is fairly thick.) I had to notch the watch band slightly so that the open side of the compass clip (which has two fairly sharp plastic points) would grab the band better. It fits comfortably on my band, but would likely fit better and completely close over a thinner watch band/backpack strap (e.g., 16-22 mm.) When off my watch, the magnetic north on the Clipper accurately matched my baseplate compass bearing. Where it is attached on the 6 o'clock side of my watch band, it is situated on the inside of my wrist (closest to my body.) At that location, although a fair distance from the watch body/face, the metal in the watch appears to throw off the compass magnetic north by about 5 degrees. Even with that degradation of accuracy, I recently used the Clipper in that configuration on a 5-mile hike and it did a good job of maintaining a fairly accurate reading of north. To read the bearing, I found that it works best if I bend my elbow at the side of my body and point my arm away from the front of my body in a perpendicular position, and turn my wrist upward so that the compass is oriented in a level position. Thanks to the liquid filled jewel bearing, the cardinal points (N-W-E) rotate nicely when the Clipper is held in that manner. The luminous cardinal points glow brightly in the dark once charged with sunlight or a flashlight. The glow holds for about three minutes, decreasing incrementally in intensity until ultimately faint, but still readable. I received the compass earlier than originally promised, so I was very happy with that. Overall, a good compass at a reasonable price, but should only be relied upon for quick direction finding to help keep you oriented.

The best watch band compass. Just barely fits my 21mm nylon band. Would buy again. Updated review. Still 5 stars. I read the negative reviews before buying this but it seriously looked like the best option. It has seen heavy use in the field, when kayaking and diving. I did manage to get it to come apart several months ago. I just snapped it back together and have not had any problems since. I was heavily abusing it when it came apart but I have not been gentle with it since then. I have not had any accuracy issues either and I have checked it against my full size suunto compass as well as my milspec brunton. Mine sits next to a luminox watch that does not appear to have any magnetic influence. The one buckle on my watchman is plastic so no problem there. I actually did but another one to have as a backup. Now I would like to a decent Velcro watch band. The ones that I have used for a number of years are now being made with really cheap hook and loop. My gear gets hard daily use and my bands are only lasting 3-4 months when I used to get close to a year (same brand but cheap material). This compass may not be perfect but is the best one that I have found for this use. I really do have a collection of failures.

This is the second Suunto clip compass I have owned. I primarily use it to orientate (paper) maps when visibility is too poor to do it by eye.I've found the compass to be accurate and easy to read, despite its diminutive size. The clip on the back is strong enough to hold onto a single thickness of map paper. The design of the compass is strictly utilitarian - black with white lettering.Using the direction of travel indicator is a learning point, as it is offset from the compass by about 30° to the left, rather than being on the leading edge as is usual for many compasses.I would hesitate to try using this tiny compass as my main unit for navigation. It obviously lacks the protractor baseplate that is so useful on full sized Suunto and Silva compasses. But I don't think that anyone intended that it be used in that way.The price is a little higher than I expected, but if this compass lasts as long as its predecessor, it will prove to be money well spent.Recommended.

Super helpful to get a rough bearing.I used it for the "Southern Upland Way" last March 2020 and it was very, very useful. I had it attached to the cuff of my Montane Extreme Smock. It fell once on the first day. Luckily l realized and l put it back in place (making sure it was better attached). It never fell again after 214miles (I wore the smock every day).I can't find any fault to it. It's great to get an 'estimate,' to see if you're heading in the direction you're intended to. It wan't be as accurate as a full compass (which l also had), but it's so, so handy that l used this one most of the time and for my purposes, it did the job greatly.Once I got back home l put the smock in the washing machine.Only when l was putting it back in the closet did l realize the micro compass was still attached to its cuff and still giving north strongly. That should say it all.

I like to be able to orient myself in unfamiliar places and have bought a succession of button type compasses over the years, this is the best one I have come across and I hope that it lasts a while. I will also carry this as a back up for the baseplate compass that's part of my hillwalking kit.The needle settles quickly and is nicely damped, Construction is plastic (pretty decent quality I think) and has survived a few drops onto a hard surface already. The clip part is stiff and a bit awkward to use but seems to secure the compass well, I've had it attached to the webbing on trek poles and also on a rucksack, I wouldn't want to try and attach it to anything much thicker,I'm sure it would snap the clip's plastic.Precise bearings aren't possible but the rotating bezel is definitely a bonus feature for me. The compass weighs next to nothing and has decent luminosity.

I originally had doubts about this compass and I gave it one star. I was going to return it because it couldn't seem to point in the same direction for north any time I looked at it. I really liked the design of it, and I kept it clipped onto my watch for a day or two, trying to decide if I wanted to consider mine a dud and exchange, or just return it all together. I think something was stuck inside, because after walking round with it, the wheel started moving more quickly and freely. Now it works like a champ.Biggest Pro: The way it clips onto your watch. I have my Apple Watch on any time I'm in the outdoors. This little compass clips on tight in an amazingly secure way.I had to really be intentional to get it off of the watch. It's not going anywhere.Biggest con: The dial around the edge seems a little bit fragile.

Just got my compass...So can only give a quick impression.I'll be wearing the compass on my watch and it slips on secuerly and stays in place with ease. The lume is pretty middle imo - but not terrible.I do like it a lot - this will just used for quick reference at a glance use.The one thing I do wonder about, but can't yet answer is the question of durability - being it is an open face etc and seeing some other buyers have had poor experiences.I'll update in 6 months or so.I also own the Sun Company Compass with a protective cover - this can also serve a similar purpose, it costs a deal less and could be a reasonable alternative to consider. This one is a bit slimmer and features the adjustablebezel. So i'll end it here...I'm very happy and with proven use over time- i'll recommend this. Thanks peeps.

Great little compass, and solid as can be. I just bought my second, and it took awhile to kill the first one. The first one I had stayed on the watchband of my G-Shock for 4 years, and never lost it's bearing, even after a variety of outdoor activities. What finally killed it was taking up SCUBA diving and taking this thing down to 65 feet below the surface of the ocean. So I ordered another one. When I did, the one that came in the mail was broken. I did have to pay the return shipping, but another was in my mailbox in a few days and it worked. Since it was hang packaged in plastic, and well padded in the Amazon box, I really don't know what could've caused the issue, and I don't really fault the distributor.I'll just say this thing has been worth it's weight in gold many times, and I trust it.

The Suunto Clipper compass has saved my bacon a couple of times, it pointed me in the right direction along a trail when I was sure I had to be going the completely opposite way. It goes with me whenever I go hiking or backpacking (3 - 4 times a month) and thus far has proven extremely reliable. The compass face information and dial glow nicely after being charged, the rotating bezel does what it's supposed to do well and the compass itself is rugged and reliable. I noticed a slight deviation when I used it on my digital wristwatch strap. Since then I hang it from a cord around my neck so it's always with me and easy to use without being affected by my watch's magnetic field. The Clipper is great tool and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again if I had to.

This is a great compass and the lume is incredible. Mine have never lost their water. But, because the clip onto a watchband from the side rather than slide on from one end, they can pop off under heavy use.I have lost a couple that way, and they are not cheap enough to just buy three or four. I ended up using a speedy stitcher to essentially stitch it to my watch band. Even then, under true heavy use, the outer bezel could pop off, and the compass element would disappear. So I used Seamsealer to glue the compass module into the base. Once I did that, it was completely bombproof. I have taken it around the world on expeditions and it has proven itself again and again.Just expect to have to do some work to make it truly solid.

A very sturdy piece. Illumination is good. dial is easy to adjust. Only bothersome item is if you put it on your watch strap - you'll see an indention and it's a little uncomfortable. I adjusted the watch strap but then watch is loose fitting on wrist. Switched to NATO watch band - same indention on skin, only more slightly snug fit. so i got me a small Ranger band and put it on my watch strap and placed the compass on. It works but the compass sticks up and out just a tad - making it easier for you to possibly get it snagged on something like a sweater/jacket cuff. But overall, the functionality is 5 stars - cant' wait to get lost!!!

Brilliant little clip on compass. I have a couple of regular size ones & this is one of a few small "back ups". Build quality is what I've come to expect from Suunto. Although you can find similar versions on Amazon, I would say spend the extra & get quality as it will last. For a small compass it is well thought out & sturdy. The irony is, I got this as one of my back ups & it is now my "go to".The only slight negative I would say is that if the compass isn't completely flat, it can occasionally stick a little but, this is really not that big of a deal. All round performer, well thought out & put together.Highly recommended

This is a modification of a previous review that I wholly agree with. While the compass is not good for easily pinpointing a position in open or obscured terrain, with adequate peaks as physical references, I have used it for pinpointing my position in totally trail-less terrain. It weighs nothing.... I have them on each of my packs (day hike, fishing, backpacking). Complaints about the clip are irrelevant; slip them over a pack strap and they stay through the toughest brush; just make sure you are clipping OVER a strap rather ONTO a strap. Like the original author, I do not just hard, but brutal hiking.

I have both the Suunto and the GoCompass wristband mounted compasses. The clip stays secure, however the compass popped out and was lost on my first purchase.Compass needs to be completely level, and is a little slower to respond. The GoCompas is a little more forgiving and quicker. What I like about this compass and why I bought it again:It’s smaller than the GoCompass, flat top not rounded.Black rotating bezel, make it less evident to others.Great luminescent dial! A perfect piece for navigating at night when you don’t want to lose your night vision to get a quick heading.
