I have always been a blade user....shaving in the shower at least once a day.I have to be presentable to the public in my job, so like to be freshly shaved for work, usually after I've cycled in.I broke the razor test down to 3 parts...pre-shower, in-shower and post-shower.First of all the razor arrived in neat suitable packaging. Most of which I was able to recycle. Not to much and not too big.The instructions were adequate, however a little simplistic. The first charge was quick and lasted a longer than I expected. Battery, top marks.Nice ergonomic design, sits in the hand comfortably and isn't too noisy. It sounds like quality...like a quality car door shutting if you know what I mean!I had a slight issue with holding the razor....Being new to using a handheld electric razor I held it for maximum control to shave. This meant my thumb was on the power button (see pic). This meant I kept turning the razor off as I shaved...not ideal. So I had to change my grip to the 'fist grip'. I personally don't feel as able to have as much control to get the razor into those tricky areas or to get that awkward hair! The 'T+' button seems pointless. Its like a vacumn cleaner with a power control setting, everyone always has it on maximum power.I understand it offers better control and so on...but who uses that? You pick up the razor, in your fist grip. Turn it on and press the T+ for maximum speed to shave....Pre-shower.I found the shave to be close, comfortable and easy. The natural oils on the skin caused the razor to drag a little when trying to dig out the awkward hair, or shave the neck, but all in all I was happy.In-shower.There just something in me just isn't happy with having an electrical item in the shower...it must go back to a childhood learning thing! The razor was fine, it gave a close shave, I wasn't electrocuted....but it didn't feel right.Maybe I would get used to it in time, but it wasn't for me. Man, naked, shower and a blade...it all so caveman like!Post shower. My favorite. I found the razor worked best in these conditions. Immediately post shower, with a fresh soft face and hairs meant the razor perform perfectly. A close shave, easy to use with no drag from the oils on the skin. Able to easily shave the neck area around the adams apple without having to go over and over an area to pick up all those different angled hairs.Cleaning was ok.Again, I'm not to happy putting it under a tap...I know, get with the real world you 80's throwback.I reverted to tapping the razor on the side of the bin to knock the hairs out. This didn't go too well and the flip top came of into the bin! It was easy enough to recover and refit it.I will use the tap in the future. All in all very happy with the razor. Firstly charging the Philips Shaver series 5000 wet and dry electric shaver with SmartClean is really quick (5 minutes) and it works a long time (1 hour) compared to other shavers I have used in the past. However the shaver comes with a European plug and therefore requires an adapter to use in the UK.When shaving you need to shave in a circular motion rather than back and forth and the 5-directional flex heads do a good job of working round facial curves. You can use shaving cream/gel or even in the shower but I didn't find that it made much difference. However it is a plus that it is has Aquatec for dry or wet technology so can be used in the shower to save time.It does take quite a long time to shave using the S5572/10,much longer than a manual razor and is not as close a shave. However it seems much safer as if there is no chance of nicking skin. Also there is no razor rash or soreness after shaving. One of the biggest benefits to the S5572/10 is the smart clean technology. The top of the shaver head flips open and the shaver head can be cleaned under the tap - which is a massive plus. There is also an electric cleaning system which comes with cleaning cartridges to give the shaver a deep clean - which is an excellent idea although it would be good if consumers could use their own detergent - I'm not sure if this is possible. The easy cleaning of the shaver is probably it's biggest positive - it's something I've always struggled with with previous shavers.Another positive of the shaver is the extra heads - there is an attachment included in the S5572/10 which I think is only for sideburns/beard edges - however it's quite awkward to switch between attachments due to the shaver head flipping open to be cleaned really easily when trying to unclick it from the shaver unit. There's also a facial exfoliating head available to buy.So the pros of the S5572/10 are that its really quick to charge, really easy to clean, comfortable while and after shaving, extra attachments available, can be used wet and dry.The cons are no uk plug (at least on my unit), takes a while to shave, not a close shave (although comparable to previously used electric shavers). In conclusion I would recommend this shaver especially for the SmartClean technology. I have had an older Philips Shaver for 14 years! It has worked extremely well. The blades have been changed when necessary. The battery was beginning to fail, so I thought I would invest in a new one.I wanted to get another Philips in view of my great experience with the former shaver. The multi-directional heads really appealed.I like this shaver a lot for the following reasons:1. The multi-directional floating heads.2. It's a lot quieter than my previous shaver.3. Easy to clean.4. Fast charging.5. It gives a good shave providing you take your time.Things I'm not so keen on:1. No case supplied - I had to buy one.2. The need to detach the shaving head so as to attach the sideburn trimmer - the older shaver has a built in trimmer that flips up when required.I have kept the old one to use for that feature.3. On the older shaver there is a greater number of cutting teeth on the blades - there is noticeably less on the new shaver's blades. Likely a cost cutting measure.Final notes: As a result of the last comment about the cutting blades I do find that I need to be patient and not rush the shaving process to get a good result. However, it is a good result. If you are short of time, then a quick "wizz" will be sufficient but likely you would need to shave again in the evening if going somewhere. Also, I find I have to use the shaver differently to the way I used my previous Philips. This isn't really a criticism. Initially I found that I didn't get a good result as I was using the shaver the same way as the older one. However, when I adjusted my technique and didn't rush - much along the lines of the recommendations in the manual, which, by the way, is a bit lacking in detail and explanation, I found my shave improved.Despite those comments I still recommend this shaver.

One of the greatest trials I face is trying to ensure that I dont have hair sticking out of my nose or ears....I think it makes you look a lot older and its a real turnoff! Ive tried all sorts of devices in my time from simple tweezers and pointy scissors to alls sorts of weird and wonderful devices for removing unwanted nasal and ear hair. Some worked better than others but they were fiddly, painful or simply not good at what they were supposed to do. Until now.I purchase this on the basis of good reviews and I have not been disappointed. The item arrived bang on time. It was well packaged and the packaging was adequate without being OTT. The produce came blister packed and was in perfect condition.Use a pair of scissors to open the packaging...that way its simple clean and safe.!In the package was the main unit, a very handy travel pouch, battery, blade protector and 2 eyebrow trimmer guides and the instructions. The instructions looked very complicated but then I realised that that they were in about 12 different languages. Once I found the English guide it was a doddle to set up. I was using the product within 5 minutes of opening. And this is one of those great simple products that simply does the job effortlessly and intuitively. Very quickly I got the hang of using it and about four short minutes later my ears were as smooth as the proverbial babies bottom and my nose was devoid of nasal hair.....Bliss! Its not often that you can spend a relatively small sum of money and have a problem that has bugged me for years disappear. So to summarise if you are looking for a simple effective eyebrow, nose and ear hair remover that is simple to use and totally painless then look no further...this is the product for you

What is it about nasal or ear hair that no-one talks about it? The result is that standard razers and electric razers, for all their cleverness, never include implements to deal with it. So, having grown tired of slicing lumps off my ears in an attempt to deal with the expanding forest, I was delighted to find this.It works pretty well. The head - which has a single line of cutters about an inch long - is thin and gets into pretty much any area. It does not always cut right down to skin level - I found that there is a fraction of stubble left behind in some parts of my ear especially as it does not cut right down to the very tip - but for all visible areas it does a very good job. While quiet its not completely silent by any means,so don't try to have a conversation while its stuck in your ear - but its a heck of a lot quieter than most electric razers - about the same as an electric toothbrush which it, in many ways, resembles. The device comes with two add-ons for eyebrows, but really rubbish instructions about what to do with them and which one to use in what circumstances, or the fact that they only fit one way. Not having bushy eyebrows I cannot comment too much, but they do work and do not scalpe your eyebrows off (always a worry when dealing with an aberant long hair normally).Cleaning is easy, under a running tapThere is a nice little carry bag for the whole device, these two eyebrow bits, and the head has a cover that should protect it.It loses a star for me because it does not take all of the hair off - if it were a facial razer I'd be a bit peeved about that - and the instructions, which are spectacularly useless. Beyond that its a good device well worth the money.

This was purchased to replace a similar device from another brand used for a number of years but was really quite ineffective although it did sometimes catch the odd hair or two. Its operation was very different and ir was the sole choice available when purchased. A far greater number of choices are now available, even from within a single brand of which some use the same system as the model now to be discarded. This uses a toothed cutter that does not pull the hairs, finds and cuts them easily without pulling on them and without causing pain or discomfort.Although described solely as for nasal hairs,it can also be used in the ears and on eyebrows on which you will need to exercise care and to pay attention as you may otherwise finish with half of one.It uses a single supplied AA battery which should last for a year or more before replacement. The motor is sufficiently powered for the job required and the device is capable of good results. It is also competitively priced and there are several others that have prices within a few £ either side of this. The bottom section needs to be turned for the arrows to align in order to insert the battery, but a small leaflet will need to be removed. When replaced, the section also functions as the power switch using the other two marked positions. My personal grooming kit is, with the addition of this now 100% Philips; a few months ago it was 100% another brand although Philips products were used some years previously but then fell out of favour for some years. The trimmer works as claimed and intended and will be a good choice unless a rechargeable version is desired.

I have found that the product provides a very close shave without any discomfort or irritation. This is a key consideration of mine when deciding to purchase a shaver. I did however notice a slight pull on my facial hair a couple of times, not significant enough to affect my view of the product and something I believe would probably not have happened would I have used the turbo mode. The movement of the head and three individual shavers is fantastic which allows you to get into the hard to reach places i.e around the chin and along the jaw line. The trimmer also work very effectively and allows you to trim with precision as it is quite small and well designed. The battery life is outstanding, the last thing I want to do is charge the product everyday. With this product you certainly would not have to. Cleaning the product is also very easy and takes next to no time, a real time saver. As the instructions do state not to dry with any materials I find myself having to leave the head open to dry properly, increasing the risk of it being damaged/snapped accidentally. The design itself is great and it is a very light product. I do however find that the head is not as easy to slot back into place, over time this could damage the mechanism in my opinion. It would also be great if there was a clip on holder for the product so that it can be mounted on the bathroom wall. Overall I would buy this product and would strongly recommend that anyone who requires a close shave especially those with sensitive skin should buy it. I used to have a Philips rotary shaver and changed it many years ago for a linear one. However, I found that the razor I had kept missing parts of my beard and leaving occasional long ones, which ere difficult to remove.I had seen a lot of new razors with rotating heads offset from the main shaver. After a lot of on line research I decided to buy a 5000 series shaver. At first I found it a different grip from the shaver I had been using for some 30 years, but soon got used to the recommended rotating action and the pistol type of grip.I was also concerned about the battery life, but it seems to be holding up the same as other razors and therefore is not a problem.I do not like th option to wash it under the tap,as it takes a long time to dry off and does not shave very well when wet. I have no desire to go to shaving with soap any more.It is a pity that it does not come with a brush for clearing out he heads and I had to buy a case in which to put it for travelling.I have not used the clearning facility yet as I have not had it for a month yet and I see no point in cleaning more frequently. This is based on experience with other shavers with a clearning function.I am pleased that it appears to give a closer shave than ony other razor I have had and does not leave any long hairs to have to tackle on an individual basis.Overall I am very pleased with it and trust it will last a long time. I have only given four stars because I have only been using it for three weeks, but the experience to date has been excellent, I hope it continues to please.

This is only my second electric shaver, but this is by far the best I have used. I found that it cuts hair much more efficiently than my previous one (even when new) and the fact that the precision trimmer was included has negated the need for a standard razor to straighten up my side burns. If you have the additional 'head' to hand it probably takes less than thirty seconds to change. As previously mentioned it cuts hair much more efficiently this is probably down to the fact that this razor has three free moving heads or as Philips calls it 5 direction flex heads instead of been fixed in some way. It cuts really close to the skin with no irritation, nicks or cuts when shaving wet or dry.I have noticed it charges really quickly unless using the Smart Clean 'dock' cleaning, drying and lubricating function as this will requires a small amount of additional time. The battery life is also very good. Another bonus is how quite it is, but this is probably not something you would think about or would base you purchase on.I didn't receive any instructions on how to use the Smart Clean 'dock', but this is fairly straight forward and there are plenty of videos available online to aid in using this 'dock'. With the Smart Clean 'dock' not been very portable I would have thought Philips would have finally included a normal UK Mains Three Pin Plug (equivalent for when distributed in other countries) for this, but included is the standard Two Pin Shaver Plug so an adapter will be need. The first thing I noticed about this shaver is just how quietly it operates. There is none of the usual shaver ‘buzz’ like you would expect. My initial shave after a full charge overnight was on about 4 days growth. This was done dry and using a circular motion provided a clean and close cut with little irritation at no nicks at all.The turbo function is particularly useful for getting through problem areas after a few days growth and found it was really effective on the problem area under my neck.I found that the most effective shave was when using in the shower with gel, which gives the best of both worlds in regard to electric shavers and a manual razor. The clipper attachment it handy forkeeping sideburns in check and the mechanism to switch between heads is a simple click.Th Smartclean function is effective and found the head to be completely clear after every clean. It also functions as quietly as the shaver when operation. I did find that it is quite easy to spill the solution when setting up so make sure the surface you use is completely flat. The only negative I found of the shaver as a whole was the placement of the power button, this may be down to the way I hold the shaver but found I was turning it off during use. A redesign of this might be a thought.Overall, I am happy to use this shaver on a daily basis due to its close cut and the low irritation is causes.
