Performance: After charging the trimmer for the first time it lasted me well over a week with no dip in performance as the battery ran out. I only used the 3mm setting as this is what I prefer, but it performed much better than expected ensuring my stubble was even over my entire face. I have found with some trimmers that often the area just below the nose is difficult to get to but that wasn't the case here.Ease of use:Not much to comment on here other than you slide the switch up to turn it on, a very simple process! However, even changing over the combs was simple, just click them into place then when done just pop them off.Design:I rather liked the design of this trimmer,it's not anything spectacular to look at but I personally wouldn't want it to be. It has a basic look but it's very nice to hold and it has a good weight to it. I'm not a fan of ultra light trimmers so I feel comfortable and in control with this one. One aspect of the design which I'm yet to test however is the 'self sharpening' blades as I've only had it a week but if they work then this is a big plus as I have found some trimmers to dull over time.Overall I would definately reccomend this to anyone who wants to keep their beard or stubble in check and would advise them not to be put off by its bland appearance. I've been using this for 6 months to shave my beard, hair, and neck. There are some strange reviews on here from people who don't seem to have read the instructions:* Minimum cut length without guard is 0.5mm, not 0mm. I've never had a nick.* Battery lasts for "up to 60 minutes" of shaving. I've done two 25-minute sessions before. Takes 8 hours to fully charge via Micro-USB (I use a USB-C adaptor). Cable but no charger included.* "Switch is stiff" claims are from people putting their thumb on only the bottom half of the switch instead of in the centre, which depresses the safety button (see product photo).* To clean, just easily pop the top off and give it a blow. If you don't want cuttings blowing back in your face, use the brush instead.* Ultra lightweight at less than 100g (roughly half the weight of a mobile phone), perfect for travelling, especially considering that it doesn't need its own charger.* Not waterproof. Two things that could be improved:* There is a green charging LED, but it does not indicate when charging is complete. It would be nice to have different colours or pips to see how much battery was remaining.* The 5mm guard is too similar in length to the 7mm one. I'd prefer that the 5mm was replaced with a 12mm.

In general this is a very good beard trimmer. The box is very well presented, nice enough to give as a gift, and comes with everything you need - a USB charger, a storage bag, a cleaning brush and plenty of different heads so there will almost certainly be a head to suit your desired length. In terms of getting started the trimmer charges very quickly and seems to hold the charge well for a good amount of time. The heads are easy to remove and replace and the self sharpening blades mean the trimmer cuts well and will not require much maintenance. The functions are simple and to the point and it is easy to operate. The trimmer has also been nicely designed to sit well in the hand, doesn't feel too heavy despite being nicely made and doesn't get hot in use.The only issue with the product is that hair does tend to fly in all directions rather than feeding downwards, so it is definitely best used in the bathroom where it is easy to sweep up the hair. This doesn't tend to be so noticeable if you trim regularly so the hair is shorter so it wouldn't put me off using the product in future or recommending it. Here's something that's obvious when you think about it, but for some reason it's taken ages to come to market. As someone who's constantly losing razor power supplies - and has actually had to buy a new razor on one occasion - the idea of a razor taking a standard plug - any standard plug - is great.Nevermind that though, this one takes micro usb! Standard micro usb! Firstly this is a win for the consumer as they can charge it with their phone charger. Less to pack, less to carry. Less to lose, less to store. And secondly it's a win for philips as they don't need to make, sell or transport a power supply!Genius. Now, this is a tiny trimmer. I usually use these to remove stubble but it comes with 4 different size adaptors. It's quite powerful - feels more like a hair clipped than a standalone razor attachment.Downside is it's not a razor nor does it have one attached , also it's not washable which is a big downside for me as I like to rinse these things after use.Overall though it's two thumbs up for philips being brave enough to try something new - usb power supply!

I’ve been fortunate to review several versions of the Philips trimmers recently. This model is great for the ‘on the go’ type of guy who likes to keep his stubble-come-beard facial hair in check. (It’s not for those with thicker beards!)The razor itself has a plastic cover, and the switch it big enough to slide easily on/off with your thumb. It would benefit from some rubber to help strengthen a users grip, but I’ve found it fine to use.Over the last 6-weeks I’ve found it gives a very good cut, whether you use it with the combs or not. It’s also very easy to clean, as the head is detachable and the included brush helps flick out dead hairs. The best thing about this is the USB charging...it literally means you can plug it in almost anywhere to charge the battery... car, laptop, mains adapter... a full charge gives you 60-minutes of power, which is enough for several trims. But it will take around 8-hours to charge from 0 to 100%.If you’re on a budget and travel a lot, this could be a worthy purchase. For me personally, this is great!

My favourite beard trimmer / shaver was a Philips model from years ago, had 2 of them and until recently before it died on me, I used it regularly to keep my beard in check. This is a new model, whilst it isn't leaps and bounds over what's out there, it does exactly what it says it does and exactly what it needs to do. It's small, lightweight and easy to hold, shaving around the face is easy and effortless, and keeping a nice clean line around a beard is easy to do with this.It comes with a few guards to adjust a trim height for your beard, whilst there isn't really anything for the longer beard, you can still achieve a small well kept one with the biggest guard of I think 8mm.My beard is much thicker and longer but this allows me to keep the sides in check and less bushy.I use this also to shave the sides of my head without the guard on to keep a nice close and clean look.A huge plus for this shaver too is the ability to use a usb cable to charge it! Instead of the usual charge plugs you get for shavers.

From opening the box I could tell the product is well made. It’s nice and weighty in the hand, feels very well built, and had adequate charge from the box for a first use. The little carry bag it comes with is a nice touch as well. The convenience of charging via USB is fantastic and I found that charging directly from a USB wall socket didn’t take as long as estimated either. The choice of attachments in the box is good, ranging from a close shave with the guard off, with 4 sizes up to 7mm. The performance itself was very good, with no pulling or snagging. I found that with the guard off entirely it did sometimes miss a few stray stubbly hairs but it didn’t at any point catch my skin so I can’t complain from that front! The only change I find this may have benefitted from is a slightly longer attachment, or possibly an adjustable attachment as I found the 7mm just a little too short for my preference. Can not fault the performance though! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The series 1000 trimmer is a much more lightweight machine than Philips other main shavers in the series. It is also the first I've seen with a USB charger and micro USB port, making it ideal for holidays where you can use a laptop or phone charger to charge it. That said, the downside is that you get around 60 minutes use from 8 hrs USB charging, which isn't great but would still be useful for someone who only needed a trim of their beard. The trimmer comes with 4 comb attachments for lengths from 0.5 (without a comb) to 7mm with the longest. I would have liked to see a longer comb but this is the budget friendly range from Philips. They do clip on easily and there's even a bag provided for the combs and shaver to carry it around, alongside a small cleaning brush for the head. The trimmer is simple to use, easy to clean (though I was surprised to find you can't run this one under the tap like others I've tried) and small enough to keep in a pocket if needed.

This product comes with a variety of different length adjustments, which are easily interchangeable and offer a wide variety of beard length options. I have used the beard trimmer everyday for the past 10 days and the battery life is still going strong with no signs of a reduced performance with decreasing charge. The blades are sharp and have quickly removed my facial hair (of varying lengths) with no challenge. Fine detailing is easy with this razor due to the small and lightweight design. Despite it being light and small the razor feels well built and robust, with a premium feel. Even with the shorter length blade guard attachments, the razor manages to evenly cut hairs and I did not find myself constantly going over the same difficult to trim patches. The only slight issue is the power button can be a bit stiff to push into the 'on' position (not remotely a big problem but worth a mention). [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Nice piece of kit, slim enough to easily fit in a wash bag for travelling, several different heads so should cover most beards and a natty little brush to clean with as well as a pouch to store the razor in. One of the things I have noticed in the past is these things tend to get blunt fairly quickly so it will be interesting to see if the blades really do self sharpen.Gives 60 odd mins of use after charging so should be good on a short holiday. Though the charging cycle is not so good at 8 hours. Charging is via a USB, guess that means that everyone needs to have a computer or something similar with the ability to charge via it’s USB. Fine when at home but not so sure if one is on holiday. It is very slim so should fit most hands, the body is smooth so may have problems if hands are wet. It is either on or off, single speed in other words. Does the job, just have some doubts re the charging method.

I’m so impressed with this trimmer. First of all the price - a good quality Philips trimmers for RRP £20 is great value. It comes boxed very compactly with most of the packaging recyclable - it’s maybe out the size of 4 toothpaste tubes joined together. There’s an initial charge when you take it out of the box so I was able to test it straight away. You get 4 different blade length attchements, a carry bag, a brush and a USB charging cable. I like the fact I can charge it through USB and I either plug it into my computer or USB plug. It’s great for travel as it’s very light. I was able to use it without looking at the instructions which shows you how easy it is to use.The attachments are a bit hard to tell apart but they do say on them their lengths. Overall I’m really impressed at what you get for your money and how easy it is to use. Highly recommend.

Now finally having used the shaver enough to comment, I'd recommend this little thing to anybody who loves a stubble beard or longer. What can I say this thing shaves close for an electric shaver to a point where I can decide not to wet shave after, It is smooth across the skin and precise enough not to purchase another device for shaping.I love the design the shape and colour and its is very light in the hand, I also love the fact I can charge it with a USB meaning I can use existing infrastructure, however there is a cable provided but no plug :( The extra combs that come with this product offer a varied cut for shorter and longer lengths its quite easy to find the length required. My onlyqualm I had with this was that the power button was abit stiff to a point where id need to [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
