I have used razor sets before, which were not Philips, and like these Philips Series 3000 Hair Clippers I used them for cutting hair at home. I dont have any salon or hair dressing knowledge or experience what so ever and these are the first set of hair clippers that I have had to review. These are corded clippers, which I think could be a deal breaker for some customers, it is not so easy to use corded clippers in a bathroom for instance where there are no power outlets, whether you are at home or travelling as there generally are not power outlets. It think this could be more significant if you are using it as primarily a beard trimmer and clipper than a hair trimmer or clipper. It is different to other hair clippers I have used before, including corded ones, in that the adjuster for what length to cut the hair is located on the back of the clippers as opposed to being a small lever at the top of the clippers next to the actual blades or involving a set of different attachments measured to different lengths. I am unable to comment about the lengths the clippers can be adjusted to being different to the standard "numbers" used in salon clippers for instance, it may be that you have to be willing to experiment with it. I did not find that, as reported by other reviewers, that the length adjuster slides when in use, in fact there is a button to press in order to move the scale and adjust it. The plastic attachments for shaving beard and hair feature a "trim and flow" idea, the up turn will in theory prevent hair getting caught in the comb, causing clogs, jams, hair being pulled or tugged out. I can see how this would work but my hair is already pretty short and so I did not notice any significant difference to other hair clippers. For people with longer hair or beards though this could be a stand alone feature that makes these worth buying. There has been some mention of the shape of the razor for grip, I included a picture as I did not think this was a problem. They are broadly similar in shape to other clippers, perhaps there is more of a curve or sharp angle, which could be about style as opposed to a design feature. I definitely did not think that this had a cheap plastic feel or anything suggesting a poor quality build, design, materials or susceptibility to damage. In terms of care and maintenance, I think this would be easier to maintain than a clipper requiring oiling regularly, I certainly like the self cleaning features of the blades and the blades remove easily to use the small brush to remove hairs or in order to rinse it with water and dry it and reattach it. I will revisit this review with any update as to whether or not there proves to wear and breakage problems over time, the short space of time I have used it to date no problems have been encountered. The sort of trimming it can provide, well, I used it with care and did not find it delivered an uneven cut. The clippers compared well to a much smaller beard trimmer with adjustable head which I own, and I am pretty sure is Philips also. However, it is not an electric razor and will not give you a smooth skin shave, I would also suspect that while it will cut hair on your head similarly very short it will not provide a clean, skin hair cut. It does not tug or pull hair or prove to be susceptible to jams which cause that, which is a bug bear of mine, especially if you are using the clippers on the back or sides of the head were it is less easy to reach when you are trimming it by yourself.

Amazon really ought to change its main photograph and the "box contains" bit of the product description: this product does not come with a charging stand or a hard case/storage pouch, which is a shame since they look quite nice in the promo photos.I've used hair clippers for years rather than going to the barbers, and on the scale of clippers I've used in the past the HC9450 is middling to above average - not quite amazing but nowhere near terrible. It's not as reassuringly heavy and clunky as a set of Wahl clippers, and not as easy to use on yourself as a palm clipper, but it does have a quick and easy way of setting the desired length. You just swipe and tap on the touch area to select the setting you want on the digital display. The only downside is that you almost have too many options: there are 400 length settings. The three combs you get are adjustable, all done via the touch control. If you need to change lengths/combs a lot you can set the clipper to remember three different settings per comb, all recalled using the M key. This is helpful if the clipper is going to be used on different people's hair. When you power the clipper on it auto locks, meaning you can't accidentally change the cutting length via the touch area while using it. The Auto Turbo feature doesn't seem to do much - it's supposed to increase the motor's power when it encounters particularly thick hair - but maybe my hair isn't thick enough to activate it. The device's titanium-edged blades slice through hair quickly and effortlessly - no complaints here in the cutting stakes.I'm quite impressed with the HC9450. It looks good, works well and I like the very modern way of setting the cutting length. I do wish it came with the charging stand and case shown in the photos though.

Bought this recently to replace my Babyliss clipper that was starting to snag a bit and wasn't holding its charge - barely managing to get through even one hair cut.My girlfriend took it to my head today and I'm really surprised by how smooth it was - it doesn't pull and no matter how thick the hair was it seemed to glide through it easily. She also said it's very light but much easier to handle than the Babyliss so a thumbs up from her :)The motorised combs are probably a bit of a gimmick and for me the chances are I won't really need to use many of the settings as I just tend to go for a short back and sides - but having the options there certainly do no harm, and the displays do make the device look pretty snazzy :)Having come from a traditional hair clipper with standard barber grade combs I found what the lengths were for each barber comb (I use 2 and 3) and then added the settings to the memory (the clipper comes with 3 combs and allows 3 settings to be stored for each comb, a great time saver). As I wasn't sure how the the traditional barber grades would translate into mm I used slightly longer settings initially and then gradually reduced the lengths until I got it just right - I then saved these to memory ready for the next time.On the whole this is a really good clipper but being able to set your length settings by .1 of a mm increments thus giving 400 settings is probably a bit overkill and the motorised comb are a but gimmicky but still, they do a great job and cut through even thick hair like a knife through butter. Really great value for money and also looks really nice, with a good weight and the maintenance free titanium blades should ensure they stay sharp for many years. An excellent product!

I have used clippers to cut my hair for over 10 years and these do a very good job. The clippers are much better than our old ones, which we had to throw away because they had blunted and kept catching and pulling my hair. In contrast these clippers were a revelation, cutting the hair easily, never pulling, and the convenience of not having a power lead is definitely a big step forwards. The clippers are also much lighter than our old pair, which my wife, who normally clips the Seahorse mane appreciates a great deal. The hair length is achieved via a virtual dial sliding your finger up and down it. Inserting one of the three cutting combs gives access to a different range of lengths and you can get the clippers to remember up to three settings, you can also set the hair length to 1/10 mm accuracy. They are good clippers and that is why they have 4 stars. It is at this point that I begin to wonder if this has seen the introduction of tech for techs sake, and why I have deducted a point. Philips do another set of clippers at nearly half the price that has a manual thumb dial, and only one comb that allows you to set the full range of cutting lengths. Said cheaper clippers also come with some beard combs and a plastic box to keep everything inside. I'm not sure that a pair of clippers with the ability to remember my hair clipping settings is worth the extra. I think the mechanical thumb screw is perhaps a better solution as there is less tech to go wrong. Maybe a hair dresser can make use of accurately cutting hair length to 1/10 mm, but we can't see the need. The package would also be improved by reinstating the plastic box.In summary: good clippers but Philips themselves do others which represent better value

I shave all my head leaving a gotee and have tried other shavers/clippers with bad results especialy as ive been loosing more eye sight over the last 2 years leaving me blind in one eye and 10% vision in the other. So being used to shaving my head all over was easy with this clipper and having my gotee length set by my wife in memory let me trim my gotee nicely with no hassles. The pictures you see of a battery half full and other icona all on at once never happens its simply sjowing all the possible icons for selling purposes as the battery icon flashes and changes colour or stays solid depending on what your doing but the battery icon does not gfill up and its not supposed to....weirdpictures.Also you dont get the docking stand for charging or the case shown in the video I complained about as thats for a slightly different model but dont let that put you off I use a bag/case from an older shaver and its all good.If a near blind person can use this no one has an excuse to not give it a try its perfect and the setting length is 0.5 unless you put on a comb as they call them then it knows you can change the length but not when no comb is fixed.Thanx for the great item Philips just a shame no case or docking station but from what i found out you cant buy them as they come with a version more than double the price of this shaver.Highly recommend for the ease of use ease of setting up memory settings and the amazing smooth cut it gives as straight as you need.Get one

This is a slight evolution over previous Philips mid-range hair clippers. Ergonomically it fits nicely in the hand and is made from decent quality materials. The rotary dial has an assured action and the power and turbo buttons fall easily to hand. They’ve done a minor redesign on the plastic comb attachments in that they no longer clog up with hair during more heavy-duty trimming sessions - although giving this redesign such a dramatic name as ‘Trim-n-Flow PRO’ is perhaps rather overstating its credentials somewhat. It works well enough though, but as the clogging of the comb was a problem created by its forebears it hardly seems worth giving this too much credit for just undoing a prior flaw. This shaver persists in using the standard Philishave power plug.I wonder if perhaps the days of this socket may be numbered. A USB-C socket might be more preferable and becoming more commonplace in household gadgets. They provide a useful travel pouch to keep it all together, which is nice, and the charge time of 1 hour for 90 minutes of use (and can be used on direct mains power as an alternative) gives it plenty of practical usage. I will say that the cutting length offered by the provided combs is a bit on the stingy side, and probably the primary reason why you might want to pay more as the model up from this foregoes the travel pouch but offers greater cutting length, which might be good if you have longer areas of hair or want to grow your beard out a bit.

This is amazing. I like my hair a lot longer on the top than the sides and I couldn't for the life of me find a decent hair clipper that would go a lot longer than a number 8. This goes right up to 42mm which is much longer than even I thought. It's perfect! The cut on this is also clean, fast, and unlike other hair clippers it doesn't miss bits that you have to keep going over and over to try and get. It needs no oil and really is the best clippers I've ever seen.If I had to be critical I'd say that the touch screen controls on the front are totally unnecessary. You select the length you want by rolling your thumb up and down (this adjusts the distance between the guard and the blade electronically)and then you press the power button lower down to lock in the length and start cutting. When it starts cutting it turns off the touch screen controls to stop you accidentally changing the length while you're cutting obviously. However, if you like to stop and start the device as you're using it you need to remember to keep your fingers away from the touchscreen when you stop the device or you'll accidentally change the length!Overall this is the best clippers I've ever seen or used, and is the ONLY clippers I've found for people who like their hair longer, as no other clippers will cut your hair up to 42mm as well as this one will. Highly highly recommended.

My last hair clipper was heavy, so this was a welcome reduction in weight. Especially surprised, since this is battery operated too.The length of hair trimming is altered through the use of a dial, rotated to move between lengths of hair. There are two different blade cover, one from 3mm to 15mm, the other from 16mm to 28mm. I've used many similar products over the years and none of them offered such flexibility in hair length - ideal for the perfect taper. There is a third blade guard used for 2mm and it can be used with no guard for the closest trim. Note that the 2mm option can be used on facial hair, although not for detail work. There are a couple of small issues. Firstly, there is no apron included, perhaps to keep cost down. Secondly, and more importantly, the clipper does drag somewhat, meaning that a tight control is required. Best to use one hand to pull the skin taut, raising hair and flattening skin, which eliminates resistance. There is a risk that once inertia is gained and resistance lessened, the clipper could skip and trim in an unwanted location. A bit of practice and the risk was mitigated, however I've not needed to such a thing with previous clippers.Overall though, I'm happy with it and glad the clipper, charger and parts are all stored in a bag, keeping it themtogether for their next use..

I've long thought it would be handy to have my own hair clippers, basically to do an occasional tidy-up so I can delay a visit to the barbers (or should that be hair stylist). This Philips set does the job quite well, though I must say I ask my wife to do it, I wouldn't trust myself with just a mirror for guidance (I'll most likely end up with a BoJo).I had the same problem as other reviewers about how to change the heads but do it once was enough and the (what the box says is) Trim-n-flow to keep cut hair away from the cutters is a clever idea. Charging up was easy and my wife said holding and using the clipper was no problem. It could be considered a bit expensive with only two cutters and a beard trimmer but the rotary dial on the unit raises and lowers the comb to whatever length of hair you want. A charger and carry bag is included too.My only criticism is the eight page little user guide that uses illustrations to explain the usage with no reference at all the rotary length dial I just mentioned. It's all very well to avoid spelling out the usage in various languages but some things just can't be reduced to images. Needless to say there is a multi-language, large, concertina fold-out about safety concerns and another with the warranty and a listing of the repair places around the world.

For the follically-challenged there can only be one dignified solution : a crop!I’ve been buzz-cutting my own hair with electric clippers for three decades andconsider myself an expert in this field. I was grateful for the opportunity, therefore,to test-drive this new Philips model. I aways use the shortest setting (0.5 mm), sothis review is not based on using the three graduated combs included in the set(my lovely locks have not been allowed to get that curly for many a long year!)The main body of the clippers is very light in weight and has an integral "digitalswipe" control which allows you, rather cleverly, to vary, by degrees, the cuttinglength. It also retains a "memory" of the last setting used for the next time around.Fully charged it delivers 120 minutes of buzz-time but it can also be used attacheddirectly to the mains. My only small quibble with the product is that the mains cablegets into a bit of a tangle. There's a little brush included to clean the cutting mechanism. It does the job just fine but doesn't possess the more "solid" feel-and-sweep delivered by myancient and considerably weightier Wahl model. (Hi-tech doesn't always equate with better).Expensive but impressive.

I’ve been using clippers for several years now, and mainly use wahl as I find them the best ones around. I was interested to see how these from Philips compare. In the box you get a power adapter, the clippers, a small brush and two attachments. One is for beard trimming, the other for hair. These clip onto the clippers and you adjust the grading by a sliding button on the clippers.Pros:The clippers are VERY lightweight, making them comfortable to hold and easy to manoeuvreThe design of the attachments and the gradient selector button mean you aren’t constantly changing attachmentsDecent length cordCons:Instructions are terrible, Philips have a habit of just providing instructions with illustrations rather than text, making it tricky to work out what to doThere is no oil included for the clippers, unlike in most wahl products. I find this essential to keeping the clippers runningYou must use these with the cord attachedOverall, a good product but it will take some getting used to if, like me, you are used to using different attachments. The results are good, a very even fade and the clippers are light and comfortable to hold

This is a great piece of kit. But do not pay more than £50. Not because it is not worth it but that is an average price in the UK.1. Take the time to look at several videos on YouTube to see how to cut your hair with electric clippers. There is one barber in the US who talks you through it.2. Get to know the clippers. without turning on the power. Put the various 'guards' in the clippers and turn the dial for different levels. If you are going shorth all over number 3,4,5 etc with shortest transparent guard fitted. If you want your hair onger, I suggest number 8 to begin with. Start at the sides, then the back, finally the top. When you come to the top,You will need to use your finger as the guide.2nd Buy a gown to stop the hairs going down your neck £5 and have a broom handy to sweep up the hair.Good luck. If you do not go too short at first you can adjust the clippers for a second attempt. These clippers are also good for trimming eyebrowsnb: Without the guards fitted, these clippers are very sharp. Be careful if you cut trimming elsewhere on your body and if you have moles on your head be careful not to cut them.

I use these clippers to mostly keep my sideburns and mid neck hair in check.I find that they work very well and this device holds its charge for a very long time - meaning it doesn't need to be constantly recharged. One of the cool functions is that you can digitally set the length you want - accurate to 0.1mm. This is quite funky and is a cool feature - though I do wonder what the actual merit is - I guess if you want to always have the exact same length you can do so, but it's not something I find myself using a lot.I do like how they cut - I use them instead of the blades ontop of my Braun/Panasonic shavers and they are so much better. They cut very efficiently and leave a nice finish which is great.I've also found the whole device easy to clean after use which is a nice bonus.I too was surprised to see no case included but as these now have their home in my bathroom, it's not exactly much hassle to keep it in one place.Given how well these cut and the easy adjustment I must say that this is a 5 star product - I doubt I'm going to have to change them anytime soon!

Here we have a set of hair clippers with three attachments for different cutting lengths. They're a good quality set of clippers that require no oiling, charge relatively quickly, retain charge well, but don't have any kind of pouch which is a bit of a pain. Those used to the numbered settings of WAHL clippers will be a little baffled but just to clear things up here are the equivalents in mm:1 - 3mm2 - 6mm3 - 10mm4 - 13mm5 - 16mmNow, these clippers will cut anything from 0.5mm to 42mm and they'll do so in mm increments which seems to be a level of accuracy more akin to bonsai topiary than hairdressing but there we go. The fact of the matter is that cutting your own hair is pretty tough, unless you're doing a number two all over, and if you're trusting the hand of someone else then why not trust a hairdresser?! That said, I made a pretty good fist of my first attempt, albeit leaving hair all over the place and myself. I'm sure I'll try again but a huge voice in my head wonders if it wouldn't be simpler (and better for the local economy) if I left it to the professionals.

A good set of clippers. They are light, easy to use and attractively designed. The cut is good and titanium blades are good quality and should stay sharp for a long time. You adjust the length electronically with a virtual dial that remembers your settings. Some people will like this while others may consider it a gimmick. The length can be set accurately to 0.1mm which in my view is way superior to settings for "number two", "number three" etc but if you do want those settings you will have to look up the conversion elsewhere. You can use them with or without a cord. The battery charges quickly and lasts long enough.you can use them with a cord if you forget to charge and are in a hurry but cordless is much easier. It comes with three different comb attachments which they inexplicably fail to provide a carry pouch for. If you are as organised as me you will probably lose them before long. This is not quite enough to deduct a star so I still give them 5 for the all round high quality. Please note, I am reviewing the product itself, not giving an opinion on the price.
