Short review: If you have a baby, small children, pets of any kind or just really value your hearing then this is the smoke alarm for you, but it now. It’s worth it.Long review: I’ve got two small cats and live in a very small flat in London, nearly every time I cooked I found the smoke alarm we got from Sainsbury’s would go off, scaring the cats half to death and leaving them running in a manic panic, panicking me and then having me jump up and down in the hallway wafting a towel or trying to reach for the fiddly little turn off button to silence it, in which time my food was burning and my pans overflowing. As others mentioned this nest protect comes from Amazon France, but it is cheaper (and I got the extra tenner in Amazons 'thank you' promotion the other week). As also mentioned the default languages is French and Dutch. The key to updating this to English, is to change in the app, and then leave both app and nest protect alone for 24 hours -the battery model takes this long to force the update from nest servers and download the English language (the wired version apparently happens a lot quicker). Having spoken to nest support, if you attempt to do the force update option (explained on their support site) or again select the language option in the app, you apparently reset the queue time!!

Can't understand negative reviews! Bought this after using a Nest start for almost a year which is also amazing and will pay for itself in 18 months from my experience. The smoke alarm does exactly what it is supposed to do and I hasn't realised when I ordered it that it has a proximity detector which turns on a light as soon as anyone enters it's space at night. Fabulous beautiful design. Tests itself silently every night. Tests is own alarms too at a present time to suit you by sounding and uses its built in microphone to listen to itself. Quid out from your phone anywhere. Test it from your phone at anytime, check out and house from phone at anytime.

This isn't the English language version, no idea why there isn't a warning.Addendum:Spoke to Nest and they were able to instruct me on how to change the language.Here is a link describling the procedure: https://nest.com/support/article/How-do-I-change-the-language-of-my-Nest-Protect.New review! Fantastic product, integrates with Hue (Switches on all the lights when the alarm goes off, simple but useful) and only seems to go off when things are actually burning! Nest were great to deal with so have updated the score to reflect those changes in the situation.

I inadvertently ordered the French/Dutch language nest protect however it's so simple to set up and once it's added to your nest account you can set the language to your preferred one, this will update overnight.
