Unfortunately, uses 9 volt battery (got tired of buying those expensive batteries, so I bought rechargeable NiMH 9v charger right here on amazon,{Caution Lithium Ion batts will NOT work ionization type smoke detectors / I've already made that mistake}.....very inexpensive for 2 bats and charger, BTW)…..so, since I'm a landlord and have 3 apartments here in Brooklyn that mandates I supply smoke detectors and this one fits the bill. I have it in my own apartment and it works quite well; just keep about 8 to 10 feet away from cooking stove and at a height where you can push the reset button! Ionization detectors are far more accurate at detecting "fire" smoke as they are not infra red operated!Kidde is a superb brand that I've been using for years and now I can just buy ONE when I need to replace every 7-10 years instead of a card of 2 or 3 like at Costco or big box store! Very inexpensive for what it is and trust me when I say I've bought too many of these that they almost seem disposable. BTW,...ALL of the smoke detectors now made have a lifetime of 7-10 years before you have to toss them! DEFINITELY WORTH THE COIN!UPDATE: 2/8/20....all of these are still working like gangbusters AND the price is now all of $4. Yep, NOT a typo $3.84 to be exact! Now that really IS a no brainer!Hey folks,...I spend a fortune in time, energy and money on stuff that I buy and use here on amazon so, if this review was HELPFUL,....well you know what to do! Thanks fellow consumers!UPDATE: 5/16/21.....apparently these have gone up in price to approx. $11.00,.....don't you just love human nature's ability to pique the "greed" factor out in so many of our fellow human beings?? I willl certainly buy as few things as possible from this point forward. I am really NOT predisposed to pay for private Taj-Mahal reflecting pools on private islands OR expensive divorces. Are You??I guarantee this addendum will not make it past amamzon big brother censor! You really should be red and bald faced ashamed at what you do with price manipulation. It's not ALL trade embargoes....it's lets get filthy rich at our LOYAL customers' expense, eh Jefferoonie??

All homes should have a smoke alarm as a matter of safety, several in fact and I did indeed already have 2 fitted. They were not wired to the mains and were battery operated, but the problem with battery operated smoke alarms is their limited battery life. What drew me immediately to this superb smoke alarm was the 10 year battery life! The unit comes complete with its own built in Lithium ion battery. That’s very impressive to say the least and leaves you feeling safe and secure once its fitted. Mine is now fitted upstairs and I know I don’t need to worry about its battery for a decade. Excellent! It arrives simply boxed and includes a comprehensive instruction leaflet that advises on how to fit it,where to fit it and also it ships with 2 screws and raw plugs to enable you to fit it.One thing I learnt when I read the instruction leaflet was that Photoelectric smoke alarms are better at detecting and alerting you to slow smouldering fires that smoulder for hours prior to bursting into flames. I felt extremely reassured by this information that prior to reading that leaflet, I didn’t even know!I like the fact also that the unit has an operating LED light which flashes every 53 seconds to confirm to you that the unit is working and protecting you and there is also a low battery warning alarm ( beeps every 40 seconds) which I haven’t actually heard as my unit is new but I’m glad its there so that when my alarm battery is running low I will be aware enough to do something about it rather than leaving me unprotected.I received this product discounted in order for a unbiased product review

This works great, house still hasn't burnt down, and nobody has died of smoke inhalation.I remember this time my neighbours house was on fire at about 1am, and I could smell it come through the walls so I ran outside and absolutely hammered their door down trying to wake them up, and the neighbour opened the door and I said "your house is on fire" and she replied "I don't think so..." while her stairwell was so full of smoke I couldn't see past halfway the stairs. Turns out they never checked the batteries in their smoke alarms, and also I was right and their house was on fire, but the fire services dealt with that in the end.Seriously, everyone needs this in their home, and needs to make sure it works.I mean, not necessarily this smoke alarm specifically, but get a fine smoke alarm. It is 10 quid and saves your life. Why is this something people even need to be told?! I'm just saying, I don't live next door to all of you, right? That would be too much to ask.

The smoke alarm is quite neat and unobtrusive, comes with a battery and all screws and plugs needed to put up. A mounting plate is screwed to wall or ceiling then only a small twist is needed to secure main unit to mounting plate.Had 2 for a month and one went off when someone left open bathroom door after showering. Unit about 1 metre away! Then one night 3am the other went off at random without cause. There's a hush feature on these units so easy to cancel without taking battery out.Knocked off a star because of the last random going off. Only done it once in a month!I would recommend this product for the cost and peace of mind.

I can definitely say this is the tiniest smoke detector I have ever seen. But it is durable feeling and installs solid and easy. As far as I can tell it is just as good as the typical sized smoke detectors. The small size makes them less noticeable which I think is nice and aesthetically pleasing especially since an item like this is meant to be installed in many places throughout your home. As far as knowing how well they work I can't say and hope I never have to, but we test them regularly and will replace the batteries as needed and I feel confident that they will work as intended.

I installed these last fall. And they may have just saved my life. I woke up to them going off one night, and found my house full of smoke. Turns out my boiler had malfunctioned and was close to exploding as it was very overheated. So, not to say another detector couldn’t have also alerted me, but these definitely work!I love that they are small and not expensive. Instead of permanently mounting them, I used small command strips and placed them On the ceilings outside our rooms and high on the wall in the kitchen. It’s nice to be able to move them if I decide to.

After moving to a new home and realising there were no smoke alarms at all, I had to get some quickly. With all the expense of moving I didn't want to break the bank. However, I wanted something quality that would work. After looking around in local shops Kiddie seems to be a very popular brand, and I've seen this smoke alarm a few times at a higher price. It was a good bargain and it arrived within two days, which I thought was brilliant. I also bought the Kiddie carbon monoxide alarm. They were both easy to get in place and came with batteries. No fuss needed.

It's just a smoke detector, but I like it. We have two of these. One is about four years old and is in a dining room near our kitchen. We know it works because if we screw up and burn some food, it goes off, like clockwork. It is very loud. I usually reach up and twist it off the base and toss it in a room further away, then put it back later. With the price of these detectors, there is really no excuse not to have the recommended number of detectors in your home. We do have a few higher-end dual-sensor types in key locations just to be on the safe side.

Replaced the one we had in a rental. Looked like the same specs as the previous one but I read reviews stating it doesn't go off at the tiniest hint of smoke and there's no exhaust fan above our stove, I cook with cast iron, our rental house is less than 900sq.f.t and half of that is upstairs, also my husband likes steak. So our old alarm was going off CONSTANTLY and my husband just ripped it off the wall one day. This one has been up for a week and I have tested it and it works but it isn't going off every time I sear a steak or boil water. Thank God.

Due to both my smoke alarms deciding to go non operational, I looked for alarms that represented good value whilst able to do the job, these arrived complete with a battery, from opening the first pack to fitting it took 5 minutes and was really easy, there is a test button to prove operation, but more recently I was having work done in the bathroom and the alarm which is on the landing ceiling picked up the fumes from a plumbers blowtorch with the door closed, the sound of the alarm could be heard clearly from down stairs... that will do for me

My Mom was complaining that the " Lifetime", Meaning about 5 year lithium I had installed was waking her up as it neared end of life, so she demolished it with a broomstick rather than reset it.This is a very simple 9 volt battery powered Smoke detector with one reset button for her to negotiate-Its the only button visible so she can't miss resetting it by pushng the button with the same broomstick. I'll have to replace the battery going forward with each time change but its plenty loud and very simple so it should not give her any problems.

This was a replacement for an existing i9040 that died after 10-15 years. This one is a new improved model with a great feature. I have it located in the kitchen and we generate smoke if we're broiling in the oven or cooking a lot of bacon on top of the stove. The old one would go off and we'd have to take it down until we were finished cooking. This one has a nice disable feature that shut off the detector for 8 minutes. It flashes every 45 seconds to let you know it's disabled. After 8 minutes it goes back into normal mode. Great!

We have this modern in our kitchen attached to the wall with command hook strips so it can be taken down. While the hush function works well it is sensitive to normal cooking smoke from the oven (which it is right next to) so we have to hush it a lot while cooking. The unit in the next room over never goes off even when we burn toast so it’s probably a matter of placement. Still I’d rather have false alarms then have it not go off for a fire. Unlike more expensive models this one takes 9V batteries which I change every 6 months.

Thear alarms are smaller but work just fine and the price point is an amazing value for alarms that are necessary and lifesaving. After putting one up it went off just from just a small amount of cigarette smoke! (I am not the smoker) which is very good in the event of ashes smoldering as accidents do happen. The price alone is worth getting the maximum limit of 6 allowed. They can be gifted to persons in need. They even include batteries which saves a lot of money. Overall, an excellent buy for Kidde, a respected brand.

Simple to install and batteries seem to last and last, but when they're low, it chirps to let you know. It does not look too obtrusive either, which is good as some smoke alarms can be quite large and ugly to look at.I don't see any reason why you should be concerned as to the reliability of these, but if you are, then you could mix brands of smoke alarms around your house.I would highly recommend grabbing some if you don't have any and while you are at it, look at buying some 9v batteries off Amazon to stock up.
