I decided to replace my existing Firex 120-1123c units, one upstairs and one downstairs, hard wired, inter-connected as I have been in the house for coming-up 10 years. Although they weren't showing signs of fault, that is the recommendation. After much googling and reading, these were the closest I could get but I wasn't sure if, when they arrived, they would require a re-wire of the ceiling connector. I even rang Kidde who couldn't be sure as my previous model was not on their docs. The answer is, they fit perfectly. It took me about 10 mins to do both alarms - get a chair, get the old one off, fit the backup battery to the new one, fit the new one to the ceiling-mounted housing and twist it to lock.I didn't even have to replace the ceiling housing that the main smoke alarm box 'screws' into, but these units come with a full ceiling mount and wiring loom if you do need new stuff.

I have wired smoke alarms which are earlier versions of the current model. It was recommended to replace my older alarms after 10 years. I was concerned that they may not be backwardly compatible. They are. No electrician required - merely unscrew the alarm from the base, unplug lead, and replace with the new version. (Do not forget to isolate the power supply beforehand - fuse box/circuit breaker). Over the years these have given me no trouble. No false alarms and easy to replace backup battery. I have three newer alarms of a different make which have gone off accidentally several times and deactivating them in a hurry by prising off the cover (often in the middle of the night)is not as easy as unscrewing. In summary a reliable, backwardly compatible alarm with easy to remove covers (unscrewing). Great value and highly recommended. Prompt service from supplier.

Many thanks to the other reviewers for advising that this is a direct replacement for the one shown in the Amazon image (which was the one I had) and can be retrofitted without any further work. You helped me enormously!I bought a new battery when mine started 'pipping', then saw that I should've replaced the alarm itself years ago. This arrived quicker than expected and was indeed very straightforward to mount and fit. It comes with the AC power wires should you/r electrician need them though. The 9v battery back-up (also included) now snaps into the unit which is a welcome improvement. The flashing red light indicators have changed slightly too,so keep the leaflet somewhere safe.Excellent value for money for peace of mind.

I have to say these were hard to find but perfect for the job. We had our wired fire alarm installed in 2008 and had no idea that you needed to replace them. Only when one of the old units weas setting off the alarm did we realise that they should have been replaced 5 years ago. So I set about contacting companies to find a replacement for the "Firex 120-1123C". It wasn't until I Googled my old product did this one pop up and reading the review and question answers I purchased one first to check. After I found out they were right I bought the others. Very simple job to take the old one out and replace the unit and base cradle.Very happy with the purchase.

Perfect transaction. Could not be better. Arrived next working day - very well packed and very well priced. This design hasn't changed for at least 17 years to my certain knowledge as I bought these to replace the originals in my house built in 1995. They just swapped over in minutes with the connector remaining exactly the same and fits the new alarm perfectly. They're now called KF1 whereas they used to be 4870 and 1240C before that. An Ionisation type alarm. Comes with Alkaline battery in the pack. They do an 'Optical' matching item called KF2....they recommend having both types and I'd agree with that.....it's not just sales patter.Recommended.

This alarm was chosen because it stated to be compatible with the 123/9HI but it isn't. The connector is different and so is the base. The whole idea was to screw the old, out-of-date' one off and the new one on -no chance. I had to completely remove the old one, rewire it and re-mount the new one. Any other alarm would have been just as compatible. I'm giving it 4* because Kidde is good and has served me well in the past . . but they do need a compatibility kit.

replaced a smoke alarm fitted by the builder 9 years ago now, didn't know they had a lifespan of up to 10 years, after replacing the backup battery in my old one 3 times I figured it was the sensor. Anyway this fits perfectly into the space previously occupied by the old one, which was in a dry wall socket box, removed the old sensor, and old mounting connected new leads and fit new alarm, less than 5 mins. ordered another for the upstairs alarm too.

These were a direct replacement for my old smoke detectors that had stopped detecting. Don't trust the little test button as that only checks the circuits, not the detection ability. I used a smoking paper taper and wafted it under the old detectors and they did nothing. These new ones work as expected. They have a life expectancy of 10 years before the ioniser dies. Don't be complacent, check your smoke detectors properly and regularly.

This was very simple to change over from the old out of date one, it simply plugged into the old backing plate and plug in power connector... just as hoped for. They is a plastic strip in this which is pulled out to complete the battery circuit then press the plastic button on the face of the unit for an audible alarm signal indicating the alarm is operating and the same button glows green indicating it is powered from the mains...

They came quickly with the batteries and with clear instructions. They were exactly like my previous ones and slotted into the existing fitting. The fitting for the electrical connection is very simple. It only involves pressing into place, although it strongly advises that the electricity is switched off while you do it. Like changing a light bulb, but with the extra precaution of closing the circuit while fitting. They work well.

Ordered this to replace an existing smoke detector. It arrived within two days and we were lucky enough that it fitted the existing ceiling plate of our old one. Thankfully now it has been replaced it doesn't keep going off in the middle of the night like our last one did. Excellent service and will definitely purchase another one when our other smoke detector gives up. An added bonus is that it arrived with a battery included.

i ordered three of these smoke detectors for my home and they were identical to the ones that were already installed. They were easy to install and give me great peace of mind. Hopefully i will get many years use from them and good value for money. I was informed when then they were promptly despatched.Unfortunately, once again, i was let down by Royal Mail. I am now retired and can still not get anything delivered by them.

Very Happy with this product. Website was clear that this was the updated model of the previous one installed in my house ten years ago that is no longer made. Ordered two of them. They arrived very promptly (standard delivery), and even I (DIY failure), installed them both in a matter of a few minutes. Very reassuring to have new smoke alarms installed - had never previously know they need replaced every ten years. Thank you

Firex Smoke Detectors (48070 Kidde) were first installed in my house some 18 plus years ago. I made purchase of the property 12 years ago and have twice replaced these smoke detectors on 2 occasions. I find them to be an excellent product, low cost, easy to replace when necessary and none obtrusive when fitted on the ceiling on the up and downstairs of the hallway. A great product and for me, a must.

Bought this to replace one that was fitted to a house we recently bought - the original white plastic was yellow with age and inside recommended changing in 2004 (now 2018) so I was unsure whether the new module was compatible - it was, even the mounting ring was the same so I changed the original yellowed one very easily by untightening two screws and twisting off. No more bleeps in the night.
