This is a handy little unit that will either fix to a wall with the supplied screws and plugs, or stand on a shelf with the built-in plastic feet. I liked that it was a sealed unit – so no messing about with AAA batteries. It has a claimed functional life of 7 years. This makes allowance for the recommended weekly alarm test. The instructions suggest that battery life may be longer than this, but the unit itself needs replacing in 7 years. It is 5” x 3” and a little over an inch fat. The display has two modes – room temperature (?) and Carbon monOxide (CO) ppm. It only registers CO levels of 10 ppm and above. From the instruction book: 35ppm is the maximum allowable concentration for any continuous 8 hour period for a healthy adult. The alarm sounds when 50 ppm is registered for 60-90 minutes. It sounds a bit sooner if the levels are 100 ppm and within 3 minutes if exposed to CO concentrations of 300 ppm or higher. 300 ppm is only life-threatening after several hours exposure. The instruction book encourages annual testing of the sensor with a CO source (they suggest an incense stick) held under the sensor. You put the unit into a special test mode by holding down the test button. To use you just pull out the clip that prevents battery discharge and it’s up and running. Then place the sensor between 1 and 3 metres from the potential source of CO. I have some old gas appliances so I wanted to make sure they were ok. The gas fire in the living room registered 0 ppm after several hours use. The kitchen was a different story. With two rings and the grill in use it registered, momentarily 13ppm, but stayed at 10 ppm for most of the time the burners were in use. While no CO would be best, the fact it registered small amounts suggests that it is functioning as required, so I’m quite happy with it.

This gets a which best buy, (important, because there are some out there, even on Amazon, that are frankly dangerous, in that they don't report dangerous levels of CO) It wasn't overpriced either. It does have a display which helpfully displays temperature most of the time. This is handy, because if there's sufficient Carbon Monoxide about that you are going to pay attention to this alarm, you really shouldn't be hanging around reading the CO PPM ( Parts Per Million) display., making it otherwise pretty pointless. But it displays temperature too, so that's OK. (although for the cautiously curious, it does allow you to 'test' it - if you attempt to do so, please do it outside!)So pleased with it.Sealed for life battery - that apparently lasts 5 years, which is also good as this is the expected useful life of the CO sensor or indeed, any CO sensor -they get 'poisoned' eventually, and will no longer correctly reflect the CO level. That's tedious, as you need to replace them - but this 'sealed for life' approach means that it won't let you carry on using it after it is no longer safe to do so. Remember folks - carbon monoxide is odourless, colourless, and binds to the blood cells better than oxygen - so it kills real quick, and it takes a long time for the sub lethal effects to pass.If this thing squeals, get out, stay out - don't muck about..

I love this CO detector. Most importantly it actively shows the carbon monoxide concentration - unlike some competitor devices (First Alert) that only show the number if an alarm is triggered. I also like the fact that you can also show room temperature which is a nice value-add. And the alarm is very loud (unlike First Alert alarm which is pretty quiet). The small negatives are the fact it beeps very loudly as you push the button to switch between CO detector mode and temperature mode - and the flashing light. I realise that the flashing light is there to show the batteries are still working, but it's really annoying in a completely dark room. It's the same flashing light that you will notice in most hotel rooms,so I guess most people find it fine - but I would prefer to stick to just that chirping bird noise as the battery gets low - or just flashing light when the battery is about to die rather than when the battery is fine. However, I plan to get round to painting some tip-ex on the clear plastic which will block out that light so quite easy to fix that problem. This device was purchased after a careful review of all comments on CO detectors on Amazon, and I'm satisfied that this is the best device out there.

Never bought a CO monitor before. A good unit if you want to see CO levels rather than just wanting an alarm to sound if CO rises. The alarm monitors how much CO over time and calculates accumulative exposure. That's what I call sophisticated. It is also easy to set up and use.It is a sealed unit with lifetime battery (5 years?) which starts only when you pull out the blank. Great to be able to see running CO levels (mostly zero of course) and room temperature if you want. Will also hold 14 day peak level which is very useful. We had concerns about the neighbour's boiler outside our bathroom window, but no evidence of any problem as yet.A small niggle is that to look at the stored history or switching to temperature display involves going through the combined function check with the mighty loud alarm test - good that the alarm is loud but the wife doesn't like it when I do it. There is also a momentary bright LED flash every minute to indicate it is working. We had the monitor beside the bed and the wife was disturbed by the flashing in the night. It didn't bother me and was a small price to pay for peace of mind while sleeping. Easy to fix with a piece of tape or move to another location if it bothers you.

We're getting a gas fire installed and as I already bought one of these for my boat a couple of years ago I went for another rather than the cheap rubbish the gas installers use.The first one was tested by running the car engine outside and bringing the alarm anywhere near the exhaust have anmalarm so very sensitive even outside. And it's still working dispite the very harse damp salty atmosphere in a boat. It's got a 7 year battery life which is great because we all know that smoke alarms and co alarms always beep at three in the morning to let is know the battery is low and it usually takes three months to remember to get new batteries which cost £3 at least so over 7 years this is cheaper than the batteries alone !It's dead easy to setup, just remove the clip shown in the photo and screw or stick it to the wall and job done.If you go on holiday you can take it with you so it's worth keeping the little pink to disable the battery when travelling. If you have any sort of gas appliance, or wood or coal burner you definitely need one as carbon monoxide is a silent deadly killer that claims far too many lives. And it was cheaper on Amazon than the local shops.I guess I'm happy then ?

I have read most of the reviews and agree with them all about the product being good. I have given it a 5 star as i have no issues with the product, nor do i question its reliability. However, i am unable to compare it to anything else as i have never needed a CO detector before. I recently purchased a brand new flueless gas stove for my living room hoping it would be cheaper to use than my electric heaters. The stove burns off a butane gas cylinder hence my reason for purchasing this unit.My friend has a detector but not a digital one. It just goes off if the levels are high so seeing a ppm reading on the unit can be un-nerving for those who do not fully understand levels of ppm.The only error is the manual suggests a 65mm diameter for the holes (if mounting on a wall)but i would recommend measuring the distance between the holes in the unit as 65mm is too shortMy only issue is that my ppm reading was 0ppm up to 3 hours after turning my heater on, then went up to 10ppm, then went back down to 0ppm. After an hour it went up to 12ppm then to 11ppm then 10ppm then 0ppm. This happens within a matter of minutes. I have no clue as to why that should be? Does anyone else have this?

I bought one of these 7 years ago and it has sat there silently, gently flashing every 5 minutes or so, indicating 0 CO on the digital readout. I went to a friend's house the other day and found hers (different make) in a saucepan of water on the draining board because its battery had finally gone flat and woke her in the night. I was amazed it was still working although it had been under water for 12 hours. Anyway, I ordered her a Fireangel because I can't fault mine: I'm not dead yet! The new one has arrived and it is possibly nicer than the old one - it has a few extra functions that I hadn't noticed on mine, such as a thermometer (yawn!) and also a sensor test mode, where you can test it by holding a joss stick near it (I only briefly read her instructions. I think in test mode, the LCD shows you how much CO the joss stick is emitting, but the alarm doesn't go off). Also it doesn't flash, which is probably a good thing - it just has a little intermittent symbol on its LCD display instead to show that it is working. Now after 8 years mine clicks every 5 or 10 minutes when it's cold, so the battery is probably low and it's time for me to buy another.

I bought this to monitor carbon monoxide in a room which contains a gas fire. I liked the idea that it had a battery which should last the lifetime of 6 to 7 years - there are other devices on the market which offer lifetime of 10 years but I though that replacement after 7 years was reasonable. It is supplied with screws for wall-fitting but I didn't really want to look at it so I have it free-standing on a shelf. I also liked the display of CO concentration in parts per million which I prefer to just having an alarm sounding. On receipt I found the instructions easy to understand and one of the first things I did was to set up the unit in its test mode and check out the operation with therecommended burning joss stick - everything worked as described which gave me confidence that it would actually operate in a life-threatening situation. The battery is activated on first use by removing a wire jumper which should be retained in case it is necessary to deactivate the device. I thought that was a good idea so that it could be taken away and used for example in holiday accommodation if required.

The product is just fine especially with its digital display. This is a replacement for an identical unit that was just over 7 years old and beginning to make itself known that it was replacement time - so the 7 year battery life claim is totally justified!I had no problems with the previous unit so can only assume that this will be the case for the next 7 years. The unit is installed close to my non-condensing gas central heating boiler and now is sited at the recommended distance and height - such information is contained in the downloaded instruction manual which I would recommend you do if one is not supplied! In the manual it does describe how to test it for Carbon Monoxide detection so that you can be confident of its reliability. There is a 'key'provided which is removed in order to activate the detector (i.e. connect to internally fitted battery). This can be replaced if you want to take it on your travels and reactivate at your destination which may be of interest to some.Read full review...

This item has dual functions namely a carbon monoxide alarm and a thermometer. I would have awarded 5 stars except the thermometer is only accurate within 2 degrees centigrade as confirmed by the manufacturer. Although the main function is as a CO alarm I believe that either the user should be given the means to calibrate the temperature display or the feature should be deleted. In its present form it is only a general indication. It is recommended to be wall mounted using the wall plugs and screws provided. The screws slot into the back of the unit. The spacing between the screws must be accurate (a template is provided) otherwise it will not hang on the wall.I suggest one plug and screw should be fitted first then a careful measurement taken to make sure the second plug and screw are going to line up in the correct position before drilling the hole in the wall. Apart from these comments it is a fine alarm, neat in appearance and should last for 7 years as covered by the guarantee.

This is the 3rd one of these that I have bought - 1 being for a relative. Nice little piece and easy to set up and use/read. Has a green light which flashes once every minute to let you know that it is working. Unfortunately one of ours malfunctioned shortly after we bought it - the loudness of the alarm is very good and I'd say would wake up even the heaviest sleeper. Ours was blasting through the house and a red light was flashing rapidly on the front. We immediately opened all doors and windows and contacted the emergency number for potential carbon monoxide leaks. The house was found to be safe as were our neighbours and it was put down to a simple malfunction.I did have the alarm positioned right next to a vanilla reed diffuser though and the alarm smelt very strongly of vanilla. The engineer said he didn't think that would be the cause but could not rule it out. Just a word of warning there for when you are placing your alarms. Overall I would recommend these to all.

There are various types of Carbon Monoxide (CO) detectors on the market, but this one has to be one of the best out there. Even the CO Angels website (an organisation campaigning to raise awareness of CO poisoning) have partnered up with Fire Angel to reduce the incidence of CO poisoning.Gives clear instructions where to fit it. Looks modern and trendy, and even has a thermometer function so it can be the thermometer in your room as well. The digital readout is a useful feature as it will show you the reading. But one brilliant bonus is that it will record if it detected any CO in your absence. Have you ever wondered if CO could be building up in your property when you're out at work or anything? It may be an early warning of a faulty system that you wouldn't have known about if you weren't there when it actually alarmed. And there no battery to look after or worry about. So all you need to do is give it a periodic clean and test.

I am happy with my purchase. I was doubtful due to some of the review stating that they have rested the product but it does not work. These people cannot have read the instruction manual fully as it clearly explains How it works and where to place the alarm. The tests mentioned by other reviewers are unfair.I love how these come with wall attachments and they can also be freestanding, as shown in my photo. This is a great feature as it means I can take them with me when visiting hotels/caravans etc.The manual is informative and simple to understand and wrtten in English, not translated. It is clearly intended for The British market as there is British rested safety advice and telephone numbersof the UK Gas board etc.The test is loud so I have every faith that this will work well to wake me up.The screen is reassuring as you can monitor the co2 level against the reference in the manual.I hope you found this helpful.

I bought the twin pack of these so that I could give one to my parents and keep one for myself. My parents have central heating and have installed it about two meters away from the boiler, where as I have an open coal burning range so though I'd but these to monitor our houses for problems with carbon monoxide. The unit looks modern and is quite stylish to look at, the display can be changed to show either ambient temperature or CO levels with a push of the single test button. The alarm is very loud and has a flashing LED warning that lights up the front of the display. The unit comes with a sealed battery that should last for a couple of years, the display occasionally flashes green to show that the battery is working correctly (this may be a problem if used in a bedroom).I think these are some of the best looking detectors that I've seen and were very reasonably priced. Worth every penny for a bit of peace of mind.

Bought this for a recent gas 'woodburner' installation, to conform to building/fire regs. This unit is neatly designed and easy to fix in position. Apart from being manufactured by a respected company, I went for this model as it has 3 significant benefits over many other CO alarms:1. - 7 year 'sealed for life' unit (fit and forget) - particularly useful where a landlord may need to install a number of alarms2. - NO BATTERY TO CHANGE for the full 7 year life expectancy. This is very useful for situations where the property is in use for long periods by others, eg. rental tenancy and holiday accommodation. (Also it is not unknown for batteries to 'go missing' from rental properties, leaving occupants unprotected from possible CO leaks)!(I must mention I do not know if it will last for 7 years, as this is the first I have recently bought).3. - LCD display shows visual readout of low level CO detection over time
