I bought a few of these as we just had pellet stoves installed in our home. I did some research on which ones have good sensors and which brands are reliable... etc, and this make and model came up over and over, so I went with it. I'm very safety conscious so when they arrived I wasn't going to just press the test button and assume they work fine, as I'm relying on these things to save the lives of my family and me. So, I put them to the test.Smoke: I stuck them with double-sided tape temporarily on the ceiling while I tested them. Firstly I tried cigarettes, well a cigar actually. My partner and I don't smoke, but I enjoy a once a year cheeky cigar at Christmas.General normal smoking won't set them off unless you're blowing the smoke directly into the detector or maybe if you have a party and lots of people are smoking.Blowing out a single candle is not enough to set them off which is great, but 3 or more candles being blown out will.Over-cooking toast or any food, heating oil in a frying pan... etc will set them off if they're within 20m. I've purposely repeated these tests multiple times and in different rooms to make 100% sure they're working fine and placed correctly.Carbon Monoxide: I tested them by starting my car in the garage and leaving it running for a little while, I also tested them by starting my generator in my shed/workshop. I placed the detectors on a top shelf 30-40cm from the ceiling. CO detectors are not designed to sound an alarm immediately upon detecting any CO, as a small amount is perfectly safe, they check the levels of CO and if they increase continuously over a short time, then they sound an alarm as this would mean you have a leak somewhere, or they will sound the alarm if levels suddenly spike above a dangerous level if you had a sudden and large leak. So, with a modern catalytic car running in a large double garage the alarms all sounded after roughly 6-7 minutes and they all went off within 30 seconds of each other. I stood in the garage once they had sounded the alarm and after 2 or 3 minutes I could feel a very slight tingly feeling over most of my body, so I would judge that levels of CO in there were high enough that you would start to feel bad after 10-20 minutes but not danger to life levels. So in conclusion, they're sensitive but too sensitive, which is exactly what you want. The alarm is a siren and voice alert, the sirens are different for smoke and CO making it easy to distinguish and extremely loud (no way any normal person could sleep through them), and the voice alert is clear, precise and adds some urgency in my opinion. Hearing a typical smoke alarm siren going off can sometimes, if set off regularly, be brushed off or not given full attention, but hearing a siren and then a human voice shouting: "EMERGENCY! Smoke (or Carbon Monoxide) detected, evacuate... evacuate!" really makes you sit up and pay attention.TL;DR - I tested them multiple times both with smoke and CO, they work perfectly. We now feel much safer in our home. 5/5 would recommend.

My old Kidde combi alarm had reached its end-of-life and I was interested to see they had discontinued that for this newer model. I've had a few of the older ones and none have ever given me a problem.I was wary of the number of reviews that spoke of false alarms, but eventually decided it was worth a try. I bought two. One of them did give a completely unprovoked false alarm a week after it was installed, but otherwise they have been ok. (It has been nearly 4 months since purchase, I will update this review if problems occur.)This model has a front-loading 9V battery rather than the old rear-loading 3xAA. I can see the benefit in ease of battery change but, for something you do once per year at most, does it really matter? The 9V battery is typically shorter life and more expensive, and the door is rather ugly.On the other hand this has a lifetime of 10 years instead of the 7 of the old one, so that's nice. For anyone else in a similar position to myself, you might like to know the wall/ceiling mount is compatible with the previous model. I just kept the old mount in place. It's just worth pointing out that people seem to get a little over-obsessed with smoke alarm sensitivity and performance They are invaluable as a device to potentially save your life in the event of a fire while you're asleep, but they do not of themselves prevent fires or guarantee your safety! By far the best way to not die in a fire is to not set fire to your house in the first place! The number of times I've seen people get a false sense of security by using them as a "safety net" for doing stupid things that they know might cause a fire is unbelievable. <Rant over!>

This is a good alarm. Has got one multifunction button for test/reset as well as silent mode in case alarm goes off.Installation is relatively simple although it could be even better. It's a bit more tricky if you want to install it on the wall instead of ceiling and want the signs to be levelled. It's not the biggest alarm I've seen and not the smallest either. The battery compartment is brilliant, with a click mechanism to lock it in place. Located right under the button, you don't need to remove the alarm to get to it. It has 'child protection' in case your kid feels like 'disarming' it (both battery and the unit itself). The battery is 9v (the rectangle one).Obviously it doubles as CO2 and smoke alarm (don't mix it up with natural gas alarm - one you'd like to have for gas cookers - it doesn't have that). Some reviews mention it started giving them issues with going off without reason. Where you end up placing the unit is quite important. If you put it too close to the source of smoke, you risk it going off every time you cook. Same for strong drafts, if you place it on it's way, it may kick in more often than you want it. Also distance from corners is important...In general, you'll be fine if you read instructions that come with the unit.At the moment it seems to be working fine for my parents, got one for my brother too. I can recommend it as you can never be too careful about CO2 and fires.

I bought this to install in my newly bought house which already had a smoke detector installed but I wanted a 2 in 1 so I can keep myself, my family and my property safe in case of emergency related to either smoke, fire or gas leakage. It came securely packed within a couple of days of ordering and was brand new. There was a well written one page manual with pictures describing how to install and use it.However, the product is designed in a way that its very user friendly and its easy to see how you would install it.I just removed my old one and had to drill holes to fit the holder onto the ceiling on which the main unit sits. Once I had 2 holes on ceiling,I put the holder on with screws and then the main unit glides on it like a charm. All in all took 2 mins to install. If you don't have a drill, you can stick the base unit with double sided tape to a wall or ceiling. There is a test button to check if battery is fine and unit is working which gives you not just beeps but voice instructions as well if it's fire or carbon monooxide.Fortunately we have not had any issues so far and alarm has not gone off but It I have tested it few times and it seems to be doing fine.Think its an essential for everyone buying a new house or moving into a new rented place. Stay safe!

I bought one of these (Kidde model 10SCO) to replace a Kidde model 0122UK which recently came to the end of its 7 year operational life. The model 10SCO was made on 9 April 2016, so quite new! It came with a fitted Duracell 9v battery "best before Mar 2020", with plenty of charge remaining. The battery is supposed to last for one year, which - if true - is much shorter than the 3 years I got from the 3xAA batteries in the model 0122UK. Time will tell. The new alarm fitted the mounting bracket for the old model 0122UK, so that saved me drilling more holes in the ceiling! The User Guide seems comprehensive and is written in plain English. Improvements over the model 0122UK are 10 year working life (an extra 3 years)and a Hush button to turn off the Smoke alarm for 10 minutes at a time. Of course, it may be several years before I know whether it is as reliable and as cheap to run as my old model 0122UK!

Five star reviews on Amazon are stated as "I Love It" Bit strong for a combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, "I love my Kidde combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm" hardly a conversational piece in your local brewery "I love my Kidde combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm" or a chat up line "I love my Kidde combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm" (even the dregs at the end of the night would drunkenly shuffle off). However it is louder than it needs to be so if you're a regular toast burner have ear defenders at the ready. That about sums up my review of this Kidde combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, which I love.So to conclude this is the best Kidde combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm...if you're wondering the repetitiveness in this literary tosh I have a bet with the misses I can mention how much I love it, she doesn't know this yet but she owes me a tenner.

It's loud. Boy is it loud as I recently discovered after installing it and a day later have a grill pan go on fire. Alarm burst in to life with its ear shattering shrill. Sorted the grill out and wafted a towel in front of the alarm. It wouldn't shut up. Threatened it with a hammer but it just ignored me and by now my dog had joined in with her own interpretation of how an alarm should sound. Pressed the hush button. No such luck. A computerised voice started screaming at me that there was a fire and carbon monoxide in the air. Ok the hush button is also the test button. Solved by taking the alarm from its mount, wrapping it in a duvet and sitting on it. After ten minutes it reset itself and blissfull silence resumed.Apart from the dog!

This is an excellent product. Had a similar older model which came to the end of its useful life so replaced it with this one. Front loading 9V battery is a nice feature. Also good that I could use the previous mounting ring without having to screw a new one in my ceiling. A must have detector for any safety conscious family with oil or gas central heating. Easy to install plus when required, easy battery replacement without having to remove from the ceiling. I have one in the sitting room and one at the top of the landing. Don’t listen to the bad reviews. This is an essential piece of kit for every home. This company (Kidde) have been making smoke alarms and fire extinguishers for many years.Highly recommended!

This saves having two separate smoke and carbon monoxide alarms - and has a voice warning to tell you why the alarm has activated to save confusion. You always wonder whether these alarms are money well spent as you don't know if they work until the emergency occurs, but in this case you have the certainty that Which tested it and were impressed. So one alarm instead of two, cheaper than most, and certainly cheaper than buying two separate alarms with the assurance that you're getting a good buy from the Which review. It is worrying, given the type of product, that Which actually found some other alarms that were so poor they rated them 'Don't Buys'

Very impressed with this, its a good large chunky bit of kit. Having purchased 3 others makes of fire alarm in the last two years, only to discover that there was no "stop or pause" button, this is a welcome purchase. This has a good large button for testing and also for stopping the noise when its gone off because of cooking smoke in the kitchen. Easy to fit, price shows its better to get a slightly ore expensive one (having bought three other products in the last two years I could have bought this one twice over) as the quality shows. It also has the carbon monoxide sensor in it too, so doubly confident at this time.

I bought this to replace existing product of the same brand that had reached the end of its effective life (and told me so by beeping every thirty seconds, not in itself a bad thing to happen). I liked that the previous one had lasted a decade (hands up everyone who vacuums their alarm every month) and I wanted a combined CO2 and fire warning. This one even fitted into the same wall mounting. It also features a child lock. Shame they had to change the battery type. I liked it that the old one took AAs new one takes MN1604 like everything else but it was included so mustn't grumble. Recommend.

Nothing wrong with the supplier or delivery etc. spot on received within 2 days or so. The product is slightly larger than the average smoke detector I guess because it is dual function. Again no issues. The only picky thing I can see is the wall mounting rather than ceiling mounted instructions (the installation option I went for) was vague on horizontal level markings etched on the back of the product as part of the installation. However worked around this using old fashion pencil and spirit level. Looks great sturdy and as would be expected with Kiddie.

This updated version is easy to test and the battery compartment is easily accessed. Audible and visual warnings for Carbon Monoxide (clear, odourless poison resulting from incomplete combustion of gas in the boiler) - the silent killer, and for smoke detection. Easy to fit, - template supplied just rotates into place on ceiling via two screws ( have to pre-drill and plug the holes) . Alarm unit itself rotates into place on the template with a 'click' - ready to go for testing - press central button for 3 secs and wait. Nice , compact unit.

Good product. Battery replacement is much easier and more sensible. However, it is a shame they keep on changing the base plate of the product that now has different ceiling screw hole fixing positions compared with their their original products. This means you cant simply swap the new product for the old one (because these products do not last a lifetime) and instead have to plaster fill the old ceiling holes and paint over them. Such a stupid mistake and one that might convince customers to try a different brand.

Purchased to install in utility room next to boiler. Looks good, appears well made and is from an established company KIDDE rather than some unknown cheap Chinese copy. When it comes to safety I don't risk buying cheap crap. This manufacturer is well known and experienced in this type of product so my advice is buy from a trusted brand, it's worth it and in fact isn't necessarily more expensive either. I have installed these for a number of my property maintenance customers. You get what you pay for. Recommended.
