- Very easy installation, just fix the base to the ceiling/wall, either with the provided screws or, in my case, I used large command strips (as I live in rented accommodation that only happened to have one heat detector - *just* meeting legal standards).- Upon pressing the test button it chirps very loudly, I could not suppress its sound even when covering it tightly with my hand. I guess that's a good thing given it's purpose, but just don't do what I did and test them in the evening - startled a few neighbours!- The detectors haven't been triggered by minor kitchen accidents - burnt toast, smoke from frying etc. It seems that the detectors advertised "thermally enhanced technology" is true, unless of course they're not working at all, but who knows!- Besides functionality, they're styled nicely, in keeping with virtually any home décor, which is nice, as previous detectors seemed to be an off-white blob on a ceiling.I will update this review if I experience any issues with battery life as others seem to unfortunately suffer from.

I went for Fire Angel because there's one fitted in our touring caravan so I knew the name and they look and feel good and strong. The new one is to replace one at home in a loung between the wood burner and the kitchen so I need it to be reliable. Well, it's LOUD! It's easy to install, it looks modern and I know it works. On the front of the package it clearly says it won't go off if you burn the toast! It doesn't. My wife cremates her toast daily (she likes it that way) and today, as usual there was smoke, lots of it. The alarm didn't go off unlike our previous one which went into a complete state of panic even when we lit the gas grill.Fire Angel = less than £10 = Guaranteed for 10 years =Battery life also 10 years.Great Value when you consider that's 3650 days of full protection for your family's lives. That's under 3 pence a day. Stop reading. Just buy some!

I had one for 10 years, checked the back and it told me it was due to expire. It had worked flawlessly since then. Only went off when there was an actual problem that could be a fire, not just hear from ovens, etc. Worked great, 10 years on I'm still alive, so is it. So I got a new one now in case it dies after its expiry. Honestly, I only feel safe if there is one of these in a place and get anxious staying at anyone's house without one.'I thought it'd never happen to me' People say, well I know different and I don't want to die by fire. It's worth remembering too, that when a fire is bad, the smoke can actually knock you out and make you not be able to wake up. So if you don't have an alarm, don't just presume you will wake up from smoke or fire noise. It'll keep you awake and give you a chance to get away.

Put it up and tested and it works, the noise is very very loud so there's no chance of missing it if it were to go off.The installation process looked a little confusing to screw it on - the base plate is separate so it can be put up first, but the instructions noted to break out two tabs from the base plate to put the screws through. Well, I couldn't see those, the picture didn't look the same as the base plate I had in my hand and there was no plastic that could break out from the rest!! So we just used sticky back things to stick it up and it did the trick.I've seen some reviews saying that the battery didnt last for 10 years as stated. I've only just got it so I can't comment on that, but I will come back and alter my review in future if I have any problems!

I've been purchasing a number of these as my current units from FireAngel fail, it makes life easy as it means I do not need to change the base plates that are screwed to the ceiling. The old ST-620 units also had a claimed 10 year battery life, with a 10 year warranty, but they have only lasted about 6 years and the warranty process was complicated due to past battery issues. These new have the same claim of a 10 year battery, but as the warranty is now just 5 years, so even FireAngel does not believe the battery will last that long. One good thing was that my first unit was DOA, but Amazon's returns process got me a new unit the next day.All in all they are cheap, seem to work and Amazon makes the purchase process easy.

A few years back we had two FireAngels fitted by the local fire brigade. One soon started to give odd battery-low noises, usually at about 3 am, which wasn't helpful! This could be temporarily cured by giving it a good hoovering, but clearly it wasn't an annoying spider. FireAngel ended up having to replace thousands of 620 models, all due to a bad batch of batteries they'd used. That has been rectified and their 622 model fits exactly where the 620 sat on its backing plate (no drilling fresh holes). Previous home alarms had set themselves off if I walked below them muttering "toast". The FireAngel Thermoptek doesn't, so can be used in a sensible place, such as the hallway adjoining most kitchens.

We bought this to replace an old FireAngel smoke alarm that had stopped working. I was really pleased to see that this alarm fits on the base of our old one, so no need to screw the new base plate on. Just be warned that it goes off a few times in succession when you place it on the base plate as clicking it in place activates the internal battery. Didn't bother me too much as it was daytime, but if you're thinking of fitting it at an anti-social hour, just be warned. It also has a flashing red light (flashes every 40secs or so) to show it's working, which may affect where you place it if that would be annoying. We have an identical one upstairs that has worked perfectly too.

Well this was so easy to fit even though previous alarm was square!! I was dreading having to re-drill old ceiling of Victorian lath and paster construction but this was able to utilise the existing holes as there are a few fitting press outs imprinted in base. Only minor hastle was touching up paintwork a little but that was my doing for choosing a round alarm! The fact that this has such a long lifetime was the biggest selling point along with reliable brand.... hope it never has to work in anger but all previous ones of this make have proved they work when we've forgotten to operate hob fan when grilling ( or burning bacon!!)

Manufactures fitting instructions miss leading. The base plate which fits to the ceiling - diagram is wrong in the booklet. The tabs are not that shape. However, tabs when broken out lent them selves to being fitted to existing holes of old smoke alarm I have discovered. No drill necessary if you have old smoke alarm to replace. If you take a look the tabs on base plate one is short and the other longer so easy to fit using existing screws to existing holes of old alarm (You have removed). My old screws were also better quality and longer. Hope this helps other people especially those of us who are fearful of drills !

Bought Two on 25 Mar 2018. Both are now going off within hours of each other and one won't stop even after pressing reset. Just goes off again and again. How do I return them under the 5 year guarantee. PS the one that keeps going off is about to get smashed with a hammer.UPDATE - I take it back. After looking on the manufactures website in the help section it recomended cleaning them. I did this and now they are back working fine again. It recomneds doing this on a regular basis. I never have. Thus, this was actually all down to me. I have updated my review score to reflect it wasnt an issue with the product.

A good smoke detector, although not had the building burn down, so cant really comment on its protectiveness. I use it in a garage conversion, and it was easy to install with a base plate you screw to the ceiling. The detector then just twists on to the base plate. It was quite fidly to get the smoke detector in a straight line (my OCD). There is some movement in the base plate once screwed to allow manouver, but I could not seem to ever get the detector to be aligned in a straight line parallel to walls. A little irritating as looks a bit odd when slightly roatated, but does the job fine otherwise.

I had 3 older Fireangel alarms in my house which had gone past their 10 year lifecycle. I decided to replace with these ones in the hope that the bracket would be the same and that I wouldn't need to bother drilling new ones into the ceiling. Very happy that this was indeed the case, so I could simply clip these into the old mounts and was good to go.Definitely a big fan of ones that last such a long time (10 years) as opposed to some cheaper ones which can end up with much shorter battery lives (so end up being more expensive and more wasteful over their full lifecycle).

My old alarm would go off at the slightest thing - toast, opening the oven door! Based on this brand being recommended by the Fire Brigade I have replaced this one which actually looks much tidier than the other one and I am going to do the same with another one in the house. I have also purchased another for my Mum and when testing, it is VERY LOUD. They have a 10-year warranty on the battery so it is good for her as she is totally unable to reach and change a battery. Only time will tell with the battery and hopefully never with the actual function of the alarm itself.

I bought 4 of these. 2 to replace 12 year old FireAngle alarms, one extra one for the house and the last for our caravan. The two that replaced the older ones fitted straight on to the 12 year old base plates so I didn’t even need to do any drilling or screwing. The extra one for the house was so easy to install. I suspect my kids could do it.The last one for the caravan has gone up wall mounted and is mush more slender than the original one.Well made product. Easy to install. Sleek and slender looking. And no false alarms. Definitely would buy again.

I had a smoke alarm top of the stairs I thought that was good enough. I had a fire on the stove with the extractor on and we were sat out in the conservatory, we herd a noise and I went to look, a lot of smoke and flames, the extractor fan kept the smoke in the kitchen so no alarm from the one on top of the stairs. All sorted now purchased three new alarms one fitted in the kitchen, need to get two more for total coverage. WE WERE LUCKY. I like these alarms not to large and a 10 year battery. it wont happen again with these alarms they are quite loud.
