I am well outside the age range stated on the box (being over sixty) but that perhaps gives an idea of the age range this kind of model appeals to. I can honestly say that putting together this car has given me at least twelve to fifteen hours of fun assembling the one thousand and five parts.I didn't rush the assembly, taking it in stages over three days. I liked the way that the build was arranged so that putting together a complex section (like the engine or suspension unit) alternated with a more basic piece of construction (like a section of bodywork). You need a sharp eye to differentiate between some of the smaller parts which are quite similar to each other and I recommend emptying the packets out into trays to make finding the part you need easier.I must have spent half my construction time looking for and checking that I had the correct part. When completed, you end up with a great looking model, and the icing on the cake is that you can go to the Lego site, put in the model number and download a full colour PDF file of the instructions to use the same set of parts to build a buggy. The second model uses quite different construction, so in an educational sense it is useful to see an alternative way of making a vehicle.Stated as being advanced Lego Technic, this model is highly detailed, and big, too, at 42 cm/16 inches long. The parts fit together extremely well, and the custom coloured and shaped parts make the car look massively stylish when built. You can also add the stickers provided in the box if you wish.I wouldn't have spent nearly £90 on this for myself, but it is a fantastic kit to receive as a present.

This is the second Lego Technic set that I've assembled, and again I was completely blown away by the level of detail, complexity, hard work required to put it together and sense of satisfaction at reaching the end!My children haven't yet reached an age where Technic would be a appropriate, but my 9-year-old son is definitely approaching a time where he's beginning to find traditional Lego less interesting than before. Ninjago etc is great, but he's reaching a point where the smaller sets are so easy as to not be fun, and the only real way to challenge him is with increasingly expensive, large-scale models. Given this, I could see a point in the future where the challenge of the Technic sets would suck him right back in!This rally car, when assembled is huge, so take the size into account if you're expecting to build and keep the model to show off afterwards. It's a shame that the pieces aren't better organised within the box to make assembly easier (Lego's younger sets have proven recently how easy it is to lead children step by step to make things more intuitive), so it *will* take a long time to work through the instructions. Probably with multiple false starts and mistakes, if you're anything like me. But the detail is unreal. I can drive but don't know much about cars, and I could imagine there'd have been a lot of questions about the steering and suspension if I'd assembled this with my children. This was a great experience, from start to finish. And suitable for anybody aged 10 up!

I've just built Lego's superb Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS kit - an amazingly complex construction, but one which is aimed at adult builders both in terms of complexity and price. This kit is in some ways the slightly cut-down version of the same thing, at a third the price and with a third the number of pieces, but with a lot of similarity in terms of design - it's more appropriate for a younger audience as a result. You still get a working 4-cylinder engine with moving pistons, working steering (albeit controlled by a knob on the roof of the car rather than the actual steering wheel), rear differential, double-wishbone suspension, and opening doors, bonnet and rear clamshell. It's brightly-coloured and will appeal to young people; the completed model is also rugged enough to be played with in its own right after building. There are approximately 1000 components in this kit; unlike many recent large Lego sets, these are not helpfully sorted into numbered bags to make finding the bits you need at each stage of the build easier, which is a shame - there's a lot of rummaging around for the right part as a result, but then that's all part of the fun. The completed car is around 40 cm long; you can also download instructions to build a dune buggy from the same pieces. All Lego is great; Technic particularly so. This is one of the better Technic kits available at the moment - recommended for any keen Lego fan.

With an age range of 10-16 and price < £100 you get an idea where this is pitched at -it’s not a flagship model like the Porsche but more a general build and play set. I’d say this would be very advanced for a 10year old and about right to challenge a 16 year old.The suspension on all four wheels with floating wishbones on the front is superb. The steering link is clever but a little fragile. The engine is a very basic setup -the diff is good but compared to models where you actually get gears which change the rotation, it’s as simple as it gets in terms of having moving pistons.Quite a lot of stickers (which I hate) and I found the body work sections not overly engaging - repetitive but fairly quick. The final model is very robust and very playable. You can push this around without worrying about bits falling off. Also no stress on any of the parts so should last a long time.I enjoyed it - I think the more expensive cars are more rewarding builds for older audiences because of the extra detail and that’s why I give four stars. For a first complex build or something to play with at the end - it’s superb - so would say the target audience range is spot on for this one.

So this is such an awesome gift for anyone who loves building things, and with the patience to see it out to completion. Ignore the age range because at 58 I got a real kick out of this Technic set.I took it really slowly, maybe an hour a night for a couple of weeks, sometimes missing out and sometimes spending longer. PArtly, I couldn't spend more time anyway, but partly because I was unfamiliar with these kinds of kits. Of course, I had lego as a kid, but this is a whole different level of detail. It's quite a lovely, meditative process if you take your time, rather than just rushing to see the thing completed. It is so intricate and because all the bits are mixed, you spend forever trying to find the right piece. That's OK, but to make my life easier I had everything laid out on a large piece of card salvaged and cut from an old Amazon box!I'm about to deconstruct it and start the buggy, but I've been putting it off tho as I love just looking at the Rally Car on the sideboard! It's really impressive at around 15-16" long. It's not a cheap project to buy but I think the pleasure and satisfaction from doing it makes it worthwhile. Way better than just watching TV!

Really excited to receive a review copy of this rally car. It is the second most expensive from the early 2018 Technic model release and is delightfully chunky and solid. At 1,005 pieces you are looking at a couple of days of on-off building. It starts with the engine and rear axle (there is 4-wheel suspension on this model), then moves forward to the seats and roll-cage, and finally the front axle and steering. That completes the mechanics and then there are loads a panels to clip on, and a few stickers to apply. You'll need tweezers and a steady hand to apply the stickers to the wheel rims.It is a very satisfying build, but I say that about all Technic models - l love the mechanics slowly building into a comprehensive whole. In terms of functionality you have a gear on the roof to steer (there is always a steering wheel inside but it is purely decorative), opening doors, boot and bonnet. I don't think they missed anything functional, given the size of the model, which is 43cm long.It is a thing of beauty and a shame to break it down to build the alternative model, so I won't be doing that for a few months.Verdict: a big, bold and beautiful rally car.

This is a fantastic rally car. It is the little brother to the large rally car that Lego sells for adults which I bought for my son for Christmas after seeing my son-in-law's. This one is aimed at a younger market with age point being 10- 16 but I think this is a good buy for adults too as it is complex to build. There are over 1000 pieces in the box and unlike Lego friends they are not bagged so you have to search for the correct pieces to build the car. This adds to the time and also the satisfaction on completion. A bit like a 1000 piece jigsaw you will not do this in a day. It is very much a work in progress and it is fantastic to see it all coming together. The cockpit is my favourite, but it looks superb finished. If you go on line put in the code number you can download a fresh set of instructions and take the buggy apart and make a dune buggy! This is fantastic value for money and is going to sit proudly alongside my Son's larger version. Recommended buy from me.

A fun kit to build over the course of several evenings. The finished model is larger than expected. There is a choice of two models to build, the rally car or a beach buggy. I built the rally car and it looks real smart. It has working suspension, and the doors, wing mirrors, bonnet and boot all lift up. You can see a moving engine pistons in the boot when you move the car around. It has fully functional steering controlled from a gear on the roof of the car. Like with most lego technic kits under the hood the bulk of the structure is made from a series of pegs and rounded beams. The panel fascias finishes the aesthetics of the car nicely with stickers that you apply yourself.Although the finished build is big, it's quite lightweight. It is a more involved build with lots of pieces, but that's all part of the fun. I would like to also point out that I'm massively over the age limit on the box.

Bought this for my lego mad 9 year old and he was so excited to build it. It took him about 3 evenings to build (every morning he was excited to get back from school to carry on!). It's a really large car when built and has loads of cool features such as the bonnet and boot opening, the pistons moving in the engine, and the ability to steer with the cog on the roof. The rear boot also has some nice movement on the side panels too to reveal more of the engine. I bought this set for £50 in the sale and at this price, it's a real steal. At £70, it's still good value as it's the kind of set that you can build and then get hours of play. Oh... and I forgot to mention that it's a 2-in-1 so you also get a beach buggy too!!!(going to have to break it all apart first though which will probably take another 3 evenings!!)

A Lego kit aimed at 10 - 16yr olds? Pah! Thought I, as I dived into the box expecting to finish this within an hour.Ah the arrogance of age! This is an absolutely superb kit and took me a couple of days of very enjoyable assembly, while older children (or those more adept) at Lego would enjoy this, I would worry about younger kids and patience as once or twice even I was getting frustrated and tired but this kit isn’t an evening job, it’s a 1000 piece jigsaw and should be respected as such. The end result is beautiful although personally I prefer the dune buggy version which is a separate assembly job but the rally car design is just amazingly intricate for a Lego project and the attention todetail on some aspects is just humbling.Definitely a labour of love and definitely worth it from start to finish.

Got this for my boy’s 11th birthday.I worked with him in every stage of the booklet to make sure he got each stage correct before moving to next one. Probably too difficult on his own. To me, an adult who played a lit of Lego as a kid, I found it medium difficulty as only one to a few items added per stage. As a comparison, i then bought on eBay a vintage Lego Techinics car (steering, suspension, 4 cylinder engine) and found this WAY more difficult - lots going on, per stage. I had this car when I was a kid. Still had most of the bits but no instructions. With bought instructions, I should have enough if my own vintage Lego my Dad kept for in case I had kids,to make the other vintage Lego car.The modern one though is v robust and this particular model was VERY well priced for what you get.

Awesome Rally Car. Also, well priced for a Technic model. It is very impressive when built and for a budding Lego builder the ideal build and easily modified with the right tools. My son built this in half a day and he thoroughly enjoyed it. It has great details. Obviously, it is for ten years and above, but a nine year could build it with some assistance. My son really likes the details and the decal. Over the last week he was able to modify it for RC capability with some extra parts. Really impressive build. If your child loves Technic Cars then this is a must.Overall, an relatively easy build and looks awesome once complete.

This took my Daughter several evenings to complete. I would say maybe 6 hours in total. This was her first Technics Lego and in large part she completed it herself. I did have to save a day on a few occasions. She was rather chuffed with herself when she was done and rightly so.The overall build can be a little tricky as the instructions can get a little muddled, even now once it’s complete the front wheel do not move as smooth as the back, I just can’t see what is wrong with the build. The car itself does look good once completed and is proudly displayed on a shelf in her room.Overall 4 Stars seem about right.

I bought this for my 12 year old son and he absolutely loves it. I wasn't sure if it would be a bit complicated for him, but as usual Lego provide brilliant step by step instructions. He built it entirely himself to my great surprise, as he has been happy to let his big sister help out in the past. It is an incredible bit of kit and looks great in his bedroom. Made the perfect gift for a lad that loves both Lego and rally cars.

42077 Rally Car is one of the best introductory set I’ve ever seen for anyone who is interested in Technic. Not only does it teach the basic structure of the car’s chassis, it also serves as a brilliant base for custom creations of your own, like cars, off-road vehicles or even crawlers with independent suspension. Moreover, you can easily motorise the car with nearly no additional parts. Excellent
