Relaxed build over 2-3 hours with some background movie watching, then dismantled it and rebuilt it with my niece of 4 and grandfather the next day and we all had a blast! (Thrilled to bits to see my niece thoroughly enjoy her first taste of Lego!) The set design is wonderful, a number of sections I found to be particularly clever in their design and it's a delight to build. The stickers and off-axis parts like the engines and wingtips give it a ton of flair, really adding to the already existing details and the shuttle alone would make for a great display model. The inclusion of the rover and tiny drone are a pleasant bonus.Lego at this time is very much a luxury for the big kid that is me,it's something I can afford but rarely, so I'm picky with which sets I generally go for and I must say absolutely that this set is fantastic value for money. You will end up with, as mentioned, a great, and surprisingly sizeable display piece with oodles of character. Should you wish to break it back down again, there are plenty of unique and useful bricks that can augment other space sets or create something new entirely, I am still exploring the rebuildability of this set and I'm excited by the possibilities!I had to dock (pun intended) one star from the final score, as I do feel there are a few minor and/or subjective cons to this set. My first is the landing gears, I feel they're far too small (I think I am not the first to mention this) and somewhat fragile-feeling. The cockpit canopy could in my opinion be designed to affix more securely, or with some kind of hinge system (It's affixed via the white 2x2-pin wedge on the nose) as it's a touch wobbly-feeling overall. And lastly the grip of the rover's claw doesn't really interact too well with the things it's supposed to, for me at least, and it's difficult to get a good grip on the samples for example for display or play purposes and that for me does bring down its play experience *ever* so slightly. I say this after having to go hunting for a sample brick that pinged-off and under furniture! :POverall a solid 9/10 set. Great design, satisfying build, tons of play value and great value for money makes this a worthwhile set to grab for those looking to start their City/Space collection!

I love space and I like Lego so got this set for my kids.As with most of the recent sets I bought (Lego city) constructions is fairly simple, with numbered bags and decent instructions. My 7 and 5 year old were able to put the shuttle and rover together with a little help. The set, once built, is nice with a shuttle, a mars rover, a little sample container and drone as well as 2 figures. There's enough to give the kids something to build a story with, but not so much that it limits their imagination. The shuttle has doors on top which open up and have space to put some of the equipment in. The cockpit also opens up to allow the figures to sit. One of the figures looks like a ship-bound astronaut with a clear visor, the other looks like one set-put for walking on the surface of Mars with a gold opaque visor. My problem with specific Lego sets such as this is that unless kids are really careful, bits break off of the models. Mostly this is OK, but in the past we have lost parts which mean we can't rebuild the models properly. The fins and engine parts at the back of the shuttle in this set are susceptible to breakage and are the sort of thing that has a generic piece that helps hold it together. If lost or in a pile of other Lego bricks, these parts become impossible to find and then the model is left incomplete. This is a problem with all Lego sets, not just this one.Overall a great addition to the Lego sets

Space sets are always popular with our kids, this was a particular hit because of all the extra little elements that they got to build and include in their games. The Shuttle is really solidly designed, it feels sturdy to play with which is a positive when it is being flown around by a 6 year old. The cockpit clips off easily to position your mini figure and the central part opens up with a couple of doors so that you can keep the drone inside. Our children were particularly impressed with the red decoder piece that you can hold over a printed piece and read a message. The geode pieces were also very popular as we didn’t have any of those in our collection. In addition to the shuttle you alsoget a cool little rover and a satellite so you already have lots of little pieces for a space adventure. The rover is really impressive and for the price you cant go wrong as there is quite a bit to build. The astronaut minifigures have had a it of a NASA inspired makeover and the orange one of the two has a really cool visor. Overall I think its a great set; brilliant for role play and the ideal little space collection to build on. Our kids gave it 5 stars!

Guessing here, but I think the "story" behind this set is that astronauts in orbit around Mars in a space shuttle are controlling a Mars drone and robotic exploration rover on the surface, then a rocket box (?) lofts a rock sample up to the ship for study. You get a little of everything, here: a shuttle, two astronauts, a six-wheeled rover, flying drone, rocks, and return box. If you're looking for a Lego "sampler" of the new City Mars Exploration set, this is probably it. Two gripes: the landing gear is too small for a shuttle this size, and the shuttle "cargo bay" will only fit the astronaut and a box, not a satellite or anything larger. The shuttle would not be able to land on Mars unless astronauts on the surface build a runway!Still, I think there's good play value and parts value here and if you can't swing the price of the whole series, this is the one to get for your budding astronaut.

This shuttle rocket inspired by NASA is brilliant and a Lego set that I'd wholeheartedly recommend. This is the perfect antidote to all the branded Chima and Ninjago sets, based instead on an aspirational career that although far-fetched, children will know is a possibility. Space travel is fascinating to all children regardless of gender, and this set takes some work to build but isn't too challenging and won't be out of reach for most children to put together by themselves. These new space sets are great, reminiscent of (but much better than!) the kinds of traditional Lego I played with growing up. My 8-year-old daughter loved building this and I'm sure most children will feel similarly.

The quality of this matches every Lego set - it is a realistic, detailed model of the space shuttle, complete with landing rover based on NASA's real vehicles. It is quite a small set - it took us about 45 minutes to put together and, in common with many recent Lego sets, has quite a few specialist pieces which mean its value in your general box of Lego is a little lower by comparison with older, simpler sets.As you would expect, the instructions and set up of the kit is excellent - as usual the set comes in numbered bags, which match the instructions. This is great because it means you can build the kit in parts if you want to, without risking pieces being lost.

This is an excellent lego kit. Given a renewed interest in space by many countries and organisations throughout the world it is also timely and children (and big kids) can build and play with this Mars research shuttle. As with all lego kits, the blocks are well made and also look good. The instructions are easy to follow and before long, it took us less than an hour, you have built quite a playset, with the main research shuttle, the mars rover and some drones. More than enough to keep occupied for hours and of course this can be added to or changed with bricks from other sets. Although there is enough in this box without the need for extras.Highly recommended.

I bought this for my 5-year-old son, who is totally mad for all things space at the moment. We put it together in three small sessions across a couple of days, and he was able to do almost all of the building himself with very little help. He was very proud of being able to assemble it!The end result is a great little set and really good value for money. The inclusion of a rover, geodes, two drones an two astronauts alongside the main shuttle means there is a lot of potential for imaginiative play. The builds are also fairly sturdy, although we have had issues with the boosters falling off the shuttle during play and the bay hatch catching on closing.

Well, I'm way more than five years old - and I loved it. Okay, yes, it did get handed over to the younger member of the family eventually, but only once I'd quality-controlled (u-hum) this Lego Mars set. The instructions with Lego are always ace, so this was no trouble to build: took about 40 minutes or so, which means, for a little one, this is a good hour's worth of building. Especially liked (as ever with Lego) all the smaller alternative crafts that can be built; encourages young minds to see this as not just a single build, but a kit that has endless possibilities. Which I always saw Lego as being, from my young age.As ever, excellent!

If you're into all this space then this is a great little set. It doesn't contain too many pieces and didn't take too long to make, about half an hour or so.Quite a realistic looking set, when we eventually do go to Mars you could imagine that this is what we might use. You get the main space shuttle with opening doors, a rover, a couple of drones and a couple of astronauts. All have realistic looking features and all the details have been thought through, like the solar panels on the rover. At £25 for the set it's about what I would expect to pay and is certainly worth the money for what you get.

Another of Lego bang on trend models based on Nasa Mars research. The box comes with a research shuttle with removable cockpit and removable solar panel generator. 2 figures, consisting of an astronaut and a technician. There are 273 pieces in this Lego model and it is aimed for 5 years plus, but I do know there are many dads (my son in law included) who really enjoy helping their children to build lego.A decent price and an attractive set.Would not break the bank if it was purchased as a present.

Lego and Space I think are a match made for Bricks the not quite all explored Mysterious Space and the Fun Lego Building of the many seemly Infinite combinations to create are two that go so well together, I really like how this set has a shuttle with space for a pilot and a other astronaut with a droid filled gemstones and the wheels that never fail a mission too take off. This set to me is great fun with the feeling that right around the dark side of the planet there is hidden alien life.

9 year old daughters home learning topic is Astronauts so treated her to this set.She was able to build the whole thing herself without any help. We were very excited to find one of the astronaut minifigures is actually a girl too! Bonus points to Lego!Daughter loves this rocket and all little details in there like the control panels that make it that bit more special. As if the rocket isn't impressive enough the set also comes with a little rover, satellite, drone and rock samples.

This set includes a space shuttle a mars rover, two men and a spinning rotor. The mars rover has a grappling hook. The space shuttle a miniature cockpit and a research station. The Lego is of good quality and it takes less than an hour to build. I like that the Lego its inn bags that are numbered to correspond with the instructions which are clear and concise. The age says it's from 5 years up. It's a very nice you that will appeal to children of various ages.

Bought for my 9 yr old, instructions were easy to follow and he loves it. He enjoys playing with the set and there are plenty of extras to incorporate into his games such as the gem stone rocks to collect with the rover. Also thought it was great they had a female astronaut Lego person as most of the Lego city sets are aimed at boys and don't generally include many female characters.Good value for money and as always with Lego it is high quality.
