This is a great game and a good starting point for the Switch. Originally on the Wii U which will have hampered sales by the small install base so Warner Brothers have ported this to the Switch for another go. I'm not sure if this will be a massive seller due to it coming so early on in the Switch's life. As a game that is regularly popping up less than £40 then I would absolutely recommend this as a good value, content rich game.GraphicsThe game is a Lego game and as such has a certain graphics style, it won't win any awards for graphics but they are also nothing to complain about. On the TV they are bold and colourful and has a reasonably simple interface so younger children should be ok with this with an adult to assist. On handheld mode the graphics are, obviously, lower resolution and it is fairly obvious however this doesn't take anything away from the fact that this still looks great.SoundsThe game so far is fully voiced with a range of characters. This does add to the game as a whole. The other ambient sounds are fine for a Lego game, again nothing to boast but more than acceptable.GameplayThis is where this game shines. As a mid 30's male I'm finding this a very satisfying experience. The fact I can also play with my daughter is amazing. I would liken this to a GTA style game but without the adult content, instead this is replaced with slapstick humour and a good amount of references to other intellectual properties; I won't go into these so not to ruin the game. You make your way around a large open world with police missions to complete and a ton of side missions and collectables. There is good replay value to missions as well due to not having unlocked the correct ability for certain areas the first time around.OverallI would definately recommend this game if you are a fan of the Lego games already and also for older players with children that want a more involved game they can also play with their kids. It would be nice if they do bring more games out in this style to the Switch and one way you can assure of this is by supporting them by buying the game, I don't think it will be long before this game drops price again and hopefully will end up less than £30 so it can get in the hands of more Switch users. I think this game is a justifiable 4 star game for this generation considering it was orignally a Wii U game, if there had been a lot of new content added over the original then this could have been 5 but from what I've read this is more or less the same game with better resolution and multiplayer. If this is incorrect please let me know and I may reconsider my final verdict; saying that 4 stars still represents a very good game!

I bought this for my 6 year old son to play. He can't yet read, so I was a bit concerned he would need help to play it. So far it has been pretty good. Occasionally there is a screen prompt he can't read, but they usually follow it up with a verbal hint that he can follow. This game was actually "re-released" in 2017 for PS4, XBox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. That is where I first learned about it. It took me a while to realize this was the same game and not a sequel. The new game is about $70, and I thought that it would perhaps be a better game since it was newer. In retrospect, paying $50 less for this game is the right call. It is still in 1080p, and runs seamlessly on the Wii U.The best part is the game was actually designed for the Wii U controller. There are neat aspects of the game that require the controller. If you didn't have a Wii U, it wouldn't be as cool. Although I haven't played the 2017 version, I would safely say this is the best version.... particularly for kids. The game can best be described as Grand Theft Auto for kids. It is a riot to play, and is relevant and appropriate for young kids. We are having a blast playing it. I'd say it is the best Lego game by TT to date (and we've played a lot of them). For $20, you are stupid NOT to buy this. (it dropped in price $10 theday before I bought it. Thanks Amazon!)Edit:It's been a few weeks (over Christmas) since I wrote this review. My son isn't playing it much anymore. It has a lot to do with me not handing over the controller. I have become completely obsessed with this game. It is awesome and compelling. Best game I've played in 5 years. It is like Grand Theft Auto without the continual harassment of the police whenever you "steal". Since you are the cop, you take what you want and joyride to your heart's content. There are fun little side assignments in the game that keep you completely fulfilled. Things like shooting pigs out of a cannon, or blowing up statues of your nemesis, or taking coffee breaks, or racing jet skis, or building roller coasters. I can't believe this game doesn't get more press. It is the best thing on the Wii U. We are probably 50 hours in and according to the save game screen we are only 24% of the way in. I simply can't get enough. Move over boy, daddy is playing.

I ADORE this game! I had Wild World on the DS/DSI and was really upset when my DSI began to play up. I got a 2DS XL as soon as I possibly could after the DSI stopped workly successfully and this was the first 3DS game I knew I wanted and that I bought. I have had the game for about a year now and play it every day. I adore the ability to change your hair style and colour that I couldn't get in Wild World, the ability to customize the fashion further with tights, socks and shoes, the beautiful graphics, awesome weather phenomenons such as meotor showers, wishing stars and fireworks that you can design the shape of! You are mayor and the way in which you become mayor is constantly hilarious to me.I love how you can choose your town layout in the very beginning, customize your town (being mayor) and that the animals come to you more now, being their mayor. You can get coffee at The Roost and get takeaway coffee, which I think is adorable. What I think is my favourite thing about the game that makes it different from Wild World are the little challenges. Working for Jack for halloween, working for the reindeer for Christmas, the secrets, collecting the prizes from the fortune cookies, learning the orders of everyone in the town at The Roost and working there with the knowledge you gain, visiting the island and playing the mini-games, exploring the many different dreams avaliable in the Dream suite and collecting all the expressions from Dr. Shrink in Club LOL. Couldn't recommend this game enough. So pure and makes me so happy. Right combination of cute, light and weird. Anti-depressant game right here! 100% an Animal Crossing nerd

Really enjoyed this game.I never played the wii u version ...Took me a while to get around to getting this for the Switch.I love Lego games, mostly the DS and 3DS titles. So far I've played DC Villans and the Marvel lego games for the Switch...I have to say I did not particularly care for either of those games, i found them to be just too puzzle heavy for my tastes.Anyway - while this game is a port of an older title, it suits my tastes very well.Yeppp it's heavly inspired by GTA 5 - but that's not a bad tbing as Rockstar make amazing games.Lego games are no slouches either. It's full of laughs and charm. The graphics are good, not amazing and the gameplay is already somewhat old school - but gameplay is king and this game delivers in spades on that front. It just chugs along at a really enjoyable pace.I did watch some reviews for this prior to buying and it was getting around 6-7/10Loading times were mentioned in most as being horrible, also it was too expensive for a port of an older game.(At release certainly this was a fair criticism.)Well the load times aren't really that bad imo.I like watching the cut scenes for this game but you can skip them if you want. The game has fallen in price a lot now, so that should not be an issue anymore either. This is a very fun game - if you like lego and if you've never played it before, this is a must play imo.I'm giving this ...9/10

We surprised our children with a Switch for Christmas and bought this game to go alongside it. We were Switch newbies so didn’t really know what games to plump for; our boys have always loved LEGO games so we went for this one and have not been disappointed. They got straight into the game and were able to pick up the controls easily, we felt a little bit left out watching them as we quickly realised it was a little bit like a child friendly version of Grand Theft Auto. Essentially you start off as Chase McCain who is a police officer and you receive calls to give you missions to complete, you are able to roam freely around the City and just like GTA you are able to ‘borrow’ cars from people and follow maps to get to your destination. The game is divided into Chapters and you take on various disguises to complete missions, as with other games you also collect studs and bricks to earn different rewards in the game. The fact that it is a free world to explore means that the game can go on for as long as you want and to achieve all of the goals/find all of the bricks will definitely take a while so it is great value for money. The characters are all really child friendly and our children recognise some of the minifigures from their sets which they were impressed with!We actually felt like we were missing out on the game so started our own game that we play after they’ve gone to bed!

Great game! Both of my son's adore the Lego games, and this one is no different.I love how the Lego games are extremely family friendly, and absolutely any age can enjoy it.My 9 year old loves it, my 5 year old loves it, and i'm not ashamed to say - I do too!!My 5 year old can pick up the controller and play on his own, needing no help - Or we can play together and both enjoy it.I particularly like that this game doesn't require you to follow the story line unless you want to unlock new characters. Some areas are locked and need a certain character's skill to unlock, but if you or your child just want to run around and take in the sights - There is plenty to see and do without doing the story line.My 5 year old and I play together frequently, where he will drive around having fun (particularly at the fair! He loves going on the rides) and I will head off and do the story line. All of the characters have amusing things to say, some of which have my partner and i chuckling. There are a lot of references, some even aimed towards the older players, and go right over my son's head. The main character, Chase is a firm favorite now and both of my son's reach for this game rather than the other Lego ones we own.If you're looking into buying this game, i'd highly recommend it. It's an absolute pleasure to see my children enjoying a game so much, and being so deeply immersed in it!

On the evidence of this I prefer this type of game to platform or sports one.it seems to be a game format that Nintendo do well and which plays well on my son's 2DS.There's humour in the game and nice touches as you puzzle out the ways to get around the various rooms and mansions.Battling the ghosts can be at times, exhilarating, stressful or a bit irritating (when struggling to defeat them). It is really clever and the atmospheric music adds greatly to the game.I am not too enamoured of the dialogue with the professor which drags and which we rush through or skip at times.I have now played about 8 games on the 2DS and this far this is mine and my son's overall favourite. It can be frustratingwhen you are stuck on a level and the ability to save at any stage would be better.I also have to admit that at the start we had to look at an online cheat page to get going. To excuse us somewhat though my son hadn't played video games much before and I hadn't for years so we needed a little hand up.Overall, a really good, enjoyable game that should keep players amused and enthralled for along time.

I bought this intending to be able to play this. But the kids (4, 6, 9 and 11) have kept me from getting anywhere near it. This has dominated our summer holidays. They play for a bit, and then head to the garden to be Chase McCain, and then they head upstairs to make all of the lego that they've just played. The humour is spot on, half goes over their head but they still love it. There are so many fantastic little touches that make this game amazing (the farmer uses the chicken as a gun and fires eggs, when the characters are still they all mess around, the nurse accidentally drops a syringe into her foot). Every puzzle is pretty well laid out and so they don't present a challenge. The challenge come from the sheer amount of content. The kids completed the story mode and at the end of however many hours it took them, they had only completed 16%. Every time you complete something you get that great buzz from finding something.Downside, it has to have the longest loading times I've seen (3 minutes or more). But the kids have learned patience. Either way as a select title, this is essential.

At the time of this review, this game is technically 7 years old, having started its legacy on the Wii U. That first version was the most impressive, featuring references to Super Mario’s Star man, piranha and Bullet Bills. These have been replaced, sadly, by more crime-and-punishment centred icons. What remains is a 99% faithful reproduction of the Wii U’s joyous Lego exclusive. What remains now and competes in a more fierce arena, is a mini and family friendly sandbox city-based adventure game. Think of it as GTA for people who appreciate laughter, rainbows and cuteness above blood , guns and aggression. Those extra missions are plentiful, the amount of items to collect is vast and the variations between different parts of the city means that the landscape seldom feels repetitive. It is inevitable that games like this may cease to exist due to the success of ‘the paywall generation’. But when they make them this good. They last the distance.100% recommended

It is a really good Lego game, but for my and the kids it does not have any really association. We have never had any lego city toys. The game plays like many of the other Lego games, but if you have played some of the newer lego games, you will find this one to be lacking some features or control as this is a four year old lego game now.My kids did have a lot of fun with it though, and I bet that if you are familiar with Lego City, this will make all the more fun.For myself, the Lego games like Jurassic World or Indiana Jones have better playability as I consider them a parody to the movies. If you like Lego games, or platform gaming similar to Skylanders, then you will enjoy this as much as I did.My and my children have played through the first part of this game. You can find a video on my YouTube channel CrawlinUK Games, or by searching 7zAt3ofuGIc or you can search 0mb_6QEHK6M for my kid's two player gamplay.

I bought his for my son but we both love it. The gameplay is so good. You can do missions, collect golden bricks, magic bricks, do superbuilds, find new vehicles and disguises, do mini tasks such as car thefts, time trials etc, the list goes on. You can fly in helicopters too! If is 2 player and the second player can drop out at any time, I’ve oftwn found myself continuing to play when my son goes to bed haha! It is easy enough for my 6 year old and has really helped him transition into playing video games.its a game where it doesn’t matter if you die as you just continue on. Perfect for younger players! The story mode is really fun to follow and the graphics are really good.Even after completing the special assignments you can play free play with an added bonus to do the extra missions etc. We completed the missions and it says we have only done 39% of the game, so lots more to do! Would definitely recommend! 10/10

My first Zelda was "A link to the past" and it will always hold a special place in my heart. So seeing how this takes place in the same world with its soundtrack and items based off that is wonderful. It is also great to see the world in modern graphics with 3S to boot. The wall merging adds a serious extra element to puzzle solving but not so much as to be too difficult. The new system of renting or buying items is very interesting and I do like it as if you have trouble with a certain dungeon or boss you can just go do some others to get your hearts up ect.The characters are funny and the game still has the charm of the original. Plus having a wallet that can hold 9999 rupees in from the start is great. Also quick equip is very handy too.All in all I wish I had gotten this sooner as I've been glued to it since it arrived lol

This is a great game - and I can see why it has been described as Grand Theft Auto for a family audience. Just the right balance of story mode to progress through, plus the open world to explore and find all the secrets. And what a huge map it is too!Perfect for kids and adults alike, with numerous little modern culture nods and humour thrown in to entertain the grown-ups. Some elements may be a touch difficult for the youngest to complete without some help (particularly the driving against the clock bits), but they are only essential to achieve the full 100% complete - the story game doesn't rely on them.Off the back of this game, I went and bought three more Lego games (Force Awakens, Lego Movie, and Marvel Super Heroes) but this is by far the most complete and polished of the lot and does seem to have the most depth to it.

The point of the game is for Luigi to solve the mystery of the suddenly aggressive ghosts all over the area. Along the way, you have tasks to complete often involving hoovering up ghosts to put into a container at the lab so when the mystery is solved, they can go back to being big floaty goofballs. At first, I wasn't a fan as it seemed super easy and repetitive. Well it is but it became quite enjoyable and the storyline moves along and gets harder as you go. There were some super challenging points that made me think and did struggle on some levels. Perfect to 'waste time/have fun' (as an adult) or for younger children to have fun playing a friendly mystery game. The last levels were definitely a bit of a battle!Health warning: the last levels can potentially lightly strain the hands... *ehem*..

When I first heard about this game I didn't get it as it was a bit too expensive but with the nintendo select I thought I'd give the game ago and boy am I glad that I did.Honestly I thought this game was just going to be another lego game, which wouldn't have been an issue but it was just a lovely surprise. Ok so the game I would say, reminds me of GTA but a much more child friendly version. You have missions to complete but you can also explore the lego city and this part of the game I especially love as you get to find hidden items which can be swapped for new modes of transport, characters etc.I have put many hours into this game and the game play is one of the best on the wii u for game content.I would highly recommend this game to anybody who has a wii u.
