I really enjoy playing Lego games and have a little bit of a collection going. Marvel Avengers is my latest in the series and with the next Marvel movie installment out this month Captain America Civil War it's got us in the mood for superheroes. Not only has this game been in our PS4 almost constantly for the last few weeks but we've been watching the films as well. I would recommend this game to anyone that's a fan of the franchise and also enjoys the Lego games. All of us have had a good go in this household although the story mode has mostly been completed by myself and a few sections by the boyfriend. My daughter has had a good go on the freeplay mode which is her favourite way to play. She's five and doesn't really have the patience for the story mode as it can sometimes be a bit tricky to figure out what you need to do. I type this whilst the game is paused and I'm looking up a walkthrough so I can move on to the next part of the level...so, it's not simple for everyone! That being said the game follows a fairly straightforward pattern and when you know which characters have certain abilities then it becomes easier to work our what you need to do. Also after hitting stuff for a little bit of time with the wrong character a little A pop's up with one of SHIELDS agents offering helpful (sometimes, a little sarcastic) advice on which character you need to use for that particular part of the mission.Throughout the regular story mode you do not control which characters you play at certain points as it follows the two Avengers movies so you can expect to play certain characters at key points in the story mode however once this mode is complete you can 'Go To Space' which is the level select screen and play over any level in 'Freeplay' mode and have free selection on which characters you'll play. This is great for those that want to go back and collect other characters.Freeplay mode allows you to use other characters abilities to collect Minikits, more Studs (money) and up to three character tokens. You can also do my favourite part which is STAN LEE IN PERIL. I absolutely love that he's an appearance in this game just like he's a cameo in every Marvel film. It's great! I've saved him a few times now and some of the lines he says are really funny. Stan Lee, for those that don't know, is the creator of many of the major characters in the original comics so it's really great that he's in the game too.In the game you can expect to play Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Captain America all with the voice acting from the original films. However, there are also some other characters which are going to be featuring in the massive war coming up in the film franchise as they're all linked together. You can also find characters from Guardians of the Galaxy and the original Fantastic Four. I've not looked up which other characters are in the game as I'm excited to find out for myself. Enemies you can unlock include Ultron & Loki from the films as well as a fair few others. Each character has a different ability which helps to progress through the levels. You'll need Hawkeye with his explosive arrows, Iron Man/Tony Stark to fix broken items, Thor to use his thunder and power up electric things and Black Widow to turn invisible and sneak past enemies and lasers. Of course the Hulk is your main choice if you want to smash! The game can last quite a long time as there are a fair few story levels which as I've said above you can play over to collect everything in Freeplay mode. You can also wonder around several areas including Manhatten, SHIELD base, Hawkeye's Home and collect other items, characters and save Stan Lee. This makes for really good longevity in my opinion. We've all really enjoyed playing this game. I would recommend it to anyone that has a basic understanding of gameplay and as my daughter is five and I didn't have a problem with her playing it and she picked up most of the things quite easily (she gets stuck on the races) then if you have a child of a similar age they would have fun with this too. What's really great is you can play this two player at any time so you can help those a little younger if they do get a bit stuck. In terms of value for money the newer a game the more expensive it is. This is currently retailing on Amazon for just over £35. You may find it cheaper elsewhere. This is about the price I paid and as I love video games I was happy to pay it. I think Lego games seem to hold their value for quite a while because they're popular and often feature big titles. Currently, if you can get this game for less than £30 you'd have a bargain. I also think for the length of play time available it makes it cost effective as we will return to this time and time again over the next few months.Overall a great game, very fun and easy to play...most of the time. If you get stuck there's always a walkthrough. You may find this review on other sites such as ciao and my blog candyflossdreams.net

I was a big fan of the previous Lego Marvel game, which my kids and I sunk a lot of hours into trying to get to 100%. We played that on Wii U, so I was looking forward to playing this on PS4 with its superior graphics and array of trophies. Thankfully, the game does not disappoint. With a greater range of characters, and limited repetition of characters from the previous game - the usual big hitters aside - once again we are treated to an expansive Lego game with plenty of replay value. You know what you’re getting from a Lego game, and there is even more familiarity as the New York and Helicarrier ‘hubs’ are the same as the previous game. But there are some welcome new features. The “team up” moves were a superb addition and a natural evolution of the Lego Marvel games, encouraging co-op teamplay as you see how the different characters interact. The season pass at £7.99 adds a good 50 characters/costumes, plus five new levels. There are two negatives, and the first is one that has hounded Lego games for a good while: bugs. Civilians walking in mid-air or (somehow) ‘falling’ through solid pavement with just their head bobbing over, this game has its fair share of bugs; I’ve also received error messages during play and had to restart the game. The other negative is perhaps also a feature that to some is a selling point of the game - the fact that it sticks so rigidly to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The cut-scenes use vocals directly from the films, something the makers also used on the Lego Jurassic World game with mixed success. Unfortunately at times the vocal isn’t clear or particularly decipherable, where it has been lifted from a loud action-packed part of the film. Although the makers are having a lot of fun riffing on and re-interpreting some of the scenes from the films, it does sometimes feel as though you’ve seen it all before, and some of the cut-scenes go on far too long. These are relatively minor bugs, and this is comfortably a four-star game: a crowd pleaser at home that my children always enjoy playing. For the price you get an expansive, fun, addictive game. If they can fix the bugs, aren’t as restricted with the content and can give more freedom with the customisable character option, this would easily be a five-star game. I have high hopes for Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 later this year and can’t wait to see what they do with it.

Bought this for my 5 year old daughter. I love how she can play it alone in free play mode because she can discover things at her own pace, or we can play it together in story mode - although she has played story mode by herself as the majority of it pretty easy for young kids, I would often get, 'Mum, I'm pressing circle but nothing's happening!', so I'd end up helping. This is one reason that I haven't given it the full 5 stars - sometimes when prompted to press circle next to an object, you would have to press it quite a few times before it would work which is quite frustrating, especially for kids. Originally, I bought it thinking she'd mainly play it alone whilst I was making dinner, but once I played a bit with her, I got addicted and we ended up doing the rest of the game together, which was so fun - mum/daughter bonding time to the max! There's not many two player games out there anymore so the Lego games are great for this. I especially liked how first player & second player have to work together alot so it's proper teamwork, and it's fun how first player would sometimes be in a separate location to second player, and they'd have to do their own task. My daughter loved how you had to be certain characters to open certain doors, reach high up objects etc, as she got to play as the full range of avengers, and she loved going back to freeplay to unlock all the other marvel characters. However, as fun as it was, I personally wouldn't play this game on my own as it's very basic and clearly geared toward children, so if you're an adult Marvel fan I'd just keep my fingers crossed for an Arkham style game series. My only other slight gripe is the camera angles at times when in spilt screen were horrendous, like the part when you have to fly around the tower trying to shoot Loki - the angle meant that you couldn't see him, let alone shoot him! But aside from this, it's great!

Compared to the absolutely seminal Lego Marvel Superheroes, this is something of a letdown - but it's still a great game, with a lot to do. Manhattan is here again in all its glory, and remains by far the best and most engaging part of the game. However, with the loss of the X-Men, and (to my great, great sadness) the Fantastic Four, the X-Mansion and the Baxter Building are both gone - the former replaced by the new Avengers HQ, as seen in Age Of Ultron. Deadpool is also gone, along with any other Fox-owned properties (such as Galactus, or the Silver Surfer). Another negative is that the original story of the first game is now replaced with scene-by-scene retreads of the various movies - all using the dialog from the films.Because of the ambient sound, this can sometimes be a bit difficult to hear; also, the stories are strangely incongruous with the world of Lego, and overall it doesn't work as well as the original story from the previous game. On the plus side, there have been some well-judged tweaks - for example the flying mechanic is much improved. In short, if you loved the previous game you're going to like and enjoy this - but if you're only going to get one, get the first game.

There is something addictive about LEGO games, me and my partner had really stayed away from them thinking they would be perhaps a little childish but they are actually fantastic a really fun take on the Marvel world and perhaps even better, they all a co-op mode and I'm not talking online multiplay, I'm talking you and your partner / friend sat on a sofa playing together - something which seems to be missing in so many games of this latest generation. This is definitely a step up from previous Marvel games, frustration levels are down, espechially when it comes to dying, no longer do you return to the last save zone, but you carry on from where you died, minus some "funds" and we personally love the new addition of the ability to tag team with the characters you have in play,I would definitely recommend exploring everywhere there are so many amazing little hidden gems to find around the game. There is so much more to explore, find and see in this game than the previous one, so no matter if you are an old hat at lego games or new to the crazy this is definitely a must try.

OK, this won’t come as a surprise but I love my lego games, they’re fun for me as an adult, great for me to play with my nephews and when you get to throw into the mix Marvel’s heroes then its pretty much a win/win any which way I look at it.What this game brings to the fore is Avenger threads, cracking characters that will give you a whole heap of fun and with the ability to replay levels with new characters alongside abilities all round make this a game that has a lot of replay value as you see to earn every achievement as well as gold brick in the game. As with the other Marvel title you also get to rescue creator Stan Lee from numerous predicaments and all round not only get a good chuckle as the lego humour takes over but have a whole heap of fun for all involved. All round, this is my favourite lego title to date and whilst I thought that the original Marvel would take a lot to beat it, this one alone for the gaming experience has been bigger, better and way more fun. Cracking.

Having spent the weekend playing the game , firstly I must say you almost forget this is a Lego game and just thought I was playing just an avengers game. The story mode is great and some of the sense were hilarious with sticking to the films... Once I completed the story mode .. I played the free roaming for five minutes not really my thing mini games it not grand theft auto to be honest why not just finish a short (still took me 15-18 hours I reckon ) but great story .. I would of been happier with that instead of stretching the game iron man doesn't run around new york for funsies . that's just my opinion I'm sure there a market for it.My one complaint is that the non super super hereos allseem to have the same abilities.......100 characters to unlock but many are the same and you can count captain america in shirt captain america in boxing gloves captain America without helmet etc as 7 . thanks for reading

I'm not far off 40 years old and not a gamer at all but my boys love games (no surprise there right?) The Lego games for the past few years have been really impressive and this Avengers Lego game is just amazing. The kids don't fully appreciate it, because they haven't seen the film, but the whole plot is in there and as they work through the game they're pretty much getting the whole story. The level of detail in the reenactment of the various scenes is amazing, and unless i'm mistaken a lot of the original voices from the film have been used.I really like the lego games because they let the kids enjoy the fighting aspect of gaming that young boys love so much, but without too much graphic violence (oh dear,I sound like my dad.. no, make that my mum). The only real violence we see as a result of this game is between my 2 boys when they both want to be a particular character.

I'm a huge fan of the Lego games and this has been our first purchase for our xBox One. It's based on most of the recent Avengers movies (up to Age of Ultron) and, if you're a fan of the movies you'll love being able to recognise the various scenes from so many of the movies, alongside their featured characters. The game seems bigger than any of the previous Lego games we've played and gameplay can be extended by purchasing a season pass of downloadable content. It plays really well on xBox One and we haven't seen any of the glitches which have been a feature of previous Lego games. As always there's a ton of side missions in addition to the main game which will allow you to unlock additional content, characters and vehicles. There's enough in the game to keep you playing for some time, especially if you have to complete it fully like I do. Highly recommended.

As a Lego game fanatic, working my way towards 100% completing all of the Lego games for PS4 I was not disappointed by this one. I've racked up 50 hours of gameplay and now 100% completed it, unlocked all the characters and vehicles and collected all minikits in all the levels alongside saving Stan Lee in levels and in free roam. The amount of time you can spend playing this games makes it well worth the money, and my 7 year old nephew loves playing it just for driving around the Manhattan hub (almost like grand theft auto but suitable for children), I've now realised there is also a season pass available for this game (an additional 7.99) which I have purchased and will be aiming towards completing the extra levels from this too.The only downside is I'm feeling a bit lost now I've nearly finished the game

My partner & our girls brought me this for my Birthday as had enjoyed playing the Lego: Harry Potter game.It is great game, has voices of all Avenger characters & change characters on each level.Play as Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Nick Fury & other characters. You have to try save Stan Lee character 'In Peril' every level & earn enough studs to achieve 'True Avenger' status.Like other Lego games, once you complete a level you can go back as other characters in Free Play mode to get other items miss getting in Story Mode.If you like other Lego games or a fan of Avengers/MCU movies then you'll love this game. Suitable for children are 7yrs upwards.

The general game play follows the standard Lego game format, but in addition to this. You can now perform tag team moves with your partnering characters and each character combo moves combine differently, which is fun. The story follows Avengers through to and including Avengers 2 and watching the movie clips performed by the Lego character counterparts is enjoyable to watch and done extremely well. However, the part I've enjoyed the most so far, is playing the smaller separate worlds such as Asgard, Malibu (Starks home) etc... They've really put effort into these smaller lands and should be explored. My son is 5 and he loves it, my wife and I are 5+ and we enjoy it even more!

Bought as a gift to play with my partner in our spare time. I previously bought her the Lego Harry Potter game series as she a HP fan. This one seems to be a bit more all over the place and a little bit manic in comparison. I suppose that ties in with the films but when playing it as a game its easy to start getting a headache. In terms of the game there are some enjoyable aspects, i.e. flying around as Iron Man but also some questionable ones i.e. Capt America using his shield to extinguish fires?!Haven't got too far in but some aspects of the films are well transferred into game play and again some game play doesn't link too much with the films.

Was initially concerned that I had a NON-Europe version (happened before !!) the code on the game is CUSA20122. This is the US release number and also the European release number. Seems like Sony has changed the numbering system. Things to look for to ensure its European - PEGI logo, Region Number on the back. This was PEGI 7 and Region 2.Why does this matter? Well the game plays OK, but you cannot use the DLC (download content from your PSN account) on an out of region game!Scenario is : US game will work, but DLC's are barred. To get DLC, the game needs to be the region that your PSN account is in.This was a UK version and I'm happy :)

If you like Lego games your in for a treat. Fantastic graphics, gameplay and puzzles to keep you going. The music is great, the voice acting can be a little muffled now and then but not a big deal it could be a bit clearer in some parts but goes well with the action. There's a season pass to buy at £7.99 and looks good value for money. No DLC at the moment as I give you my thoughts of the game but no doubt its on the way,( please be online co-op, please) all in all a great game to play that will put a big smile on your face. Give it ago it makes a change from the mainstream FPS's and realistic blood and guts games. Happy gaming!!
