I'm slowly working my way through the entire collection of Lego games, and this is probably one of the best games I've played so far. Unlike Lego Batman 2, the story is interesting, full of Lego-style jokes and offers a range of DC characters to play with from the word go. During the course of the game, some goodies turn bad and some baddies turn good, which helped to spice things up and give you new abilities to play with.Unlike the previous Batman games, characters can now change suits at any time. This made for better level design (as opposed to making you run across a level 3 times to change suits) but could be a bit confusing as you try and track down which characters have which abilities. It could also be a bit tedious, as changing characters/suits took time, and free play didn't always give you quick access to all the abilities you needed to ace a level (though you could manually change to them through the character picker). The designers had given this some consideration, and provided a method to quickly change to the necessary suit when near an object, though the game often got confused and ignore this in favour of shooting a weapon. It was also nice to see some long awaited feature finally added to the game, such as remembering which 'Extras' are turned on, in-level arrows which accurately point to locations (i.e. they only show up when close by) and flying controls which are responsive and easier to use (though countless hours of practice on the first marvel game no doubt helped). The races were also vastly improved from the first Marvel game, and gave you a fair amount of time that it was a challenge, but not frustrating or near-impossible. The lantern planets were fun to explore (though flying over a curved surface can make you feel a bit sick) and offered a range of fun missions to complete. Whilst there was some repetition, each did feel unique that I never grew bored of them (with the exception of the tour by Green Lootern). The main downside was the hub layout. Being set in space it was understandable that a single hub wouldn't really work, but the multiple similar-looking doors and teeny tiny signs often made it confusing to find your way around. The hubs also lacked a guide to take you from one mission to another, which meant it took me a while to understand why some missions weren't available (which turned out to be because I hadn't completed a previous one). Equally, each time you spoke to a character you ended up in a tedious conversation (which you couldn't skip) and no summary was given to sum up what they actually wanted you to do. I had to look up how to solve the costume missions, as I've never seen a game require you to make custom characters and it certainly wasn't clear that the outfit hovering nearby was the aim, not a reward. The level selector also wasn't great - instead of separating things into sections (e.g. hubs, planets, story mode, DLC), everything is just dumped together. And the fact the map spins in the main selector meant I spent more time than necessary trying to find the one level I missed a cannister on.Having completed the main game to 100% in a little under 24 hours of gameplay, I decided to give the DLC a shot. This was my first experience with add-on levels for a Lego game, so I bought the season pass and got the full set installed. Overall my feeling was '.... is that all?'. The DLC cost me more than the main game, and only consisted of 6 really short levels, for which I was heavily overpowered using the red bricks from the main storyline. There were no new abilities, no interesting challenges and I can't say I really got much out of any of them (except a few trophies). It definitely wasn't worth an additional £12, though thinking of it as £23 for the whole experience wasn't that bad.

I have been a huge fan of the Lego games since they first appeared on consoles, and was really excited to see this new incarnation. I am also a MASSIVE DC comics fan, which meant I was doubly excited to get this and get back into the world of collected studs, tracking down minkits, extra characters and just having a really enjoyable time playing something fun.The first thing to start on is the size of the game. There are 15 levels to play that in some cases are longer than any of the levels we have seen before. Sometimes it can feel like a bit of a trawl in story mode where you are restricted by what characters you are allowed to play with, but as soon as you get into Free Play Mode the fun really starts!Once story mode is done, Free Play opens up the levels, and newly added hub planets (of the various coloured lanterns) with more characters, vehicles and gold bricks to find. There is plenty to keep anyone occupied for a long time here!In terms of characters - this is the biggest Lego roster yet. All your favourites are here - different versions of them (Sinestro Corps Batman, anyone?), their enemies, their sidekicks and even movie versions! I won't list them all here (there are far too many! and it is brilliant when you unlock another character that the developers have managed to squeeze in.There are some really nice touches too. When Wonder Woman flies her Tv theme tune starts! As does the John Williams theme for Superman! I flew around for ages just listening to the tunes! Adam West appears in a lot of this game and he is top-notch. It is worth buying the game for him and his quips as you rescue him in lots of unusual scenarios, are just priceless. Here is a man who isn't afraid of taking the mickey out of himself. Brilliant. There is even a level where you get to play as his Batman - with the old style kerpow! graphics as he fights. And for me this is what makes this version of the Lego game the best yet. There is real love and attention to the material the developers are using. And they have a lot of fun with it too. It never takes itself too seriously, and that is what we have come to expect from the Lego games. After so many Lego games, you would think we would be getting bored of the same old things but this game is just as addictive and playable as all the others - with some nice tweaks here and there to make the experience feel like things may be the same, but the improvements are there for a reason. One of the problems with some Lego games are glitches. On this one, I have only come across one - and that wasn't game freezing like in some of the previous games. I can honestly say I only had one problem, and still managed to get through it. One minikit was showing as being in one place, and it was actually in another! Most issues seem to correct themselves as you play - large characters aren't allowed to spawn in areas that are too small. Simple but sensible! So, all in all this is my favourite Lego game so far. Why? The graphics are good, it is MASSIVE, the voice acting is excellent, the humour is tongue in cheek with a hint of winking at fans of the games, films and the comics, the universe has been lovingly recreated - and it plays like a dream; simple to get into, hard to put down! This is a great game for adults and kids alike - good fun that can be enjoyed in co-op mode. It should be high on peoples Christmas/Wish lists and is an essential part of someones collection. There are also 3 add-on packs to be downloaded at the time of release and I am off to play those next! I am looking forward to a few more packs that have been hinted at online.

Firstly, I am a big fan of the Lego video games series, and I particularly enjoy the Batman titles, as well as the Lego Marvel Super Heroes game. I am also in complete agreement with those who say that these Lego titles are some of the best video game adaptations of the comic book franchises available (DC also has the brilliant Arkham series, but Marvel is somewhat lacking).Having said this, it took me a while to get into Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. The free roaming aspect of the game is the most extensive and impressive to date, but I think it came at the expense of the story mode, which seemed rather lacking in imagination and vitality, as well as being surprisingly brief. However,I was very glad that a variety of DC superheroes and villains were made playable in the story mode, as previous titles had limited us mainly to Batman and Robin, which became repetitive (despite Batman being my favourite franchise). This game boasts a character roster of over 150, which is particularly great if you like some of the less mainstream characters (and isn't it about time the series' title was changed to Lego DC Super Heroes?) However, I was a bit disappointed to find that some of the characters' unique abilities have been stripped away and made more generic. For example, Poison Ivy used to have her own abilities (which included blowing love dust at her opponents), but now her move set is just a mirror of Catwoman's, using a vine as a whip. There are other DC stalwarts who seem to have lost their individuality, too; but there are also new characters who bring an impressive array of new powers and moves to the game (I particularly like Star Sapphire's "heart" attacks). All in all, Lego Batman 3 is still another welcome addition to the series, thanks mostly to the free roam. There are so many adventures to be had - as well as so much fun - meeting and unlocking dozens of characters across an entire galaxy! And the voice acting is great too, with lots of humour and cheeky in-jokes in the script. The fact that some of the actors are voicing up to 10 different characters does become a bit problematic though, as they start to sound too similar. Now for my biggest gripe. Having played Lego Batman 1 and 2 several times over - and now Lego Batman 3 - I've had to listen to Danny Elfman's score for the Tim Burton movies on a loop for hours on end - AND I JUST CAN'T STAND IT ANY LONGER!!! Please, Traveller's Tales, take pity on me! Move on to the Joel Schumacher scores, the Chris Nolan scores, use Superman Returns, Man of Steel, even the Green Lantern film score! Anything not to have to hear that bloody Elfman score again! *Dah, dah, dah, dah ... DAH!* Help ....

Lots of fun, the novelty of visiting the lantern worlds, and a pretty solid story raises this above previous LEGO games. There are piles of characters of course including a lot of obscure favourites, but a canny player will only end up getting them during endgame, and as usual you can only use the pre-chosen characters for the story playthrough. To be clear on this, if you're a DC fan at all there will be some characters you like which are not present; 150 is not, as it turns out, actually a lot. This is not unequivocally better than LEGO Batman 2 because there's so little personality in the open world(s): while Gotham city was full of interesting locations,in LEGO Batman 3 most of the open areas are seven lantern worlds (mini-planets in Super Mario Galaxy style) which feature little but a slideways gate and a central power battery. Admittedly there are a couple of characters, a bunch of enemies and some simple side quests on each of these worlds, and the remaining open areas are more interesting (Batcave, Justice League satellite, Hall of Justice), but it gives the impression of a highly constrained universe containing nothing but heroes and villains. The way that the lantern worlds are arranged (accessible only via the moon, which is initially blocked off), you could easily end up not visiting any of them before you've finished the main story.Changing suits (as seen in previous LEGO Batman games) has been extremely simplified to a quick buttonpress, and the suits ability has been expanded to three other characters. It's a lot quicker, but feels a lot more artificial, and expanding the roster of characters with "suits" invites questions about why those characters specifically should get them. However it's also extremely easy to change characters in Free Play, and these two combined make it easier to play as characters you like in your Free Play squad (including using Batman more!).The interface for purchasing unlocks has been also been extremely simplified, which is in some sense fantastic - you no longer need to hunt down that character you want to buy - but also contributes to the lack of personality in the open world as you simply don't see characters wandering around much.Acquiring gold bricks is now almost entirely pointless, with them (I think) only serving to unlock slideways gates to lantern worlds, which is completely done at a fairly low number of bricks.Overall it's a really good experience, with less character than other LEGO games.

I'm a Lego games fan, own almost all of them and I was very impressed with this one. That said the story campaign wasn't really to my taste, lots of long cut scenes and wandering round the level hub, I'd quite often gotten fed up before reaching the proper level. They've spent rather a lot of time making up a rather complex plot and I suppose it would make quite a good film if you were just watching but when you're waiting to play the game it seemed unnecessarily delaying and you can't skip them in story mode. In fact someone has made a Youtube video of all the cutscenes joined together and it has a 1 hour 17 minute run time if you want to watch them as a movie! This is really more 'The Justice League'than a Batman game and the different characters & their abilities are used to good effect. The bits of individual theme tunes are great too (Wonder Woman!). What it has been taken from the Batman games are the ability suits, happily using the first games 'choose your suit from the wheel' feature not the second games find, build and use a changing booth thing that was rather annoying, rather quickly. One feature I was very happy with was the ability to replay levels not just from the start but from the checkpoints making 100% completion much less frustrating when you don't have to play the whole level to find the last mini-kit (Harry Potter Year 7 'Might is Magic' level I'm thinking of you here!). Other than that this is a standard Lego game, smash everything, collect studs etc. The achievements add a little more reason to replay a few areas and are rather nice to get, though of the 70 listed on Steam only 40 can be gained without the DLC you get with the Season Pass, might buy that one day... I finished the retail game with all achievements in 39 hours or so which makes it longer than Batman 2 but less then the first one and lot less than Lego Marvel with it's huge free roam area.Several reviews on here mention the controller not being found by the game, I've got two controllers, one very new X-Box type [Logitech F310] and an older but fancier one, the new one worked instantly but it wasn't too hard to map the buttons of the older one the work as well, from the controller options menu.

This was purchased for my 4 year old son's birthday. I am a keen gamer and have passed this trait on to my son. There are not many games that we can play together but the Lego series is the exception to that rule. We have played almost every title to date but being fans of the superhero genre find the Lego Batman and Lego Marvel games the best.Lego Batman 3 is the 3rd game in the DC Comics series of Lego video games and is by far the best of the bunch. The story centres on Brainiac taking the powers from the various lanterns and using it to conquer worlds. Luckily this is spotted by the crime fighting duo from the Batcave and they soon set off on a grand adventure covering all corners of the universe, with the help of some Superfriends (Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lanterns et all appear in the story mode).Changes have been made from the previous Lego Batman games in the form of the suit selector. Previous games only gave Batman and Robin access to their special suits when the level dictates, now these are selectable at any time they have been unlocked by holding the Triangle button. Plus suits are not just limited to Batman and Robin; Cyborg, Joker and Lex Luthor all have variations of the different abilities.Finishing the story mode does not mean the end of the game, in typical Lego fashion it is just the start. The game features hundreds of collectables needed to reach 100% completion, from new heroes and villains, to vehicles and unlock-able extras. Together we have put in over 15 hours of play and still have another 20% of the game to complete.Another great game from Travellers Tales and we are looking forward to Lego Avengers in 2016.

I've played most of the lego games on xbox 360 and I love them! They keep me entertained for hours and even though each game is very similar and a little repetitive that's what I love about them! I enjoyed lego batman 2, particularly the Gotham hub so I was excited to play this game. I have to say to say, this game did take me much longer to get into. I found the storyline really hard to follow and it just seemed quite rushed and unimaginative. I much prefer lego games based on books or films like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings and this game was a bit disappointing because of the story. The hub is nothing compared to Gotham, Hogwarts or Middle Earth but there is still plenty to do and collect and it is good fun. They've improved several features like the flying controls which makes the races much easier and I didn't come across many glitches which is a bonus! It did seem much easier than many lego games as you have characters who can fly, laser, freeze etc very early on in the game. The only character worth waiting for was Brainiac which was another disappointing feature of the game as you didn't feel like you were progressing much with each level. My biggest complaint is the downloadable levels! I refused to spend an extra £5 just for one new level but you can't complete the xbox achievements without them. So I've completed the game 100% but only have 40/70 achievements which is really annoying! I hope that they don't continue that for the other games.Overally, a really fun lego game.. if you love the others you can't go wrong but this game definitely isn't one of their best.

This is another entry into the saga that is 'Lego Batman' ... and, like its predecessors, it's a whole lot of fun. It combines action (lots of fighting) with detective work (puzzles to solve), and can be played by both adults and children alike. It really works well as a 2-player game.Batman's world is vastly expanded here. We move beyond Gotham City to outer space! And there is a huge host of super-heroes (and villains!) to choose from, so you can play as your favourite DC character - from the Flash to Wonder Woman, from Superman to the Martian Manhunter. The story concerns the evil Brainiac - who's invading Earth, with the intention of shrinking it and adding it to his collection of planets! So you must journey around the galaxy - to various 'Green Lantern worlds' - to gather what's necessary to stop Brainiac. This is a big game - with 45 separate missions (with over 100 characters to choose from). As with previous games, the musical score is great (based on the well-known themes from the movies and TV series). The voice actors add a lot of humour to the adventure. The graphics are great (and an improvement on the last game). It's a game with much re-play value, as you seek to build all the various Lego items. As for myself, I found some of the puzzles quite challenging to work out (but my 7 year old nephew told me what to do) ... If you enjoy Lego games, and you're a fan of Batman, you'll probably like this. Thoroughly recommended.

Firstly I am here to review the game itself - not judge it for being on Steam. For the game I give 5 stars. The Good: The game play is excellent and comprehensive and I love the little touches (like original 70's Wonder Woman theme from the TV show when she flies!). There were no compatibility issues - the wired XBOX and wirelesst XBOX 360 controllers work fine. No crashes on my high spec laptop or 7 year old top spec PC - both on 7/8.1. The Steam back end ensures that you can save a game on the laptop and continue playing on the PC - nice! I know console jockies have done this for years but to the PC it's relatively new.The Bad: The ney-sayers of having "Steam" back end are numerous so let's not go there. There are some advantages and some disadvantages. The only thing I object to is that after paying £20 for a game you have to spend another £20 for the full content. I won't be doing so!After about 5 hours of game play I've completed 4 of 15 levels (I explore and collect all he coins!) They all have to be repeated in free play again - plus there are the intermediate bits - I recon it'll be 25 hours to complete - excellent value for money. I 100% completed the second game so hope when it's all unlocked there's a similar open area with puzzles - but I'll have to wait and see!!!

My son loves this game, a couple of additions to the first game. Batman and Robin can change between any suits that they have collected do far. A couple of new suits a couple of new abilities on the new suits. Another great feature is you can change suits any time you want.A couple of points this game seem to be set more in the new 52 universe. Robin is Tim Drake rather Dick Greyson. The thing that this game seems to lose is the effect of being able to run around Gotham which my kids did love in LB2. Also the puzzles are actually very hard to the point of frustration. The characters talk a lot more in between levels. Batman is back to his surly self. Dishing out tough love training to Robin.Instead of citizens in trouble the is "TV's Adam West" in trouble. I am sure like my kids most people this game is aimed at have no idea who that is. However a great continuation of the Lego Batman franchise. My son loves it. I know he is on the right path because he know Batman is so much cooler than Superman.

This was a Christmas present for our 6-year old son who's already ploughed through similar titles for Batman, Marvel, Indy Jones, Star Wars...Batman 3 has the core engine of Lego Marvel Superheroes, but with many of the little irks with that game removed. Essentially, it seems as if they've listened to the fan forums and tweaked the interface subtly to make the game that bit more fluid and user friendly. However, it does have a huge number of its own original additions as well as all these nice fixes and a good storyline. As with LMS the story mode is over a bit too soon, but there are *loads* of extras to hunt down, characters to unlock and so forth. My only real remaining complaint from the last couple of games is that the "race/time trial" tasks are flipping impossible. But that's probably more down to my (erm, I mean my son's) lack of gaming skills.

My son and I have played a lot of the Lego games, and some are really frustrating due to level design, bugs and camera angles. Batman 3 has almost none of this and I can honestly say it's the best Lego game of the lot! Gameplay wise it's mostly more of the same (good) with some great twists such as semi-3d sideways scrolling shooter segments and a cool mini-game which see's you running around a Tron style environment to unlock the code. The game also has some really good comedy, classic comic based twists and some cool extras available on free-play. I hated the open-world Gotham city in Batman 2,so not having such a feature is a good thing in my opinion. If this is the direction future Lego games are going then I'm very pleased.

My kids and I enjoy these games with the Lego brand and this one is even better than I expected. Far greater gameplay length and a great number of areas for travel and exploration, some new gameplay features added to keep it interesting. This isn't one you're going to complete in a day and neither will you get bored. Like as they did with the Marvel based Lego games they've greatly increased the number of DC characters for this game. There are some cute levels played in miniaturised European cities, ending up in a miniaturised Gotham. Other levels send you to various planets which you can then go back and roam all over as a complete planet or moon.
