This set is awesome! I love the level of detail and the variety of characters! Also, this set is well-designed and STURDY. It is easily movable, and sturdy enough that pieces do not fall off. It's great to get the trio, Malfoy and the Hufflepuff girl in one set, along with all of the staff members (Richard Harris Dumbledore, Susan Bones and Nearly Headless Nick are great additions to the Potter minifigure lineup!I love that Lego has been releasing new, minor characters in the Harry Potter line, as it does with Star Wars. (Keep it up Lego!)The accessories are also fantastic - the sorting hat is a great rendition, and the inclusion of Susan Bones really helps bring that scene to life in this model. The big cauldron and potions and Mirror of Erised are nice details for a collector, but they are also large enough to be very playable. (on that note, the tower rooms are a little small (low ceilings!), but the great hall room itself is roomy and playable)The castle is relatively easy to build, and instantly recognizable - friends and family always comment on how it looks just like the movie! I would like to see more additions to this Hogwarts in addition to the Whomping Willow set. Hopefully we will get another connecting piece or two in 2019. The qualms I have with this set are (1) the lack of an alternative build and (2) the low celiengs in the tower rooms. This is a beautiful rendition of the great hall, but the unassembled pieces are great for any Hogwarts build. I would have loved to see what "honorable mention" design the creators would have picked for the alternative. I would have loved to be able to fit some of the great 2010-era Hogwarts furniture builds into the tower rooms (the gryffindor firepalce and library from set 4842, the fat lady from the original 4709 Hogwarts), but the celings in these rooms are too low to accomodate those. I have attached photos of a build that I was able to fit, if anyone else is looking for inspiration! House Point room (All pieces are from the current wave of HP sets) Overall I definitely recommend this set. It's great on its own or as a piece of the larger collection with the whomping willow.

I first have to start off by saying how happy I am that Lego has reintroduced a Harry Potter line. Secondly I have to say that I'm happy to see that the Lego has returned to releasing buildings/play sets for this line as opposed to the constant stream of vehicles with relatively little play set play value that we have seen from lines like Star Wars. Actual structures/buildings/etc. allow for Lego fans to actually use their imagination and set up scenes instead of just lining up a row of vehicles. This Hogwarts set is pretty good. Great hall is... well great! I do have a few issues though. First, the staircase that leads to Dumbledore's office is a nice callback to the old sets, but the office itself lacks a chair or room to stand any more than one figure. Some of the equipment could be done w/o in order to fit a chair/desk... also Fawkes the phoenix shouldn't be hidden behind the Mirror of Erised, but in his office. Secondly, the Mirror of Erised has a slot on the top of the tower w/o any space to put figures in front of it. The whole point of it is for it to be a mirror that shows the minifigures' desires and not being able to put the minifigures in front of it without removing it from the tower entirely and setting it on table/etc. defeats the purpose of having a dedicated space for the mirror. Thirdly, why have the basilisk? There is no Chamber of Secrets here or even a compartment to store the basilisk. Seeing as this seems to be a first year Hogwarts set (since it includes Professor Quirrell, Mirror of Erised, etc.) I think including the troll and turning the bottom level of the tower into a dungeon (and moving the staircase and Dumbledore's office up one level) would have been a much better choice. Overall the design is very nice, but from a practicality standpoint there are some things that don't make sense when it comes to the playability of it, and additionally there are just some things within the Harry Potter world that would have made much more sense instead of throwing a basilisk into the set, etc. I'll give it a 7.5/10. Not bad at all, but definitely could be improved on.

The Great Hall set is the latest in line of Harry Potter sets I have built, and it certainly delivers on quality and detail. It comes with an abundance of minifgures, of which I found Neraly Headless Nick most impressive. Professor Quirrell minifigure also comes with a "Voldemort" face on the other side, which is a nice touch, and I found Professor McGonagall's facial expressions amusing. The children minifigures have short legs, but not moveable as they do in the Minifigure bag collection. The building experience is very good, it was particularly satisfying to build the exterior of the Great Hall. The finished result is beautiful. Other details I have enjoyed were the moving stairs, the house banners that can be changed, and the Mirror of Erised, which can be made to show any of the four scenes that appear in the book. This set was clearly designed by someone who not only had talent, but also a love for the Harry Potter story, as they've gone to great lengths to provide lovely detail that makes this set so enjoyable. On the negative side, I found Hagrid's minifigure difficult to place anywhere on the inside due to lack of space. It is also impossible to put anyone in a room with the Mirror of Erised, because of where it's placed and can't fit in any of the other rooms. I would have loved a flat brick on top of the fireplace just to keep it together, as without it it feels a bit precarious. I appreciate that the floating candles are hard to translate into LEGO, so the end solution with two black beams ended up looking a bit clunky, and the exposed pin in the centre doesn't look as great - maybe even transparent beams would help? The tower roof doesn't look as fantastic with the sloped brick leaning against the smooth round brick. But these are just little things among a lot of positives.Overall it's a great set that I am looking forward to building again, and pairing up with more HP sets.

With the beginning of the new J.K. Rowling-written series Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, there was a great opportunity for LEGO to dust off its Harry Potter licence and release not just sets based on the new movies, but also create or re-imagine sets featuring elements of the original series of Harry Potter movies. Badged as 'Wizarding World', these new sets can be accused of being a cash-in, but equally they also offer an opportunity for fans to pick up models that never previously existed or versions of sets they may have missed on initial release.Hogwarts Great Hall is arguably the best example of the new Wizarding World range. It is superb. Nicely detailed, with a number of play features and a whopping 10 minifigures included. If you only owned one Harry Potter LEGO set, you would be pretty satisfied with this one.The build is a few hours long and mostly good fun (some of the roof and exterior gets a little monotonous). The interior of the hall looks great and there are a few nice play features, such as rotating banners, a changing mirror, movable staircase and so on. The set is geared around the earlier Harry Potter movies but is the better for it, as this was when the hall featured the most. The tower attached to the side features a couple of very small extra rooms, but due to their size they lack much detail. The big draw for a lot of fans will be the included minifigures and they are both a good range and well designed. Most of the central characters are represented with the younger group of Harry, Hermione, Ron etc. produced in 'child' minifigure form. The asking price of (currently) £80 feels like a bit of a steal for a set of its size and scale. If you are in any way interested in the LEGO Wizarding World range, I can't recommend the Hogwarts Great Hall enough, it is a very worthy addition to any collection.

Over all, the set is pretty good. However there are a few things I would change if I were designing it. The rooms in the tower all seem to be a waste of space to me. Both rooms in the tower kind of just have random magic things in them. LEGO could have made use of this space better by putting iconic rooms from Hogwarts here, which would make it more appealing to both kids and fans. The mirror of erised is also positioned a bit oddly. When you put a minifuigre in front of it, their face is litterly right up against it, which looks really weird. With my set, I moved the mirror of erised to where the other rooms are and got rid of one of the floors, so it would fit.The basalisk included looks a bit strange because it is black instead of green like it is in the movie and its shape is also a bit non-realistic. The next thing I changed with my set is the positioning of the flags, it was a bit odd that they weren't positioned over the house tables, so I moved them over so that they were. I also added the turrets coming off of the roof of the tower to make it look more like the real thing, however I don't think LEGO nessisarily needed to add this, it was just something I did to improve it. I enjoyed doing all these customizations, though and it makes mine unique. I like how you can combine all the different Hogwarts sets to make a larger Hogwarts at a cheaper price and with more features than the big one. The great hall its self looks pretty good and so does the exterior of the set. All the minifigures are pretty good, but the Dumbledore figure does not seem to be quite as good as the ones that have come out more recently. LEGO has seemed to improve how realistic their sets are with all the new waves of sets that have come out now, so I would recomend getting a different Harry Potter set over this one if you could only get one.

First of all, I am VERY excited that Harry Potter is back and not to mention very much improved!!! The old sets were great and all (because it was about Harry Potter) but the elements and figures were a little bit of a letdown. I’m happy to say though (as a Master Builder) that after buying Hogwarts Great Hall, the Whomping Willow, the Quidditch Match, Aragog’s Lair, and Hogwarts Express, I can say that these sets are MUCH improved from there “ancestor sets” and I am enjoying every minute I get with these sets. The possibilities are ENDLESS!!!Second of all, THIS set is great for SOOOOOO many reasons. Because there are so many, I’ll hit up on the highlights:1.Figures are AMAZING!!!I have never bought a set with better figures than this set. The detail on everything from the faces to the legs is great. And also, if you turn around Professor Quirrel’s head you actually see (Spoiler Alert) Voldemort’s face like in the Book Series! 2. The ElementsFrom the doors into the hall, to the Ski Poles used as spires on top of the Castle (nice touch LEGO;)) the elements are great.3. The SizeGREAT size! For only 800 pieces, this sets seems SO much bigger than your average 800 piece set. I guess that’s why it’s $20 more expensive than other sets (based on LEGO Pricing Team standards) with th same size but I would definitely buy it again. The only downsides to this set that I can find are these:1. Repetitive Windows. You have to make almost 40 of the old Castle Theme arched window panes.2. The StickersAs a collector, I understand that LEGO has to use stickers on sets like City and Juniors and even Marvel, but for sets like these! Really!! I expect more for Collectors sets that have come out of the vault like this. Other than that this set is positively phenomenal! Can’t wait for Waves to come.

I am a huge fan of both Lego and Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts and we buy and build a lot of Lego throughout the year in our home. This has been my favourite build out of the new sets and it was such a lovely build and looks fantastic when finished. My Children love the finished set and have played with it for hours and hours alongside the other sets we have and my Son's favourite character is Nearly Headless Nick.Age Suitability:-This set is aimed at children between 9 and 14 years old and it does have a few slightly more difficult areas of the build such as the apex above the doors to the hall as this collapsed on my Son a couple of times but it is mainly quite straightforward.Build Bags etc:-This is a large sized set and has 878 pieces with some small spares. The set has one easy to follow step by step instruction booklet and six main build bags. There are also two small sticker sheets with some stickers to apply.Figures:-The set comes with Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Susan Bones, Draco Malfoy, Hagrid, Professor McGonagall, Professor Dumbledore, Professor Quirrell and Nearly Headless Nick figures and so has a whopping ten figures in the set. There is also a buildable Basilisk and Fawkes the Phoenix along with Hedwig, Scabbers and the Sorting Hat.Features:-The flags in the great hall can be changed, the staircase can be magically expanded and then made to disappear and the Mirror of Erised can change to reflect different scenes just like in the film. There is lots of play value with the great hall where the sorting hat can be used or Malfoy and Harry can duel. The set can also be attached to the

My daughter built this LEGO set and found it an enjoyable build that took several hours. The instructions were clear and all the pieces were there, with some spare in case you lost any. It comes with the now usual brick separator in case you do something wrong and need a hand taking it apart. You get 10 minifigures which is a great number to get with a set, including the lovable Hagrid and everyone’s favourite Dumbledore. You also get the Basilisk, Fawkes the phoenix, Hedwig and Scabbers. If you collect all the Harry Potter sets, you’re likely to end up with a few doubles on characters (in the same outfits), but surprising it’s not that many. The great hall is pretty impressive looking and includes a lot of architectural detail, and many fancy windows. On the inside it’s full of special little touches like the moving staircase, the Mirror of Erised, food on the tables, floating candles, the sorting hat and the house banners. There’s also the boat so your characters can arrive by water. The great hall can connect to the Whomping Willow set if you have it, increasing the space for play even more. It is pretty tall so if you’re planning on displaying it, make sure you have enough space on the shelf – we ended up having to move the shelf above so we could fit it in!One minor downside is that you have to decide which way to display it – either the inside or the outside. My daughter would have like to have been able to show of the outside details as well as the inside. It’s one of the more expensive kits but you do get a lot for your money, with 878 pieces (although I didn’t count them to check!), and a lot of detail.

My 9-year-old and I built this set on a rainy Sunday afternoon. It is an excellent set, full of detail, down to spiral staircase and Scabbers the rat. This set combines elements from the first two books - the mirror of Erised and Professor Quirrell, but also the basilisk. The speed at which this set went together was faster than when we built the smaller forest set. The difference was that I was not helping this time. The instructions are clear for the most part, and there were only two occasions in which we had to invoke the Great Spirit of Lego that looms in the basement playing video games. (At least I think he is a spirit. He is pretty pale). He came up and talked us through where we were confused.I really like Lego sets that are based on movies because my son is on the spectrum, and he prefers structure. The instructions provide it. He can follow along, step by step, and create something the way it is supposed to be. It is also a gentle lesson in natural consequences. If the steps are not followed, the set doesn't come together the way it is supposed toIf you're looking for a set that has a lot of playability, this set isn't it. There is not a lot to DO with it - few moving pieces. But the detail and the mini figures make it an excellent addition for the collector who needs to bask in all things Harry Potter. I do hope Lego makes more of these sets in coming years. I need them all!

I've been lucky enough to get Lego for review from Amazon Vine this month.I've noted the various reviews below seem mixed for various sets. This is for The Great Hall.I've added photos to the review to show the detail included in this set. This comes with six bags and a 180 page instruction booklet. Thankfully Lego instructions are always very very clear and this set is no exception. For those who are buying for children it's worth knowing that Bag 1 as always with Lego gives three figures, Hagrid's boat, Fawkes the Phoenix and the Mirror of Erised. This is the good thing about Lego sets as Bag 1 always gives stuff which can be played with immediately. It's taken me as an adult three days to puttogether so having a few "playable with" pieces in Bag 1 is excellent for children who may take much longer.Lots of figures in this set including Dumbledore, Professor Quirrel, Nearly Headless Nick, Professor McGonagall and my favourite Hagrid complete with his pink umbrella. It also has Harry, Ron, Hermoine, Draco and Susan Bones. Harry and Ron come with Hedwig and Scabbers the rat.Great detail in the Hall including goblets, food and a fireplace. The tower has Dumbledore's office with the Sorting Hat and various other detail.Wonderful set. Thank you Lego and Amazon Vine for allowing me the opportunity to review this.

I missed all the past Harry Potter releases throughout the years, and i have to say I'm not upset about it because this new wave is refreshing.I'll start with a brief upset over this set (it's like the only real gripe i can come up with): Dumbledore's office is...missing. It's only a brief upset because after i added the whomping willow set to this one i did a few changes to snapes office and turned it into Dumbledore's office (even added Dumbledore's vision plate and Tom Riddle's diary from the collectible minifigures)Oh, well...one more minor complaint...the pier keeps falling off. Will have to anchor it on better when i get a chance. The rest of this set is great and visually satisfying; especially from the exterior. There's just so much to appreciate that's it's best to just make the purchase, build, and enjoy. Even the sorting hat is awesome to look at. Oh, and if you get the triwizard cup from the collectible minifigures consider placing it behind the professor's table in the great hall. I'm hoping they release more additions to the castle like the Whomping Willow set. Maybe adding a library, green house, and defense against dark arts class room along with Hagrid's hut?

I bought this for my 6 year old daughter. The look on my daughter's face said it all when she saw the constructed hall. She was in awe.I found this to be a very involved build that took me some time. 6 large bags, bases and 2 big manuals for this build. I really liked the mini-figs in this set a lot. Particularly, Hagrid (I just love that one), the red Dumbledore, Professor Mcgonagall, and Professor Quirrell stood out for me.The Basilisk, Fawkes, the Sorting Hat and Mirror of Erised were great features.I enjoyed the use of the diamond lattice window panes. They really stood out for me. It makes for a great decorative effect. And when the light hits it just right it's perfect.Probably the only things I would have changed is how they handled the candles hanging over the Great Hall and the stairs. The candles were really a pain to put together for someone with big hands. The stairs just never stay open if you want to use them. My daughter did complain about those more than once.I think they could have taken a different approach on both, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't take away from the playability of this set at all.

This is a really good playset and lots of options to play and place your included figures. With everything from a tiny dormitory to a moving staircase there is more than just the Dining Hall included in the set and it gives you a lot of play value once built. I have to admit the included basilisk is really fun and we have found ourselves randomly attacking each other with it for no other reason than it is funny.Okay, the build itself is the important bit for me and this was one of the more complicated builds I have taken on. By following the printed instructions it is actually much easier than I thought it would be. The images are clear and with the bricks being pre-sorted in to bags it makes it a joy to build. The fact it is split in to bags also gives you natural break points but I will admit I just built this in one gleeful sitting. The only real problem is how addictive this is and it has led me down a rabbit hole of kits that link with this one.Number Of Pieces: 878Approximate Price Per Piece: £0.10Build Time: 3 Hours

I Purchased This Set The Day It Came Out With Also The Whomping Willow Set But Were Not Here For That Set Anyway The Great Hall Set Is Brilliant It Has Loads Of Features Like The Great Hall Itself Where They Have There Huge Feasts , The Mirror Of Erised , The Sorting Hat , Fawkes The Phoenix and Just Tons Of Accessories As Well , It Also Includes A Spiral Set Of Stairs To Get To The Next Floor In The Main Tower . The Mini figures Were Also A Great Addition To The Set Including My Favourite Professor With His Amusing Stutter Professor Quirinus Quirrell Who Is Of Course Lord Voldemort . The Set Is Based Off The Philosopher's Stone The First Movie But They Also Included In The Set A Small BuildOf The Basilisk Which Only Appears In The Second Movie The Chamber Of Secrets So It Could Be Two Movie Scenes Rolled Into One , But The Only Problem For Me With This Set Is That The Basilisk That's Included Is Nothing Like A Basilisk At All Not Even A Mere Image From The One In The Second Movie , So To Me That Let Me Down For This Set .
