Not got enough orange Technics pieces in your Lego collection? Here’s your answer! This little vehicle is a miniature symphony in orange, and though it’s only small, it certainly stands out when on display or when being played with. Aside than the colour though, in other ways it’s a touch more modest. It’s one of the simplest Technics builds we’ve seen in a while, and although there are quite a few quirky details in the styling to imitate a real ZR1, underneath the working steering wheel and the working pistons are the same quite generic mechanisms that crop up in plenty of other Technics sets, so if you’ve already built any set that has steering or the piston effect, this may seem like treading old ground. My daughter and I worked through this in under a couple of hours. The result looks quite cool, with a few nice details that will appeal to petrolheads, and it does appeal to my grew-up-in-the-80’s ideas of what a cool car should look like as well.As yet we haven’t tried the alternative build of the hot rod set though. While other Lego alternative builds look quite a lot like the main models, the classic hot rod style of the alternative build here looks really curious- completely different to the main model, and it even manages to look less orange somehow. For the sheer difference of it I think it’s quite likely we’ll come back and revisit it and try the second model quite soon- though my young son doesn’t look like he’s going to stop enjoying running the Corvette up and down the living room any time soon, so who knows when that will actually be…It’s a reasonably priced set that may be short on surprises but which will still appeal to Corvette fans or any kids who like to go vrrrooooooooommmmmmm!

For reference this is my first technic build in years but I had to purchase this as soon as I saw my favorite corvette built after 1969 (stingray). When I saw the rear differential on page 1 I was immediately excited to see what internals this build had in store. The overall design of this set is wonderful with the detail in the motor really shining through. The pistons on this model actually fire and are truly unique to this set as far as I know. They are connected to the rear wheels which is a nice touch considering the zr1 is a rear wheel drive vehicle. I am also very impressed with the turning system. It adds a layer of playability aven for older builders. This set isn't visually perfect but it is always difficult to create curves on a small scale model like this one. The interior of this model is lacking slightly with only 2 racing seats and a steering wheel but I buy technic sets mainly for the mechanical attributes regardless. I also wish that the doors opened but again it is a smaller model and space is at a premium. It comes with 7 extra parts that are all small and easy to lose track of so they were well chosen and appreciated. The most unique part is the rebuild value of this 2in1 set. It can also be made into a hot rod using online instructions. These instructions are, however, not yet available in the website so I cannot yet build it. Hopefully this is fixed in the future as I am looking forward to disassembling and rebuilding this set. Overall this was one of my favorite builds in memory and I highly recommend it. I hope Lego makes more 2in1 sets like this in the future.

As an adult fan and avid collector of Lego I enjoyed putting this together, it looks good when finished although could be better. The Build - 5/5A thoroughly enjoyable overall build, it took me around 5-6 hours. There are some intricate parts and some clever ways around the trickier aspects such as the steering being turned using a gear at the rear rather than the steering wheel due to the smaller size making it difficult to gain access to the main cabin, but nothing of great difficulty. The Finished Product - 3.5/5Whilst I like how the finished build looks, it maybe doesn't look close enough to the real car - also, the wheels aren’t in scale to the car,I feel they needed to be custom pieces that would match the other custom pieces on the car. Also - given the other detail - it would have also been nice to have opening doors. The build kind of leads you to thinking they would open, but then you end up realising it's just solid mounted doors. Other than that there are some very good features within, the steering works from a rear mounted gear, the engine moves with the rotation of the rear wheels which is a nice addition.Instructions - 5/5As with all Lego products the instructions were fantastic, with page by page easy to follow instructions.Overall a decent build that is set at a decent price point for the size. Perfect for young teenagers to AFOL’s alike that fits in well with the smaller models in the creator range. Aside from the design issues I had a lot of fun building this and isn’t that what it’s all about?

I am relatively new to the Lego family (although my older son has been building sets for years and was a big influence on me to start building)...In my youth, I would spend hours upon hours of building, painting, etc. plastic models of all kinds of things...but cars models were my favorite...I recently built the VW Bug (1,167 pieces - 9 hour build) and the Technic Porsche 911 RSR (1,580 Pieces – 21 hours build) and I needed something to get me through the time being spent at home (stay-at-home orders NY) and waiting for my back orders from Lego to be filled...I liked the idea that it was a kit that you could build 2 different models...the ZR1 and a “hot rod”...It was an approximately a 4.5 hour total build (2 hours on the Hot Rod,2.5 hours on the ZR1)...I built the hot rod first and then broke it down and then built the ZR1...considering the set was a limited amount of pieces (600ish) it was a great set and well worth the price...interesting that the instructions for the hot rod were only on-line - saved on 2 sets of printed plans...I actually liked the on-line instructions - built both models from them...they are great - they are 3D and can be manipulated to turn the images in any direction...The build difficulty was on a 3 level...Needless to say, I am hooked and already on the "slippery slope" of Lego...no surprise here...

A little about me at first, I am an avid car enthusiast and I have just started building and painting plastic model car kits. This has been my first Lego set in years. I wanted to try Lego Technic for its moving mechanical components as opposed to the curbside plastic models I glue and paint. I saw this Chevy Corvette and thought why not try it out (as it was cheaper than all other Technic car sets) and its colour is really eye popping. I read all the reviews on this particular model and despite some of the negative feedback, I decided to purchase it.The build experience was a pleasure to the point that I was pacing myself and doing a bit each day to stretch it out over a week and building my corvette was my favourite part of the day to look forward to.The mechanical components like the V8 engine and rear differential assembly were incredibly fun to build. The model itself after being completed resembles a Chevrolet Corvette pretty accurately. Keyword here is resembles... If you are looking for a model replica of the Corvette, look into buying a plastic model kit, not this kit. With what pieces Lego had provided with this kit, I think they did an excellent job. This model now stands beside my other plastic model kits and I will be purchasing other Technic sets after this fun experience.

The other half has been saying I need to try the Technic's kits but I have been resisting as all those tiny little gears and cogs were putting me off. Why? Why did I let that put me off? This was a really fun build although the fact that it comes with a plethora of bags (okay i think it was 4) that are not numbered so you need to open them all before you start the build. My table was covered in pieces because I have to lay everything out in colour and piece order. Yes, it makes building easier for me but it also looks kind of pretty on the table. No joke, half an hour of the build time was just me sorting pieces before I even opened the booklet.I'm not sure how close the finished product is toa genuine Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 but it looks great on my shelf which could just be due to the colour as the orange is really bright. I was going to break it down and download the Hot Rod instructions but I didn't have the heart once it was finished. May buy a second version of the kit just to do the Hot Rod but we shall see.Number Of Pieces: 579Approximate Price Per Piece: £0.07Build Time: 3 Hours 10 Minutes

As a small boy my parents bought me so much Lego, it is frightening to think how much they spent. The bricks and shapes I could create kept me fascinated for hours. I remember my finest "creation" was built from a box of "Technical" lego and it was a motorised crane. I still have it all in a great big Lego floor bag. Sadly the instructions to build the crane has gone, but it does not stop the next generations from using their imaginations and creativity to build things from the innocent looking bricks. When Vine offers Lego sets I, of course, grab them, but nowadays, I ensure they are not mixed up with the general bag and the boxes and instructions are kept. This item is part of a set that focuses on cars, this one being a Corvette. It contains bricks to make the super car. This is not an easy set to build and is suitable for ages from 7/8 years old. Once built, Lego is about imagination and this car looks great and will "fire" up the young imagination. It's a nice set and I am very happy to Recommend it.

I got this set thinking “Let’s take a whack at a Technic set. I haven’t done one of those in a while.” As a set, it’s okay. It’s a decent looking car with a nice color scheme and pretty cool wheels. What can it do? Steer. That’s it. The doors don’t even open, which is a little strange, but i guess the design didn’t allow for opening doors. Speaking of which, this is *supposed* to look like a Corvette. The most Corvette-looking side is the back with the tail lights, but every other side is just “eh, sort of.” The wheels need to be just a bit bigger to fit the rest of the car, and the front end is a little rough, but looks okay. Not too bad. I found an RC mod for it and plan to increase playability by doing that in the future. If you bought two of these and did one into the Hot Rod, you could have 3 cars on the Car Transporter. Just a thought. Try it out for yourself, but my opinion is it’s alright for the price even if it looks nothing like a Corvette. Have fun and keep building!

I have come to rather like the LEGO sets that have more than one design that can be built. It helps lessen my feeling that some of the LEGO sets hinder creativity by being a bit too ‘painting-by-numbers’ in their approach. At least this way there is some replayability, if not out-and-out freedom - although that’s not to say you couldn’t use the parts to cobble something else together if you wanted, but that’s not the point of these sorts of sets. You shouldn’t get the pieces from these sorts of sets mixed up with other sets else you’ll never manage to make the model again.Anyway, this ZR1 Corvette doesn’t look a whole lot like a Corvette if you ask me - maybe one that’s been to the wrecking yard.My preference however was the alternative build - the Hot Rod. This is more distinctive in its silhouette and I am quite pleased with the outcome.Given the size and detail level, and that it is a 2-in-1 model, I think a price of around the £30-35 mark is fair for this.

This is a great set even at full price so if you can pick it up at a discount then it’s a bargain.Assembly is easy for anyone already comfortable with Technic sets. I went wrong at one point - my own fault - and had to do a partial disassemble, which isn't as way as with regular Lego!Completed model looks great in my opinion and is the right scale to work together with 42098 Technic Car Transporter. The car has working steering, operated by a wheel on the back, and the engine pistons pop up and down in turn thanks to some clever cam work under the chassis. Wheel movement is smooth and the model has plenty of play potential. And because it’s Technic it’s much more sturdy than a regular Lego vehicle.Folks will argue about how much it resembles the ZR1 in real life but for me it’s decent enough representation. Overall I thought it was great.

This one was a cool gift, and my first Technic thing.Anyway, it was a remarkable journey to build and see that they had added in the engine, pistons, diff, and steering (not connected to the steering wheel). Pretty cool stuff.Only points of improvement would be:1. The front wheels can contact the wheel bay when at full lock. This can easily be resolved by placing one pin (#6558) on each side to slightly restrict the steering in the offending direction.2. The exhaust is flimsy. Again, the exhaust could appear the same, and not be flimsy, if it were constructed from 4 x #2780 pins and 4 x #18654.Anyway, it did get me into a Technic phase, was really cool and lots of fun. (Also,I tried with the part numbers above via google, but they may not be correct.)

This is a very cool set, with the awesome orange color, and the fantastic engine and the tiny pistons. These pistons were on the Mack Anthem though already. It is quite nice that the steering control is at the back, giving it a nice twist, plus the awkwardness of it being on top is gone. There are plenty unique pieces for a $50 set. The behind is quite weird, though, since it is kind of two squarish without curves. It's somewhat sad that there are only two features in this car, the engine and the steering; I wish there were opening doors and an adjustable spoiler or something. But those are the only cons; everything else looks super cool and awesome, and it is quite great that a brand name car is available at such a low price!I'd definitely buy it if I were you!

This set definitely focuses on the engineering and chassis detail with working steering, a functional rear differential, and a basic crankshaft with working pistons (albeit without a cylinder block). In terms of the kit construction, I particularly like how the steering mechanism and prop shaft are constructed together down the centre of the vehicle, with the seats either side. If I had a small criticism, it would be the doors, bonnet and roof are fixed. If one of these were able to be opened, this would have been a great detail. In terms of appearance. I would say the rear is more convincing than the front and the rear tyre to arch gap is a touch too big,but these small points are not enough to detract from what a quality set this is. Recommended.

I'm not a Lego man, never have been really, and I'm not a car man either so if it was for me this set would do nothing. But for a 13 year old who is well into his Lego and cars this was definitely a winner. It's not the simplest of sets to put together, with a few fiddly bits, but I would think the guide age of 9+ is about fair. Younger, less experienced Lego users might need a little bit of adult supervision/help but that will always be done to personal capability. You can build 2 different models with the kit (though obviously only one at a time) and there is some play value out of them when they are put together. All in all if you have a kid who likes Lego and cars, this is another great piece of kit.
