I got worried, sitting in the cinema, when the trailers included one for “Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom” on Nick Junior (i.e. on TV. If you’ve got kids, you’ll know it). By the time the trailer for “Peppa Pig: My First Cinema Experience” came on, I was getting seriously concerned.I had nothing to be worried about. The film is hilarious. Absolutely hilarious. If you haven’t got kids, see it anyway. There’s lots of jokes for adults in it too. Indeed, the Gremlins feature in the film – many children are not even going to understand what they are. Maybe you should prepare them by showing them online clips of Gremilns and the Daleks before you take them to see it.The jokes start from the moment the film starts – and I mean from the start. You know how films tend to open with the logo of the film company that made it? This one opens with the logo of “RatPac” which financed the film. The low, gravely voice of Batman (Will Arnett) does a voiceover:“I don’t know who RatPac are but I dig the logo. Very macho”.It’s like a warm-up act before a comedy... immediately followed by Batman saying:“Prepare to read”(Huh?, I thought). A quote comes up on the screen:“If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change. Michael Jackson”.Batman announces that the quote is his. The words “Michael Jackson” get unceremoniously booted off and replaced with “Batman”.The following is revealed either in the first 15 or so minutes of the film or in the cinema trailer so I am not giving anything important away.As I said, many of the jokes are for the adults. For example, here is an exchange between Batman and The Joker, about five minutes into the film, which sets the scene for the rest of the film:Joker: “Come and catch your greatest enemy”Batman: “Superman is my greatest enemy”Joker: “Superman’s not a bad guy”Batman: “Then I’d say that I don’t currently have a bad guy. I am fighting a few different people”(Pause. Pause. Then music to emphasise the importance of the next sentence)Batman: “…I like to fight around”The Joker, feeling dumped, takes offence. He is heartbroken at being unloved – or “unhated” – by Batman. He seeks to redress that and to become Batman’s “Greatest Enemy” – indeed, that is the basis of the rest of the film.A few more wisecracks from the film:Batman says: “Let me tell you something. Batman doesn’t do ships…” (Did he say “s**ts?)” “…relationships”.And:“Remember, kids. If you want to be like Batman… take care of your abs”.And, a little later::“How are your abs, bro? Too much flab, not enough ab”Then there’s this, which had the audience in the cinema rolling around in laughter:Man from Orphanage to Batman: “I’m Richard Grayson but all the kids at the orphanage call me Dick”.Even the Daleks appear in the film. The gravelly voice of Batman explains them to the American audience:“British robots. Ask your nerd friends”.Yes, this US film flies the flag for the UK. Indeed, one of the best lines in the film (when a monster gets beaten) is:“Ha Ha! You just got Union Jacked”.A superb film.

This review comes with a warning. Do not give your Roku stick to your mother-in-law in France before adjusting the permissions on it. There I was, happily minding my own business, and I get a Thank You For Renting Lego Batman movie. This was a few weeks after I had previously 'bought' Ninjago, another Lego film. Am I a Lego film nut? Has my account been hacked by nefarious kids in another part of the world? All was answered when it was discovered that the sales were made in Paris, on my old Roku. Now my mother-in-law is a French African lady in her 70s and I had never before imagined her as a Lego film fan. And, of course, it turned out that there hadn't been some bizarre conversion taking place in Paris. No, my mother-in-law had been babysitting my nephews and nieces and the eldest had decided that he would rather like to watch the films. Being far more savvy than her in using the remote, he had helped himself to the Lego oeuvre and Mr. Pugh had a small bill to pay. I am known as a generous person among my contemporaries so didn't pursue legal action against him. At least not until he reaches 18. Nevertheless, I was very relieved that he didn't access something much more troubling on Amazon Prime and managed to change the settings before he sat down to watch Cannibal Holocaust with his fried chicken.I've actually watched a bit of the film previously and can report that is quite fun though a bit too 'knowing'. In other words, it tries a bit too desperately to wink to the adults at jokes that go above the heads of the kids. Nevertheless, it's pleasant enough and I eagerly look forward to the upcoming Lego versions of 'Glengarry Glen Ross' and 'The Hourglass Sanatorium'.

This is a difficult one to review because my seven-year-old son, who seemed to enjoy it (for the second time), says he gives it five stars. So that's what we'll give it. But my opinion is considerably different. This 'film' takes the record for putting me to sleep: twice in the cinema on my first viewing and once in my living room. That beats Gremlins 2 by one. So it's not really fair for me to rate the whole experience, as I didn't have it on either occasion, although I can say I enjoyed all three naps. Of what I did see of this 'movie', it's like an overdose of E numbers (or possibly even E): garish, jittery, seizure-inducing (possibly) non-stop movement; jerky animation that kids seem to love. It's not really my thing. Special mention goes to the audio track though, which sounds like everyone phoned in their performances, most likely from the bathroom while bathing or, gosh, doing the dirty business. At points you can even hear the actors wiping their A-holes on the money they received for this tosh. The vocal track is annoyingly low in the overall mix, frequently clashing with the music track, and quite often doesn't fit with the action on-screen. The humour is one joke repeated over and over, based on the concept that Batman is a loner manchild. There's even one 'dick' joke in there, which is hardly appropriate. I expect the sequel to include flippant references to necrophilia. To sum up, my kid loved it. I thought it was horrible.

Will Arnett lends his deliciously gravelly vocals to Lego Batman portrayed here as a successful yet arrogant crime fighter fighting, not only crime, but his crippling loneliness. Harry Nilsson’s One (Is the Loneliest Number) is used to brilliant effect in the movie. It is obviously billed as a kids’ movie but there are enough witty asides for the grown-ups to enjoy the feature.Without wanting to give too much away, Batman refuses Joker’s need for a committed hero / villain combat relationship, preferring instead to “fight around” with Superman, Bane et al. Joker doesn’t take this well and a series of hijinks ensues. Batman is obviously the star of the show but there are ‘solid’ performances by the inadvertently adopted son Dick Grayson, faithful butler Alfred and Commissioner Barbara Gordon. The Batman “lobster thermidor” scene which I think was also in the teaser trailers…properly gives me the giggles every time I watch it. I personally prefer this movie to its predecessor, the Lego Movie, which, aside from the coffee shop scene, didn’t really hold my interest. I really enjoyed this movie and am expecting to see the Lego Ninjago Movie at the cinema later this month which I am hoping will be just as good.

This is one of the most entertaining films I've ever seen and I'm 36! Laugh-out-loud funny throughout, a surprising array of iconic characters (hint: beyond what you probably expect), incredible animation, a stellar cast and great vocal performances - Will Arnett (of Arrested Development) is just fantastic. It's stuffed with references to the preceding incarnations of Batman, the DC universe and general movie lore. Geeks will truly geek out. I loved the first Lego Movie but this blew it out the water imo. It's an absolute treat and I'm astonished by the unfavourable reviews. All I can say is some people have no sense of humour and no sense of fun.I will definitely be recommending this film to everyone I know - my siblings, nieces, nephews, parents and friends. It should amuse ALL ages, except perhaps the very young. Superb entertainment with real heart and positive messages about family and friends. It will give you the feels.LOVED IT.

Not just for Batman fans, this Lego Batman is as good if not better than the original Lego Movie. I found myself drawn into the story as much as my 8 year old son and some of the humour was lost on him but I found it really funny. Also it has emotion and I was almost in tears at one point and had to remind myself that I'm watching a lego movie!! The storyline is exciting and very watchable at no point did we feel bored and it's an intense but easy to follow storyline for all ages which can be watched again and again, we have watched it twice already. Loads of instantly recognisable Lego Minifigures make an appearance much to my son's delight. Also the moral to this story is things are better enjoyed together and Batman learns along the way that he no longer wants or needs to be alone in his mansion, he can let love in to his life and is all the better for it. Highly recommended.

I went to the cinema yesterday to see this with my 3yr old son and he loved it. I've given it a 4 out of 5 as the story and gags are for the parents. All the references to other batman movies children will not understand. The story is a little complicated for smaller children. Anyone familiar with the Batman universe will understand the story and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It's a film for all ages and that's quite rare as most children's films have nothing to interest the parents, so it's nice everyone can enjoy the same film without either getting bored. Easily as good as The lego movie if not better. I recommend it, you won't be disappointed.

I watched this with my sister (23 and 29 years old) and we both thought it was absolutely hilarious! After us both really enjoying and crying with laughter at the LEGO Movie and not being a massive fan of Batman - we are more Marvel fans! - we just had to watch this. This has made me love Batman - the LEGO depiction anyway.Really enjoyed this film and as always I found it quite emotional (Kids' films effect me more for some reason!), it was a really good laugh and suitable for both young and older generations! The sound and picture quality were fantastic, there was no need for me to keep turning the volume up.

What is there not to like about this movie? It is so funny, and just so well put together, i dont think i have ever watched a fully animated movie all the way through before, they just dont hold my interest, but this one came up on prime and i thought i would give it a go, my niece and nephew stayed over and we watched it together, such good fun and thats about it really!

This is just simply the best batman portrayal I have ever seen. I am 46 and a real fan of Batman, but Lego have done something very special they have brought out the inner bat the egotistic side of Bruce Wayne - you love me, I love me, everyone loves me. It had me in laughing out loud from start to finish. Great gags, wonderful animation and truly one for all the geeks.

31.7.2017

Arnett puts in a great performance as batman, funny, intelligent, well delivered comic timing. Lego films are funny, batman is a great source of material to be funny with. This film is great! It gets a bit slow and the ending is a bit soppy but it is a kids film. Lots to spot and pick up through out the film. Kids will love it and adults will appreciate it and laugh!

1.9.2017

Really good movie and I'm not a lego movie fan - it is a good family movie, and has frequent laugh out loud moments - you'll see if it's for you from the opening gag when the screen goes completely black and you hear batman's voiceover before the starting credits - if you find that funny you'll love the rest of the movie - if you don't then it's not one for you.

28.7.2017

Great family fun movie! I think it works better for adults as I am not sure the kids get all the references and gags in the movie, but my son who is 8 has his favourite parts and quotes of the film which are completely different to the ones that I really like. Very cool that these lego movies and most family/kid movies work like this these days. Lots of fun!!
