My son (just turned six) has enjoyed playing with Lego for a couple of years now. He's managed some of the less-sophisticated Star Wars sets by himself and even completed some of the more complicated ones (with a bit of help from Daddy) so I wasn't sure whether this set would grab him or not. It did!I think there are two big differences between this set and the ones he's done before. Firstly, the models are easier to make. This is great for junior's self-esteem because he can crack on unaided and churn out a couple of cool-looking models in a relatively short space of time. Secondly, once constructed, the models can actually be played with! Most of the Star Wars sets (and Superhero ones, and Lord of the Rings, etc.) fall apart if you dare touch them, let alone swoosh them round the room. Not so with Lego Juniors, it seems - these things were racing, skidding and crashing round the lounge for hours. Sure, a couple of bits fell off, but they were easy for my son to repair on his own.So a big thumbs up there. This set also comes with a bag of traditional Lego bricks, along with instructions on how to modify the vehicles and scenery you have already made. Now, we've bought buckets of bricks before but they've never really grabbed my son's attention. For some reason though, after following the instructions to make the cars and starting line, he was content to rip open the bag of bricks and make all sorts of new stuff, like his creative juices had been given the kick start they needed. It was brilliant to see.And one last little thing while I think of it - no stickers! There are decorated pieces but they come pre-decorated. Lego stickers are a one shot deal and, in my opinion, the one part of a Lego kit likely to cause a meltdown. No such problems here. That's a nice touch. So there you go. In my household, this set is a winner. Other sets are already being added to the Christmas list, and it's not even August...

This set was a real hit in our house. There's an area at our local Legoland Discovery Centre that my 5-year-old son loves to play, where there are tracks set up for building your own race cars and testing them on ramps etc. Given his fondness for creating Lego cars, it was no surprise that this Race Car Rally set was so well received.Aimed at 4-7 year olds, these Lego Junior sets bridge the gap nicely between Duplo and the more fiddly, older Lego sets. The box is a great idea, because we have tons of miscellaneous pieces of Lego lying around the house and nobody wants to shell out for a Lego-specific storage box, so I'm pretty impressed that they've started to be packaged in these reusable cases. The cars are colourful and easy to assemble, some of the extras are a bit superfluous, but generally this is a well-loved set.Update for 2015 - We're still playing with this set, mixing it up with some others, and it's a hit. It doesn't matter that my daughter is getting older and doesn't want to build the same cars detailed in the instruction booklet, there are enough pieces in the set for her to be creative.

This is such a fun lego set! My six year old daughter has really taken to these, and I think it is because you get to legitimately play with the end result! She has dozens of lego sets but they all make things that tend to get put on a shelf and admired from afar (the lego tyrannosaurus rex, the tardis, etc). The difference with this set is that they are easily assembled, and can be used for such fun afterwards! The set contains two mini-figures, to be the drivers. It also contains little race track accessories, and enough bricks that your child can happily let their imagination flow. The box, that the set is contained in, is spacious enough to add extra lego bricks or sets, and is a great storage container for the pieces.Overall, this is bound to make any young child very happy and would also make an ideal present.

Me and my five year old son have had a lot of fun. Nice school holiday experience building the race car rally set. We didn't build the last two packets, we're saving those for another day. I actually did the building with my son looking ahead to the instructions and seeing which pieces of equipment we need. I like the Lego Juniors in that the instructions are clear enough for children to use - all picture based. With the extra two bags you're able to change the racing cars round and have a bit of free play. The kit has been bounced around the floor and not come apart. As well as this the box is great; you're able to store the built up pieces in the box safely or pull apart for safe keeping.

Brilliant....a great combination of a kit with a specific item to make, combined with extra random bricks for free play. It works well, and fills the gap between random blocks and some of the more tricky independent Lego sets out there. My son has had hours of fun, and I'm especially pleased to see a usefully sized box for storage included as part of the packaging. The size is particularly good because it allows for completed or part completed models to be stored safely (and neatly) away.Top marks Lego - highly recommended.

Unfortunately, my own kids are still at the stage of eating everything, so this is mostly used when their big cousins come to visit. It features pieces to make cars and a truck; the models are, with parental assistance, simple and fun to play with once built. There are a lot of pieces in the box, so it's also good for making different models when you get bored of the cars in the instructions. The box they come in is handy for storage, too. This would make a great gift and is good value.

Lego is always a winner - and here is normal lego with sufficiently simple instructions that young children can follow them! This is a boon - some lego sets take literally hours for me to build. Marvellous that children can now do it themselves from a young age. The sets are probably a little bit below the capability of my lego mad 6 year old, and compared to all the other lego sets out there the designs aren't the most appealing to him. Still highly recommended though.

Even the older kids love it: I gave this to two boys to play with - one is 6 and the other 9 (the package says up to 7). Within minutes they had assembled a few cars and were playing with them on the carpet. Happily entertained for a couple of hours. There are a few tiny pieces, which make me wonder if it really is that suitable for younger children (risk of losing the pieces if nothing else) - but not much else to fault. They both loved it.

This item has been an excellent addition to the kids mountain of toys. The kids found everything fairly easy to build and with the bonus of extra bags of pieces and building bricks they have had literally hours of fun building all kinds of bizarre things for themselves. The red box is also ideal for keeping the pieces together when not in use.Once again this is a real quality piece of kit by the Lego people.

This is a fantastic product for any little boy or girl. The large lego storage box is a fantastic place to keep all bits of lego. I purchased this as a Christmas present for a 3 year old little boy and he spent all Christmas day playing with it and building various different models. I was amazed at how many pieces were actually included. Hours of entertainment for all children. Great value for money.

Gave this to six year old niece and she loved it. Could do whole thing herself and played for a good hour. Her eight and ten year old sisters also enjoyed playing with this set. Selfishly I feel much happier not giving them pink Lego! Better value than themed sets too. Ten year old took me to one side to tell me she would be happy to receive this kind of Lego too so a hit all round!

This was a present for my grandson and he is loving it. He plays with it nearly everyday and the good thing about it is that he can put it away every night in the storage box provided without losing bits of lego all over the place. A really excellent present.

What a brilliant set! My 6yr old is just starting out building Lego on his own and the junior sets are amazing as nurturing that learning. He found it challenging but not to impossible and was very proud of himself once he had finished the models on his own.

Looks promising and a small boy will be very happy with his birthday present. I am a great fan of Lego and this looks like a good compromise between Duplo and the very small piece sets for a 4 year old. Toy arrived very promptly so no complaints so far.

Purchased this as additional Lego for my grandsons 5th birthday present. He already has one box and enjoyed it so much he asked for more. This will last him for years. It's brilliant stuff to keep kids occupied and away from the iPad.
