My 8 year old and I absolutely love this game! After reading the rules once it seemed a little confusing but after 3 games we were hooked! We slowly added the different rules until we were playing the full blown game which is very strategical and really makes you think ahead.Basically, each player builds their own base using different white and coloured pieces- identical pieces cannot touch each other. You gain points for each astronaut (2 points) or robot (1 point) that you get inside your completed base. To complicate things, you can also place pieces to block your opponent getting astronauts/robots into their base! UFOs can also be moved under which astronauts can pass but not robots. You can also take over your opponents base by building more of your own coloured pieces into it than their coloured pieces. This game is as strategical as you want to make it and very easy to adapt the rules if you want an easier game. Like the other lego games, the base fits straight in the box without dismantling the permanent pieces. A template can then be put over it, through the holes of which you put the astronauts and robots in their starting positions. My 5 year old does that bit!Great for getting the brain cells working and this game has helped improved my 8 year old son's concentration. We have 3 lego games and this is our favourite so far. I wouldn't recommend it for any younger than 8 years unless you simplify the rules greatly.

This was a bit disappointing as my son is very into making lego space bases anyway for his star wars lego so this should have been ideal. However the rules are very complicated. They do say after it that you can make up your own rules but that is a bit of a cop-out.So if you want to have an easier start with this game here are my rules :build your bases when you get a white square or coloured square on the dice - so for white its the sides and square bits and coloured bits are the other bits.move the commander two spaces towards the space ship for every spaceman or robot that gets into any of your bases !dont build walls between bases as this is just annoying although you can extend if youwant to cause a bit of blocking.dont use the UFOs - again they are just annoying !thats what we came up with !!Enjoy !Oh yes and we just added this latest rule after playing it !Two completely white sides of the dice in a row and a UFO gets to take away one of your robots - ie it goes against the person who gets the second white side, but maybe the better way is to have when you throw a second white side in a row you get to take away one of your opponent's robots or spacemen. And we had it that is you got three white sides in a row ! then the UFOs would destroy the whole game ! It added some excitement anyway.

My son (age 7) received this game for Christmas and we had a blast with it. He particularly liked to come up with different strategies for blocking me and keeping me from getting the robots or astronauts into my bases (eg putting UFOs at the entrances or building walls across entrances). We found ourselves playing it New Years eve! We found the rules to be fairly straightforward and enjoyed playing it with minor variations. The game is great for helping to develop strategies of play and thinking ahead. In fact, our son's chess playing has even improved.

Bought this for my grandson who is lego fanatic but has never had a game before they played as a family and found it great fun but you do have to use your imagination a lot and you can extend visual on the game good fun though.

Great game as long as you can get the family to follow the rules, lol! All of these LEGO games are superb, loads of bricks, characters and a board game to play as well - keeps my 5 yr old very happy.
