This is a "build your own game" from Lego. There are 4 micro-figures:- Gandalf the Grey;- Dwalin;- Fili;- Gili. You have to build the playing board. The board, when completed, can change shape. It forms the Shire with the Lord of the Rings Party Tent at its centre. The tent is not used as a building in the game. Each of the Hobbit homes takes part in the game containing hidden tokens - the object of the game is to get the most "dwarf" tiles. There are 10 "dwarf" tiles and once they have been claimed the game is over and the person with the most "dwarf" tiles wins. There are also "rune" tiles as these are uncovered you need to remember where they are as they can only be claimed if they are matched to the same symbol. Each of these "pairs" has an effect on the game, but not much of one. There are two really big issues that we have with this game:- Firstly - the game is extremely repetitive and, therefore, can (and unfortunately does) become boring quite quickly;- Secondly - the length of game play - if you're lucky you will get 10 to 15 minutes game play out of the game before it becomes a chore to play. You can, however, change and adapt the game to make it a little more interesting. We have even managed to make it into a Cluedo game using the Hobbit homes as "mansion rooms" (admittedly we have had to add extra rooms, servants quarters, etc, as there are only 9 rooms on the Cluedo board and 16 Hobbit homes on this) and the "tent" as the place where "Dr Black" was murdered. The really good thing about this built is that you can put it back into the box without taking it to pieces. As a Tolkien fan I have to admit that I love the image of the Shire and it has joined my Lord of the Rings display - I also like the micro-figures which come with the game. It is just a shame that the game play isn't a little better. At a RRP of 24.99 this 389 build works out to be 6½ pence per piece.

My grandson and son in law built this on Christmas day and then we took turns in playing the game. Grandson is 7 and the building was challenging enough to be interesting and he did need some help. the game is kind of like memory - the card turned over on a table to make pairs. There are other elements though in that by getting some pairs you can send you opponents dwarf back. The little torch tool requires a bit of dexterity and there is enough of a challenge to keep it interesting for those into the Hobbit up till about age ten I would say.The game board fits neatly in the box once built so you do not have to keep rebuilding it each time you want to play.

Kept us entertained for a long time, even the adults playing it after the kids went to bed. Would recommend. The board is tricky for younger people to build but the game could be played by younger.

Well where to start. We all loved it. Great game for all ages. The only difficulty was that the instructions were a little hard to follow the first time but we worked it out on the first play.
