The Lord of the Rings trilogy is my all time fave Lego game (and I've played most of them) so the bar was set really high for the Hobbit, and although it isn't quite as good as TLOTR it is still a suberb game with some great levels and is much better than the last Lego game I played: `Marvel Avengers.' For me the ONLY way to play the Lego games is in co-op mode as this really brings the titles to life, and its this mode of play that my review is based upon. There are however, pros and cons to Lego the Hobbit and a few cumbersome new additions detract a little from the overall package.Pros:* Great graphics. Lego LOTR and the Hobbit are two of the best looking lego games with some awesome backdrops. These two games really do set the standard for graphics in the Lego games.* Great sound. Love the music and movie dialogue. Great sound effects and music.* Some really good level design such as the sequences in Hobbiton, the stone giants, goblin town, caves, and the Lonely Mountain, which are way more enjoyable than the same sequences were in the film. I enjoyed the puzzles/gameplay and always looked forward to returning to the game to play the next level, just as I did with the Lord of The Rings, whereas for some video games playing them can seem like a chore.* Lots of fun.* The buddy up system is interesting and for the most part works well and is a good addition to the overall gameplay mix.Cons:* No instruction booklet, which means that sometimes knowing what to do, is a problem. The onscreen instructions are so tiny and often completely unreadable despite the fact they appear in a large dialogue box that blocks the screen. The in-game text is also tiny. However, there is nothing wrong with gradually figuring things out for yourself and once you do it's fun all the way. But I miss a quality instruction booklet that perhaps introduces some of the levels so that you look forward to them.* Although most levels are great there are some dull levels that never get out of first gear and don't make the most of the source material.* Bugs. Sometimes characters get stuck in places necessitating a re-start. This is apparent in all lego games, however, and happens only very occasionally. Still frustrating though.* The new big build mini game really breaks the gameplay and seems a pretty pointless addition However, when in co-op mode it can get quite competitive as you try to build the pieces before the other player (this competition isn't a feature of the game it's just something you can do to make the process more fun). But, generally, it's not a game mechanic that works well.* Because there are so many playable characters it's quite annoying to have to cycle through each one to try and find the one with the item you need to progress.* Side quests: I haven't enjoyed, or really bothered, with these in any of the Lego games. Trying to make the games more `open world' doesn't really work for me. The Marvel Avengers game in particular suffered badly in this regard. For the most part the side quests are tedious fetch and carry tasks. In co-op you end up getting split up and the map and how you use it is confusing. You really just end up running around bashing stuff and doing very little. It's a real shame that the effort taken to design this element of the game wasn't spent instead on extending the main gameplay and creating a longer game.. The game seems quite short.* Game finishes abruptly. Will we ever see the final chapter? The package feels very incomplete without the final part. I've heard the final part will be a download but as I'm not online with the xbox that's a real shame! It's a little bit of a con to miss out that final chapter of the game. Anyway, if we do see it on disc I'll be buying it, although I assume if it's just a download the game/quality will be limited. Conclusion: I've read complaints about the games being simplistic but this is part of their charm and I haven't lost any of my enjoyment for these games (in co-op mode) over the years. As long as the source material is good they tend to make for good games and are often way better than other attempts by developers to deliver licensed games. I like the fact the developers keep trying different things but I do think they have a formula that works and some of the new elements (like the Big Build) that were added to this game detract from the overall enjoyment. So, although not as well crafted as the Lord of the Rings (and the source material was better to be fair) The Hobbit is still my second favourite lego game and I really hope we see the final chapter on disc! Overall, superb!

Lego The Hobbit seemed to dawn upon us earlier than expected. Let's cut to the chase here. The game is perfectly fine for what it is, it doesn't scratch the surface of Lego Lord of the Rings, or at least what made it so good, the fact it was made with such love and care and the movies had been re-created well. As for Lego The Hobbit, it suffers, it completely suffers. the reason being so obvious, the film only covers 2/3 of the Film Trilogy directed by Peter Jackson. When Lego The Hobbit was released we were told that the third movie, "The Battle of the Five Armies" was to be released as a DLC pack to co-inside with the release of the film in cinemas, but we got nothing.Instead we are left on a completely open note because the game ends at the end of The Desolation of Smaug. The game only covers An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug which kind of renders the game pointless without the inclusion of The Battle of the Five Armies. However the good things, the game is a lot of fun, like most Lego games, the re-creations of the films are done well and the inclusion of the dialogue really makes you feel more involved in the films. The game play is fun and the levels are entertaining par a few such as the barrels level which was disappointing for me, you can play as many characters which is always nice for a Lego Game. The graphics are great as well. The inclusion of the score from the first 2 Hobbit movies composed by Howard Shore fits in really nicely, the added composed music for some levels is weird and doesn't sound as good. Exploring Middle-Earth as the hub is great and you can use the eagles as well, which is great :D!! And one thing that made me smile was hearing the narration during the loading screens from Sir Christopher Lee who portrayed Saruman the White in both The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings Trilogies and is sadly no longer with us :( That for me is the shining light of the game. Also Gandalf is really difficult to control which is weird. Overall Lego The Hobbit is a fun game but really suffers from in completion, if you're a Hobbit fan its worth playing, its a fun game but didn't wow me like Lego Lord of the Rings did :)

Lego games at their finest!Minor quibble up front: The game requires an always online presence to play that and you have to have a steam account in order to play this. This was annoying as steam seemed down more than it was up the first week of purchase. /quibble offThe game itself is nothing short of what you have come to expect from the Lego brand. Immersive game playing, pleny of puzzles and a superior draw to keep playing once the game has finsihed.I know that sounds odd but when you finish the 16 levels of the game [which follows the films telling of the story not the book], you have only completed 27% of the game.My son [6]is loving the game and despite having played it since early april when it arrived he is only 40% or so though the game.At £20 for the game [£16 for me cause of amazon's price matching guarentee] this makes it good value for money, both for the initial enjoyjoyment and the returnability. After completeing the 16 levels at the minimum requirement, there is the opportunity to re enter the levels and complete them 100%. Collecting 10 minikits, 4 treasure trove items, 1 blacksmith design and getting a preset amount of lego studs.Additional to this there are a whole bunch of quests [about 90 - 105 depends on which site you read] around middle earth. these quests reward a variety of things from Mithril blocks to other characters in the game. There are 32 blacksmith patterns to collect and make. 16 in the levels and 16 in Middle Earth [most folks call it Overland]. There are also two types of results from the blacksmithing: a normally forged item and a Master Forged item. Some new features to the lego games franchise are the ability to buddy up and create joint attacks on boss mobs and solve puzzles. Also is the ability to make 'super structures' inside levels and for quests. Finally are the races, which utilise the fll range of character abilities.Add to all this lego's unique sense of humour and you have an instant classic.Overall, it is a highly enjoable, immesive game that is child friendly at least from the age of 6.Looking forward to Batmen 3 in the Autumn.

The Hobbit like the many Lego games before it takes the Middle-earth films then recreates them in Lego. Despite there being quite a few games at this point based on different series from Batman to Harry Potter these games are inherently fun thanks to their stand out humour and unique aspects each game brings. It's a decent sized game with 16 main mission levels progressing through the events of both The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug. Unfortunately due to when this game was released it kind of just stops dead, i'm hoping the third films contents are added as free downloadable content or at least a decent price. The missions take some of the voice acting from the films (there is a distinct echo)to be able to use the same actors where possible but then add extra scenes, facial expressions that are genuinely entertaining regardless if you're 10 or 30.Main missions aside you can free roam through Lego Middle-earth collecting lego studs (used as currency) complete side missions, unlock new characters etc. There is a wealth of things to do which will be familiar to anyone who has played any other Lego titles in recent years. While collecting a lot of the extras going for trophies on the Middle-earth map though I did get stuck in scenery, have camera issues, items vanish etc. Nothing game breaking but there are definite bug/glith problems. The graphics are great with a lot of the backgrounds more realistic and detailed (water effects and the Shire are especially nice) with Lego characters, objects and pieces making it clear what can be interacted with. Equally the sound is pleasant with music from the film franchises and good voice acting for the huge cast. It's a great game that's funny, suitible for anyone, has fun multiplayer and tons to do. If you like The Hobbit franchise or have kids that enjoy these games you can't go wrong. I enjoyed it a lot and I don't even like the films.+ Nice humour.+ A wealth to do and collect.+ Pretty visuals.+ Good multiplayer fun.+ Music from the films.- Only the first two films, story just stops.- Quite a few bugs here and there.

As adventure games are my favourite, Lego LOTR had stood out as the best in the series for me. A huge overworld to explore with absolutely tons to do. Not to mention the fact that the game was absolutely beautiful.Story and character wise I prefer the Hobbit, which gave this game a bit of a head start. But T.T. have gone a step further and given this game even more reasons to put it out in front.Whilst the game only covers the first two movies, make no mistake, it is huge. The over world is easily as big as that in LOTR, but has greater depth. For example, this time rather than burning some vines to get a white brick, you would instead open access to a cave,in which there would be another puzzle. There is an immense amount of abilities and items, unfortunately T.T. decide to tell you exactly which one to use at each puzzle and turning hints off doesn't appear to prevent this. It would be nice if instead they gave us clear descriptions of what all the abilities/items do and let us turn off hints completely.Thankfully there are numerous puzzles that are not simply solved with abilities and these tend to have riddles as clues (albeit simple ones).Another thing to note, in LOTR the next section of the map would be blocked by the next level. This is not always the case in Hobbit. Often the path will be blocked by something like rubble which requires an explosive or another obstacle requiring a particular ability. This slight change in dynamic adds to the sense of freedom. The collection of loot is never a chore, I enjoyed collecting it as I went along and it gave me more incentive to explore both in the overworld and in levels after achieving 'master burglar'.The game is absolutely beautiful and seems somehow smoother than LOTR. Perhaps running at a higher frame rate. The music is great as you'd expect and there is voice work exclusive to the game.Overall this is my favourite Lego game and one of my absolute favourite games of the last generation.

As a fan of Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit , I knew my 7 year old son would love this game. It has been great fun playing it together . We finished the 16 story missions and bonus level and the game was only 30 something per cent complete . The rest of the game entails unlocking more characters , hunting mithril and red bricks, doing side quests all over middle earth and going back and doing the levels in free play mode to get treasure items, minikits and schematics to build at the blacksmith. It's good to chase down the red bricks too as these contain things like stud multipliers to net you more money or have bonuses like double loot.I loved the Middle Earth Carnival brick which turns the world into a big disco complete with flashing lights and a hobbit remix song, it's hilarious to see the characters break out the dance moves. At the moment we have completed 80% of the game, we keep doing a little bit each day. Two characters vital to getting the collectibles are Sauron and Saruman . Sauron destroys black morgul objects and Saruman destroys white objects. Both can be encountered on the map, other characters become available by doing certain quests too.Overall I give this game 5 stars, great game to play with your child, great value for money ( apparently the 3rd film content will be added as DLC at a later date so we'll hold onto this for a while ) and very entertaining- fantastic game.

I rarely write reviews but after I saw some of the poor reviews The Hobbit Lego game had received online I felt obliged to leave my personal opinion.Firstly I am a huge fan of Tolkien's books. So I was very wary of what to expect. I did enjoy Lego Marvel, although I found it quite cheesy at times and I found myself disinterested in the cut scenes which unfortunately made me worry that The Hobbit Lego would be slightly cheesy at times and I'd lose interest. I'm happy to say I had no reason to worry. The voice acting of all the main characters has been pulled straight from the films so it sounds fantastic. The game's story leads up to the end of the second film and didn't disappoint. The quests were fun and too obviously gain everything from one quest you must go back and replay it. I assume they intend to release DLC for the third film after it's released in December. The Hobbit Lego looks utterly fantastic on PS4 and at times it even had me feeling like I was playing a Lego version Skyrim, probably due to the new crafting system which allows you to equip armor and weapons you have forged. There's also plenty of additional content to do once the game has been completed. Although this isn't going to win game of the year it's a solid addition to the Lego video game library and there's plenty of hours of enjoyment to be had. This game is a must for fans of Tolkien and Lego.

It feels like a lot more effort has gone into creating the game features in this episode of the Lego games. This seems to be a trend: Lego Lord of the Rings was considerably more complex than Lego Batman, for example.Lego: The Hobbit keeps the character wheel function used in Lego Lord of the Rings and makes it even more detailed, with new mithril items, and a host of new character functions and unique traits. Dwarves can now mine rocks - a fantastic feature, you can ride horses and wargs at will in free play, and the Lego building exercises are much more interactive, with the player actually selecting the correct pieces to put items together. All in all this is my favourite Lego video game to date, outdoing previous favourite Lego Star Wars with its overwhelming superiority of features and fantastic humour throughout.Unfortunately, it can't have a 5 star review from me because it's not the whole game - this was a massive disappointment, although predictable, as the game was released before the 3rd film from Peter Jackson was released in late 2014. As a result, the game finishes at the end of the 2nd film, and apparently the 3rd film will be released as downloadable content at some point. The game as it is still has the same number of levels etc as a normal Lego game, the problem is more about a sense of an ending.

I have to say this what a grey lego game. I am 30 and never get sick of the games.I think they are very adventurous and are just like a normal games, but Lego The HobbitIs a fantastic game. The downfall this game has to be the game is very hard and there isno way this is rated towards kids at seven. Should be rated 12 for general violence as thereIs a lot of fighting as well as difficulty of the game. And the other thing the game suffersfrom a lot of freezing. For example - I was fighting a troll and he froze all of a sudden and the restof the characters still play on and another time the game froze altogether which has done six to eighttimes all ready. But really after all this game is fantastic. If you have problems with any games freezing, lagging it could be something to do with actually software that comes from the actually game disk. These solutions could help to avoid them happen -I have experienced other games freezing and lagging my suggestion is delete a lotof your saved games and software by doing a system restore every 1-2 months if you play a lot of gamesas they could conflict with other games and make sure you turn the internet connection off as they couldcause your new games to have problems.

Like all the Lego games this is full of fun and silliness. There's a good variety of levels, from fighting orcs to racing a rabbit-drawn sled, and there's a huge selection of characters including Bilbo, Gandalf, Legolas and the many, many dwarves. You play through the events of first two Hobbit films (An Unexpected Journey & The Desolation of Smaug) with lots of mini quests and collectibles to keep you busy. This game is perfect for all ages - you can play solo or team up with a friend although the new 'loot' system may be overly complicated for younger players. The graphics are superb and the gameplay is enhanced by the original film music and dialogue. The open world layout is similar to Lego Lord of the Rings so you can explore the vastness of Middle Earth in all its Lego glory. The story is easy to follow without seeing the films and the somewhat serious nature of the tale is balanced with plenty of silly slapstick Lego humour. The occasional frustrating glitch loses this game a star but overall, a thoroughly enjoyable game for the whole family.

So, firstly, I am reviewing this as an adult. This game is really fab. I mean, who doesn't like lego? There is plenty to explore, the fact you don't have to stick to the path and there is always more to see and unlock is great. There is something seriously pleasurable about smashing lego isn't there! There's a great narrative, in line with the film, and a great array of characters. Some bits do require a little bit of thinking which is really good.My main criticism is to do with the difficulty factor (I don't think you can change this?).When a character 'dies', he reappears seconds later, so although this is handy, it seems to me, it's very difficult to loose, and as an adult I'd like a bit more of a challenge,so I'd like to be able to 'die' as it were to speak, which would probably make it more interesting.I also am not a fan of the little bits you can't skip - the video type narrative bits but that is just me.I got this in the sale for £14.99, I wouldn't pay the £55 price tag for it, but would happily pay what I did pay.

Brought this for me and my game mad boyfriend to play as it's something we can play together especially as LOTR/Hobbit fans.We preordered it and got the stuff packs but have not used these to their full potential as we haven't played free play yet. It is well sort out and middle earth is well set out much like the previous LOTR one. I especially love the small nodds to the previous game and places in the world like unlocking the small path in which you can get the ferry to bree or walk the path of caradass to lothlorien (sorry about the spelling). However, some of the levels feel to short like some could be placed together for a much smoother game but i suppose it might make replaying the levelsless frustrating as something in level you have to repeat the entire thing to pick up a minikit thats right at the end (it's always the case). Can't wait so complete it, plus the final 'movie' section to be added at the end of the year

The game represent's the movie, not the book and with that distinction out of the way, if you loved the film, loved other Lego titles, then you'll more than likely enjoy this game as part of your ever expanding Lego experience.Lego has always tried to provide longevity with it's game, a repeatable factor that allow's you to play the story and finish, or continue on trying to complete all the location's hidden objectives and "The Hobbit" is no exception, though done slightly differently. Event's around the Shire and beyond, call you to help the people's of Middle Earth. The Hobbit has a few changes, notably the buddy system, allowing you to combine character's to make special moves and the Blacksmith, introduced at Bree, giving you Mitheral clothing, weapons to seeking out strange new "Brewer's Hat" for a quest, whilst searching for those elusive character's, brick's, recipe's and Lego studs.

As a huge self proclaimed nerd and massive fan of everything middle earth, I love this game. I sat and played for four whole hours as soon as it arrived and completed the plot of the first film, while talking along with all the voice lines. The graphics are good and entertaining, and the humour is just right. It's perfect for kids too; instead of Thrain's head being cut off brutally, it flies up in the air and lands back on his neck but facing the wrong way.As for the copy itself, the quality is excellent. It's obviously not brand new as it's not still in its wrapper, but it may as well be. The disc is in perfect condition and the case itself bears only a few scratches, seemingly from being slid out from its place between two other games on a shelf so often. To conclude: I am very pleased and glad I purchased it.Read full review...

Amazing gameThis is a great sequel to the Lego Lord of the Rings Game with the same amazing free play and huge map to explore. This time around there are rocks with different ores and gems dotted around the map for you to mine using Bofur and collect along with all the other foods etc. There are loads of addition character challenges dotted around the map which lengthen the game and make a great addition to the primary levels of the game. Some of the aspects of the challenges are a bit tedious, especially when for example someone wants an extortionate amount of carrots for her horses and you have to find an area with them and keep going in and out of that area to reload them.Minor annoyance aside, this game is definitely worth buying, hours of entertainment for all ages and lives up to the benchmark set by Lego Lord of the Rings.
