This game took me by suprise.I love the Tolkien world in terms of the books, films and the games, but didn't really like the look of this game.It looks too much like a children's game for a start, and wasn't really how i imagined the book.HOWEVER......................I loved it!!!What a great little game!It follows the book and does capture the feel of it very well.In essence this game is an old-school platformer. You are given missions to do by various characters to progress through the levels. You start in Hobbitton, meet the Trolls, go through the Misty Mountains (which are crawling with goblins), fight your way through Mirkwood and its' spiders, escape the Elf prison, visit Lake Town and finally meet Smaug the dragon! The only downside of these levels that they have missed out some opportunities - you don't really deal with Gollum enough, and a level with Beorn the shape-changer would have been great. There could also have been a level where you are stuck up the trees, avoiding the goblins and wargs, before being rescued by the eagles. But where this game makes up for those minor flaws is that it picks OTHER areas to give you some action.Lake Town was a surprise with some quite fun missions. So the game certainly ticks the boxes for me in terms of 'feel' of the book. The graphics aren't amazing, but they do the job nicely. The landscapes and characters are pretty good, and the cut scenes are quite nice too.The voice-overs are good and the atmospheric music is ok, though sometimes you would like to make the guitarist stop on a couple of the levels. There are only so many times you can listen to a rustic folk tune on an endless loop! The camera can be a bit awkward sometimes, but you don't mind so much as the game is really enjoyable.I loved trying to collect all the courage points ( a nice idea), chests, and coins littered about the levels. You can play this through quickly or be a bit more circumspect and collect everything.Like i said, this game is essentially a platformer, so you do have to collect piece 'x' and give to character 'y' to proceed. There are lots of jumping and swinging, and fighting in the later levels. But it isn't going to challenge the hardened gamer. Some reviewers have complained about the save points, but i am sorry to say i disagree with them. The save points are in good places, and you just have to make sure you use them wisely i.e. do something dangerously difficult and then save, before doing the next dangerously difficult segment of the level.Faults? There are a few.It is way too easy. The graphics could be better. The camera is a bit poor.It feels a bit short.BUT i found it easy to forgive these as it was just one of those games you could pick up and have fun with.If you are into fighting games this isn't for you.If you are looking for life-changing depth this isn't for you.If you are looking for something that has hundreds of complicated moves to master this isn't for you.I would recommend this game to anyone over the age of 10 - it is not too violent (no gore in this game at all!) and it sticks to the essence of Tolkien's book.It is a solid platformer and will keep you occuppied for a while. There are better platformers out there, but this is a nice stand alone game that will bring a smile to your face, and make you remember why you became a gamer in the first place (if you are an older gamer like me!)GREAT FUN

One day the Halfling hobbits will rule the Earth. I mean, think about it. They are awfully smart, too intelligent for their own good. They can see and hear things a mile away. And they can go invisible before your eyes.Or at least Bilbo Baggins can. And in the Hobbit you can step into the shoes of the Burglar...Or at least if those little Hobbits had to wear shoes on their leathery soles of theirs. Go around with the Ring, a walking stick and Sting the elvish blade. Such equipment will become you best friends as you travel from the lands of the Hobbits to the Lonely Mountain of Smaug the Dragon. You will meet Gollum below the Misty Mountains, defend yourself from Giant Spiders and the servants of the Necromancer in Mirkwood, face wolves and a small variety of monsters before you even see any mountains, and goblins will be there to chase innocent little Hobbits like you every step of the way.Prepare for the adventure that makes being only four feet tall at the well concealed age of fifty ROCK!!!8.5/10.0

This game is wonderful. As I am not a very experienced gamer, and do not have much to compare it to, I'm probably overrating it, but as far I can see it has few flaws. Each level is set somewhere different, whether it be the spider-inhabited forest, the wood elves' palace, Smaug's treasure chamber, a stormy mountain full of wolves or the goblin's fabulous workshop, full of lifts and pulleys and fiery furnaces. The game can be extremely challenging, with frustrating mental problems to solve and save 'pedestals' impossibly far away from each other, but this only makes the satisfaction greater when you complete a level.Above all, this is a game not only of skill and technique (which is acquired gradually as you progress through the game)but a game where every character could be an enemy, where danger lurks behind every corner, and friendly dwarves are on hand to help - just like in the book 'The Hobbit'. And of course, best of all, you get to wear the ring.

I love all things Tolkien so was pleasantly surprised to see I'd never heard of this on GBA sp.It is such a fantastic game! Compared to the other LoTR GBA games this was my favourite. For those who've read the book like I it follows that version of events quite well!It should only take you a maximum of maybe 5 hours to complete in one sitting I reckon and still collect and complete your weapons and special skills etc.The fighting style you actually get to do, compared with say the Fellowship of the Ring GBA game where you equip your characters with certain weapons and then wait for each individual to swing their weapon and pray nobody misses and that their health bar goes down quickly.I alsoreally enjoyed the graphics here too in comparison to the other games!

Lovely graphics, not mega high tech but perfect for capturing the atmosphere. Thoughtful level design and an easy control system. Thats the techno stuff out of the way. What gameplay!! excellent stuff. My 6 year old could play it and enjoy it and so could I. The storyline of the book is remarkably well adhered to.Each section is a logical step to the next (although I would have liked an escape from Gollum level.)Tricky, but solvable puzzles, fierce but beatable enemies and a gentle learning curve all add up to make the gameplay rewarding and less frustrating than shopping on a saturday. The music is perfectly reflective of the current game situation and the voice acting is very good.Buy it ifyou want to relax and see a story unfold.

If you are a hardened gamer and need power-ups and a chain gun, then what were you thinking? The Hobbit sticks fairly closely (as much as a game could)to the book and provides a nicely presented cartoon adventure for the younger gamer. Graphics are good but not brilliant, which I believe ensures the more scary/tense scenes remain at the right level for the audience. I particularly like the levels requiring use of stealth rather than might - good topic for conversation and also reminded me of the 'Thief' series of games. WE played, yes WE - together - and had loads of FUN. Nice to find a game that 2 people could enjoy together. Big thumbs up from us.

Right, first things first, this game doesnt claim to be revolutionary or anything more than it is. This game is a brilliant little game if you just want something simple, easy to get into and that doesnt have controls that are harder thn the game itself. I found the game to be perfectly enjoyable, however if you are looking for something that truly tests your mind, this clearly isnt it. However, i, personally think this is an enjoyable little game.

This game kept me busy for HOURS. I like the type of game where you have to hunt round for things, and it's not too difficult, which is another reason I liked it.Some games can be far too complicated for my liking, you never know just what you should be doing and end up missing loads, but this is right up my street.Loved it so much, my sister bought the gamecube version, and now we're in competition!!!

The first game with Bilbo, I mean it took them a while. I actually prefered this book to the LOTR series and the game matches up to them. The grafix arnt all that good but the game play is hallariously fantastic. Makes a bezzy turn game with your mates. The game starts a bit slow but really unfolds into the epic story that made the book. If your into the book I command you , as MrT, to get this game.

It is not overly hard but it is such a nice concept. To find a game that is really big and has such nice features as playing hide and seek with some little Hobbits to sneaking around a dragon and fighting goblins and spiders!!I have very much enjoyed this game and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys long platform games!!

When my daughter was still yet to be born, I remember playing this game, feeling her kick and move about inside my tummy! I loved this game back then I love the trolls and their accents :) Am a huge LOTR fan anyway and I love all games to do with it. I still like playing it now just for the memories it brings back!

this game is a fantastic game to play. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a platform game where to succeed you have to solve puzzles as well as explore the environments that you are placed in and be involved in combat. the graphics are top and the whole game is worth owning.

This is such a brilliant game. It was my favourite game as a kid and have just started playing it again. It's so addictive! It's not difficult at all and Bilbo is extremely cute. It might sound weird to say the game is funny but it really is :)
